As others have said, this song was written by Brian. It was about his marriage breaking up while having an affair with Anita Dobson (who became his wife). Brian became deeply depressed and close to suicide. He came to the US for mental support at a program. His other song referring to this time in his life is “TOO MUCH LOVE WILL KILL YOU”. Listen carefully to the words he wrote, he was in terrible pain.
While Queen had done away with individual songwriting credits by this album, this was predominantly a Brian May song, though the lyrics are a perfect fit for Freddie's treatment by the tabloids and I am sure that he might have felt a connection to the song on a personal level also, or perhaps was involved in suggesting lyrics.

Good one David! I think it's amazing that Queen didn't do a song and video like this long before. The music press just loved to hate them! However their huge popularity afforded them the ability to ignore a lot of it for years. Is it any wonder that Freddie asked his band mates not to reveal his Aids diagnosis? They protected him right to the end.

The headline that hurt me the most after Freddie died read "Freddie's Dead" who does that, how absolutely SICK! No emotion, no compassion, just a sense of Ha! I was right! They should all feel so ashamed! The two things I truly wish people would remember about Freddie is first HE WAS A HUMAN BEING! The lyrics of Death On Two Legs was simply vicious (as Freddie said it), but the band was surely sick of the whole manhunt at this point and the lyrics reflects that well.

Yeah the media was always trashing Queen, and particularly Freddie. Freddie grew to mistrust them. Queen kept rising though which pissed the press off even more. Another great review, man. As others here have already stated, this was written by Brian (who was really going through it at the time). Fred was really pretty ill on the day of shooting this promo - but he gave it his all as usual (absolute trooper that man). Too Much love Will Kill You (another Brian-penned number about his struggles at that time) was also meant for this album but was pulled because of contractual issues at the time.
You might want to give a listen to Roger's "Dear Mr. Murdoch" which was on his 1994 album Happiness. I'd suggest the lyric video just to get the full impact of Roger's real feelings about the media tycoon.

Finally someone pays attention as it should to such a criminally underrated song like this...👏👏👏 "Scandal" is a diss track written by Brian for the tabloids...As per usual the all year's sick game against the band writing "sh*t" about them. How pathetic! It was about Brian's marital problems, his becoming divorce and the new love affair with his now wife. Also the loss of his father and Freddie's illness drove him to attempt to commit suicide. On the other hand, rumours and speculations about Freddie's health were being spread... Reporters staying outside of his house, chasing and stalking him 24/7... Freddie felt like a prisoner at his own home. Imagine someone watching every move and breaking into your house with a camera. Or searching your dustbin(!) to find the evidence you need for your next big fat headline! Outrageous? Yes, they had done all that...They had no scruples! The morons had gone to the greatest lengths to find the truth. Because they are vultures. It's disgusting. 🤢😡 And so Freddie's answer to all that paranoia and madness was through the music and this song. And later with "Innuendo". I love this song so much. Queen were not particularly enthralled with this video. They said they though it was a bit boring and they felt kinda separated.. where others are where they interact with one another. This was about how the media never left them alone. Brian's affair with Anita, his marriage ending and obviously how the never left poor Freddie alone. Roger was also Scandalised in the paper for his affair with the "flake advert" model. Mind you Roger was a bit of a naughty boy. He had tons of affairs. Lol. Mind you, the media is no better today.. the lyrics "nobody knows the truth from the lies" is ever prominent today.
Mate the British newspapers are some of the worst in the world, some right poison comes out of them. On a more positive note though a great song and a bit of a hidden gem. Another great Queen song I'd recommend to you is Good Company. It's a Brian May one off A Night At The Opera. Brian creates an entire jazz band out of just guitar, it really is something else. All the best mate.
I love this song, Freddie floating across the stage , came out when I was experiencing a terrible time in my life due to a breakup with a girl I'm still in love with , but not with. The NEW Miracle Sessions version is only the backing track , very cool version.

I believe Brian May wrote the lyrics to this song. Even though the whole band is credited for it. I think it was about how the press covered his affair with Anita Dobson while he was still married to his first wife.

"Scandal" is a diss track written by Brian for the tabloids...As per usual the all year's sick game against the band writing "sh*t" about them. How pathetic! It was about Brian's marital problems, his becoming divorce and the new love affair with his now wife. Also the loss of his father and Freddie's illness drove him to attempt to commit suicide.
On the other hand, rumours and speculations about Freddie's health were being spread... Reporters staying outside of his house, chasing and stalking him 24/7... Freddie felt like a prisoner at his own home. Imagine someone watching every move and breaking into your house with a camera. Or searching your dustbin(!) to find the evidence you need for your next big fat headline! Outrageous? Yes, they had done all that...They had no scruples! The morons had gone to the greatest lengths to find the truth. Because they are vultures. It's disgusting. 🤢😡
And so Freddie's answer to all that paranoia and madness was through the music and this song. And later with "Innuendo".

Queen were not particularly enthralled with this video. They said they though it was a bit boring and they felt kinda separated.. where others are where they interact with one another. This was about how the media never left them alone. Brian's affair with Anita, his marriage ending and obviously how the never left poor Freddie alone. Roger was also Scandalised in the paper for his affair with the "flake advert" model. Mind you Roger was a bit of a naughty boy. He had tons of affairs. Lol. Mind you, the media is no better today.. the lyrics "nobody knows the truth from the lies" is ever prominent today.
Mate the British newspapers are some of the worst in the world, some right poison comes out of them. On a more positive note though a great song and a bit of a hidden gem. Another great Queen song I'd recommend to you is Good Company. It's a Brian May one off A Night At The Opera. Brian creates an entire jazz band out of just guitar, it really is something else. All the best mate.
I love this song, Freddie floating across the stage , came out when I was experiencing a terrible time in my life due to a breakup with a girl I'm still in love with , but not with.
