As someone who has had a few nervous breakdowns, I can tell you that your mind is totally not your own at that point. You think completely differently than you normally would and it's a constant internal fight.

    • @montananerd8244
      @montananerd8244 4 месяца назад +8

Honestly this is so true. I never took off during a breakdown, but at 19-25 yrs, the highest risk time, I didn't have a car. By the time I did, I had promised myself I'd head to the ER next time I had the first sign of trouble. But I did some very bizarre things & people forget that during a breakdown, manic phase, psychotic break or other serious "falling apart," we can easily hurt ourselves fatally. Your mind can be racing, and some people don't even realize if they are speeding in that state. I think people sometimes want a really complex mystery or a very cohesive narrative, and I really appreciate that this channel does not entertain this missing 411 nonsense. Part of mental health awareness is understanding the limitations we face in keeping ourselves safe when we are not competent, which can happen to lots of people- I'm freaking brilliant tbh & I do fantastic things at my job, but my mind is wonky sometimes, and I'm not always competent, esp in my younger years. We can lose control of cars, attempt physical feats we aren't capable of, or get lost in severe environments very easily. And Mother Nature is brutal, and she does not grant wishes...

I've never had a nervous breakdown, but I have autism and meltdowns are a very frequent occurance for me at the moment. I don't feel in control of myself during meltdowns, but I also kind of don't realise that I'm not in control, if that makes sense. Meltdowns also make me catastrophize and feel like my whole life is over and nothing can be fixed, this often leads to me feeling as though I'd be better off dead.
I'm sorry if I'm talking too much about myself here, I'm not trying to take over, it's just that I know how bad my meltdowns make me feel, and I can imagine that a full on breakdown must be even more horrible.

I wonder if he took cash out to buy/pay for something. Could he have an appointment for a flight lesson/purchase from Craigslist etc ....although that's a very long journey for a purchase. But it may explain the cash withdrawal and still using his debit cards. I googled it and Mena does have a flight school...just incase it's of use.
In the shop footage, he does seem in a rush...he is fidgety, unless he has ADHD (like me), most people only do that when in a rush or stressed.
And this final part is very very shaky, but in the external petrol station pictures, in one of the pictures there almost looks like a face in the passenger seat. All the others have reflections, so it could just be that and I'm seeing a face where there isn't one.

The going to purchase something was what I thought of immediately too!
It is a long distance, but I've definitely had friends who have gone cross country for purchases if it's something specific (specific type of show cattle, etc).

First off let me say that I love Aunt Penny, she seems like she could be everyone's aunt and her determination to find Josh and her love for Josh was very evident in this interview. Jordan seems very intelligent and the close relationship that she and Josh share is something that everyone who is close with a sibling can relate to. As far as what's happened to Josh, I can't say but I definitely think he's still out there somewhere and will return,I think he was just overwhelmed and needed to get away and as the time went on maybe he felt funny about being gone so long and he's perhaps embarrassed to contact anyone now. I just hope that he's found safe and he and his family can return to their normal lives and have a happy reunion.

Sounds to me like he was going to purchase something for the $400 cash plus $4-$7,000 from the attic because he is not using the cash during his trip, if he was going to buy something illegal then I hope it wasn't a robbery gone bad. That's a lot of cash to be going by yourself to buy anything in another state. And If someone took his car and are still using it they usually find the same model of car in a parking lot and take their license plate to put on the hot car, its much safer if they find one in another state so the local license plate readers won't give dmv info on their pc. This is exactly what I was thinking! I've made purchases like this before, often on craigslist (perfectly legal ones for livestock equipment, etc) and they're often done in cash. My behavior would have looked much like this: pulled cash, but used a debit card to buy snacks and fuel on the subsequent road trip to go meet up with the seller.
Edit to note: always bring a friend or two, let people know where you're going, and try to meet in a public place if you can to be safe doing this!
I guess the one weird thing that seems to contradict this is why his phone was left at home....

It doesn't have to be anything criminal he was going off to buy. If it wasn't drugs maybe he was going to buy something unique because most things could be found much closer to home. I was wondering if maybe a buddy from the military had called and asked him for help with money, requested a loan or something. My final thought is had he had a girlfriend or person in the past that meant a lot to him? My sister once had an ex show up at her apartment the night before he was getting married. He had cold feet and said he knew it was a mistake to marry the girl, they brought him to my house and we all talked into the wee hours. He said he could not cancel the wedding, relatives had flown in from all over the country, the wedding was huge, etc. The wedding happened and within 2 years they were divorced. Maybe Josh did have cold feet but that's not a good reason to ghost your whole family. I feel like something bad happened to Josh.

I’m Josh’s good friend. Long time neighbor to him in Iowa. We lived in a duplex unit on either side. Josh has no prior criminal record to my knowledge. Not anything major enough to be flagged or raise concern. Also my thinking with the money isn’t necessarily a single purchase, more so a safety net for him to float off of while he is traveling off the radar. You can buy a lot of cans of beans and fishing bait with a few thousand dollars so I really do believe that is the most likely scenario in regards to the money. Gives him the ability to make untraceable purchases if need be.

Maybe he was going to buy something he wanted or needed that had to do with his move. Maybe something he wanted to surprise his GF with. The person that claimed to have the item and posted it could've specified cash only. That would explain why all along the way he used his credit card and spent none of the cash. I know $400 is not a huge amount of money but some people have done terrible things to steal less from people. I hope he just needed to get away for a while and will realize that even though he may not have paid his rent or other bills he won’t be going to jail when he returns. It’s all very small even if it feels like it’s the biggest problem in the world. Return home, Josh!

Something has taken this young man towards a goal of some time he was heading somewhere obviously not sure what LE can do further other then put out a missing persons citation. He’s gone on his on accord at least that is what it looks like. Hopefully he’s ok and will be found soon.

Hi John. Am outside of the US hence my limited knowledge. Would you be able to explain more about amber alerts and how missing people are classified? I understand that an Amber alert could be issued in one state but not another under the exact same circumstances.
Is it resource based versus circumstance based? I'm genuinely curious. You covered a case about 6 months ago where a woman reliant on a wheelchair and daily medication went missing. I asked why she wasn't classified as a vulnerable adult at the time for example.
Thanks for all you do for the families and friends in these featured cases. Not just the coverage but also the donations. Best regards from the UK

Amber alerts are used for missing children (17 & under). Missing adults unfortunately aren't given as much attention because LE will chalk it up to a runaway situation. And unfortunately to my knowledge, the only ones who can issue an amber alert is LE. So it's to their discretion.

God bless Joshua, I hope he's ok. There was a time years ago when I felt I did something wrong and overreacted and wanted to run away but decided not to because I was scared. I hope that he didn't drive into a body of water, or that someone didn't hurt him. I hope that he's just hiding because he's scared of something... but I don't think with this family that he'd feel hated for anything he did. They seem very chill.

I hope Joshua is alright and if so, he finds the courage to reach out to family and friends. Sometimes avoiding confrontation or do not wanting to hurt someone's feeling...the longer it goes, the weight of it grows. (Only speculation with positive message was my intention).

two....theories...the car not being found is something
...i don't know the terrian in the area the plate reading stopped but .....maybe he if he camped out ....in a tent or in his car two things happened he got high jacked
i find that he was a bit antsy in the footage but seeing that be his normal then ...fine but he also looked driven to go on his task
if he didn't get high jacked then he could've on a positiveish not back dealed traded his car with someone and he's driving someone else's and the person hasn't register it cause he has a land he can keep it and use doesn't need to
i also don't wanna....blame anyone but it was just briefly noted and moved on that the girlfriend helped move and clean his house.....was there anything in the house besides the phone ...also if he left his phone in the house why was there a 911 ...call
money wasn't taken unknown if he did or anyone else
i don't know i feel like something is off here feels very off to me

He must have made the 911 call from his place and then when the call ended he left the apartment but left his phone there. Thats why the GF found the phone the next day when she went to his room place.

I’m a good friend of Josh’s, he made the 911 call and within the time dispatch decided to send a unit to his house he left town just before they arrived and left his phone in his residence. I was also there to clean out Josh’s unit. Pretty much every item he owned was still there apart from a tent, a pillow, his fishing pole, and a bag of clothes. Everything else of his seemed to be accounted for.

Hopefully LE checked local stores for video of him possibly buying a burner phone.
Did he ever buy stuff through Craig's list or on line? Anyway he might have had a phone he used to contact sellers? Taking cash and taking off for what looked to be a quick long trip. ( extra cat food). Or maybe to help an military friend? Pick someone up? Maybe an military friend that he kept in contact with on a different phone, that was in crisis, he called 911, because he was concerned for them, but then decided to just go to them himself?

In the one gas station video, it kind of appeared that he was in a hurry but not like run out the door hurry.
Is it possible that he left to meet up with an old Army buddy that needed help and it went south? Military buddies are often tight and don’t share what is going on with outsiders. I’m wondering if anyone has checked out old military connections. Just a thought.
