- Jumped on the bandwagon and installed the Power Acoustik CP-71W head unit on my 2006 Honda S2000! This video is NOT a step-by-step tutorial on HOW TO wire. This video is about the overall process I went through to be able to install this unit. I wanted mainly to address the wiring since a lot of folks had questions about it. Note that the dash buttons are non-functional as of this moment. I’m waiting for Modifry to release the premade harnesses to be able to incorporate their DCI.

Glad you’re back at it with posting
Thanks for this! Another Portland S2K rocking the Power Acoustik. I was able to retain (gain) dash controls with the Metra ASWC-1. Very easy install. Replaced an old Kenwood deck with no dash controls.
Heck yeah, that’s what’s up man! Every time I see an S2k on the road I’m never in mine 😂
I just purchased it today thank you for this video !
where did you get it from? walmart keeps cancelling my order
I just went to Walmart and it was there
I purchased one from Walmart at 3 am, it arrived at my house at 930 am and by noon I had it installed. This thing is awesome I was skeptical about the quality but this thing is amazing for the price! Definitely recommend purchasing . I have it installed on a 68 mustang so not much wiring for me need to be done lol
Yup, you can’t beat it for the price!
What did you do with the orange illumination wire? I'm installing on a 1990 gmc truck, no orange wire.
@@wallywatkins6745I tapped into my ground cable
@@wallywatkins6745the orange wire I spliced. The orange/white wire I left out. Check @5:04. I hope this helps
Man those solder connectors are the truth man and they keep the wires from being too bulky! I have one of those kits too. Nice fitment on the radio man! I do like the fact the radio is hidden!
Yeah dude! I’m glad I bought a bunch cause they’ll come in clutch one of these days. Thanks man!
Amazing video very helpful. Please keep us posted on DCI connectivity if you were able to get the dash controls.
Thank you! Will do!
@@ronfromportland just bought the headunit, had to go to different walmarts to find it. Couldnt find the harness but end up ordering it online from Walmart. should have in a couple of days. Hopefully I will be able to install it based on your very helpful video. Now just have to wait for your next video on how DCI works and if you had a heard from Modifry if the Kenwood DCI would work with Power Acoustic HU?
Another awesome video. I was always wondering how to get CarPlay on a s2000 since you can only really fit a single din.
Thank you sir!
Would the wiring harness work for all year s2000s? I have a 2007 and want to make sure it works
The wiring harness, according to the box, is for 00-09 models so it should work.
Side note, I should feel honored you commented on my video 😩💪
@@ronfromportland Haha not at all! I'm thinking of getting this radio installed in my s2000 too so just wanted to make sure. Great video!
Hi I’m about to preorder a modifry plug n play harness, and I also was reading through their website that the DCI adapter harness will also be needed to go with it? Is that correct, meaning that I’ll have to get 2 harnesses from them? Just wanting to make sure! Thanks
If I remember correctly, you only need the plug n play harness + the DCI unit since the harness should have a separate wire to plug the DCI into. I’d double check that though!
I got the amozon garness and i like ut better because is less bulky, i cut all the plastic connectos and used the one in this video.
Glad it worked out. I might save mine as a back up.
I’m eager to try this on my Ek hatch but I yet to see someone post a video trying it out.
How is the sound quality on it? Any updates on reviewing it?
Would the stereo dim with the orange/white wired with orange upon headlights on?
Not sure on the Orange/ white wire. The head unit does dim with the headlight on when connected orange wire to orange wire though.
Thanks for the vid man. This helps a ton. Im getting the head unit tomorrow. Also emails modrify because when i tried preordering the harness it says: Variant can only be purchased with a selling plan. Also, from what you said, will the kenwood dci work on the power acustik?
Thanks again for the vid
I just checked the Modifry link and can confirm what you’re saying. I’m thinking the pre-order stock ran out but I was able to order one successfully.
Regarding the DCI, I’ve read from multiple folks on FB that the Kenwood version should work with the PA unit but I can’t fully confirm comfortably until I try it out on my own setup. Too many factors at this point but I’ll do my best to update everyone whenever the harness gets delivered!
@@ronfromportland thanks for the help. I emailed them about the dci and that issue with the harness. Hopefully i can get one
@@ronfromportland thanks. i was able to order the wire harness after checking for a couple of days. By any chance, have you heard from them what DCI should be used? I have emailed them several times with no response.
@@hellraisingvtec Nope, I haven’t heard anything regarding the DCI yet. I’m seeing all sorts of answers on the forums and everyone seems to say that the Kenwood dci “should work”. I suggest waiting for the official verdict before buying.
@@ronfromportland thanks
Where did you route the gps antenna that it came with?
I didn’t end up using the gps piece, I just left it out.
How does the size of this compare to a standard single din ?
I only have a Kenwood single din to compare against and this unit fills out the opening pretty well.
Do you know if that wiring harness would fit an NA miata?
If you’re referring to the Scosche, it won’t since it’s specific to Honda/Acura. I’m sure you’ll be able to find one for Mazda though.
@@ronfromportland appreciate it!
I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla but every radio I have gotten ( single din touchscreen) none of the holes line up or work for the factory bracket how did yours line up in this one I want to see the side of the unit with out the case to see
Check out @10:27. This is how it looks without the case since I didn’t use it. There’s a good visual of the side. Only one screw is needed but I used two.
@@ronfromportland thanks bro I’m new to this radio install but I want to it myself but it seems like I’m going to have to mod the fit on my car to make it work even for the screen to fit my old car stock bezel
@@lejend69 yeah for sure. I have a 2013 Corolla and I’m not sure if this headunit will work without a custom bezel. Let me know what you find out!
@@ronfromportland ok bro I think there might have to be some shaving 🪒 of plastic to open the mouth of the frame to fit it right lol
Can this connect to a backup camera?
Yes, I’ve read about a few folks successfully installing a back up camera to this unit.
Can you cudtomize background/wallpaper with your own images?
I didn’t see any options for this so I’m going to say nope
@@ronfromportlandthe new update adds android auto and also custom wallpapers & startup screen logo
@@HouseRLS good to know man! Thank you 🙏
@@HouseRLS by “update” do you mean a firmware or new hardware model? Asking to make sure the one I order supports custom wallpapers. Thanks!!
How long is the start up
Pretty fast. It’s usually connected to CarPlay by the time I get settled in my seat.
Can someone please try what happens when you plug in an Android? Could I use Android Auto if I plugged a AI box into the head unit and connected with my phone to the AI box?
I asked Power Acoustik tech support. This unit does not support Android Auto at all.
well that sucks. I have an android and hoped this would have worked for my 06 AP2.... great video and super helpful. you are the master.
@@newtonwilliams3778 There is an update now that adds support with Android Auto on this unit
@@newtonwilliams3778 there is mention of an update to support AA but I haven't seen the videos yet.
is there an android auto equivalent?
Not that I’m aware of unfortunately
@@ronfromportland Supposedly it does support Android Auto, but it's wired only. If possible, can you borrow an android phone and plug it in? That'd be a great update!
@@ShadowPanzerX I asked Power Acoustik tech support. This unit does not support Android Auto at all.
I asked Power Acoustik tech support. This unit does not support Android Auto at all. They did not mention an AA modeling coming out.
@@JBSaul thank you for confirming!!
Este producto es malísimo no lo recomiendo ya lo compré y muchos problemas con la conexión del Apple CarPlay 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Just got mine today, your video giving me confidence on this wiring stuff rn🫡
Thanks dude. No joke, the hardest part was removing the trim! The wiring is easy once you get the hang of it
I definitely spent the last 12mins crossing my fingers that i didnt break the door🤦🏾♂️ but im safe👌🏾
But im wanting to switch this harness out for another because the dash controls would be super convenient
@@dr0wzy_ for sure. I will be switching mine out when modify releases their premade harnesses.
@@ronfromportland I just ordered the head unit too! Also emailed the Modifry shop since there's a presale option on the website but it's not working correctly!
