  • It's a great day for my CrossFire! Got my Z axis up and running! And my XL Kit Installed!
    Here is the link to the original video by Tool Junkie. He's the one that perfected this method of putting a Z axis on the CrossFire.

    The video is in 4K, but RUclips processes it for awhile and it's only on 360p during that time.

    What was the need you had that the z axis solved?

      The biggest reason was control over the pierce height. Consumables last much longer if you pierce at the specified pierce height because there is space for the molten metal to escape. I predominantly cut 3/8" and thicker plate, so it makes a noticeable difference. My pierce height is .150", and my cut height is .06". On thinner plate like 1/8", The pierce time is so short on an 85 amp plasma that it hardly makes a difference. The other big reason for a Z axis, is that between each cut the torch will retract so that it doesn't snag tip-ups etc., thereby avoiding an annoying torch crash...

    why do you need the second power syplay and what setting did you use on the z axis motor controller (position of micro switches )

      The second power supply was to provide 24 volt DC for control power for the probes. As far as the position of the dip switches on the stepper driver, it's been too long ago and I don't have that machine in the shop anymore so I don't know with certainty, but if my memory serves me correctly I don't remember messing with them...

    Looks great! I have that exact same pendant and followed the configuration to the T and I can’t get it to do anything in Mach3! Any ideas

      There are a lot of hoops to jump through to make it work right. Mine never worked in a USB 3.0 port. It had to be in a 2.0 port. And getting the drivers to install was a treat...

      Joshua Zimmerman you are absolutely correct. I ended up making it work but it did end up being an issue with the usb plugin. I had to use a 2,0 and it started working with no problems at all. I much appreciate the help. This pendant is great in general but especially if you are using a Z a-did. Money well spent. Now, I just need to finish setting up the probe and limit switches👍

      Got one more question for you...so I have my z axis all setup and moves fine but I’m having problems with post processing. I can’t seem to get the cut height set and I have no probe or limit switches currently installed. How would I go about my post processing to set the cut height? Thanks in advance!

    hello how did you get the red board to work with fire control ?

    • @joshuazimmerman8631
      @joshuazimmerman8631  3 года назад

      The red board only works with Mach 3. I believe that Langmuir Systems uses their own circuit board for Fire Control...

    I dont see the probe sensor like Tool Junkie so how your THC work ?

    • @joshuazimmerman8631
      @joshuazimmerman8631  3 года назад

      This was just my z-axis. I hadn't installed THC at this point. ruclips.net/video/6T-k9h-mMJY/видео.html
      Here is the video where you can see the sensors. But even in that video you can see I don't have THC. All the sensors are doing for me is getting an accurate pierce height for every new cut.

    Hi, I also copied the tool junkie. I was thinking about the XL, but spent to $. What gcode software are you using? I like your videos keep them coming.

      I use Fusion 360 for all drawing and modeling and also for g-code generation. It's fast and really checks all the boxes for me...
