Great video mate, thank you for putting in the time. Very well done with lots of information. I've already ordered one 2 weeks ago. I wish people's comments would take into account the time you put into it instead of been brainless trolls
Nice balanced review. I think this is an awesome move from EO. I have a hard to find birrset made by mazzer 151G, and they work nice for filter in my mazzer major. But I am really interested in this grinder. Thanks for another nice review!
Really great review. I’m considering ditching my espresso setup and going full on filter. What would you suggest between the Sculptor 078 and the DF83V with the brew burrs? How much of an upgrade over my K Max would it be?
Thank you!!! I should hopefully have my 078 soon… maybe! So I’ll be able to do a side by side comparison for filter brewing vs this grinder. As far as compared to the KMax I can’t give you any comparison there cause I’ve actually never used one!!
Some people have commented that the wave-springs may have caused poor alignment, because the waves are a bit too large on the DF83 they should have many smaller waves ideally. Not sure if I noticed that with mine, but someone was saying alignment would change for his if he rotated the wave spring in a different orientation! I have no clue what MY wave spring placement was like initially! I never did alignment on mine but my Gen1 DF83 v1 seems to be performing well for me!
I never experienced poor alignment as a result of the wave spring on either the DF64g2 or DF83g2. Unless something is wrong with the wave spring I don’t see how it couldn’t spread the load evenly. I worked in the automotive industry for a long time and a lot of automatic transmissions use wave springs to evenly apply pressure to the clutch packs. If it’s good enough for something more critical than coffee I think it’s probably fine! 😝
@@coffeenerdaaron Nice, good to know! It was just the one guy who mentioned he noticed (a lot of people may not notice little issues though) it's also possible his was bent out of shape or something who knows.
If you had 1k to spend. What would you get. Cheaper and spend the same amount on a different burr set. or larger burr no upgraded on the burr. Variable or not? I'm on the fence and ready to pick a side.
@@scoobtoober2975 while burr size does factor in somewhat when it comes to performance and taste I would care more about quality and burr style/geometry. I would get the best quality grinder in your budget that has a good burr that works well for your primary brewing method. It really depends on how you typically brew and your flavor preferences. If you only do filter brewing and want flat burrs then something like the Gen 2 Ode is great and it would save you some money that you could then put into upgrading the burrs later after you’ve experienced the stock burrs to figure out what you like and don’t like. The Timemore 078 is one of my favorite grinders for filter brewing but if you do espresso also the 078S is an option, both under $1k. There are so many options for grinders and burrs, it’s hard to say without knowing your preferences but like I said I would care about the quality of the grinder and burrs before care about the burr size.

Several questions: 1)How do we figure out the zero point? The issue I'm having is the dial know is either too loose where it doesnt catch/turn the dial disk underneath, or its too tight for me to move. So I'm constantly having to find the zero point. 2) I have light roast beans and it jams ... i have to open it up clean it out, and that leads to the dial knob misaligning ... then i'm back to square one 😂.... what setting do you recommend for light roast beans? 3) should i start the machine first and then add beans? Or vice versa? Thanks
Buttons are a little bit off. It would be nice if all functional elements be on one side, not three(left, front, right). Except power button, that should be behind, near cable. Overall very good looking grinder with nice functionality.
How does this grinder's under-load db compare to the Lagom P64's? I am glad to see this more powerful variable speed Turin. Sprometheus stated that he had recurring jamming issues with the DF64V.
Unfortunately I don’t have a P64 to compare so I can’t give you an accurate answer on the comparison of volume while grinding. It hasn’t stalled on me yet but that’s not to say it absolutely won’t. I’m sure there is a scenario where the right type of beans and grind setting at low rpm may cause it to bind and stall, time will tell for that 😆
I own the df64v and I can confirm no stalling on light roast when the motor is running. There are pre production models send to reviewers where stalling was an issue. The release models don’t have these issues. ✌🏻
@@FyyMyy Thankyou for chiming in. Can you confirm that that's the case with cold starts as well as hot? If it still has issues with cold starts, I'm thinking it ought to have a more powerful motor.
I purchase Gorilla Gear 64mm burrs for an older ODE. The motor is dying. I only do Pulse and Chemex pour over. What 64mm burr grinder do you recommend so I can use my Gorilla burrs or is the move to 83V a better option?
The DF64 V2 is 64mm and spins at the same RPM as the Ode but with a stinger motor. Plus the motor is strong enough for espresso grinding if you ever get into espresso. I had Gorilla Gear burrs in a DF64 for a while and liked it. In my experience those burrs are better suited for espresso but they do well for filter brewing too.
Apparently higher RPM breaks more % of the beans, and lower RPM breaks less. Not sure if it really makes much of a difference but would be interesting to compare and experiment.
Unfortunately I don’t have nor have I used a Zerno so I can’t give you an accurate comparison. I’ve heard great things about the Zerno, from what I understand the build quality is crazy good!
I have used the 64mm MP’s and felt like I had a hard time with most coffees getting the sweet spot. Maybe I didn’t spend enough time with them to get a better feel for them but it just felt like they had a smaller window to dial in with. That being said I have had some fantastic cups from the larger 98mm MP burrs on an EK, and I do know a lot of people love the MP’s as a whole. I’ve never compared them side by side so it’s hard to recall what they tasted like compared to these, especially since it was also different coffees. If I can get my hands on a set I will definitely be testing them side by side!
I received mine yesterday, and today I was playing a bit with the settings, trying to dial up the same type of grinding I normally use with my manual grinder, but it's proving challenging :p But hey, thanks to you, I learned how to set the absolute zero! I do not get a kick back, none of my links are ever affiliate links, I just provide them so people can link to them quickly.
I'm just going to say it - this sounds like an ad.
It's a day one review. All day one reviews sound like an ad. But at least he told us about the Prebreaker.
I definitely wasn’t planning on it being an add, I don’t get paid to do these reviews other than receiving a product, these are my actual feelings on the grinder.
@@coffeenerdaaronfeels good to get a free grinder amirite
Every other creator is saying the exact same thing about this grinder-it’s great. Like all DF products, it’s an amazing deal. Get over it.
I get the same feeling 😊 when I watch this vid i really want to order
It looks ugly tbf, on and off button is stupid and that hopper ? Zero creativity
I hate the look of the grinder
Just a suggestion: You should redo your background for your videos. Pretty distracting. ☕️👏🏻
Stay away from Espresso Outlet and any retail Joe has association with.
why
Elaborate for us.
@@JeepBigEAccording to some other forums, apparently, they have horrible customer service. I don't live in the US, so this is not first-hand experience.
I am going to call BS, I have first hand experience with Espresso Outlet and their customer support was excellent. Maybe you should fact check?
If you have been a member of any of their FB groups and leave any negative feedbacks, they will ban and delete all of your posts.
They don’t like user feedback related to negativity.
Most of the DF series grinders have been plagued by multiple issues and if you buy one, you need to ensure you have good, reliable service from the seller who’s not going to hassle you.
