- I'd like to introduce you to our newest family member...Bucky the Cat. I decided to build him a little kitty playground where he can test his abilities and also get away from our dogs every once in awhile. With the high price of wood lately I decided to build everything out of scrap wood from past projects.

Great obstacle course. Maybe you need to attach a pillow to the bed with Velcro. Otherwise, it will be easier for the pillow to slip, and the cat may fall down.

I love this! Especially the hexagons that was a very cool addition. One of them has an exit that seems to be oriented into open air and you can see Bucky having some issue with it at 6:07. A small platform under the hexagon might be worthwhile.

Fun video, and what a lucky cat! I love how he just immediately started working out on it. The cleat system is a revelation, and the way you constructed and assembled that hexagon was jaw dropping. Thanks! I've had a fantasy of making ceiling-height play areas for my cats for many years.

You need carpet on them octagon pieces too, at least he would be able to prevent a slip fall.

The loose pillow on the bed concerns me the most. I'd sew on some tassels to secure it. (or grommets).

Amazing! I would recommend to secure the little fish pillow as well, so it won't slip while he's sleeping on it or jumping on it, since that could cause some injury. But other than that, amazing!
I actually removed the pillow and put on the carpet. Just for the same reason you mentioned!! Great idea.
the fact that your willing to build something for your cat using left over materials at your house instead of waiting until you can afford the materials at the store then build it is heartwarming.

Ditch the bridges though, cats like platforms that feel secure. Learned that after my first attempt. Also unless your cat is older, you need WAY less shelves than you think. Its faster and easier for cats to make one long jump than lots of small ones.
I lost my cat, also named Bucky a few months ago(he was 14). You did an amazing job on this! I hope your Bucky brings you many years of happiness as mine did!

Awesome stuff - my other half loved it, told her I can make something similar, but for me to be able to do that, I need my man shed first plus all the associated equipment and tools. This clip has finally convinced her that my man shed and associated equipment and tools are an absolute necessity for every modern household - thank you, thank you and thank you. I would make the bed a bit bigger though, our Ms Muppet is rather fussy about that sort of thing and what Ms Muppet wants Ms Muppet gets so says the other half

@Dutch Are The Best Right. You need more tools to execute Ms Muppet project. While you’re at it , convince your significant other that you need full man - cave. Computer station , gaming , darts, an obscenely large wide screen tv for all sports [football aka soccer, cricket ,tennis]. Maybe a bar w/ stool chairs for your crew too- just tell her you’ll offer tea or capuccino also lol
Clever use of tape to help put the boxes together. LOVE the little Indianna Jones kitty bridge. Bed on the wall is so cute surprised he didn't take a nap after the first workout. You obviously love cats and you are a master craftsman. Hopefully you can market these items or at least sell the plans. Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to go find my drill.

Super cat tree! My husband built a catio for our new kitty this spring and he has been the happiest kitty ever! Since the weather is getting colder, perhaps it is time for an inside "gym" like you have built!

@@GoodlyEarth I'ld like to add that your woodworking skills are superb! The multi-sided shelf that you rolled up to complete the shape, was amazing! I've never seen anything like that done before. Thanks. I imagine you have to calculate the angle of the side cuts to get the boards to fit well.
Looks good! But you should put carpet on every single space where Bucky is walking, so he can always be safe up there!

Love Maine Coone cats. They have such wonderful playful personalities. I've been wanting to do an indoor play system for my cats for awhile. So many great ideas out there that it's hard to settle on what will work for my space and what will keep my kitties interested.

And you’re using the right tools!!! I loved watching him have so much fun BUT what bout when he gets bigger and navigating that bridge. I look forward to seeing a video of that when the time gets here.
I have 8 dogs and 8 cats and since all the climbing trees etc. are all so expensive, I also try to make a lot myself. For the cats, I set up the whole attic as a playground. Although they often and also like to play with their buddies and the dogs.

I do that..repurpose wood..even old decking..pressure wash it..sand it, stain it if needed..And USE IT FOR WHATEVER. Bucky’s bed needs a SAFTY rail. Also a little. It of carpets on all slippery crabbing surfaces. Great idea.. I have built my own cat trees and cat cubbies.. sold some too.. that was tears ago. I got carpet ruminants for free at carpet stores..

I had a lot of fun just watching this. Bucky is so cute by the way. I have 3 cats right now 2 boys and 1 girl. Their names are Alfred, Lucky and Truffles. I wish I could build something nice like this for them it would definitely keep their minds from wanting to go outside all the time. I can understand though because staying in the house can definitely be boring.

Looks like your build was made for a kitten vs. a fully grown cat. Gotta wonder if he will still climb and be able to navigate this course when he's fully grown.
Why wouldn't he? He may have to crouch in the hexagons and curl tightly to fit in the bed, but that's what cats DO. I don't see any issues unless the cat grows to be 30# or the size of an average Bassett Hound (I think a beagle or smaller would still fit; using dogs for easy comparison) One of my pussycats is almost 25# -not fat, just BIG - & about the size of a Westie; he'd fit, tho he'd prolly not need the climbing posts; cld go from platform to platform & the rope bridge would need reinforcement jic.
