A great free toy? The wadded up ball of paper. Cats love them because they can bat them around. I taught mine to catch. It's so funny. My old cat would play fetch with them but he was a bit confused. He thought that he was a dog.
This is perfect, my 4 year old is basically obsessed with cats and always makes her own cat toys, her go to homemade cat toys is stuffing soft socks with things too lol.. this is a perfect project for us to do together . Thank you for being you!
I made a sock for my cats before. I did rice and catnip in the sock I made. I got the idea because I had a rice sock given to me (heating pad alternative). One of my cats liked the sock a lot and it didn't have to be hot, she just liked it. So I tried a rice and catnip and my two cats loved it. I had my mom sew it shut for me, but I like the fringe closing.
How fun! A makeshift cat toy that my cats love, is buying those kid fishing rods with the plastic clasp at the end. I just attach any of my cat's toys that can be hooked on with the plastic clasp and then just toss and reel! ❤
A little tip from an experienced crafter/volunteer crafts instructor: IF you can be quite sure your cat(s) won't try to eat the puzzle box and it's parts, glue dots or double sided tape can be used to attach the sides of the tubes together as an easier alternative to hot glue for the inexperienced.
I made several catnip sock toys for my cats for Christmas presents after watching this - super easy and they are a HUGE hit! Great idea! Best toy ever!
You can use the shiny silver wrapper that Pop-tarts come in to make a simple toy. Just scrunch it up and tie some string around it. You can either cut it short or leave one end long, depending on how you want your use it with your cats.
I dropped a flameless votive candle on the floor and my cats been playing with it for an hour, just going to town batting it across the living room. I have 18 more, she can keep that one 😂
What a fun video! Definitely going to try out the box very soon. Also, for anyone else on a budget, I have found that my cats absolutely love it when I role acorns around the house for them. They role unpredictably and are often just the right size to pick up and throw around with their paws, too. Two of my cats go completely nuts chasing after them.😁
One of my cats went nuts from small balls of paper when he was a kitten. He was chasing them, kicking them, carrying them in his mouth. Then he got bored with them and that was it. Cats get bored easily
@@bambinaforever1402 Yeah, small balls of regular or waxed paper were a fave for one of my kittens, but she got bored too. Definitely have to keep changing it up. Luckily she'll play with just about anything and prefers random scraps of plastic, bottle caps, etc. to the expensive hex bug tracks, etc. that she has. Even a tiny potato from the garden that rolls in an unpredictable pattern can keep a cat's attention longer than some of the fancy store-bought toys.
Thank you so much Monsieur Galaxy for not just pushing your, I am sure super inventive and sophisticated, especially designed cat toy line and addressing the most obvious low budget alternative! This makes you not a sellout! Much appreciated and happy holidays! 🎁😺
I have been watching SO many videos on this channel recently. I even discovered some "full episode" videos of Jackson Galaxy's old tv show. I only had 1 cat, not for very long, our family made many mistakes and ended up having to send him away. But I really like cats and hope to find a home that will allow me to adopt/rescue one some day ❤
I can relate to that. I live alone with my teenage son in an appartment and don`t have a lot of money. We are allowed to have pets here, but I don`t have the money to care for one 😢 hope I will have someday son.
Hi Jackson! We’ve just spent an evening doing socks for our cats and cats from my sister. So much fun😅 let’s hope cats will be so happy as we😅 greetings from Germany ❤
When I tried to make a DIY toy for my foster kitten it was a slow progression: I made her olay with an hollow ball, when that didn't work I filled the ball with pearls. But she seemed to want to bite on something si I sew it in a sock, and then since it couldn't roll anymore I attached it to a string. The last addition was catnip on it and she was good to go. And let's not forget the legendary aluminium foil ball
My cat loves toilet paper rollers and the only DIY is new TP. She bats it, carries it and tears it to shreds with great delight. So fun to watch and she likes to play fetch.
On dry cleaning bags are twist ties that are a good size, wrap them around a pencil, slide off and ta-da another cat toy! We do this with chenille stems as well. My cats adore them!
My cat, too, loves to play with chenille stems. I coil them around my little finger and toss them to him. He knows the drawer I kept the chenille stems in and when he heard it open he'd run to the spot and eagerly await for the coil to be ready. He chases it, pounces on it, bites it, and carries it around. When it becomes conquered prey my cat will bring it to me to make it ready for another conquest.
These are great. I love the diy idea and repurposing things for my cats instead of throwing them away. However, I'm trying to estimate how fast my cat is gunna shred them and then eat them. 🤦🤦 This is why we can't have nice things! Haha!
i can't stress how incredibly useful this video is!!! i adopted my cat a few days ago, and the initial investment was no joke on my meager salary. i'm super relieved to learn you can recycle stuff you have on hand to make great toys, this way i don't have to make my catto wait to have a decent toybox 😌 will make the sock and wand asap and begin to hoard paper tubes. thanks a lot, jackson and kate!!
Thanks for the suggestions. One of my cats fav home made toys is a bundle of feathers tied with a sturdy string. I have quail feathers as well as peacock feathers. She loves catching and crunching on them. I attach feathers to a silver vine stick as well. She loves those too
Jackson thank you so much. I found your channel a few weeks ago after I adopted 2 kittens (siblings). I have been wanting to get cats before , I have 4 little dogs senior dogs.I am learning a lot from you. I am so thankful for your guidance. I will definitely make these toys, it looks fun to make and surely my kittens will love them. I appreciate you for sharing wealth of informations. My husband and I retired this year and looking forward to spending loving and caring for our love ones, our dogs and our new kittens.
I DIY almost all of my cat's toys. She tends to figure out and get tired of storebought toys. Her current favorite is the waxed paper outer wrapper of a Chocolove, made into a ball. The puzzle looks fun!
11:18 I made a puzzle base from a pizza box lid so they'd have something to stand on. I used liquid wood glue on the whole thing. It was solid in a few hours but I left it overnight to make sure. Sideways rolls, leg length to paw length in a pyramid. Upright rolls, 3 rows, spaced just enough for a leg in between and the same lengths as before. Filled the uprights with dry kibble (a treat for them) at first and then just a few so they'd have to dig & fish. Also a few pieces among the uprights cuz double paws around an obstacle is HUGE fun. The pyramid got pieces in the middles. One cat each side of the paper towel roll is VERY fun. Plus peephole hunting advantage, they look through the other rolls to see when the other cat's making a move. This puzzle lasted for months with two cats. They were bored with it before it was destroyed.
I made the cat puzzle for my girls but instead of gluing the loo rolls I packed in scrunched up newspaper so they are stuck in there tightly & so the biscuits can't get stuck between the tubes. I also used a toothpaste box as well, which fits nicely in the corners. I've done it in both a cardboard box and some tupperware and my girls love them both! My tubes are a bit shorter though as they were getting frustrated with the longer ones, so the longest is about 3/4 of a loo roll.
Ohhh my goodness what a great laugh. As soon as I saw a hot glue gun...I just knew this would be entertaining. I can't wait to make some kickers for my local rspca shelter. Can you guys maybe do one on how to make mazes?? My boy loves mazes😅...well, he loves anything food related😂. Thank you for a great laugh❤
What do you think about growing your own catnip for cats? It's a member of the mint family, so it should come back year after year. You can also use it in your own cooking as a seasoning herb.
@@lrothweiler same here! And I clip it back in late Fall and dry the clippings so my cat has really nice catnip to continue playing in all winter. I think it smells lovely fresh from a garden bush!
I had some in a low wide pot and my cats would roll in it, eventually destroying after about a year and a half they pulled up the roots even. It wintered ok considering it freezes here. Come spring I want to plant a large bed of it.
@@vanessamvarela I used pots for a couple of years and the cats did that too, pulling it out by roots. I planted it in the ground and have never had an issue with that since. It freezes here too, and snows a bit, but I just cut it back to about three inches from the ground and in the spring it starts shooting up again. Gets to be a nice bush about two feet tall by end of summer and the blooms are really quite pretty. Good luck!
Years ago i took a bell off a toy or collar, wrapped rubber bands around it, making a superball sized bouncy ball out of rubber bands (rubber band ball) then tied a pc of chenille fun fur onto an outer pc of the rubber band & proceeded to wrap the ball until it doubled in size & was fully padded by chenille yarn. I knotted it once I got to my desired size so it wouldn't unravel & I left a decent amt of yarn dangling so it was a ball on a string & its now a cat toy I can roll, bounce, throw for cat or swing around by its string for him to chase. It's stayed perfectly intact for yrs & he still plays with it. I used a chenille yarn that was a different color ever foot or so, so it has multi colored yarn vs just 1 color but it all came from the same 1 ball of yarn/fun fur.
I remember as a small child being taken to the park to pick up feathers. These were then tied to bit of string to make a "bird" for our cats to catch. I still do this occasionally 😊 This video made me laugh and I have other ideas for my kitties now 😊 Thank you
I would not pick up the feathers in the park though... who knows what illnesses or parasites the bird had that are still stuck to the feathers. But one can get clean chicken feathers in most stores that sell dyi stuff
That was fantastic! Thank you! Please do another one in the future with some more elaborate toys we could make! I for one could definitely cope with the crafting difficulty level being increased a few notches to make some more ambitious things. My babies are spoilt rotten and don't really need any more toys, but I've still been saving up loo roll centres for a few months with a vague notion of doing something like this at some point. I think it'll take me another few months before I have enough carboard tubes though. Now I know exactly what to do with them once I have saved up enough. My girlies are about to get a cat wheel for Christmas, it's quite expensive so they'll probably never use it and they'll love the virtually free loo roll puzzle toy. Cats.
I cannot say thank you big enough for this video. I'm mostly broke but I foster cats and they cannot be with my permanent cat because he's FIV positive and they aren't.... and I worry that they are so so bored because they can't be in the whole house with the humans. They have tons of toys and tunnels and high things to sit on, beds, rooms to play in but I think they're bored still. I just love them so much and I worry. I can make this puzzle toy over and over again and it just makes my heart happy to give them something fun to do. Thank you so very very much!!! Love, Kathryn

I never thought about it being a DIY toy, but my family has been making catnip socks for ages! We use any sock, doesnt have to be fuzzy, in fact we prefer a nice starchy stiff sock. 😅 I never knew to use polyfill though! We always put about a cup or so of that bucket catnip, and it would last for 2-3 years! I do want to try this for a more poofy sock shape instead of a floppy sack. But cats love it either way, truly! Awesome ideas! Thanks to you both.
Jackson, I’ve been watching you for long time. You know so much about cats. I love these DIYs. I was just on Pinterest yesterday looking for ideas. One was just a tshirt wrapping around a box, so the cat climbs in where the neck of the tshirt is. That was cute. My girl just experienced catnip and earlier this week with Silvervine in it. She loved it. She was even eating it as she rolled in it. Laughing at her-so funny.
A small plastic bottle (Bai drink bottles are the best) with a couple of small holes in the side make great toys for dogs and cats. Put treats inside and they roll it around until the treats fall out. Our Chiweenie loves this toy and will bring it to us to put treats in so he can play with it. Our cat also loved it.
I'll definitely be making the puzzle toy tomorrow. A perfect toy which I can easily make more than one of for each cat (a 6 year old and a 6 month old). Terrific suggestions and video. Thanks, Jackson and Kate!! Happy Holidays!

A great free toy? The wadded up ball of paper. Cats love them because they can bat them around. I taught mine to catch. It's so funny. My old cat would play fetch with them but he was a bit confused. He thought that he was a dog.
my cat loves homemade toys the simpler the better
This video makes me so happy. I have no money this year and I've ben wanting to make things for our kitties to play with, handmade.❤
Your kitties will love love love the toys!!! But not as much as they love you. I hope your holidays are filled with love and peace.❤❤❤😊
All I gotta do is toss a few paper bags and open boxes, and they go crazy for 'em.
I made several catnip sock toys for my cats for Christmas presents after watching this - super easy and they are a HUGE hit! Great idea! Best toy ever!
Hi Pam how are you doing
Hello Pam, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus???
You can use the shiny silver wrapper that Pop-tarts come in to make a simple toy. Just scrunch it up and tie some string around it. You can either cut it short or leave one end long, depending on how you want your use it with your cats.
Hi Alison where are you from?
I dropped a flameless votive candle on the floor and my cats been playing with it for an hour, just going to town batting it across the living room. I have 18 more, she can keep that one 😂
What a fun video! Definitely going to try out the box very soon. Also, for anyone else on a budget, I have found that my cats absolutely love it when I role acorns around the house for them. They role unpredictably and are often just the right size to pick up and throw around with their paws, too. Two of my cats go completely nuts chasing after them.😁
One of mine used to love going after walnuts 😂
I just discovered acorns for my formerly feral cat and she loves chasing them--it's the unpredictability, as you say.
Making Christmas real for the fur babes
I crocheted a kicker about the same size as a sock. I also put a cheap ball with a bell inside it. My kittens LOVE IT!
Thank you so much Monsieur Galaxy for not just pushing your, I am sure super inventive and sophisticated, especially designed cat toy line and addressing the most obvious low budget alternative! This makes you not a sellout! Much appreciated and happy holidays! 🎁😺
I truly appreciate your videos. Thank you so much!
Can't wait to watch live tomorrow Jackson galaxy 🌌 have a great day ! 🐈🙋♀️💕💋
Hi Jackson! We’ve just spent an evening doing socks for our cats and cats from my sister. So much fun😅 let’s hope cats will be so happy as we😅 greetings from Germany ❤
So? Did your cats play with those? I bet not
When I tried to make a DIY toy for my foster kitten it was a slow progression: I made her olay with an hollow ball, when that didn't work I filled the ball with pearls.
The puzzle looks fun!
my cats love the delivery Amazon boxes and paper bags!
Hi Gwenritch how are you doing today
Catnip socks are my cats' favorite toy.
Fun, fun, fun!!! Thank You Jackson and Kate❤❤❤
Hi my friend how are you doing today 😊
I made the cat puzzle for my girls but instead of gluing the loo rolls I packed in scrunched up newspaper so they are stuck in there tightly & so the biscuits can't get stuck between the tubes. I also used a toothpaste box as well, which fits nicely in the corners. I've done it in both a cardboard box and some tupperware and my girls love them both! My tubes are a bit shorter though as they were getting frustrated with the longer ones, so the longest is about 3/4 of a loo roll.
Great ideas!!! Love recycling/up cycling, and of course making my kitties happy!😽
And it makes a wonderful tea.
I've grown it in my garden for two decades. I've had the happiest cats in all the land.
My cats loved their sock kicker toy!!
@@hannajung7512 or just sanitize the feathers before crafting.
I work at a municipal shelter and often times give groups tours, and then we do projects. I would like to see a lot more DIY project videos. Thank you for everything you do.
I made the sock kicker toy to repurpose a pair of socks that I couldn’t bear to throw away after they lost their stretch. I put one inside the other to strengthen it and keep the catnip inside. My cats love it!
Love the sock kicker ideas. Can change them out more often by making them and I could put lots of catnip as most have hardly in them. Love it.
Lol 😹
I kid you NOT I was watching you on my satellite tv over 10ys ago on my cat from hell! I absolutely LOVE YOU 😘
Today I am a cat mama of 3 indoor kitties (one Siamese, one Tuxedo Ginger & one mutt 😂 backyard stray rescue) and I also care for several neighborhood strays 😸
I now have a small kitty channel myself... I started this last year & now I have over 4k subs! I'm so proud of our kitties 😻 They are the STARS 🤩 of the whole thing. Mama just loves & feeds them 😽
Anyway thank you for all the amazing advice over the years. I've learned so much from you! Our kitties are happier & healthier because of it 🤗
Merry Christmas ⛄🎁 🎄
I never thought about it being a DIY toy, but my family has been making catnip socks for ages! We use any sock, doesnt have to be fuzzy, in fact we prefer a nice starchy stiff sock. 😅
I never knew to use polyfill though! We always put about a cup or so of that bucket catnip, and it would last for 2-3 years! I do want to try this for a more poofy sock shape instead of a floppy sack. But cats love it either way, truly!
Awesome ideas! Thanks to you both.
The countdown begins! ❤ me and my 3 boys love your videos
My cat’s fave toy is my eye glasses holder. Like you put around yr neck. Panther Lilly loves it❤
The puzzle box one looks awesome. Im gonna try that for sure. Now to collect the paper towel roll tubes 😊
Why can I not stop watching these videos? I don't even have a cat.
LOVE the idea of the puzzle toy!❤️♾️❤️ Thanks for the inspiration & how-to's!
She nailed the wand part Jackson. You on the other hand sniffed too much cat nip 😊 Great video. thanks for the tips.
I love how clear and instructional she is
I'll definitely be making the puzzle toy tomorrow. A perfect toy which I can easily make more than one of for each cat (a 6 year old and a 6 month old). Terrific suggestions and video. Thanks, Jackson and Kate!! Happy Holidays!
Me too, especially since puzzle toys are often soooo unnecessarily expensive!
I’ve made kickers with old socks before.
My cats are also big fans of toilet paper tubes, I seriously just toss one down and it’s fun for hours until it gets knocked under something. They also like empty masking tape rolls (my boys are weird)
Na they are not weird!! They are totally normal! ❤
@@kellychumley8353 they are also orange, so that might explain a lot
so cute! My cat was watching this episode with me and loving it until 14:06 when he sped up the process and she got really upset and went under the bed. LOL
Our cats 2 favourites: butterfly of paper on a string on a stick.
Also monkey firsts made with thick cotton or hemp yarn.
Then of course the boxes and baskets and hollow tree trunks (cleaned to stay in the house, great for scratchy scratchy playing and chilling
My cat is very hyperactive at the moment and I'm very broke, THIS video is what I NEEDED! Thank you a lot 😀
What fabulous ideas! I love it all!
*hot glue hurts, I agree! I haven't glued my fingers together yet. I save that for super glue!😁
Oh this was fantastic timing! I've been looking at different toys right now as my lot are struggling with the winter blues. I make my own cat nip toys, But never knew to add a paper or plastic bag for that crinkle bag effect. Some redesigns coming on here and I can't wait to try the puzzle box. Thank you so much! Fun and entertaining, thank you 😊
My cat loves my diy 'thing on a string' 😂 one is a casetify phone lanyard with a Loops earplug case clipped on-she loves swatting at it in the air then grabbing it and trying to bite the round plastic case 😅
The second one is just a shoe lace with a small kinder surprise toy tied on the end. Its supposed to be a spinning top toy and is like the outline of a plane, so theres space to thread the shoelace through
Jackson's "joy" at learning he needs the glue gun again had me laughing.
