Yet another terrific video Alyssa. I love watching you put outfits together. Your timeless style is right up my alley. If you have accumulated the right quality basics the possibilities and combinations are endless. I will be 70 years old in a few short months and, believe it or not, I have some basics and accessories that I have been wearing for decades! I was doing “consignment” shopping in the 1970s! Much of what I wore in that decade mirrors what you are wearing in this video. What goes around, comes around again. 🇨🇦🌎👍🏼

Me, too, at 62. I still love wearing things I got 40 years ago, blended with current items. If simple, timeless styles are chosen, they don’t date.
Canadians In Da House! Hi from BC! Happy Bday, Colleen! I'm 58 and have a similar story; wearing some pieces for decades! When they're good they're good! I still wear a pair of earrings I bought in the 80s when I was just starting out in my 20s. Thanks, Alyssa, for another fun and inspiring video. I loved that white structured cardi (?) with the black tshirt, wide-legged jeans and the b/w shoes. Very chic and "together". 🤩
I m a high-contrast person, and I do not like browns, tans, camel...however, I was surprised by how MUCH I liked the low-contrast outfit with the cafe-au-lait blazer, creamy tee, light wash jeans, and beige sandals. It was perfection!

I love the sling backs. I have a 3 pairs in different colours and they elevate EVERYTHING. The tiny heel makes them so wearable which is often a drawback to heels, one can’t walk!
It's funny, I never think of myself as having go to formulas until I realised I was sitting watching this wearing jeans, a tank and a button up shirt! My shirt was tied at the waist, but I had to go look and see what it might look like if I wrapped it, and yep, it looked great. Thanks for giving me another option Alyssa for a shirt I've had for ages. Great video as always!
I absolutely love that camel coloured cardigan. It makes every outfit it’s in my favourite. The color and shape is perfect on you. Also, the all black base outfits just look so perfect and simple to me just as they are with some lovely jewelry.
I always love these formulas. They make it easy to see how I can recreate them in my own closet!
I’d love a video about maybe the psychological element of dressing in new styles or being a bit more experimental in your style. i.e. When you try a new outfit/style/combo how do you tell when something honestly doesn’t flatter you, vs. maybe you’re just out of your comfort zone a bit or you’re not used to seeing that silhouette on yourself (example: if you always wear skinny jeans and you suddenly try on a more relaxed or wide leg style, how would you determine if that jean is not flattering to you, vs if it’s just out of your comfort zone a bit but actually looks good). Hope that all made sense!

Just as a note, I have come to realize (or believe) some outfits are just "too" chic, or structured, or loud for some places. I live in a very casual town and I would feel like everyone is staring at me or I'm wearing a costume because everyone around me is wearing jeans and a sweatshirt... I just can't get over it; even though I know i should wear what i feel good in, or maybe others see me and think "i wish i could wear that", my personal or cultural/learned "rules" from my parents or peers (I'm 58) - I still feel too uncomfortable, as it feels inappropriate. I usually dress "up" if I'm in a big city, a fashion event, or in Europe.
I really enjoy this, showing us alternatives with the same clothing. Thank you!

Loved the shorts outfits but at 5'1" and 66 years old, my thighs are never going to see the light of day again! Would love to see more capris! Really liked the way you wrapped the white shirt. I loved the camel blazer with the black top and shorts (though it would be black slacks or skirt for me). I kept waiting to see the white/ black trimmed cardigan + black tee + black pants. I also thought the same white cardigan and one of the black tops might work well with the b&w print skirt. Totally expected? Yes. But surely totally effective as well. Good episode, Alyssa. Thanks.

Sweaters around the neck are really great transitional pieces and so warm around your neck!! It works with all bottoms and dresses too!! This spring I have used my black and green cotton sweaters numerous times!

Love your style Alyssa! However, for me, when it’s warm enough to wear shorts, it’s to hot to wear a sweater and a blazer or a jacket - I’d be boiling. And if it’s not so warm to feel comfortable in a sweater and a jacket, then it’s too cold for my legs to wear shorts. Somehow like that

I've been 13 years building my wardrobe back up again starting from nothing. (It's a long sob story) It's been that long basically cos I started from being on Unemployment to now, having 3 businesses! And just 6 years ago I decided to do the Classic basics type of clothing. And it's been an exciting journey back to how my Mom used to dress, Classic Chic. Mostly Neutrals with some Pops of bright colors maybe in like the scarf, the shoes and or the handbag!😎

I never thought black and brown were interesting, and crew necks were not at all my thing....until now. I've been doing this look a lot lately, and I love it! I'm still on the hunt for a tan/camel/brown? blazer, and will likely hit up Goodwill in the men's section for one.

One question re: the outfits - though I love the look of the shorts + sweater + blazer: aren't your legs getting really cold in that? I would like to showcase my legs, but when I can wear two long-sleeve layers without sweating, it is definitely too cold for me to wear shorts. Would nude hosiery ruin the look? Thank you, as always, for all the inspiration!
aw yes, I had to take a short break! Yes - this is a great q, I had someone else ask as well. This is definitely a combo for transitional seasons and can only be worn on those days where a blazer might not always be needed if that makes sense. The core of the look is simply the sweater + shorts. I would go with a darker pair of tights instead of nude! I hope this helps! xx

Love these outfits! I'm going to try wearing shorts with long sleeved sweater for spring. I used to love doing that when I was younger, but no reason I can't do it now, right?
I just can't get used to a clunky athletic shoe with dressier outfits. To do my own thing with that look, how about wearing a lighter looking, more feminine sneaker, something like Vans?

I liked your advise, usually I wear most if the time, shorts Since a student, and starting profesional practices @ summer, and still have those polish, office style bermuda shorts. By any way, I has stylish dresses except My weding day. And love your styling advise of wear scarves along with our hair and ourses to add a pop of color in your garments 👍 .
