I have a P-125 and it's pretty good for playing classical music. The big downside is the key action, fast music like the Moonlight Sonata part 3 (played in this video) is very tedious to play as it is very hard to hit the notes at the far end of the keys. The internal speakers are also not too great for the low-end notes but they do the job. Right now, the only upgrade from the P125 I see worth buying is either something like a Yamaha U3 or a baby grand, which I don't have enough space right now for it. I guess that people that are more into electronic music/mixing see the P125 to be very limiting in terms of number of tones. I only play with the concert piano tone which is sampled from a CFX Yamaha Grand Piano, it's very nice to play with the headphones. The demo songs are nice but useless to be honest. The metronome is also useful but kind of hard to play with when you start changing the tempo type (4/4, etc.) since there is no LCD screen. I have yet to use the pianist app, this might help to adjust those things. Overall the P-125 does the job for beginner to intermediate at best, after that the key action really fall short.
I LOVE the action lol feels like my mom's old piano I grew up with lol should try getting the sub that came with mine! Love the player piano function as well but the bass is awesome. Maybe I got a newer model but even in guitar center it was over powering on the low end
@@anonimous_user7318 the pivot is short. This is a problem with a lot of lower end digital pianos. Basically it's like pushing a door from near the handle (easy) compared to pushing it near the hinge (hard). This is one of the main reasons why I ended up going for the kawai ES120 instead as it doesn't have this issue as bad and the action is better overall.
I can confirm that the P125 is not fantastic. It feels good for sustain-heavy music. When I play Moonlight Sonata part 3 on the P125, I really miss my P-515. The P125 is good only relative to the price, and it's light enough to be quite portable.
Nice review. For me there is something undefinably satisfying about this piano - maybe its the tactile feedback of the simulated string resonance on the default piano sound. My wish list for an updated model would be Bluetooth and a textured/ivory finish on the white keys. I can’t see Yamaha giving us a built-in LCD screen and upgrading the action at this price point, but I’ll be happy if I’m wrong!
With the DGX 670, Yamaha has brought in what you asked for . a built in LCD Screen, bluetooth and a slightly mattish white keys at almost the same price point!
Simple answer 'YES'. No matter what, Yamahas always worth buying. Their build quality for longevity is top notch. Its been 20 Years for my PSR 275 and still works like a charm. not even a single service done. I'm planning on buying a P125 this year.
Great video. I bought the P125 earlier in the year and have used it for short durations throughout the week. I really like the action having used a work station previously and don’t mind the voice limitations as I usually find a few favourites and use them almost exclusively. I love the reserved look of this piano. I connect the piano to an iPad occasionally and explore the app but mostly I just select the live grand or stage E. Piano and play some seventies feels. For my limited use this piano has been ideal. It has inspired me to play more and so my ability has markedly changed in the last year. After watching this video I will attempt to delve further into the app which I find very user friendly and so activate the super charged powerhouse 😂
Congratulations. Yamaha products are great. The main piano tone should grow and grow on you. The speakers are rather modest though, so I recommend connecting the P-125 to some basic 5" studio monitor speakers if you're going to play it much without headphones.
Great reviews . I adore sound of this piano but I neded one now therefore because of shortages in Europe I bought FP30x. I am not big fan of Roland sound but really love it’s action on the other side.Dilemmas of very very begginer pianist :)
I tried the FP30X not so long ago. Its a good buy because it's a huge improvement on the old FP30. Roland is making some fine products and has revolutionised its FP range.
One interesting thing I have to point out... I own both a P125 and a P115. Both have got the "GHS" key mechanism.. but they feel completely diffirent. Actually the P115 keys feel much more authentic to play. More like a real piano. Its crazy.. I owned the P125 long before I got the P115 but the P115 is sooo much better to play. P125 should be the same or an improvement but it clearly feels less reaslistic. P115 keys also "reset" faster after pressing which feels way better in faster music. But also slow, soft music really is easier to play on the P115🤷🏻♂️
Great update vid, good to know that GHS keybed is holding up from daily use. It would be nice if Yamaha integrated the DGX-670 into that Pianist App. I’m visually impaired and that tiny screen can be very difficult to see at times.
Thanks for the review, Jeremy. Only ONE QUESTION : In 2023, Is the Smart Piano App compatible with an android phone / tab ??? Would appreciate a reply. Thanks.
I am thinking about getting a P125 because of its simplicity, and all of the other ones that have more features are not accessible for someone who is blind. Would this be the best option, or is there something else? Obviously, touch screens are a no go, as are the advanced features like on the DGX 660 and DGX 670.
@@Toogoodtobetrue458 I think it's 88 key sampled. Also they reserve the osendorfer sample for their higher end models. Even the DGX 670 doesn't have it🎹🎶
Nice follow up review. It's evident a product refresh is in order. We're waiting Yamaha! Really enjoyed your playing. A very informative and entertaining presentation. Take Care..
Frank in NY: You have a point, but I think you're slightly off the mark. The truly outdated piano is the P-45. The P-125 should replace it as Yamaha's entry level piano, dropping in price slightly. At present there is a vast gap between the P-125 and the P-515, so what is most missing from the Yamaha catalogue is a lightweight portable piano with a screen, a better plastic action than GHS, and priced at about €950. It would be a good home studio piano, doubling as a semi-pro gigging instrument. I have something like this (the P-255, which cost rather more than €950 back then) but Yamaha stupidly deleted it from the catalogue. I'm so glad I got one in time. (Last time I looked a few suppliers were still clearing them for about €999.) And the P-515 did not really replace the P-255 functionally, because they are very different products. This situation leaves the Roland FP60X with no proper competion from Yamaha. Can you guess which portable DP I'm recommending to friends for intermediate level piano studies and for light gigging? Yes, it's the FP60X!
@@Zoco101 I hear ya Mike, yes I vaguely remember the P-255. I agree the P-45 should be history. I think Casio captured the entry level market. My eyes are on the Roland FP-60X, and hoping to pick up one by years end. I've been playing a Yamaha P-80 for 18 years now, I'm due for a updated Keyboard! I do like PSR-EW310, it has some great sounds, cheap and fun.
@@Frank-in-NY You're still playing a P-80? Good for you! I was playing one for many years, before I got my P-255, but my P-80 has key sticking problems. I'm tempted to spend the money on an overhaul. It's kind of a classic now, and precious few portable pianos have improved on the feel of its firm (if slightly clunky) GHE action. Sadly, I found it really tricky getting the right speakers, since it came with none. It deserves a pair of 8" studio monitors, or 2x5" plus a sub. I never found satisfactory gigging speakers for it, but now there are some good options. The P-255 has revolutionised my practice sessions because of the two USB ports, the excellent onboard speakers, stereo line-in, and the beautiful CFiii patches that keep me enthralled. It's GH action is similar in design to the GHE, but smoother and lighter - a little too light for some players maybe. Anyway, both of these actions are decidedly superior to GHS, so why has Yamaha abandoned them on its portable pianos? Cost cutting? Well, Roland and Casio actions are making Yamaha look silly in the sub €1,100 portable pianos, but there is a basic home piano model, the YDP-164, which still holds its own in this price range and does have the excellent GH action. You are right to eye up the FP60X. If you have any pianistic aspiration, you must get a reasonable (weighted) action, such as found on that instrument. And it has many useful extras to play with. For those who can't afford an FP60X, the best alternative portable pianos IMO are the Casio PX-S1100/3100 and the Alesis Prestige.
@@Zoco101 Hey Mike....Yup, still on the P-80, like 18 years, I'm really due. I had the key sticking problem as well. Here's something that might help you. I thought it was a broken key. I was able to locate a replacement key, and ordered it. There are a few RUclips videos, showing how to replace a broken Key. I'm an ex-IBM Field Engineer, so yeah...I'll try doing the fix. If it's not working anyway, why not. So I get it P-80 opened up, it's not a bad job, I got the Bad Key out to discover it wasn't broken. There is a lubricant that Yamaha uses to make key travel smoother, it built up, it was almost the consistency of Vaseline. I guess from all the years of warm days, the grease melted and settled around this key, causing it to stick. I cleaned the area, and put it back, fixed!! Yes the P-255 is a nice Keyboard, and has a decent audio. The P-80 sounds great with headphones, sounds like cheap tinny crap through external systems. I've played it through a Roland KC-150, and monitor speakers, sounds just as bad to me. I've got my sights on the FP-60x, but I could do the FP-30x . I plan on getting a Yamaha PSR-EW310 for alternate sounds anyway. Just I prefer having a display to select patches. I agree, you get a whole lot of bang for the buck with Casio. I had an Alesis QS8.1 once it was decent. Say...I was strolling through a local music store, they had a Medeli SP4200 out. WOW! It's like a Yamaha DGX-670 but for $499 US Dollars! Nice! Thanks for your input, appreciate it....take care, stay safe

Hello can anyone guide me for which one should i buy between Roland fp 10 and yamaha p125.. Your guidance will be helpful should reoly if possible.. Thank u..!
I bought mine from Kraft Music online and they threw in an (came today) upgraded pedal & usb type B host cable for under $675 less than the ‘asking price’. Using their online chat, you can put together a bundle. They did have the keyboard in a bundle that included an x stand, bench & other goodies for $699 but I really didn’t need much of those extras. I was happy to get a better pedal, not top of the line but also not the little square that slides all over the place.
Purchased this week and the p125 definitely needs an upgrade as in my opinion the technology is really outdated. Some of the voices aren't great either. The output from the speakers is terrible and you definitely need to be able to select all functions without having to use some of the keys. It's a pain in the butt either having to connect my tablet to use the app or use the keys in order to select some functions. I'm returning to the piano after a gap of 57 years, so back to being a beginner. I'd have liked the p515, but couldn't justify the extra expense at the moment for a beginner. Hopefully a newer version of the p125 doesn't come out for a while or I will really regret my purchase. I stuck with a brand that I know and trust........hence the reason that I got this model.
Apparently there’s a P125A that no longer has some of the features. I was shopping for a lighter weight keyboard that I could haul around to Contra dances and the forerunner to this one was recommended so I went to Amazon to read the reviews. They only had a couple of this model and plenty of the newer A model. The 125 received pretty much all great reviews while the A model did not. One reviewer convinced me to go with the older version. Mine came today and I’m impressed with the sound. In addition to light weight I need a good beefy sound and action & I think this may do the job. My older keyboard is the p155 (I think) & weighs over 50# once it’s in the bag. This one weighs 25# but I haven’t bagged it yet to get a total weight but it’s definitely much lighter & will be easier on my back. I just hope it will hold up to the schlepping around it was purchased for🤞🏼.
What is the width of a single key of the Yamaha P-125? My keyboard has 20 mm wide keys and sometimes the keys feel too small. I often play two keys by accident.
If you love the tone of CFIIIS, get P125 before it is gone because most likely the newer model will be using CFX samples, not sure if it will sound good in lower P series models. But I believe functions like Bluetooth and more MIDI voices will be present in the next model. Touch screen maybe not so soon.
to explain this: arius 143 and arius 163 had the "pure cf" sound engine like the p125. but the 144 and 164 (the next gen and newest of arius series) have cfx sound engine. so he assumes that since the arius models sound is replayced by cfx sound, the p 135 will have cfx sound too.
Thanks for the great video Jeremy and insight into Yamaha's app, I'm a 60 year old drummer taking up piano as a 2nd instrument. Any suggestions for quick start regarding lessons (on-line/apps, etc..)? Just ordered the P125. Cheers
I’m ready to buy my first piano and I’m leaning towards this, but I’m afraid of spending the $ for this and then Yamaha dropping the P-135 soon after lol. Not sure what to do
PRICES CLIMBING AS YOU ALREADY KNOW. DEAL WITH THE SELLER AND TELL THEM IT'S DATED. I JUST BOUGHT IT AND FOR THE MONEY AND WEIGHT (OLD FART), IT DOES THE JOB. GOOD LUCK!
Hi Jeremy, I’m looking into getting this kb for what I consider a good deal. $600 for this p145 used only twice (yes it’s in mint condition), the official stand, and the 3 pedal attachment. Would you recommend this setup at this price point for my 1st keyboard starting out?
The app is very nice and powerful, but will it be usable in several years? I noticed that 2 comments mentioned using a Yamaha piano for almost 20 years. Can you imagine that this app will work in 20 years, even though the basic keyboard may work fine. Of course, we live in a disposable, throw-away society, so using this P-125 with the app for 5 to 10 years is reasonable. After that all bets may be off. P.s. I’m playing on a 104 year old Vose upright and a 96 year old Steinway model M grand. Both sound superb.
Yes, this is the Achilles heel of P125. That's why I have link to a similar Yamaha digital piano that has a big colour LCD screen without the need for an app.
I can report that the piano sound, Rhodes organ sound, and DX7-type sound (synth piano) on the P-125 are FAR superior to those of the more expensive Roland RD-88. You can't appreciate this until you hear them in person, and maybe at your own home. Sure, the P-125 doesn't have the extra variety of sounds, but if piano is what you want, then save yourself the $$ and just get the P-125.
can i play every piano song on this? i own a keyboard with only 61 keys. im not dissapointed about quality. But it limits which songs i can play with it.
Hi Jeremy. Great vids. Can I please have your opinion on which is the best keyboard in sound and quality please. Casio ctk 6200 or the yamaha psr e373? Thank you. 👍 🎹
I have a P-125 - does it matter how old the piano is to be able to use the app? Someone said Yamaha had updated the P-125 to better spec.... and older models might not be able to sync up with the app...?
I was going to get the P125 but they were discontinued. I ordered the P125a . Will that pretty much be the same thing ? Also …the Roland you say has better action? Which model is that ?
A ver. El P125A es un modelo exactamente igual al P125 pero le han quitado la función para transferir audio por USB, algo útil si quieres grabar el sonido del piano en estéreo en la pc por ejemplo.
Hello Sir I am Nihit I want to buy a piano I am confused between Casio ct s200 and casio ctk2550 Which one should I buy My budget is 6000 to 7500 Please tell me If you have a good piano in this budjet please tell me
Hmm, seems the budget is about 100 US dollars. Nihit, if you can get one of those keyboards new for under 7500 rupees, that's good. They are more expensive than that here in Europe. If you can't, well maybe you should consider a secondhand instrument. And if you want to play anything that's very pianistic, you'll need a weighted action, which these keyboards don't have. Otherwise, just having touch sensitive keys will do.
Mike thanks for guidence but there are no second hand piano I asked first only because it is good to first buy second hand piano but there are no So I am buying new
Yes, you can, because page 16 of the MOXF6 User Manual shows the back panel has a MIDI IN 9-pin DIN connection. The problem is, the P-125 only has a USB to Host output port. Find out what you need to connect the 2 together and you’ll be in business. I recommend making a visit to your local Guitar Center. They should know what converter cable or throughput device will connect the 2 together for you. What do you hope to gain from this? The MOXF6 has a built-in audio interface and its own keyboard. If you want access to a full 88-keys, then connecting the 2 together is Step 1. Then you have to learn how to send MIDI messages to your MOXF6 from the P-125, which might entail turning on MIDI out on the P-125, with the Smart Pianist app or a combination of keystrokes. You also need to turn Local Off on your P-125, which is real easy and documented in the P-125 User Manual.
How do you compare this to roland fp60x?????? Since videos i saw, seems yamaha sound piano is more natural, other sounds prefer the roland. Tell me your opinion, i highly respect you and will be excelent to know it. Thanks. Greetings from Argentina!
I played this today at a store. Through headphones, most of the electric pianos had this sort of white noise additional layer added on to every note above middle C and also you could notice it on all chords with over 3 notes (not noticeable through headphones). Does anyone else notice this?
What is your recommendation for a compact digital piano. I need it to smaller in length. Like a 72or 76 key keyboard. I’m a beginner intermediate piano player and I really need it to feel like a regular Piano. (As much as possible). Thanks for your help.

Really ؟؟? I have 115 now and I wanted to buy 125 . So don't buy it ? Is this 115 good?
Great update vid, good to know that GHS keybed is holding up from daily use. It would be nice if Yamaha integrated the DGX-670 into that Pianist App. I’m visually impaired and that tiny screen can be very difficult to see at times.
Thanks for the review, Jeremy.
Only ONE QUESTION :
In 2023, Is the Smart Piano App compatible with an android phone / tab ???
Would appreciate a reply. Thanks.
I've always liked this keyboard p series from the p85 to the p90 this seems to be another solid board because it is light and easy to take to gigs
The power on default setting on the p125 is the best to use and nothing else.
I am thinking about getting a P125 because of its simplicity, and all of the other ones that have more features are not accessible for someone who is blind. Would this be the best option, or is there something else? Obviously, touch screens are a no go, as are the advanced features like on the DGX 660 and DGX 670.
Hi! Great video!! Would you please tell me what’s the name of the song starting at 0:30? The ballad, sounds so beautiful! Thanks again! Great content
Howls moving castle I think
I've seen a lot of reviews, I think it's a really good and solid digital piano.
Kinda wondering how P-135 could improve from this.
They could refine the sound a bit from sampling all keys instead of just sampling every 5th (I’m guessing) key. And put on a Bosendorfer!
A P-135 could integrate Bluetooth connectivity, and maybe use the GH instead of the GHS, which is a step higher in terms of realism.
Better speakers
@@Toogoodtobetrue458 I think it's 88 key sampled. Also they reserve the osendorfer sample for their higher end models. Even the DGX 670 doesn't have it🎹🎶
wonderful video. may have to get one for my youth group.
Awesome content, as always. What's the name of the Waltz you played?
Howl's Moving Castle
Nice follow up review. It's evident a product refresh is in order. We're waiting Yamaha! Really enjoyed your playing. A very informative and entertaining presentation. Take Care..
Thanks buddy!

Hi Jeremy! Great video! I am likely to commit to the P125 this weekend.
I am curious on the tune you are playing to Ballard Grand at 0:45. Magical!
Howl's Moving Castle
Hello can anyone guide me for which one should i buy between Roland fp 10 and yamaha p125..
Your guidance will be helpful should reoly if possible..
Thank u..!
How do you record such high quality samples for your video?
I wish to see a second version of the p121 that has much better action and everything else.
Recommendation?
@@_Crunch Yes! I just recently discovered the Studiologic Numa X Piano 73 key version! Check it out!
P125 still worth buying as long as you don’t pay over sticker price. I’d say p125 over p45/71 even for the ones that don’t have any piano experience
One question: does it output a MIDI signal via USB?
Yes
@@JeremySee Thank you
Purchased this week and the p125 definitely needs an upgrade as in my opinion the technology is really outdated.
Thank you, thank you thank you. I never knew the name of that song.
What a valuable and enjoyable service these videos have been! I will use the link for my DGX when the time comes.
Awesome, thank you!
7:24 This sounds beautiful. Is this a cover from something?
What is the width of a single key of the Yamaha P-125? My keyboard has 20 mm wide keys and sometimes the keys feel too small. I often play two keys by accident.
If you love the tone of CFIIIS, get P125 before it is gone because most likely the newer model will be using CFX samples, not sure if it will sound good in lower P series models. But I believe functions like Bluetooth and more MIDI voices will be present in the next model. Touch screen maybe not so soon.
bluetooth = udbt-01
Can you explain this further?
to explain this: arius 143 and arius 163 had the "pure cf" sound engine like the p125. but the 144 and 164 (the next gen and newest of arius series) have cfx sound engine. so he assumes that since the arius models sound is replayced by cfx sound, the p 135 will have cfx sound too.
what should l buy yamaha p 45/71 or roland fp 10?
Thanks for the great video Jeremy and insight into Yamaha's app, I'm a 60 year old drummer taking up piano as a 2nd instrument. Any suggestions for quick start regarding lessons (on-line/apps, etc..)? Just ordered the P125. Cheers
What is the piece you played with ballad grand
It's not clear how to connect the app. That's what I'm searching for.
What is the name of the first song you start playing at :30 seconds?
Can you play boogie woogie on this? Thank u
Thanks for this review
Hello! Im just wondering, i have the same piano and all of the sudden there's no volume at all. Can you help me?
I’m ready to buy my first piano and I’m leaning towards this, but I’m afraid of spending the $ for this and then Yamaha dropping the P-135 soon after lol. Not sure what to do
Same. If i get a hint of the P135 then I'll wait it out. Hopefully this year.
@@nigeldsouza6088 Es bastante probable, ya que P125 salio en 2018 y ya son 4 años desde su lanzamiento
PRICES CLIMBING AS YOU ALREADY KNOW. DEAL WITH THE SELLER AND TELL THEM IT'S DATED. I JUST BOUGHT IT AND FOR THE MONEY AND WEIGHT (OLD FART), IT DOES THE JOB. GOOD LUCK!
Can you make a comparison video of yamaha p125 and kawai es110? Thanks!
Is there a sensitive touch? The stronger you press the louder is the sound, and viceversa? Thanks
Yes
Thank you for the review! May I ask what the first song you played was? It was in waltz time
I can report that the piano sound, Rhodes organ sound, and DX7-type sound (synth piano) on the P-125 are FAR superior to those of the more expensive Roland RD-88.
It's a full sized (88 key) keyboard, so you should be able to. I have the same issue.
What's the first piece you're playing?
I guess it is better than the Donner e-pianos?
1:50 so many one star reviews yikes! I think I'll manage the digital piano on my own edit so you HAVE to have the app?
Which is the piano with better action? The link just goes to Shopee but not showing any specific model. Thanks.

Hi Jeremy. Great vids. Can I please have your opinion on which is the best keyboard in sound and quality please. Casio ctk 6200 or the yamaha psr e373? Thank you. 👍 🎹
When I plug it in it takes away the Bosendorfer, does it not have that?
My Nord Grand doesn’t have a velocity curve setting lol. Yamaha for the win.
Hi Jerry, is it true this piano works with their bluetooth dongle (UD-BT01)? please help, thanks
Can u say which is better .?………..Yamaha psr e373 or Casio ctx 700… I saw ur old video and u didn’t say which one is better…
And Jeremy did just right. Which one sounds better to YOUR ears? That's the best for you then :)
I use android phone. Can I connect smart pianist to P125?
Don't know if you got an answer, but there is an android app
So is there a comparable model that has a battery or at least a USB port?
Hello Sir
I am Nihit
I want to buy a piano I am confused between
Casio ct s200 and casio ctk2550
Which one should I buy
My budget is 6000 to 7500
Please tell me
If you have a good piano in this budjet please tell me
Is your budget in United States Currency?
No I am an Indian
Can you suggest
Hmm, seems the budget is about 100 US dollars. Nihit, if you can get one of those keyboards new for under 7500 rupees, that's good. They are more expensive than that here in Europe. If you can't, well maybe you should consider a secondhand instrument.
And if you want to play anything that's very pianistic, you'll need a weighted action, which these keyboards don't have. Otherwise, just having touch sensitive keys will do.
Mike thanks for guidence but there are no second hand piano I asked first only because it is good to first buy second hand piano but there are no
So I am buying new
Hi Jeremy! Can u review kawai ep500? Thanks a lot!

What's the Harpsichord piece, I heard this piece 10 years ago and never knew what it was. I haven't heard it in forever but remember the tune.
Bach Invention No 8 in F Major BWV 779
You know when the next update for genos Yamaha coming out
Would this synergize well with my Yamaha MOXF6 synth? Can I use it to control the MOXF6? That would be sweet.
Hello sir, do you think a USB headphones 7.1 surround sound will work on a digital piano? Or should I just buy a 3.1mm headset?

Merry Go Round of Life - Howl's Moving Castle
I played this today at a store. Through headphones, most of the electric pianos had this sort of white noise additional layer added on to every note above middle C and also you could notice it on all chords with over 3 notes (not noticeable through headphones). Does anyone else notice this?
Is that white noise unpleasant or tolerable?
