This was wonderfully, explained. I feel great about the workflow now. I’ve seen other RUclipsrs talk about the workflow, even down to the standard vs wide gamut HDR, but it just wasn’t clicking for me. Your approach, your speed, your visuals, your back and forth demonstrations drove it home. I have subscribed, belled and liked. Thank you a bunch.
Thank you SO much Alister. A very clear yet comprehensive explanation of a subject & process that has confused me a great deal since beginning shooting with an FS700R & Atomos Shogun 7 earlier in the year. Answered all of my questions🙂 Absolute gold dust! You are a great teacher. Bought you a coffee on your website [which is great also🙂]

Hello Alister great video, It helped me lot. Just a little correction needed maybe: by the RAW TO LOG CONVERSION panel you have Sony Slog3/ S-Gamut 3, but at the same time you say Sony Slog3/ S-Gamut 3 Cine. :) ( at 7:44) / So wich one is better for professional deliver (Commercials, Advertising) ? Thank you.
Fantastic video…this has really helped me and you explain the information so well… thank you … you don’t perhaps have any courses in filming etc by any chance or run a workshop ? Anyway thanks again

Wondering why is at 6:20 the project was set to 24p if the files are 23.98p. In FCP there is a 23.98p option as well. (At least in 2024) I know it's an old video.
I recently purchased a Ninja V, signal kept going in and out. Did all of the trouble shooting and no result. I wanted to use it as a gaming capture card like your advertisement. I have found some FAQ and shows that ATOMOS has trouble keeping the signal from certain consoles or HDMI products. Wish you would fix this and more gamers would love this product.

@@AtomosChannel Thank you. I have already done that, and I asked some very detailed questions relating to my XH2s using the ninja V plus and raw, and they just passed responsibility to fuji and didn’t answer any of my questions…
Great and very useful, thanks so much, Alister! How would you adjust your workflow if you had to use prores RAW files and standard rec.709 clips in the same project? Guess it happens a lot when you have a variety of cams in use...
THANK YOU ! But PLEASE can you do the same video but with Premiere Pro ?! :) I shot in HLG and PQ monitoring on my Ninja V and Sony A7iii and all my clips in premiere look over exposed... while on the ninja they weren’t. Is there a switch to in premiere to convert to the full range and export in a rec709 format ? Many thanks ! Awesome content Atomos ;)
Not sure if you found this out but Premiere has a panel next to the effects tab that says "Source" you change the color space there. You can right click and save it as a preset and just drag it to all your footage.
Hello Create. Consume. Repeat. Thanks for your comment! Please note that if you need to output a final asset in Rec. 709, the warning you are seeing is simply a reminder that you are working with a wide gamut project and that colors may appear differently when viewed on a Rec. 709 display. To ensure that your colors appear correctly on a Rec. 709 display, you will need to convert your wide gamut project to Rec. 709. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue: Make sure that your project settings are set to Rec. 709. Check your software documentation for instructions on how to change your project settings to Rec. 709. If your project is already set to Rec. 709, make sure that your export settings are also set to Rec. 709. Check your software documentation for instructions on how to change your export settings to Rec. 709. If you are still having issues, you may need to adjust your color grading to ensure that your colors appear correctly when viewed on a Rec. 709 display. You can use color grading tools to adjust the colors in your project until they appear correctly on a Rec. 709 display. If you are unsure how to perform these steps or need further assistance, you can refer to your NLE software documentation or contact the NLE software support team for help. We hope this helps! Question: Is there any difference shooting SLOG2 vs SLOG3 when capturing raw out of FS5II ? I see in the video you shot SLOG3 but I thought when capturing RAW with Shogun / FS5 SLOG2 was the optimal picture profile.
I think I've heard Alister say that the S-Log2 is the best setting for the FS5's sensor (S-Log3 for the FX9) but since they don't have a Sony S-Log 2 Conversion setting, then I guess the ones he uses on this video will have to do. I'm in the same boat as you on this. It seems to work OK shooting S-Log 2 then using the S-Log 3 RAW TO LOG conversions, I also use Alister's Venice Look LUTS when shooting RAW. The minus values are handy because it means we can shoot overexposed which cleans up the lower mids of the picture, then bring everything down with a -2 or so LUT setting.

Love the Atomos Ninja V, I’ll buy another one soon for my other camera.
Thanks for the video Alister, but what about outputting for HDR playback? This only covers SDR output.
I wonder if something has changed, because as I go step step, the waveform goes up to 10k and it says Rec2020 PQ and not Rec 709
great video but what do we do when its time to export it you missed that part
I wonder if the Ninja V will have Prores RAW for the GH5 soon
Thank you!!!!Very interesting

Is there really that much of a difference in color quality between regular ProRes and ProRes RAW?
Thank you for this tutorial... I'm planning to buy Ninja V and Panasonic S1H... Does Ninja V Records 5.9k Full Frame in ProResRawHQ?
When I export a wide gamut project I get the rec 709 warning. What do you recommend doing if I need to output a final asset in rec 709?

May I please ask how come in my FCPX(10.4.8) doesn't have the RAW to log Conversion just above Camera Lut in the clip's inspector??
Any suggestions for settings for z6 pro res raw ?

Hello !! Iwluld like to buy a FS7 and a Inferno Shogun! I f I want to do ProRes Raw Do I need a XDA-FS7 EXTENTION ????
My inspector window does not show all these options there’s no LUT or raw to log did i shoot it wrong or is there something I need to do in final cut?
@A4 Films I didn’t, I just switched to blackmagic cameras. Makes raw easier for me.
