To shoot ProRes RAW you need 3 things.

DSLR Video Shooter Hi, like your Videos, could you pls do a compatison between the FS700 RAW (DNG) and the BMPCC 4K (DNG). Why? Both are interesting cameras. FS700 because of RAW, HighSpeed, ND Filters, XLRs and Battery Solution. The Pocket on the other Hand RAW, Color and Sizefactor. But which of them delivers better dynamic range and better color, that is the Question. Would like to see it on your channel. BG

Yeah! Someone else using an FS700/ Some days I feel like I'm the only one left using that cam. It's been really great with my Shogun Inferno.
This is so over the top for me and way out of my budget but still very interesting to learn about!
Eergonomics aside, I think you can get great images out of the FS700-RAW combo. That is why it's still relevant. As a cheapest option, probably many will look at it... Caleb, it would be VERY INTERESTING to see a detailed review on the FS700's dr, iso capabilities, best settings and limitations... THANKS for the great content Caleb. Keep up the good job, sir!

My FS-700 is still relevant which is kind of astonishing. Just my discontinued Odyssey 7Q is becoming the weakest link. Great stuff.
hell ya, I've had an early version of the FS700 and just got it back from Sony repair in Jersey and now it's 4K Raw!! I just did a test shot and it's about 2:11 long and the file in hq is 8 gigs! It looks insane!

Nice videos. The DJI X7 requires an external recorder but in this instance the external recorder is the Inspire 2 airframe which has the built in CineCore 2 recording system. The camera itself has no ability to record internally at all.
One thing to remember, at least this is a huge one for me, is not all raw output is the same. The EVA 1 is a 10bit raw output. That's one huge reason I love sony because they have 12bit raw output, up to 16bit raw output. They also have those nice color bit depths at HFRs too. Just a thought.

I Love my fs700 - although oh do not has the raw update. It's a beautiful form factor and even couple years later I can upgrade it and get like you said a brand camera 😍

Very thankful for this series, makes catching up very easy. Will you be going into the what the image out of the FS700 (via RAW) looks like/can look like? I've been on the fence about it for a while now. Its got all the specs but it still has that terrible colour science and I'm not sure if that will be a deal breaker fro me.

Cannot believe how much things has changed in just 5 years. I just got a Nikon Z8. A small device that can do internal ProRes Raw at 4K 60P if I remember correctly.
Great video especially since I'm still pretty new to digital video. I have the Lumix G85 and have had some difficulties editing the cameras files and being able to successfully color grade them to my satisfaction. I am using the studio version of Davinci Resolve on a decent computer, so that's not the issue. So from what I understand is that I can use the clean HDMI out from the G85 which is 4:2:2 8 bit according to the specs, and record Prores or DNxHR onto the Atomos Ninja Inferno. I read that the GH5 works the same except the HDMI output is 10 bit. If all is true, then there are a lot more cameras that are capable.
I really appreciate and love these very in these videos, you are helping me so much to learn these very awesome and professional skills! I have the FS5 and the Shogun Inferno, I'm about to get the raw upgrade and start diving into this very soon, I'm wondering if you have a recommendation for a good quality SDI cable? Revisiting this video 5 years later and boy were your predictions correct about more cameras coming soon with ProRes RAW support! I can shoot 4k60 RAW with my $2500 R6II and 8K/30 RAW on my $3300 R5, record it on my $500 Ninja V+, and easily edit the footage on a $500 Mac Mini. Filmmaking on a budget has come so so far in just 5 years. Even my iPhone has ProRes up to 4k30 now lol.

BTW I think the Ninja V is capable to record proresraw but the problem there is not dslr camera that you can output that codec with hdmi, I hope they update the odyssey 7q+ also because I have the fs700 (good news for fs700 owners)... did you try any work around with the HDMI to SDI Converter?.. thanks againg for your videos

BTW, I wrote proresRAWHQ 4k DCI 60p on a cheap $120 512GB SSD from SanDisk, and it handles it without issues. And you don't need120 fps capability, It is buffered in the camera and goes out as 24p timeline (or 30/50/60, if you set this in camera settings)

Got a question tough, with Sony FS-7 mkii , when wanna record ProRes Raw on A.Inferno , do we have to get SDI signal feed from Sony XDCA-FS7 Extension Unit ( recorder ) or can we get signal feed directly from the camera?

The internal recording of the FS700 is Sh*t! But when you do external recording it's a BEAST! I think it's amazing that such an old camera still holds up to the standards of 2018. I love that camera!
beastbarr what is the best external recorder in your opinion. Is inferno the best match? I seen several but so far I have not pair it yet on my FS700 thanks for your help.

Hey, you are doing very informative and relaxing videos :-) I have a FS700 as well in combination with the Odyssey 7Q+ recorder. It is limited to Rec709/Rec709-800%, Slog2 and RAW. The combo delivers great pictures but one downside is the noise level at ISO minimum 2000 with Slog2. My question: is the ISO free selectable with Prores RAW? So you could avoid the noise? Thanks!

Thanks for the video! Great information there! Comming from RedCode is was asking my self that you are not able to change the color sience later right? so lets say you record in Slog2 you can´t go to cine4 when using sony for example. So its different from the raw I use on the Red but very impressive as I have seen in the shot of the fountain.
Oh and by the way lucky for all the people that bought a fs700 when it came out. Still state of the art. Shot al lot on that camera back in the days. Its crazy that it still is in line with all the cameras and features in 2018. Love for the FS700!!!!
Man, your vids look so good at lower res(720p). Been moving the browser between my two different monitors at 4k - 360p. Nice work. How does one balance the youTube compression and video export properly?
7:10 “media fast enough to handle the data” explains one thing to me; I take 3D video on my Nintendo 3ds and recently it’s telling me that it’s not able to write to the SD card at the appropriate speed- that means I need an SD card powerful enough for it to be written onto the Nintendo 3Ds 3D video

They use ONLY RAW! ONLY! or FILM for special occasion. Also, they use not "shity raw' from fs700, fs5, fs7 etc. If they use Sony cameras (as F55, F65, Venice) then it is 16 bit linear raw. Not 10 bits, not 12 bits, not 14 bits - 16 bits! You can grade it as You want ))

There's been plenty of interesting gimbals coming out. The moza X & the zhiyun lab 3. Any idea if those would pair well with an fs700? They seem like they may compared to current options.
I'm just bringing it up because you may be one of the few people with interest/insight. Also I'm on edge about getting an fs700.

Fingers x’d GH5 will have an update for HDMI export for pro res raw. Come on! If the DJI X7 can do it internally the gh5 can export it for external recording. SURELY!

if you look at the white paper on it the data rate isn't that high... so i don't see why its not possible, as long as panasonic buys a licence from apple for it.... but im no expert on hdmi/data rates

I think this is the main reason you would want to buy the upcoming 4k blackmagic pocket cinema camera. Wayyy cheaper than all the other raw cameras that are currently out

I have question:
I am a Film school student and in the meanwhile I am trying to get a nice reel for the future.
For this term I have a PSA project and I am planing to rent a Canon C300 to shoot it, just to get a good impressive dynamic range, different texture of the picture (Cinematic look) and learning more about Canon C300, My question is: I don't have the budget for renting a recorder Shogun to get Pro Res, I was wondering if I am not able to shoot on Pro Res, would you recommend to rent C300 for those purposes or I can get them in a lower camera as well?
FYI: apart of the camera I am going to get everything for free through the School that I am studying. I really like to shoot with something more serious and bigger than my Canon 5D mark iV or a Sony A7 iii.

Do you know if the fan noise from ANY of the recorders has a tendency to interfere with recording sessions? ( adds noise to microphones wherever they may be placed , but especially if placed near the camera.)
the burning question I have is: are you shooting in LOG? Should you? I shot in a modified cinegamma2 and in FCPX it initially came out looking like poo. Had to massage it to look good. I'm told you use ProReRAW in large part also to take advantage of HDR, which would of course require shooting in LOG. Thoughts?
What Picture Profile are the best for shooting ProRes RAW and Cinema DNG on FS700?
a newbie question, when using prores raw with all its flexibility, does it still matter to output 8 bits or 10 bits? i would imagine raw kind of replaces the flexibility of 10-bit

any sata3 ssd will work. sata3 is not new standard (widely adopted in PC scene since 2010)
Can you tell me what you use to connect the external monitor to the camera? An articulating arm ? Hot shoe to 1/4 inch? A cage? I have a sony a7iii
