PoE Theory: Who are Chaos and the Trialmaster? - Ultimatum League

Who's that Trialmaster? Before Ultimatum launches, I have some theories on who (or what) the Trialmaster could be, and more importantly who he serves: Chaos, the Vaal entity driving this league.

Something else that's interesting is after you kill the trialmaster in the boss fight, he says his service is finally over, and then a portal opens and a new trialmaster steps out and says his service continues.
It sort of implies that the trialmaster exists outside reality and isn't just 1 being. Perhaps portaling in and out of the realm of Nightmare?

Just to add go this lore, when you go on a long win streak and then lose he sometimes says "It's been done master, torture me no longer" or smthng like that. So trial master definitely working for someone or being controlled by someone

I'm just seeing this video after your previous one on the Maven. It could be that the Progenitor is coming and his "Envoy" is the trialmaster, who wants to test and experiment and understand how the exile fights before he comes for the Atlas. And this could connect to why the vaal civilization was so obsessed with chaos and sacrifices. They might have been gifting an eldrich being for power.

In PoE 2 we get a lot of blood tentacle-esque visual from our enemies. What if all the blood spilled on these trials is just fuel for these entities so much time later? Like a giant Vaal ritual or something that will only come into play hundreds of years later.

Noodle - I have an idea, that you might like - it involves PoE 2 and one Divine lady, trapped in one item, who likes to comment on things, as you travel though PoE. That's all I will say. I hope that you're as hyped about the potential of it as I am. Because if, IF(!) GGG will make this a thing - that PoE 2's playthrough will be GLORIUS.

The tethering part to me sounds more like the organs kept malachai mortal, and this removing them severed the tether to mortality, making him immortal, which is why bringing them back to him allows you to kill him.
Doesn't really change the theory, though. Makes sense to me

This is great! Hope for new flavor text on uniques and lines to confirm this theory or reveal something new. But we're close to PoE2 don't think they should introduce new entitys. It's time to close a few things before we go to PoE2 lore, this leagues should do that. He've the Eldritch lore with the Maven, now we get more lore for the Vaals (I hope so). And soon we get enough material to close a few gaps in Path of Exile history before PoE2.

Ps: since incursion ggg seams to isolate leagues lore-wise. Maybe it is to avoid internal contradictions, maybe it is because they want to save the best for poe 2. Or maybe they wish to avoid a synthesis problem, in that they make a lot of lore stuff to a league that does not go core...

After the Harvest nerf I just think that the Trialmaster is some kind of metaphor for GGG. He gets more mad the more you win and in the end fights you in a fight with no flask replenishment and one shot mechanics (sound familiar?). Only when you lose, is he satisfied and not raging. For the sake of there being balance in the universe, you must get oneshot once in a while I guess.

I thought maybe doryani surfaced again in order to use us to gather more souls and blood, perhaps grew weak over time, or lost power with the death of the beast, perhaps he sees the arival of new powerful warriors as an opportunity to finally complete his creation and bring atziri back
