- The WRX lives to see another day! This was a long process, but I managed to do it all from the garage over the course of a few weeks. Thanks to those who provided me with the necessary information, you've helped more than you know!

Good good. My car has been on stands since Oct. 2021. Still building her.
Fun cars to drive. Just gotta get it real hot first
Boy, that turbo looks fresh and pretty. Take a picture. Yer car is spotless! I've got a modded '16 wrx,
It’s pretty dirty but the camera does it justice 😂. Thanks man!
I'll be installing a new TMIC, 3-port BCS, cast turbo inlet, boost pipe and turbo blanket (all Cobb) this weekend (or longer). I noticed you had most if not all replacement gaskets on hand; manifold to turbo, manifold to head gasket, turbo to j-pipe. I've ordered a set from Grimmspeed, and also ordered a turbocharger gasket (15196AA110) for the oil tank connection, intermediate pipe gasket (44022AA123) and another I'm not sure if I'll need (44011AG001), but for $13.57 figured why not? So over $100 for gaskets, but agree with your decision to do all this work right the first time. It's the stock exhaust, otherwise, I could have gone with the full Grimmspeed gasket kit, but would still have needed the turbo gasket and donut in addition. Prolly going to need to delay install for another week or two waiting on gaskets to arrive.
Yeah, it’s always a good idea to replace the gaskets along with the copper washers since they’re technically shot once you’ve released the tension on them. Good luck on the installs, I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun! 🙌
I cant imagine how you fit that turbo blanket under the stock rigid heat shield...I had to leave out the lower half attached to the turbo oil sump, otherwise the sump wouldn't fit back on the turbo.
It was a PAIN to get on and I even thought about scrapping it cause it wouldn’t fit. I took my time and eventually got it on there.
Sweeeet! Happy for ya man. I'm glad to see it back on the road!
Thanks, Cody!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO ITS ALIVE!! I just did radiator, cylinder 4 mod, AOS on the STI..man let me tell you I was feeling same way starting car and burping system with coolant..I was checking for leaks all over for 30mins and after test driving..AOS was something ive never done and man what a accomplishment on my end! Nice to see we all start somewhere with mods and get great results at the finish line! Keep it up man!💥
That’s what’s up man! Nice to hear you’re doing mods to keep the car healthy. Working on cars and seeing fluid come out is always nerve wracking 😂
Yeaaahhh buddy! Congrats! I'm sitting here with my girl opened up and it started to ❄️! Yay!
I love how the headlight move when you crank the engine.
Hell yeah brotha!!!
So stoked man!! 🔥
Turbo looks great! That’s a quick turn around even if it’s not holiday season. Strong work, glad things are looking up. What a journey!
Thanks man!
hella hype
🙌🙌
🤝Glad to hear it's back on and functioning! Fingers crossed for the next couple hundred miles
You got something showing ALL mods down to the car? would love some ideas for a 2017 wrx
Sure thing! Here’s one I did a while back! ruclips.net/video/F71yQdIO9lM/видео.html
Here’s an even older one!: ruclips.net/video/W8jmH8c21ek/видео.html
Cheers!
@@ronfromportland thanks a ton man, your build is SICK! I love the engine bay most of all
@@dokii5850 thanks man!
Man it is great to see you back in the seat driving my dude! Thank you for the shout out as well homie I’m happy to help any way I can!
Thank you, man. I missed driving it. You’ve been a huge help 🙏
@@ronfromportland I don’t know about that you did all t work big dawg I’m proud of you! I had no doubts that you would knock it outta the park!
Glad to see your up and going. I know a lot of work was put into the rebuild and that's awesome you were able to do it all yourself. I'm ready to see some update vids.
Thanks man! I’m thankful I learned a little bit about the process. Now I’ll know how to do it if it happens again.
Congrats on getting that Beauty running again, glad it worked out for you. Stay safe..
Thank you, man!
Heck yeah man! Hope all goes well with the new turbo!
🙏 🙏
Glad it's all good to go! 🔥
Yessir! 🔥
Bro shout out to your channel and your content. Anxiety with you too in first start up. Keep up the good work. Much respect…keep representing the Pinoy community!!!
Thanks bro!!! 🇵🇭
By any chance were you able to find some torque specs for the bottom bolts on the oil sump? I’m in the middle of doing mine.
I had a hard time looking for these specs so I just “snugged” then down. Basically tightened them until they stopped turning, then gave them another 1/8”. Good luck with the replacement!
Ok thank 🙏
Hey Great update and the video is fire!! as a personal opinion be very careful with the wrap on the J-Pipe as in some cases it has been the cause for Subie engines to catch on fire as well as destroying the pipe over time. There are other means to shield the pipe that can prevent both scenarios, personally that's what I will be doing this coming spring time.
Thanks man! Yeah, it usually becomes dangerous if you’re not careful about spilling oil on the wrap. No issues for me though!
I'm actually trying to decide between the obw and the WRX. I need something that's good in snow but fun to drive. The WRX seems ideal, but I keep coming back to the Outback Wilderness. I've always had hatchbacks and the outback seems so practical. If you could only have one which one would it be? Is the outback fun to drive in its own way? Wish it had a manual transmission.
Honestly, at this point in my life, the Outback wins. You never have to worry about potholes or anything. Not to mention it’s comfortable. Again, I’m in my 30s so comfort is becoming higher on the priority list 😂. BUT, this is coming from someone whose had a modified WRX which I’m fortunate enough to be able to experience. The Outback Wilderness is a lot of fun. It’s quick too but, overall, I enjoy the durability of it. I hope this helps 🙏
@@ronfromportland It does help. Thanks for getting back to me so soon.
Hey l have a 2018 WRX Premium auto what max power can I get out of auto model?
Best reach out to a tuner to get a general idea of numbers for CVT. CVTs can’t handle as much torque as a 6 speed. I just don’t know enough to be able to give you some numbers!
Congrats with bringing the subie back to life! Happy to see it back! Good job on the install too, that is no small feat haha. Also, if you were able to retune your car would you have gone with one of their upgraded versions? I’ve been looking at them for whenever I’m ready to add more power
Thanks man! Definitely! Like I mentioned, I was ready to buy a Boost Lab Turbo + Grimmspeed headers but it was the whole tuning and potential new jpipe I needed to buy that made me change my mind.
Gonna do this same exact thing. How’s it holding up
It was holding up just fine. I sold it back in February.
You having the same issues?
Yeah I’m pretty much the same mod lvl, but with the green speed initiative retuning and putting egr/tgvs back on is annoying as helll. So my best option looks like a rebuilt turbo.
@@ronfromportland how’d selling the car go? I’m in Cali so it might be harder for me if I go that route
@@adriansphere I had all my stock parts so I put everything back (TGV, EGR, J-pipe). It was completely stock when I sold it and had no issues.
What did they charge for the re-build of the turbo
Less than $400
