Hello from Australia! The term “Hot winter” makes me laugh! If it’s 10 degrees here we call that a really cold winters day. In southern parts of Oz winter days are usually around 13 degrees and we wear coats, boots and scarves. In the north of Oz, 27 degrees celsius is winter!
I just stumbled across this video and I am happy I did. I moved to Canada 13yrs ago from the Caribbean and I can honestly say I still don’t know how to dress for winter. People always tell me to dress in layers which I interpreted as grab as many warm pieces as you can. Needless to say that I looked uncoordinated and frumpy. This was a wonderful breakdown! Thank you.
Finally...someone who understands that winter is not the same in all places! I live in a city that can get frigid, snowy, and rainy. Many times I just need to be warm and dry. Thanks for sharing these great examples!
My problem in winter is that we get lots of rain! So aside from not going out I need to add a rain coat when I do! But I absolutely love your style and outfits!
Love the different categories of winter! 😂 I see that there are a few comments about wet winters, and having lived in Scotland all my life (and having worked outdoors here in all seasons) I know a thing or two about this 😂 1) the concept of wearing thermals or base-layers next to the skin is critical in both wet and dry winters and thank you for reminding us about it Alyssa! 2) Wear water resistant shoes / boots and carry an umbrella at all times...this will enable you to look stylish when the weather is uncertain...take a cute pair of shoes with you to change into at your destination if needed! 3) Accept the reality that on days of very heavy rain, the only sensible thing to do is to wear waterproof outerwear (coat / trousers / footwear) and banish all thoughts of being stylish outdoors...and take a change of clothing (in a waterproof bag!) to your destination. As the old saying goes, "there is no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate clothing." 😃
"Winter Core." You're speaking my language! Loved the humour in this video as well as the concept. Perfect watching for a -20 snowy Sunday morning in Edmonton, AB.
@@AlyssaBeltempo I LOVE it! I'll spread the word in this part of the land. My favorite winter sound is when the snow is sold cold it squeaks and creaks when you walk. Keep up the fantastic work with your content. It's so inspiring!
You do know you will have to do this style of video for every season now? 😂 But seriously, this is one of the best weather appropriate styling videos EVER!! I always check the weather every day and there are certain temperatures where I just don't know what to wear. This is super helpful and I immediately saved it. Here in Germany we have Winter Winter 😂 but I can adapt hot and mild winter for spring and fall.
As a fellow Canadian, I shiver just looking at your open coat in most of the looks. Love them, but I must run even colder than you and need to zip those zippers!
Living in Canada gives you greater resistance to cold weather. I am Italian and I would put your winter winter in the mild winter and probably freeze nonetheless. That said I always like your idea.😘
haha thank you Silvia! It's true, as I was filming this I thought my thoughts around cold would be skewed bc we are in deep winter and anything above 0 feels downright HOT! :) Thank you for watching and glad you like the ideas! xx
Well, we Canadians feel the cold as much an anyone else. We have just learned how to manage it through careful layering. personally, I love the change of seasons which gives so much vitality to our lives. Plus you have to embrace winter sports, which are so invigorating. I would hate to live in a rainy winter climate with no bright sunshine.
Enjoy you and your content..when you list thermals in what you are wearing..I would be interested in seeing you in them and the name of them..I live in Vancouver..it can get cold here but not as cold as where you live..stay safe cheers debbie 👍😎❤️
Finally someone addresses cold. My go to is wool in layers-esp as a base layer. It is not the cold, it’s the clothes. As fashion becomes more general the warm pieces are harder to find. Scarves give 10 degrees F of warmth and hats are fun.
I think I really like winters in my southern U.S part of the country. Summer is where I struggle. Making cute outfits when wearing anything is to hot. I did like the super bundled look though and I must agree that comfort is number 1 when dressing for extreme weather.
Love this! You’re one of the few fashion style experts who seems like they’ve actually left the studio and been outside. I’d love a rundown of great lightweight thermal items to wear underneath both fall and winter outfits.
Addition of rainy winter days would be appreciated. So hard to look cute in the rain! Thanks for these tips. I love coat and jacket videos s people mostly see our outer self, especially now when grocery shopping and walking the dog are all we have.
Alyssa - absolutely loved your humour this week! How envious I am of those in the "hot winter" (aka "Spring" in South Western Ontario!!!!) and "mild winter" zones...being 6hrs South West of you we are definitely in "Winter" mode. I always used to laugh at those who said Ottawa was so cold...until I was there over Christmas one year. It's definitely at least 5C colder! And yes, there really is only 1 outfit formula in the "No Thank You" zone (absolutely LOVED the reference)....dress so bundled that you don't freeze extremities!!! Thank you again for great outfit formulas! :) Cheers,
Mild Winter formulas are great for the Pacific Northwest! Swap in waterproof boots and outer layers for Portland, OR. I moved here from Indiana, where we had mastered Winter Winter, and I have this year finally really figured out the necessary lighter layering. I own rain boots for the first time! In the Midwest it rains in summer, but out here it rains in the coldest months.
Loved this! I'm from Michigan so I totally understood the different "winters" 🥶 Those laced up tall, black boots are to die for! Thank you for these ideas! ♥️🙏
I love how you keep it real - clothes have a function and then they have aesthetic properties, not the other way around! That's especially true when it comes to winter-wear! It took me few times of freezing my butt off to realize that tho 😂 but I won't lie, since I'm planning on moving to Canada, I'm scared that the aesthetic part of the outfits will dissapear, but that's why I follow you - for inspiration and guidelines! ❤
discover Smart Wool! Wear a base layer of very thin merino wool and you can still look chic. Also love fleece-lined tights or leggings. Embrace winter! You will learn to love it. Welcome to Canada!
Thanks for defending the "Michelin Man" look! I think you can only disparage that look if you've never spent any time in significantly bone-chilling temperatures. If the weather calls for it, I am bundled up. Who wouldn't rather be warm and lucid? Lol Thanks for the video! Carolyn
I love the "incredibly accurate" names for different types of winter 😂 Even though I live in Europe with relatively mild winter in the recent years ( temperatures between - 5 and +9), i always suffered a lot of cold in my hands (I wear winter thick gloves) and feet. There are no winter boots that would be warm enough for me. So it happens that I put o thighs, a thin pair of socks and a thick pair of socks and boots. I remember winters I spent in India or Portugal... Those were the ones I could always have. Stay warm 🙂
This video was FABULOUS!!! Living in a cold climate that can change to any of your winter categories in the blink of an eye and I can never feel warm enough--- so these formulas are GREAT!
Oh Alyssa, I just loved this perfect for Canada episode. We were in the winter-Winter and now in the (hell) no thanks! Winter. I really like how well you bundled!! I am doing thermals and sweater and faux leather pants with leg warmers over boots! Just stay warm!!! Hope for Spring! Always a treat to watch your videos! 🌍🌏🌎⛸️⛸️🥅🎿Xoxo Joanne
Thank you so much- I moved to Germany 18 months ago to a mountainous region (from a mild wet Belgium and England) last winter didn't really happen but this year its very cold and snowy. I am pleased you said its OK to look like the Michelin man I just want to be warm.
Montana is where we have winter-winter and No-thank-you winter. I appreciate all your tips. You do not look like the Michelin Man AT ALL in the No-thank-you winter. You have the perfect Cold Canada look and I love it!
And Portland, OR. Mild Winter works! Swap in waterproof boots and outer layers, right? What else do you all do for Wet Winter? I’ve been here only a couple years.
Love how your outfit for "warm winter" is a t-shirt and blazer, and then there's me living in my fur-lined boots and puffer jacket all the way from september-april... another tip for wearing a nice but thinnish coat in winter is to layer a thin down-like vest underneath (like patagonia makes them), as they add warmth and wind-proof the coat without making it bulky
I love the Michelin man look ,,,layer layer layer. this way i can show off all my winter looks at once. beautiful scenery in this video . Having so much fun shopping in my own closet with you. Ciao bella.
I found this really helpful, in Germany we have mild winters, here (in the southwest, named sometimes the Tuscany of Germany 😉) are temperatures under 0 Celsius not often. Now it’s -1. I love layers and are able to show these, most of the times. For this reason I like winter, but I love spring and autumn, it’s here like in your subscription mild winter. This are so creative seasons 🤓
Living in Southern Ontario,it's been not a really cold winter maybe average +2 C to -8C but cold enough to warm my new Moose Knuckle parka!!! Love it!! It's not too puffy, fairly streamed lined, l think it pretty stylish, and very warm!!🙂🍁
love your scientific classifications especially no thank you! I am lucky to be living in a mild climate. So many dressing options! I used to live in sub tropical winter, where you add a cardy or a jacket over your t-shirt. by lunch time the cardy is off until the sun goes down! you can wear most of your wardrobe all year round.. very economical!
Her coat still looked like mustang coat with fur decoration, wasn't a normal, Canadian Goose jacket (tho there's nothing wrong in those!) in deep snow. I love it!
We are so fortunate in Canada because there are so many stylish winter coats and boots that keep us warm and we don’t have to look like the Michelin man if we don’t want that look ! ❤️☀️🇨🇦
My fav was the last look. I love that coat and the boots! I freeze easily so I wear long puffer coat in mild winter. Merino underwear travels with me everywhere (even in summer) because you never know. My recent discovery is black thermal skirt that you can wear over your winter running leggings or jeans but also looks great with thick tights and boots. These puffer skirts made way to this season runways as well, so I recommend checking them out. Your behind will thank you for it. Lots of love from Germany 🇩🇪
@@AlyssaBeltempo This is a great video, but we also get rain in our "mild" winter. All of my raincoats are thin, which would have to be the outer piece. How do you stay warm and fashionably layer under one? I would love to hear your thoughts 💕
@@trishac9516 One solution I have found is to layer a thin raincoat over a 100% wool jacket or blazer. But it can be tricky to find items that are warm enough but not too bulky when worn together.
Laughed out loud at the “ no thank you” climate zone! 😂 Living in Montreal, this is the winter reality. Surprised that you didn’t add a trench coat for the 10-18 C range. I am always cold so I almost always layer on as the temperature drops. Great video as always! Thanks for helping me start my Sunday with a smile.
I love the terms you coined to describe winter: "hot winter" and "no, thank you winter" . Here in Poland I think we fall into some sort of mild climate category, although we did experience -20 last week (only for two days though, thank God!). It was a very insightful video, thanks a lot!!
Love your breakdown of winter categories! Where I live in Colorado it’s definitely a winter winter climate and when the wind howls a huge NO THANK YOU!! 🥶
Hot, Hot Winter in my area but loved seeing the different outfits. Looking forward to traveling to real winter locations in the future. Thank you for the inspiration! 👍🏼👏🏼😊☀️
I live in “hot winter” and the only thing I would add to your outfit formula is a hat with a small brim. There is still plenty of sun and the hat keeps sun off my face and keeps a bit more heat in. I used to wear a wool fedora, but with the face mask, I found a newsboy cap enables me to communicate more easily. Plus I get many comments because it’s a touch unusual.
I love this. Winther in Denmark is normally from -5° to +7°, but on the west coast, where I live, we have a lot of wind/storm. That means, that I'am often wearing your "no thank you - winter clothes" in + 5°. 🥶
My favourite is your “No Thankyou “outfit! Love the parka! I live in Halifax and we get every category of weather you mentioned. ( All in one week sometimes)I’m having so much fun lately shopping my closet. Thanks Alyssa for these videos!
I run hot, and my biggest layering challenge is being outside in the cold, then coming into a cafe and sitting down for a bit. There's been a couple of times where I stripped my top right down to my black thermal top. (Luckily, that top doesn't look like a thermal, just a nice black long-sleeved top.) My formula for going to the mall is basically a t-shirt and a warmer jacket; i might add a scarf of whatever fabric is suitable for the weather/season. This formula works for me in Fall/Spring/Winter. The more layers you have on, the more you need to take off and store somewhere when you stay a while. I don't know if I'm just lazy or efficient, haha. I really love your suggestion of belting jackets and coats - am currently looking through my belts, gonna try it! Thank you so much for your inspirations. Have a great weekend!
Being realistic about no thank you Winter. This is really not the time to worry so much about fashion but more about keeping warm. For me once I am chilled it is very hard to get warm again and I will just pile on whatever layers keep me warmest and throw trying to look fashionable out the door.............of course wearing all those layers if you get all of them in colors that go well together helps. Now mild Winter is really the time to try to look nice, but for me the key, like you said is the thermals underneath because I do run cold.
This was so good! We have had mild winter (love), winter winter and now are in no thank you winter so far this year. I agree- no thank you winter is no joke so you have to lean into it. Long puffers are essential as are thermals and real winter boots. Although if you are just running from car to store into a home then you can get away with cuter outfits.
Did you see that the temperature guides she gave are in celsius? So "hot winter" is about 50 degrees fahrenheit. Just curious, because I didn't get that at first.
Oh my goodness this video was impressive the way you broke it down into categories! And of course as a fellow Canadian I much appreciate how relatable this content is for styling in winter! Grazie, Ciao!
I love all of outfits. I'm from Ireland so we don't get the cold winters you do but if we did I think I'd certainly be wearing the last outfit. I think it looks really cool. Thank you 🌹🌷
Excellent video as usual. All your videos are great. Good comments about dressing to be warm. My mother use to always make sure I was warm when I was young
You have the same Portmerion mug as me! I grew up near North Wales and we went to visit the village which is amazing. I am collecting all the botanic garden crockery. Another great video, you have changed my attitude to the way I now curate my wardrobe :)
Great video and I think my favorite outfit is #3 today. I seriously hate dressing for super cold temperature and I also dislike summer fashion, so Fall lightly layered looks are always my favorite!
Thank you Alyssa! The first kind of winter was for me. Hahaha! We in warmer weather feel the drop of temperature to the low fifties Fahrenheit as freezing, requiring boots, no exposed ankles, beanie, scarf and coat. This winter was very mild, I have not worn any of my coats. Bisous Alyssa!
Standing on the corner of Yonge and Bloor in a snow storm with the wind howling (-20), I didn't give one iota of thought to fashion LOL....SURVIVAL is the only thing I could think of...LOL...living north of Atlanta now is soooo mild ni comparison....I agree that Ottawa is very very cold in the deep winter but that Rideau canal is sooo kewl...Big Hugs and stay warm love...
Good God, Alyssa! Spoken like someone who lives in a truly cold winter climate... Those "Hot Winter" outfits are my "hey look, it's 18-24 degrees and sunny" outfits... Today was 19 and I'm currently slipping into fleece lined tights to wear under my dress tonight... 🤣😂🤣 (And yeah.... hello from South Australia! 😁)
I used to love Alyssa's clothes pairings when she first started some years ago and I looked forward to her new videos. But of late I find her wardrobe more average, more standard. I do believe you can dress chic but also outside of the box. And in these dull times, something out of the ordinary, yet elegant, is what I crave most.
Great realistic and practical video on a great topic rarely properly explored 👍👍👍👍 loved this, and you're totally right about the last look, it's cute and makes sense so it's a whole vibe in itself:)
Just watching this video from a while ago! We live in Canada and it does get cold! I have a core of winter coats and have lots of scarves. Tights, leggings, boots and booties and I have two pairs of light long underwear. One is from Brooks and I bought the pair almost 20 years ago for running! The elastic is still good and the fabric is hanging in there! My other pair is silk blend from Land’s End. Thanks for the hints on looks!
This was so fun. I’ve visited my sister in Edmonton,AB several times in February. I asked her the first time what to wear.... she said we all dress for warmth! I’m kind of like ‘Frozen’ cold doesn’t bother me.
Thanks for the climate breakdown! I live in south central Texas and we hover around mild winter, with the occasional winter winter or hot winter days. Most winter outfit suggestions are too warm for my needs (I’ve never needed thermals, for example).
I’m so glad I live in the south. I do not like cold and snow. I used to work outside, and thermals were a necessity. But I’m retired and moved south. And I’m ready for 90 degree days. I don’t like to wear layers where you can barely move.

Very smart. I liked how you broke it down. Learning to be stylish in winter takes practice.
I just walked the dog in very windy No Thank You weather 14 Fahrenheit not counting wind chill.
And I am jealous of the Michelin Man!
Good video
ooooh ouch! Hope you are all warmed up now! Thanks for watching! xx
This is one of the best videos ever. I just love it. Winter and fall fashion is so fun.
👍🏼👏🏼😊☀️
So glad you liked it thank you for watching Claudia!
Last outfit, I bet if you fall down you won't feel a thing😂I too bundle up when it's winter winter , my arms can barely reach to the side of me!
haha definitely! Thanks for watching Gina ! xx
Being in Canada, we are either in winter-winter or "no-thank you"! Loved the last look!
Thank you for this very interesting amazing video. ...
We experience lotsa rain and wind during our winter. ..remain blessed xxx
ah yes I forgot about rain, I'm so sorry! Will add for next time :) Thank you for watching xx
I live in a summer, hot summer, Christmas climate. I love your winter outfits for when I travel to places that are actually cold! You’re the chicest!💕
Thank you. You are FANTASTIC.
you are so kind thank you Grace! xx
Fabulous video and without a doubt one of the best dressed ladies on RUclips.
U always look "top model" stunning from head to toe.
Thanx Alyssa
you are so kind thank you!
I'm in a "no thank" you area. Show me all the super warm outfit ideas!!
Absolutely! The Winter Winter outfits are great if you are in and out! Thanks for watching so glad you approve ! xx
You are simply brilliant! The high contrast outfit #2 in hot winter was fabulous with your coloring.😊
Thank you Alyssa. Mostly hot Winter in Cape Town. Stay safe.🌻
Hot winter is basically our spring and summer here in Scandinavia- thanks for a yet again a great video 😊
Even if I am living in a "hot winter"-zone, I need a real coat and winter accessories. Just a Jeans jacket is not warm enough.
Did you see that the temperature guides she gave are in celsius? So "hot winter" is about 50 degrees fahrenheit. Just curious, because I didn't get that at first.
Wintercore!! 🥶 you are onto something here
Oh my goodness this video was impressive the way you broke it down into categories! And of course as a fellow Canadian I much appreciate how relatable this content is for styling in winter! Grazie, Ciao!
Haha so glad you approve and enjoyed it! Thanks for watching buon settimana! xx
You are absolutely gorgeous, Alyssa!
You are too kind thank you! xx
Try living in Winnipeg in the winter. -36 without a wind chill tonight. Super helpful video. Stay warm!
(And yeah.... hello from South Australia!
Being in BC 🇨🇦 we have very mild, wet winters. Lots of hooded jackets!!! Love the video!!
Alyssa, so inspirational! I liked it for sure! I'm WINTER WINTER with NO THANK YOU - and I always wear a puffer coat in December through March)
Love the looks especially the pumpkin color coat !
Great realistic and practical video on a great topic rarely properly explored 👍👍👍👍 loved this, and you're totally right about the last look, it's cute and makes sense so it's a whole vibe in itself:)
Wow thank you the way you have broken up the types of winters is really helpful. Thanks a ton love watching your vedios.
I love your names for winter weather! Ha. I get it; I grew up in Chicago.
Thanks! Finally a great winter guide with warmth in mind!
Great job with naming the outfits 😃😃 great outfits & tips, snowing in London 🇬🇧❤️xx
Really well thought out and helpful across the board . Always so creative xx
I'm so glad you found it helpful Lynn thank you for watching! xx
Winter core... I’m good with that. 😊
Many thanks for covering the different types of winter!
Lol #wintercore is a look :D As a Swede, I agree with your "winter winter" tips! Have to try that jacket under coat look.
This was so fun. I’ve visited my sister in Edmonton,AB several times in February. I asked her the first time what to wear.... she said we all dress for warmth! I’m kind of like ‘Frozen’ cold doesn’t bother me.
"Winter-core" haha, YAAAASSS! I live in Ukraine so that's basically our only option once January rolls around!
I love this video. I don't know how to dress for very cold winters. I'm from Texas but my dream is to travel to Antarctica. Make more of this. Please.
