I bought my gsr in December of 2020 for $4900. Iowa car, no rust, 163k miles. Super clean, no interior sun bleaching, and mostly stock. Now that corona is “going away”, I’ve had offers for $7500 cash. The only bad thing about it is a shoddy jdm bumper conversion, but I plan on going back to the classic integra bumper and headlights. I love it. The howling engine as your secondary’s open is a feeling that you can only experience while riding in one of these. Videos don’t do it justice. The gsr and type r were true race cars, and I don’t think I’ll ever sell mine.
I still have my ‘01 in Phoenix yellow that I bought brand new when I was 20. I’m 39 now. Rarely drive it. Sits in my parents garage on a battery maintainer. I drive it once every few months. Every time I drive it, it still feels like the day I got it. Probably the most fun car I’ve ever driven.
so my dad was on the design team for this Integra. I can ask him a few questions about the car if you want. edit: so he wasn't the chief designer but was the lead exterior designer for this car
@Mr Calcium so for the USDM he worked on the 1998 and 2003 accord and for JDM he worked on the 1995 ascot rafaga 1999 odyssey and avancier, and 1995 inspire (not sure on the year on this one apparently) and he says thank you haha seems he didn't get to work on your car though
That's so cool! I design cars for fun all the time. When I was a kid I always remember having a hard trying to choose a favourite between the square headlights and circular ones. Ultimately they both look great though. Does he have sketches of other iterations of the design for this car?
Mattyew so apparently he doesnt have any sketches and not much of an iteration but the reason for the round headlamps being used for this generation was to try to show off the "new"(for the time) projector headlamp technology, and to show off acura's technological advances. the headlamps being a standalone unit and not in a assembly like most cars was also to show the headlamps from afar even if they weren't turned on!
Another beautiful video. By the way, you ARE a narrative. You and Roman always manage to bring literature and cars so close together in such a unique way.
My step father owned this car my entire childhood, and I leaned manual on this car! (Really proud of this fact now!!) I loved the feeling this car gave you. It’s was like driving a formula one car on the road. It was a visceral driving experience that you could feel through the controls. He described it best “the engine deserves to be heard” there are no other words to describe this car. It’s was exactly like playing a musical instrument while driving, your inputs developed a sound and depending on what you do, you can make music. If you want an idea as to how this car feels, just look up senna driving an old fashion manual POV. Not joking at all, this car wanted to be revved to the moon and allowed you to shift and dump the clutch as quickly as you could. It felt like a ninja 600 with the safety of 4 wheels. As a child I was really amused by it and everyday after school I’d go get the keys and rev it in the garage where it resided LOL so dumb thinking of it now.. but man what a noise it made 😣 once I got older I started taking it out without them knowing and without a license lol again really stupid, but looking back now it would be worth any punishment by law or my parents haha. I was a young kid and didn’t know much. And my step dad actually hated the car!! And wanted it gone for some reason 😑 one day someone tried to steal it but lucky it had a cut off switch and they couldn’t get it running. The police came and told us they wouldn’t have gone far this is the only white 1998 type r In New Jersey!! he ended up selling it for like 8k. So stupid but it was a while ago. Once I got of age to buy a car myself I tried looking for one and it was like they didn’t exist. I was destroyed. The car was gone and it looked like I would never drive one again... my type r instrumental days where finished 😢 I tried everything to replace not the noise or the performance, but the experience. I immediately got into bikes and loved it but wreck a few times being a teen male lol. I thought to myself “man if only I could have this feeling but on 4 wheels” ... the type r I’ve driven many sport cars since then to maybe supplement my childhood obsession. And I currently own a 370z manual. But I can tell you, that from all the cars and motorcycles I’ve had, nothing compares to the feeling of a 90’s type r. And I know why the prices are what they are. Because people like me would spend anything to get that feeling back or to maybe experience that feeling for the first time. Now I don’t much but if I did, I know the first thing I’d get...

Like so many of Mr. Regulars reviews this is just an outstanding review of not only a car, but of a place. In doing such a great job he and the Roman elicit thousands of responses from us in the cheap seats and the responses in turn take on a interesting and diverse life of their own. In the last half hour I have noticed something interesting in the response section that I haven't before. Making the assumption that the largest demographic on this site are Millenials I noticed for the first time today a large number of "I remember my........" Or "I sold my _______ and I still miss it.." comments. To me this is a what I would consider a telltale sign of generational shift. The Millenials listened to Boomers talk about the 55 Chevy they had in high school or the 69 SS Camaro they bought when they got home from Vietnam. They also listened to us Gen-X talk about the 64 chevys or 73 Chryslers we drove in high school etc. Tempus Fugit and the time for Millenials to hear their own version of "Ok Boomer" from Gen-Z is nigh. Just a observation, maybe I'm full of shit.
The type r was never cheap... in 2020 money the ITR would have been about $40k new. Or over twice the price of a same year chvic Si, or a 50% markup over a GS Integra. 50% more than a Mustang GT, about the same price as a mustang Cobra.
@@DrewLSsix Agreed. People forget to adjust the MSRP for inflation. Make no mistake, these were special vehicles and a lot of work was put into them. Even when they came out, they were very specifically targeted at Honda/Acura enthusiasts. The Integra GSRs and regular Civics were the ones intended for the masses. We see the same thing today with the new Type R.
Dylan Lewis Yeah when they were new, for the money I was looking at slightly used 300ZX/Supra/3000GT’s. Way more car for the money... these were very niche.
6:04 You actually do make power with a velocity stack especially with a 3" intake tube running down the bumper hence "CAI". Another popular intake system that makes power is the Comptech Icebox or Mugen which is essentially a stock airbox with an extended intake/tube with velocity stack built at the end of it running down to the fender well/bumper that sucks in COOL air.
I bought my 97 LS, automatic, no VTEC, torn to shreds leather seats, leaking oil integra just over a year ago, and I absolutely love it. Haven’t done any real modifications to it, but it’s still just so much fun. It’s slow, it rattles, but it runs. With 205k miles, it still starts up every time and drives without issue, and it does exactly what I tell it to do. It’s not a Type R or even a GSR, but it still does just what it needs to do. A fun entry level sportier car that looks kinda goofy and ugly, but still nice. Even working on it is fun and easy, as long as the 30 year old bolts don’t get seized, break, or strip
I feel like people aren't grasping the fact that it's low mileage. Low mileage, unmolested cars are amazing. Everything is so tight and clean. My 90k mile one is exactly like this 10k mile model.. yeah sure.
That mis-matched colour bumper is really getting to me, especially on a $60000 Integra. Go to NZ and buy a nicer one for about $15k USD Edit: there one's going on trade me motors NZ with under 40000kms on the clock for a buy now of $11k nzd ($7200usd)
There is just something magical about the sound of a B series at high rpm. It awakes something within you. Honestly one of the best stress relievers is chucking an Integra into a series of turns at high revs. Everything fades away. It's just you and the car, nothing else matters. In that moment you are truly free. Well at least until the red and blue lights start flashing in your mirror haha.
I had one of these. Ukdm dc2r When I bought it second hand on the way home I discovered it would rev to 9500rpm for some reason presumably it had a ECU rev limiter increase . It was a surprise. I utilised the 9500rpm limit for more 50,000miles and sold the car. Don't be afraid of revving these cars out. Engine was awesome. So was the handling. The steering was a little soggy off on and just off centre and was very reliant on having decent tires with stiff sidewalls. Also the synchromesh can get tired . The Rust was annoying I remember having the bonnet rust removed and repainted. Within just a few weeks it was bubbling again. Damn. Also this would have been even more killer if it had 6soeed box. Ratios could have been even closer together and touring would have been nicer. Seats were great gripping and comfortable and the boot large. Driving other cars after it gave the impression that they were broken and lumpy. The dc2 r was just the right weight to be properly agile and focusesd. Its a great car that can basically do everything. Not sure it's worth big, big money though tbh.
I had a JDM dc2r in the UK which also had a 9500 rev limit. Mine was fitted with a "Feels" ECU (prior to me buying it) which changed the limit. Maybe yours had the same.

2000 I was looking for a used 2-door car. The dealer showed me the Integra and I thought it was too small inside . I wanted more space & "comfort" for a 2 door so I bought a used Cutlass. LOL

“If you’re gonna let BS live in your brain, you might as well make it pay rent.”

Please do
@Mr Calcium so for the USDM he worked on the 1998 and 2003 accord and for JDM he worked on the 1995 ascot rafaga 1999 odyssey and avancier, and 1995 inspire (not sure on the year on this one apparently) and he says thank you haha seems he didn't get to work on your car though
@@kinaritakashima Wait, did he help design the rear fascia of the Accord coupe? Please tell him thanks, I love the faux-NSX look.
Another beautiful video. By the way, you ARE a narrative. You and Roman always manage to bring literature and cars so close together in such a unique way.
The sound of the V-tec is automotive nostalgia.
The car was gone and it looked like I would never drive one again... my type r instrumental days where finished 😢
I tried everything to replace not the noise or the performance, but the experience. I immediately got into bikes and loved it but wreck a few times being a teen male lol. I thought to myself “man if only I could have this feeling but on 4 wheels” ... the type r
I’ve driven many sport cars since then to maybe supplement my childhood obsession.
Hell. Yeah. Dude.

Having the same car since 1995 is impressive, props to Greg.
It was his FIRST car too! Had an awesome time hanging out with him and talking about his experience owning that GSR
That engine note reminds me as to why I should have worked harder in my 20s so I could have afforded the type R rather than the LS (nice Civic)
Finally, the review I've been waiting so long for. Love my gsr 🙏
What's suppose to be cheap and cheerful ,now it got bring-a-trailer price....oh Integra type R
Could still snag a base model Integra and make it quicker, Type R is Hype R
I guess I never should have sold my 95 integra I bought brand new back in the day. White, stick, GSR.
90's Vtec crossover. "Feels like the B series engine is about to explode". Such an underrated statement.
@@rob175kks Ah OK that's interesting. The extended power band really helped the car 6000-9500 is a nice wide band for a Vtec. I thought it still pulled well from 9000-9500 also which was good:)
