Such a response from such a person! I appreciate it. And yes, I hate to say I seem biased, but the Integra was built so perfect, thought out so perfect, it puts shame to the modern cars. Just bought a 97 GSR Coupe for 3 grand a couple months ago. It needs a ton of maintenance work, and I do plan on modifying it a bit (nothing crazy just replacing old parts with some slightly better after-market pieces rather than going full OEM), but despite that the car is amazing! I work at a Porsche dealership and regularly drive 200k cars, and it always amazes me how I get into my Acura and the shifter feels better than the Porsches!
I truly respect and appreciate the owners take on things when it comes to a gem of a car like this. Somewhat ironically, the clean unmolested examples like this one end up being the cars that truly stand out from the crowd as there are almost none left after the passing of just a couple of decades.
I purchased a 94 Integra GS-R when they first came out. The 5 spoke Alloy wheels (Not shown here) were great looking and the 8100 redline was a joy to explore. 170 hp and 128 ft-lbs was not a lot , but the car was only 2600~ lbs. It had a better power to weight than the Mustang GT at the time (GT only had 215 hp) and hung with the turbo eclipses and talons. The clutch and shift linkage was top notch - one of the best of it's time and was a good performance car for the money. I have since moved on to WRX STi and Supra Turbo, but that car was my first sporty/performance car and I wish I didn't sell it.
I own a red 1994 Integra GSR. I bought it new in May 1994 and I've kept it stock. It has 88,300 kilometres on it. It has never seen winters (snow/road salt) as I store it every fall. I keep it in the garage most of the time to avoid excessive fading and theft. Not planning to ever sell it. My son has his eye on it though... lol
GS-Rs are definitely special cars. Although it ain't a Type-R(tight car), I had an absolute blast driving mine and am not sure if I'll ever find a car that I'll love driving as much as the GS-R (Sedan). RIP Teggy.
I absolutely loved my 94 Integra RS. It didn't have the v-tec, but it was plenty quick enough. I bought it with some mods, Z3 fenders and a dual exhaust, but otherwise stock and it was the most fun I've ever had. I am a Honda fanboy though, so take it as you will. My current ride is a 7th Gen Civic and, while it's still classic 5-speed Honda fun, it really needs some proper tires and an exhaust to fully enjoy.
This car was the love of my life. 9 years ownership (550,000km) before someone hit it when I was parked on the street. I still have the jdm integra badge that was from the Japanese rsx.
I had one of these last year before I picked up my 2015 STI. You're making me miss that car with this review! Like you guys said, it's not fast but it maintains its momentum so well. And the light weight makes my STI feel like a pig in comparison. I definitely checked off the hot hatch box with it. One of those "must have" cars, or at least a "must drive".
Being a recent owner of a 2000 Integra GS-R (DC2) and a current owner of an Acura RSX S (DC5) I will say that they are both excellent cars. They both have their pro's and con's, and excel at many things. I truly have enjoyed owning them and will continue to do so as long as possible. As time goes on, I hope that neither will be forgotten. ...Personally, I enjoy the DC5 RSX more for daily driving. It offers a little bit more of a smoother ride with a much much more modern feel to it (in comparison with the DC2) but like others have said, the integra's really do have such a nostalgic draw to them.
pretty sure the f250 super duty is the most stolen vehicle. the cartel steals them from construction sites. i don't even lock the doors on my GS-R. its nearly identical to this one
This was my first car....I still think about it probably once a month, I had the rare 4 door model, I dunno if its because it was my first car but out of all the cars I've owned, its still one of my all time favorites, wish I could drive one again.
Nice review of the GS-R and thats why I have kept and just love my original owner '97 GS-R all stock except coilovers. Yes, odd that the wheels don't look stock. And yes, its missing the vtec sticker on the back, which was probably stolen like mine and I replaced with a new one. Love this car, don't ever want to sell it, a true classic in the class of NSX (also owned) and S2000 (not owned, yet).
I love my ‘95 GS-R. Hands down the best car I ever owned. She’s got 240k miles and still runs and drives like the day I bought her from the Acura dealership brand new.
Nice review. I love how the owner kept it healthy and stock, not easy to find those nowadays. The integra gsr is definitely my favorite platform Honda has ever made for its age and price. Cheap, reliable, and fun.
The only thing this car needs in the fender dent fix and the proper original gs-r blades. The hubcaps does give it that sleep look which I'm sure thats the owner goal
the b18c engine is pure Japanese aggression best engine that came from Honda next to the s2000; the sedan version is the better handling car with the stiffened chassis still name best handling car
+jench78 Same with the eighth gen Civic Si's. I figure that's why Honda made the JDM FD2-R as a sedan and not as a coupe. It was the last of the NA Type R's, though :(
I've owned both for years. It's hard to notice a difference between them, but it's there. The 4-door is more rigid feeling in the back around bumpy turns, but it doesn't transition quite as fast. But because it has slightly better weight distribution, there's a little less understeer near the limit, especially with a bigger swaybar.
An 8th gen civic si is a nice modern version of this car in my mind ..the Rsx I know is the true replacement but I like the 8th gen civic look and interior more
That was the dream car so many years ago for young men wanting to howl down the road with intake noise announcing their presence to all annoyed around!
I had a GSR, blew it up twice in the 3 months I owned it. And I didn't thrash it, I wound it out and drove it like it should've been driven, so I probably wont own one again, Honda single cams are the way to go for true bullet proofness. And they can be built and made fast despite what some might say, I have even seen d15b7's with itb's lol.
At the rear it should say V Tech in a silver badge unless removed on that car and not sure when the type R stopped but the Type R was the best Integra. I could br wrong havent seen them for a while
+vard mike Type-R's are in a different price range than GS-R's. GS-R's are the top of normal Integra's but Type-R's are racing homologations, limited production racing cars.
+vard mike VTEC is Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control. V Tech is an electronics company that makes phones and kids' toys. And yeah... I don't know what they're smoking to think the GS-R was the best. We could argue that the Integra Type R was actually the best Honda EVER to be sold in the USA simply because it was the only Type R to make it to our shores so far. But, I have not driven either, so I couldn't say for certain. I do know that ITR's had 195hp from the venerable B18C5 (over the 170 they stated in this video).
This Integra has strong rivals from every corner. Whilst Honda was still constantly improving the Civic Si, Prelude Si, and Accord V6, Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi were throwing their own sports coupes into the arena with Celica’s, FTO’s, Eclipse’s, and the RWD 240SX Silvia
I remember these for 2 reasons back in the day. 1) Everyone was putting Type-R stickers on their base models 2) A girl in my city died when she was rear-ended and her airbag deployed..
I also daily drive a GS-R just like this. its a '98 in nighthack black pearl. but Where the hell are the GS-R blade wheels? This n word rolling on hub caps like its a base civic
ha I remember i had an 93 hatch with an GSR motor and jdm b16 vtec. it would scream at 4k. Those were the days love the motor but the damn transmission was the weak point. Had to use an LS transmission and i didn't like it because it was to long. always wonder about type r those things were gold back then
I have a stock 2000 GS-R as my daily, it's a good car. I'm trying so hard not to upgrade it. I have a garage full of ITR internals and Skunk2 cams in the box just sitting around.
I'm guessing that this car has the steel wheels with previous gen wheel covers and missing the rear GS-R badge to hide the fact that it's a GS-R as they're pretty high theft in the Bay Area. Was that Hwy 130/Mt. Hamilton Rd./San Antonio Rd./Mines Rd in between San Jose, the Lick Observatory and Livermore? If so I love that road! Great review guys!
+Carlos I love my DC5 as well. I used to have a 95 integra LS and I miss it a lot though. My newer RSX feels much faster, but there was something special about the Teg.
+Claude Dottin I'd imagine a new Type S would feel comparable to the old Type R, except the DC5 will benefit from the increased torque with the extra displacement. That's what I've noticed at least. Additionally, from the factory structural rigidity is considerably better on my base DC5 vs. my old Integra LS. I suspect with coilovers or very beefy anti-sway bars you could replicate the feel. I would love to drive a GS-R or Type R. It's too bad the Type Rs are so ridiculously expensive now.
+JDMxlove Maybe that's true. I saw one on the west coast last year with 39k miles, and the seller was asking $25k. I feel like that's way more than it's worth. I'd much prefer to spend that kind of money modifying a clean RSX-S or even Civic Si to prep it for the track, or frankly just buy an S2000. But hey, everyone's entitled to their own preferences.
I love the steelies and hubcaps on the GSR! Even better that it was available as a 4-door. You unjustly give the RSX a hard time. The RSX Type-S does have that 200-210 hp NA 100 hp/L VTEC fun, and they're much harder to steal. Plus, the cupholders are actually usable. The Integra is still cool, though. I thought you were going to do one final VTEC run at the end after the -bacon- pigs. hehehe the Integra is a legend its own right. I see what you did there :)
+future62 All you have to do is lower the crossover point for a smoother transition. I don't know of any other engine design that gives you two different camshaft profiles on the same cam.
ventodave Lowering the crossover point doesn't fix the lack of torque in the lower rev range. Peak torque will still come at like 5K instead of 7K. Average HP is still very low compared to a larger, torquier, equally powerful engine.
+future62 Why dont you just rev it more and keep it there.I have a 08 Si and a 15 GTI and I drive them completely different. I like both for different reasons
+future62 That is true, lowering the crossover point doesn't fix the lack of torque. I also agree that the lack of torque can be "fixed" with more displacement. Gearing can also used as a torque multiplier without having to change the engine. In response to your other comment, I believe that every internal combustion engine (correct me if I am wrong) delivers power like a rheostat/potentiometer/variable resistor hence the higher the RPM (the more you turn it up) the more power it makes (or allows to flow through the resistor.)
for street its not the best,I drive a modded 4gen prelude in the low end its not the best but its decent enough. but it pulls hard 7-8600rpms mines an estimated high 13 car,I'm faster than s2ks.
He took of the gray "DOHC VTEC" badge from the rear of the car. That's the easiest giveaway on the outside that it's a GSR. If I lived in California I might do the same.
Why did 80s/90s cars have openings in the headrests? I personally thought that they were uncomfortable... was this for weight savings? Always loved the Integra/RSX. Bring it back, Acura!
The owner sure preserved the car's integraty.
Nice😂

+vard mike Looks like they removed the badge and swapped to different wheels. I believe the GS-R had what the Integra community called "blades."
Very nice and clean car...when Honda used to make an actual fun car. Keep it stock and enjoy!
Fantastic review. Absolutely perfect Integra. Love it.
This is my daily driver and I love it to death.
Could you guys do a review on Acura TSX?
Where are the blades on this GSR?????!!!!!!
This Integra has strong rivals from every corner. Whilst Honda was still constantly improving the Civic Si, Prelude Si, and Accord V6, Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi were throwing their own sports coupes into the arena with Celica’s, FTO’s, Eclipse’s, and the RWD 240SX Silvia
lol at 2:06 he says with d-tec
That is one low mileage car for a 2001 ,the air intake isnt stock ;)
+nylonsteel It could be! I owned one with a stock cold air intake from Honda.
+Danheroman No that is aftermarket intake.
+Danheroman That's not stock. I had a '99 that I bought new.
+sleeksilver plus gsr's never came with hub caps..
+Danheroman Not stock LOL
I remember these for 2 reasons back in the day.
1) Everyone was putting Type-R stickers on their base models
2) A girl in my city died when she was rear-ended and her airbag deployed..
I love the gsr integra! Amazing fun car to me.
Thanks for the review! Wanted one of these, but they're impossible to find stock and not hacked to pieces
This is the best car I have seen
Props for keeping the car stock
I also daily drive a GS-R just like this. its a '98 in nighthack black pearl. but Where the hell are the GS-R blade wheels? This n word rolling on hub caps like its a base civic
These DC2 Integras were great sale, they don't even need a replacement yet when they decided to discontinue.
Doesn't hurt to modify it, as you can see in the Type R. Just needs to be done right.
big ass squirrels lol
yesssssss a great platform of fun back then
Old Honda like the man said it just works
Now new Honda no telling
I think the stock wheels are different no ??
+CarsLife&Comedy Correct. 99 - 01 were "blades".
Would love to see you guys do a follow-up with the RSX (which I drove a couple years and loved it).
Awesome video! Please do a VR6 Corrado next!
ha I remember i had an 93 hatch with an GSR motor and jdm b16 vtec. it would scream at 4k. Those were the days love the motor but the damn transmission was the weak point. Had to use an LS transmission and i didn't like it because it was to long. always wonder about type r those things were gold back then
I see the b18 but how does it have hubcaps and no vtec badge?
I have a stock 2000 GS-R as my daily, it's a good car. I'm trying so hard not to upgrade it. I have a garage full of ITR internals and Skunk2 cams in the box just sitting around.
If you don't want to upgrade sell them to me lol.
I just got a B16b so i'm going to stroke it and swap it in a eg hatch. So i will keep the parts to use.My CTR cams i'll install them in my Gsr-r.
LMFAO! 3:32 "I Just Wanna Throw This car around"
Is it for sale
I thought the GS-R's had aluminum wheels, not steelies with hubcaps?
I'm guessing that this car has the steel wheels with previous gen wheel covers and missing the rear GS-R badge to hide the fact that it's a GS-R as they're pretty high theft in the Bay Area. Was that Hwy 130/Mt. Hamilton Rd./San Antonio Rd./Mines Rd in between San Jose, the Lick Observatory and Livermore? If so I love that road! Great review guys!
I've been looking for a DC2 GSR to review on my channel. You guys beat me to it.
+Zygrene where do you live?
+jench78 NorCal
I love my DC5 but I wouldn't mind owning one of these either.
+Carlos I love my DC5 as well. I used to have a 95 integra LS and I miss it a lot though. My newer RSX feels much faster, but there was something special about the Teg.
+Alex George yeah you need to drive a Gsr or type R variant to compare to Dc5 but still dc5 may still be faster
+Alex George type R aren't that expensive I guess depends on the location
+JDMxlove Maybe that's true. I saw one on the west coast last year with 39k miles, and the seller was asking $25k. I feel like that's way more than it's worth. I'd much prefer to spend that kind of money modifying a clean RSX-S or even Civic Si to prep it for the track, or frankly just buy an S2000. But hey, everyone's entitled to their own preferences.
90s Japanese import...it was a good time!
Such a great car ! Need a Honda CRX Si 1991 review!
whats with the hub caps? no blades?
I love the steelies and hubcaps on the GSR! Even better that it was available as a 4-door.
You unjustly give the RSX a hard time. The RSX Type-S does have that 200-210 hp NA 100 hp/L VTEC fun, and they're much harder to steal. Plus, the cupholders are actually usable. The Integra is still cool, though.
I thought you were going to do one final VTEC run at the end after the -bacon- pigs.
hehehe the Integra is a legend its own right. I see what you did there :)
VTEC- all of the lag, none of the boost :)
I just can't deal with the rheostat style power delivery on the street. I find it very frustrating.
+future62
All you have to do is lower the crossover point for a smoother transition. I don't know of any other engine design that gives you two different camshaft profiles on the same cam.
ventodave
Lowering the crossover point doesn't fix the lack of torque in the lower rev range.
+future62
That is true, lowering the crossover point doesn't fix the lack of torque.
Absolutely LOVE that car..
He took of the gray "DOHC VTEC" badge from the rear of the car. That's the easiest giveaway on the outside that it's a GSR. If I lived in California I might do the same.
Wonder how left front fender got dented in
+freakincrazy6932 he wasn't ready when vtec kicked in yo
What cu tryin say gsr is a sleeper?
Why did 80s/90s cars have openings in the headrests? I personally thought that they were uncomfortable... was this for weight savings?
Always loved the Integra/RSX. Bring it back, Acura!
Cocains a hell of a drug.
That armor all on the dash though...😖
+Dustin Tressler What do you mean?
+Michael Shih it's like a polishing liquid for plastic
It keeps the dash from cracking.
303 is better
Leave it stock! makes it rare
A gsr with those wheels?
"Well fight our way out of these corners, me and you together" exactly. That's what driving a Honda/Acura is all about
wish it still had its gsr blades
You sold me on this car.
