They were both in awe of each other, and both were very nervous when they met for the first time. I think it's a beautiful friendship love story♥️ absolute perfection!
This is something out of our world. This is REAL music and this is Freddie's legacy. Divine voices. Montserrat and Freddie. Thank you so much for this amazing reaction.
The Barcelona album is one of Freddie's greatest achievements. There's not a bad track on the entire record. If you look at interviews with either Freddie or Montserrat, they held each other in the highest regard. Montserrat had only beautiful memories and stories of Freddie until her death. A real powerhouse duo... I wish they had been able to record a second album together.
And some people like to argue when Queen fans say Freddie Mercury is the greatest rock vocalist of all time. We aren't just saying it bc were Queen fans. He really was bc he could literally sing anything. I wonder what Freddie and Aretha would have come up with.
Still can't understand why you get the 'you stop/talk too much' comments David. I cant be the only one who thinks the more JackThatBacks there are the better. Your insight into each musical note vocal just adds too our enjoyment. Your reaction too this musical overdose is so beautiful to watch ❤
David!!!!! This is the most exciting review you have ever done! You hear so many things we don’t! You are so awesome! Freddie outdid himself writing these groundbreaking songs. Mike Moran and Freddie just killed them. Montserrat- she’s beyond anything and our Freddie is staying with it all!
So glad they got to sing together, what a magical performance! Who would have thought it - an opera star and a rock singer making music together. All the songs they did together on the Barcelona album are just sublime and the love and respect they had for one another is just beautiful to see. And thank you for your reaction, I can tell you were blown away by this amazing duo. Love the way you can pick out sounds and special vocals I would probably miss except for the "jack it backs"!
Just wanted to say how much I love your reviews, mate. As a diehard Queen fan I have heard and watched it all and now find enjoyment watching others react to the band. I watch most of the Queen reaction videos on here and I have to say I find yours to be my favourite because I think you are genuine and honest and wear your heart on your sleeve (some reviewers just go through the motions and don't really feel the music, but you get right into it). As a lifelong Queen fan, it warms my heart to see someone like yourself show such respect and love towards the band and especially towards dear Freddie (one of the most beautiful and original souls to ever grace this planet) - I think he would adore your enthusiasm and your genuine emotions to his (and Queen's) music. Take care and all the best to you.
David.. Have always loved this song but never loved it as much as I do now after your reaction !!! It was … is a musical overdose!! ( you coined a great new phrase !!) I had goosebumps head to toe through most of it. When I need to feel it’s Christmas I will just replay your reaction!! Freddie was happy ! Montsy was happy ! Those fabulous singers were happy ! The orchestra was happy ! You were happy ! And I am so happy watching this😂♥️. Joy and happiness all over and God knows we need that right now. Thank you for the best reaction ever 😘
Great! If you like the low voice on this song, check out their other duet Guide Me Home, he sings low and goes up the scale with great passion and power to match Montserrat's incredible range on that track too. There's no live version of it but check out the lyric video.
What a wonderful reaction👏Your enthusiasm is palpable!! If you'd like to hear Montse in her own element, I *HIGHLY* recommend her singing Casta Diva at Orange in 1974, from the opera Norma. It was an open air production, that took place during a windstorm, and rather than hinder, it adds this other worldly effect. And Montserrat's voice... you will melt🥴👌
Another great reaction, have a listen to a track called La Japonaise by Freddie and Monserat,,how on earth do you begin to write a track like that my God Freddie was a true genius
You are such a joy to watch. I have been watching you from when you first started and you are Fantastic ! These two were Angels taken from us to early. I just want to say thank you for all the joy you bring .💕💕
When someone asked Montserrat what she experienced singing with Freddie, she said "freedom". Traditional opera has such constraints which she was used to. Peter Straker, Freddie's friend, was one of the backup singers and John Deacon played in the orchestra.
Great reaction as always. Funny how you said he's the Mt Rushmore of singers. Another reactor said something similar. That there can't be a Mt Rushmore without Freddie on it. I couldn't agree with the two of you more. He was and still is the greatest vocalist ever!
Yay!! So glad you did it! I was one of the many people asking for The Golden Boy. Musical perfection and yes a musical overdose. Freddie said when he first heard Montserrat he had just heard the best voice in the world. He wrote Barcelona and she asked him to do more, saying how many songs does a rock n roll album have. He said about 10 and her reply was we'll do 10 then! They thought the world of each other and it shows. Will try to find out who those backing singers were for you. Freddies natural baritone voice is amazing. What a range. What a man. What a reaction! Mwah! Edit: Madeline Bell - backing vocals. Debbie Bishop - backing vocals. Lance Ellington - backing vocals. Miriam Stockley - backing vocals. Also Peter Straker his long time friend. Madeline Bell one time singer with Blue Mink.
Plus Freddie was suffering with bad headaches an vomiting an just didn't feel good ! But he killed it with monsty voice an help god bless them both ☺️❤️😎🥰💗🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹👑👑👏👏✌️🍀🌟💫🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Maybe the only thing better than enjoying this masterpiece by Freddie and Montserrat is watching you as you are totally amazed by it for the first time!

A 26 min reaction??? wasn't thrilled seeing that. Then there we were -- me wrapped up in that fabulous production with your commentary and here I remain....going thru it AGAIN; loving your appreciation, Montserrat and Freddie, the music - totally mesmerising! Of course it's not at all new to me...in fact, the Barcelona album, for a long time, a stone cold favourite of mine, now more so. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. Freddie (Mike Moran too)may have picked the folks to giving us those spectacular back-up voices. Freddie has Queen's bass player, John Deacon playing Bass on "How Can I Go On" also Roger Taylor's son, Rufus on drums...not on this tho....Backing vocals on this are Madeline Bell, Debbie Bishop, Lance Ellington, Mariam Stockley, Peter Straker, Mark Williamson, and Carol Woods...(from their names off the CD insert.).
Hi David your Queen reactions are by far the best out there love it as some of the guys have said how can I go on is a great song keep up the good work 👏 👊 👍 🤘
I loved your reaction to this gorgeous piece. You can hear Freddie and Monserrat sing beautifully in Spanish in 'Ensueno'. And please, in Japanese in 'La Japonaise', both from this same album. They are truly magnificent together.
That was a brilliant reaction..keep up the great work👏🏻....Freddie was so lucky to have a four octave range...switching from his chest voice to his head voice with such ease...he wrote the whole album “Barcelona “ for Montsy..check out the story of how they met...also David Mallet produced this...he was Queen’s go to guy for production..this had such a gospel feel to it🤩
React to "The Golden Boy (2nd Early Version)". This is the demo tape that Freddie sang Montsy's part. He sang in three voices, bariton, rock & soprano. Love love love ❤❤. Freddie is the golden boy 😍😍🥰
Thank you for another GREAT reaction, David!! We LOVE the way you analyze the music, so you 'jackitback' as much as you want... and yes, it is/was quite amazing (or even divine) that these two geniuses would collab and create a whole new genre of music, Rock/Opera/Gospel... guess you could say it was 'made in heaven' or even 'a kinda magic'... Speaking of geniuses, still waiting to hear "HOLY MAN" by Brian and Roger... another stellar song by QUEEN... thanks so much and keep'em comin'... blessings!
Loved your reaction. I absolutely love this song. They are amazing together. I don't know if you have heard this song HOW CAN I GO ON. Also they did this song too ENSUENO . These two songs are amazing too. Check them out. Thank you DAVID for doing QUEEN videos. Take care and have a great day. Your friend, QUEEN BEE 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Freddie wrote most of these songs for this occasion. This was initiated by him and it was his dream come true. Soon after, more opera singers started to rethink this type of blend. They are magical together. I"m so proud of him as he held his own and then some.
Oooh man, you did it! I loved every second of your reaction, 'cos it brought me back in time when I was 11 and heard this very song (and the album) for the first time, Gee, love it, love it, love it. Montserrat had (she was, she still is and she will always be The Goddes among the opera singers) a most beautiful soprano in my opinion, and the gospel part is so amazing, the goosebumps, you're right. And "How can I Go On" is another masterpiece, please, be so kind and make a reaction to it? Also, there's record of Montserrat singing "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", it's a part of A.L. Webber musical "The Phantom Of The Opera", Freddie loved it, so Montserrat recorded this piece for him. It's so beautiful and knowing that Freddie was very ill at that time really can make you tearful... ruclips.net/video/1hoLe55TT-c/видео.html - here's the link
The Golden Boy is my favorite song off the Barcelona album!! Freddie & Montsy were great musical friends. They adored each other! Fun fact: Montsy loaned Freddie her gown & tiara from the Phantom Of The Opera so he could display it in Garden Lodge (glass case). Later, Montsy needed to use her gown & tiara for a show so Freddie made her promise to return them. Sadly, she never had the chance to do so! 🥺
@Debra Moore, the gown and tiara were from Lucrezia Borgia - the opera that turned her into the definition of an overnight sensation across the (operatic) world. Hence the poignancy of Freddie wanting them. 🙂
Ah David- you know what I see? You and Freddie setting there yelling- ‘Jack that Back!!’ You are absolutely killing these reactions!! OMGGG! You are eating and breathing this music- it’s so apparent! Please do more of the Barcelona Album!! And of course- these are Freddie’s songs- his words- his gospel- takes the top of your head off! YES- RUSHING!!💛💛
Have watched you on the sideline for ages. Now subscribed 👍. Glad you spent the time this song deserves. At the time this was a ground breaking formula, people were kind of bewildered. I believe if Freddie had lived on we would have got alot more of this .
Yay!!!! So glad you are reacting to this, loving your reaction!. When they all sang that last "slowly" you reacted just like I always do and it was a joy to watch your joy. I don't know the soloists from the backing chorus, sorry. Also, I think it's worth pointing out the incredible difficulty of doing the sort of "recitative" that Freddie did at the beginning and end - the control needed is crazy.
Awesome reaction! It you want to see Freddie do a more operatic style check out Ensueno - Freddie & Montserrat. Freddie is not a baritone, all new male opera singers usually start at baritone because it is in the middle range. Freddie could sing a few low notes, but he very rarely sang low notes, and he mostly sang in full chest voice. He could sing a few low notes well, because he was a heavy voiced tenor, a Spinto tenor. Spinto tenors and heavy voiced tenors can sing a few low notes well, because they have a lot of lower frequencies in their voices, they are often mistaken for baritones, it even often happens in opera. When you sing with an opera style your voice sounds much darker, even the lightest tenors in opera sounds far darker then contemporary singers, Freddie was going for a more operatic sound at the start, he is not singing that low only around Bb2. Heldentenors can be expected to sing as low as A2. Montserrat was known for pianissimo, she had a great skill to sing high notes with incredible softness, I suggest you check out O Mio Babbino Caro. Listen to an opera Spinto tenor, and hear how dark and heavy their voices sound, E Lucevan Le Stelle - Franco Corelli. A lot of people see opera as boring and soulless or over dramatic, but good opera singers sound amazing and they do sing with a lot of emotion as well, they have to, it is one of the most important aspects of a great opera performance. Opera singers that are not that great might appear somewhat boring, but even the not so great opera singers are still usually good singers because they have to be.
One could say Freddie became a "real singer" here. Cause he went for vocal coaching to prepare himself. This also reflected why mercury's singing is so great on the miracle and innuendo.
Superb reaction 🥰. Montsy and Freddie were incredible together. Well worth watching some of the interviews with her recalling the time they spent together and others relating the spine tingling musical love affair between them. 👑❤️👑❤️👑
Awesome reaction! I enjoy your reactions and the insights you share so very much! And thanks for reacting to this beautiful song. I agree with your term “musical overdose” and all your comments only made me enjoy it more. They were such an unexpected duo - not surprising that Freddie would do something unexpected!
Love them together. You definitely had an overdose of caffeine today. All this time and I’ve never seen you stop so much. I had to start laughing when only a few seconds went bye. Lol Guide me Home is a good one also. They did an entire album together. It’s called Barcelona. Just in case you might want to download. The 2 of them became very good friends. She was at the unveiling of his statue in Switzerland.
Hi David. I have watched quite a few of your reactions to the Queen videos and it's great to see a genuine reaction to Queens music, it does take your breath away. I see you have watched In the lap of the Gods live but you must listen to the album version the beginning will blow your socks off. Loads of other fantastic Queen tracks to listen to so keep the great work up.
"HER!" Is US-born, UK-based backing singer Madeline Bell. She was a lead vocalist with 1960/70's group Blue Mink and had a couple of hits with "Melting Pot" & "Banner Man". And to think, I've spent the last 3 decades believing I was the only one who loved the "Barcelona" album!
Your review was as heartfelt as the performance! Well done, David. I’ve been waiting for u to check out this song because I knew you would be mesmerized with the harmonies and gospel undertones. I play this song over and over because I love it so much. Thanks for this and keep those Queen videos coming! 🙋🏽♀️✌🏾👑
Amazing reaction David not heard this for a long time you forget how great they were together and I hope they are singing together up above you always pick up on things that we don’t and that’s why we love all your reactions thank you take care of yourself look forward to the next one x x
I love every song from Barcelona album, it ´s a true masterpiece. React, please, sometime to It ´a a Hard Life live from Rio 85, great performance, love your reaction
Listen to Exercises in Free Love. It’s Freddie singing a soprano part which he sent to Montsy. The song ended up being Ensueño. It’s outstanding. Listen to both please.
Others have done it - not in the same way - but Luciano Pavarotti - has performed with Queen ( Brian May and Roger Taylor ) in 2003 - Too much love will kill you. You can find it om You Tube.
Thanks -- look how much fun Montsy is having! the combo of opera & gospel is astounding! always like your reactions.. despite "back... back.. back..." lol
Great reaction David! I'm such a fan girl of u, and of course our awesome Freddie! Keep it up David, you're getting better all the time, man! Thanks for the entertainment.
Don’t feel bad I’m just glad you keep stopping. I can’t take these two and keep my cool. I get exited with every note lol. I’m just an granny who has a grandson who lives music , like you. His videos are Ben Swihart . He plays all sax mostly beri , keyboard bass clarinet, bass guitar, he picked up my sons bass last week and he on video. Tries singing. He loves Queen. Anyway he tries Nevermore, love of my life and who wants to live forever. By doesn’t sound like Freddie yet. Just an overview. This has his classmates coloring their hair and they all know Ben will usually come on stage on in his gold shoes and gold jacket with black lapels. This was middle school when he was shy, now he’s 16 yrs and was footed something nationwide. Queen and the lucky chop guys. I just tell you this because you have that same passion that he and I have and I love it when you jack that back to tear that song apart till we get every note pointed out. Please check him out . I’m telling him to listen to someone who lives music as much as he does🎤🎧🎙🎹🎸🎷🎼🎺
Just heard this first time. Loved it. One question. That high note from backing singers. Is that possibly Peter Straker? Didnt he back somr of this album?
I always believe the lyrics are Freddie..he is The Golden Boy. Yes, they had a deep respect for each other that's true. 💯... you should perhaps listen to Le Japonaise.. a lot sung in Japanese. Their whole collaboration was just beautiful. The guy with the 3 guys, the backing singers, standing to the right, is Freddie's long time friend Peter Straker, another great singer. Freddie helped produce an album for Peter, Freddie was also in awe of Peter's singing. Also, John Deacon did the bass to this song!!... In an interview with Freddie he said he loved music and (Montserrat) "she is the music". He couldn't believe she wanted to work with him. Also, Montserrat spoke highly and lovingly of Freddie, she said that one day she went to pick up a glass of champagne and he quickly stopped her because it was his, and she went to kiss him like they had always done, but that time Freddie said No, no more, and she said asked him had she upset him? Then she said he told her he couldn't anymore and why. Due to his recently found out diagnosis of HIV. She was also at the unveiling of his statue in Montreux. Unfortunately Montserrat has gone to now..hopefully they are singing together again wherever they are!. I truly believe had Freddie still been here, he would have done work for Productions and films. As well as his own and with Queen.
Great reaction. I like that you pause & listen again, that's what I used to do whenever I'd buy a new record - trying to get the whole feeling. Then I'd play it through afterwards. Anyway, your channel is to react & you do it well! Keep it up.
- by the way - - Freddie wrote the songs on the album - Mike Moran the orchestration on Barcelona - you can see him conducting. I didn't see any conductor here - but I guess that he has done it here as well.
Don’t apologize for stopping and pausing. I love you pointing out all the little vocal and instrumental nuances that you hear. Your reaction to this was superb, the more excited you got the more I enjoyed Freddie and Montserrat’s performance. Only Freddie’s brilliance would create a fusion of opera with a rock, funky, gospel, and soul song. Love seeing Montserrat’s smile and her dancing and jamming away! Yes, you also need to do How CAN I Go On by the two of them.
The great lyricist Sir Tim Rice wrote this song, this is somewhat biographical about Freddie and Mary Austin. If you read the lyrics (and I have) it very much depicts Freddie and Mary's relationship. Freddie is The Golden boy.
It does and doesn't. Mary and Freddie loved each other and you could say he loved the calmness and lotalty she btoughtto his life and she loved his passion for life. But the story of the song is that she was using him but ended up loving him had started hard hearted but ended up hurt. He loved her but changed
The smile and happiness on Freddie's face at the end is priceless!!!😍💖💖💖💖💖 This performance is amazing!!!🎶🎶🎶
eternal👍
What an explosion of talent. They are superb. I feel so much pride for Freddie as he deserves it for the risk he took. He is a genius.
The changes in tempo, the harmonies, the inventiveness. It's the Queen way. Only Freddie could come up with songs like this, and Montsy just loved it.
Yep - Montsy said that Freddie taught her how to "have fun" - and you can see it on her face!
very Aretha Franklin👍
Montserrat said in several interviews that the year it took to making the Barcelona album with Freddie was the happiest in her life.
They were true friends of the heart. They completely admired each other's talent.
Freddie music and she loves being a part. Great together ❤️

FABULOUS!💯💯
Freddie was so talented, he could sing any genre and style of music.
Outstanding performance, this shows the power of both singers and the song is simply beautiful. Thank you.

If you're still taking requests I'd love to see you react to Life Is Real (Song For Lennon) It was Freddie's tribute to John Lennon.
Heavenly song from two beautiful legends, loved your reaction ♥
Next react to these two perform “How Can I Go On”. It also will not disappoint!

Your excitement is so contagious! I love it❤️
"How can I go on ", next by Freddie and Montserrat.
You and Freddie setting there yelling- ‘Jack that Back!!’
You are absolutely killing these reactions!!
If you keep playing such brilliant performances, the guy that says "Jack it" for you will be wanting a raise!
Omg David that was an epic reaction absolutely loved it 😍
Awesome reaction!
The things we learn on this channel 👍 thank you 👏
And that sound she makes with her "Rs" is called a "Trill "
We get chills watching your reaction David! 💞
I really enjoy you!
I knew you would love this David.
IMMACULATE PERFORMANCE
Lol
Guide me Home is a good one also. They did an entire album together. It’s called Barcelona. Just in case you might want to download.
The 2 of them became very good friends. She was at the unveiling of his statue in Switzerland.
Next listen to their duet How Can I Go On…you’ll love it too!
Freddie Mercury is a God - - but Montserrat Caballé is a Goddess - - They are now in heaven both of them.
Fantastic reaction, David! Loved it! It was great fun watching your excitement. Thank you!
Your review was as heartfelt as the performance! Well done, David. I’ve been waiting for u to check out this song because I knew you would be mesmerized with the harmonies and gospel undertones. I play this song over and over because I love it so much. Thanks for this and keep those Queen videos coming! 🙋🏽♀️✌🏾👑
This great album made my " Rock Is No Music" dad a big fan of Freddie Mercury, especially when he read the composer ' s name on the cover.
Just beautiful! And an amazing reaction!
Insanely beautiful ❤️
Long live Freddie and Montsy ❤️
Beautiful song! 😍🥰
Good, keep going this way 💪👏🏼
Plase one reaction this song: Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé: La Japonaise
HaHa! I loved your reaction. You were like a kid in a candy shop. Absolutely awesome. Check out more of their stuff, you'll love it!
Best reaction video ever!!!!
Meant I heard this analysis just now for first time. Have of course heard the song many times.
Thanks -- look how much fun Montsy is having! the combo of opera & gospel is astounding! always like your reactions.. despite "back... back.. back..." lol
"The Fallen Priest" please... I know what I'm saying... You'll be amazed!
Absolutely. But make sure it’s the original 1988 mix, not the 2012 remaster.
@@DanCookMovieReviews Personally, I love them both
Great reaction David! I'm such a fan girl of u, and of course our awesome Freddie! Keep it up David, you're getting better all the time, man! Thanks for the entertainment.
Thanks Elizabeth!
I’m telling him to listen to someone who lives music as much as he does🎤🎧🎙🎹🎸🎷🎼🎺
David have you done ‘Living on my Own’?? Look thru because a It’s Freddie’s 39 th birthday party and WHAT A PARTY! Freddie is jamming- !!
Just heard this first time. Loved it. One question. That high note from backing singers. Is that possibly Peter Straker? Didnt he back somr of this album?
they are so happy together! It is a precious gift they left us! Forever grateful, they are together in heaven!!
Fantastic reaction. Loved it 👍❤️
Great baritone. Yes she wanted him to..
The female back vocalist with the high voice is Madeline Bell.
