Totally agree with being patient! I’ve waited for sales to make heritage clothing more affordable for me. There are times where I miss out on stuff but by and large by waiting until I find stuff on ebay or for Black Friday or other sales I’ve saved hundreds of dollars.
Hearing myself yelling at ...myself was a trip! The Franks Patriot is fantastic, and the people over there are great too. Thanks for the shoutout man!!
White's Perry Select moc toe fixed the problem with their $300 version, upgraded leather and construction for $100 more. Rose Anvil did a video about it recently. They also run a sale around Black Friday and Fathers Day.
I agree. I got a pair last year for Black Friday sub $300 and it was a great value and they’re great boots. I wear them four seasons and have gotten a lot of wear in them. The welt stitch is uneven in stitch density but as these are purely casual/light work. They’re great for me. I appreciate the width options too.
Another plus for red wing is that if you’re new to boots, their in store fitting experience is pretty solid. I took my roommate to the location in Culver City and they scanned his feet and everything before he picked out a pair of iron rangers. This is his first pair of boots and he loves them. I’m a Grant Stone man myself, but there’s more room for error in the fitting process since there aren’t any physical retail locations.
I have heard good things about the Red Wings stores, but I didn't have nearly that experience. I went in and asked about sizing and everything when I was looking for a pair of Iron Rangers, and the staff really seemed to just be phoning it in. Seemed annoyed to be getting asked by a customer to try on boots. Then when I finally found what I liked, they took the boots back to get a new box (the ones they were in was beat up bad), and when I got my boots home I had 2 different sized boots in the retreat I didn't notice until I had worn them for a few days (dumb of me, I know, but really how could I have expected this). Tried to take them back amd exchange them, but staff said they were too worn now and won't accept a return. Contacted Red Wing CS online and they got me swapped out in a couple days.
@@tacline2 Agreed; last time I bought a pair of Worx from them and after a year I somehow managed to destroy the inside of the boot. Went back to the store and discovered that they were way too wide so my foot was moving around too much. Either they just pulled the wrong size or they just didn't care.
Grant Stone is excellent. I have many and I wore the natty CXL longwing today. Carmina, absolutely. I have probably 10 pairs and the 80184 jump boot is a standout. I liked the RTW brown grained leather version so much that I ordered a MTO pair with #8 CXL and commando soles. They are gorgeous and I wear them hard.
Drew's was the other brand Carl recommended. Perfectly decent quality ( as long as you have high volume feet). I'm sorry, I was itching to say it !! Great video. Cheers
Yep, I was thinking of that boot as well, I actually brought a pair. Nailed the sizing after calling them. Boy are they heavy duty work boots for a little finish carpenter like me. Can't wait to start wearing them this winter. Quality wise, the stitching is good, leather good, they feel like tanks on your feet. I did notice that the rough out fibers on one of the boots was a little looser than the other boot. But all and all a solid purchase...these boots will out live me.
Grant Stone is a very very good quality boot..I own Kudu Brass Burgundy Boot, Sadde Tan Diesel Boot, Dune Chromexcel Brass Boot and Crimson Cromexcel Ottawa…all outstanding products for the price
I went to Parkhurst Brand because I couldn’t bring myself to buy Alden after seeing essentially every review showing the heel separating from the midsole and the reviewers offering opinions about why Alden uses composite lower quality components and I haven’t looked back.
I also went to Parkhurst because I wanted an Indy boot made with real leather, mock toe style, and a lug sole...their Niagara boot foot the bill It is one of my top three boots out of 16 boots.
Great video! I’m trying to decide between a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers, GS Diesels or some Parkhurst! My problem is that I live in MN and have access to RW HQ’s basement which is full of factory seconds… so hard to pass that up. Also a brannock 13 which is hard to size at GS!
The 1950s called, they want their cuffed jeans back. Or ask that you at least pair them with a white t shirt with cigarettes rolled up. And a black leather coat.
Grant Stone punches way, way above its weight. The quality and materials are outstanding. The lasts are comfortable. Leather choices are wide. Majority of my collection is GS and they are all truly exceptional boots at the price. Great customer service as well.
GS is top notch in terms of product and customer support. Regrettably, having a pair of canoe oar, Brannock size 13.5 E high volume feet, they just don't have much of anything that will fit me. Have tried their roomiest last in the largest size they offer (Size 13 E Brass Boot), and it's just a tad too small. That was 6 months ago, and I'm still waiting for them to replenish that boot in a EEE to try out. If you're not me, Grant Stone makes some great boots that are impeccably finished... 👍
Grant Stone always has a nice sale and I got my Brass Boots for around $270 (instead of $395) they’re amazing and the finishing was miles better than my out of the store iron rangers (I love those too) I have 4 Thursday boots (all different styles) and they’re basically boot sneakers but a fair value that has seconds for sale as well. Thursday has a nice selection of models made w Horween (MITUSA) and feel much more solid than the other 3 pairs I own.
One thing I would add on top of the patient's idea is not going for pairs that you know won't fit you, even if it's a half size off. Like, read up on sizing. Nick's has a printable brannock device too.
I picked up a pair of Clarks Desert boots recently for $60 and I also have a pair of iron Rangers with cork sole for $100. There are deals out there on the hardly used market.
Thanks for the video. You also reminded me of a few things. Frank's is definitely a great boot! I have seen their Patriot in person but I don't own it. It seems rock solid. I own their 77 last, it's something the owner Frank himself built from scratch. Really nothing else like it I've found anywhere else for fit and feel. It's odd that no one really talks that particular last up when it truly sets Frank's apart. They also do an amazing Lace to toe from people here local. The roofers and construction guys seem to love them! But I like the fact Frank and his Wife were born and raised in the area as locals to me. I have yet to step into the lace to toe. But from a bespoke perspective I have had LTT recommended to me from Frank, Ron Rider, and Willie from the Philippines. I suppose I need to bite next year.
So many buy boots in incorrect sizes that there are often good deals to be had in second hand boots. Because I trash some of my boots as dog walking boots that I use walking through forest and moorland, I typically look for second hand good quality goodyearwelted boots rather than cheap boots.
Amazing video like always I just have one question about pre owned boots How do you solve them molded leather midsole As leather conforms to the wearers foot how does the new owner get around that would they just wear it until it conforms to their foot and would it hurt Thier feet while they wait would they need to get a relast
In most cases, guys sell their boots before they fully conform so it shouldn't be an issue. Also, if you have similar or same sized feet, the imprint should be fairly similar. However, you could change the insole.
Redwing has no QC and keeping inventory is a problem. Read their reviews. They are going down hill. I have 3 pairs of Grant Stone. Love them. They offer B stock at a great price.
@almostvintagestyle I ordered the coyote roughout and my half down size , had to return it ,it was way to snug a bit tight, needed to be a bit wider , so didn't like the Las that's use on that one.
Yeah if you're a size 12 or larger it's extremely difficult. I'm a 10.5 which means I'm usually on the upper end of their offerings, but they do make my size.
@@almostvintagestyle no need for "sorry". This brand seems to keep showing up in my ig & they look rather interesting & the price is really affordable but, there is almost no info on these things. Im pretty hesitant to pull the trigger. The online pictures make them seem very intriguing though.
Hi Jake. Very informative video, as usual. I have had a pair of White's Perry moc toes (the standard ones, not the Select ones) for about two years now and they're holding up great. The leather patina is awesome. Construction is solid. No issues. You're right that the construction is not like proper PNW logger or fire boots - it's similar to Red Wing with GYW and cork filling. Unlike Red Wing moc toes, though, the Perry has a steel shank, which I appreciate. I also have a pair of Frank's Front Range boots and heartily recommend Frank. I got them for $100 off during one of his periodic sales. I tell you what, though. The Front Ranges ARE real PNW boots and they are some heavy duty son-of-a-guns. Might be too much boot for only casual wear. But the arch support is fantastic. Last thing I'll mention for the bargain hunters out there is to watch out for Rancourt's seasonal pre-order sales. They often put their boots on preorder at well under $300, an outstanding price for MiUSA boots. I don't own their boots, but am very happy with my Rancourt camp mocs. Cheer!
Lots of great info! Thanks! I didn't know Rancourt had such great sales. Those Frank's also sound fantastic. My favorite aspect of PNW boots is their arch support

I think Beckett-Simonon represents excellent value. I own several pairs of their shoes and get many compliments.
I have a pair of their Dowler's; if he doesn't like the styles or the synthetic materials, that's fine but I'm done with Red Wing.
Glad to hear that. I had a pair that wasn't very nice, but I've seen better ones from them.
Sir, your hat is pure fire! Please can you let me know what style/make it is? Thanks.
Thanks! It's a custom hat from Cody Wellema of Wellema Hat Co in California. I highly recommend him!
I love my Parkhursts, and my grant stones. Not aure if i will ever venture out to boots in a higher price point
