I was 12-13 when the perfect season happened. I remember every game, and was even AT the Orange Bowl during game #5 when Griese got hurt (south side upper bleachers, was hot af that day!). I hope to see another Super Bowl win by Miami before I die, since my kids are tired of me telling perfect season stories lol

But wherever you are, whoever you are, tell everybody you know every time you can that you are a supporter of the only team in NFL history that played a whole season and won every single game.

Some idiots over the Internet are saying that the more you read about football history the more you come to know that the 72's Dolphins are not the best team in history hahahaha. In other words, just because they do not like the Miami Dolphins that does not mean you can take away a perfect season over some favoritism of a team of your choice that ended winning a super bowl losing a game or two like the Bears or Patriots because perfection is perfection period!

The team names never entered my mind when i was a kid. The tv people never individualized the players with names. That showed and taught me as a kid that a team was one big cooperative goal minded monster that scared the opponents with their perfect rhythm.
Thanks for the memories Coach Shula! A perfect season, back-to-back Super Bowl victories, and then defeating the undefeated Chicago Bears in 1985.

Shula was DC of the Detroit Lions from 1961-62. Although he never coached the Lions, he'll always be remembered as an awesome DC. RIP Don, god bless u

How in the hell does an undefeated team have to go on the road to PITTSBURGH (in December!) for the AFC Championship game in order to get to the Super Bowl in the first place? Makes the undefeated season even more impressive.

@@michaelleroy9281 Well, obviously I know that was how the NFL was back then, because I can see it myself. But it was a pretty stupid idea. Obviously the undefeated team had earned the right to a home field advantage, and it was absurd that it did not have it. Glad the NFL changed, although it still makes other stupid decisions to this day.

Larry Csonka has said that the hit he took against Minnesota (02:57) by Roy Winston was so severe he thought his back was broken and he actually crawled off the field. Once on the sideline, he "walked it off" and in a few minutes was back in the game. In today's game he would have undergone a rigorous neurologic exam/tests but the neurologic injuries on the field in the early 70's simply weren't taken as seriously as they are now

Sure many of you are wondering why the undefeated 'Phins had to play the AFC championship gm in Pitt ... the 3 divisions alternated ea. yr as to who would host playoff gms . That got scrapped in 75 when the NFL started seeding the playoff teams.

Two things: #1 This record will NEVER be broken! Never! #2 Why did Pittsburgh host the AFC Championship when Miami went 14-0? You would think a 14-0 team would have home field advantage in the AFC Championship.

Because in those days the Conference Championship Games rotated each year. A team’s record had no bearing on where the game would be played.
