Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.
    Directed by: Marielle Heller
Written by: Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster
Inspired by the article "Can You Say. . . Hero?" by Tom Junod
    Produced by:
    Youree Henley
    Peter Saraf
    Marc Turtletaub
    Leah Holzer

I don't think Fred Rogers was religious either. I know he loved the Lord and he understood that there is evil in this world. Evil that can make people turn away from God's love and do sad, bad things that hurt others. So, he set out to show and tell about love; God's kind of love in every way he could. Hoping people would turn in the direction of love. The love Jesus has for them, the way we can love each other and the way we should love ourselves :)

Fun Fact: The last scene of the people on the subway singing the theme song actually happened in real life. He was in New York City and he couldn't find a taxi so he went on the subway. He was trying to not get any attention from anyone. There was a diverse crowd and school children. They didn't ask for an autograph or anything, they just sang. That's how wholesome Mr. Rogers is. ( edit: everyone in the comments saying obviously that happened because it’s a biopic about him, well some biopics exaggerate the story, while this is genuine)

I’m from Australia, so I never heard of Mr Rogers, but I watched this movie lastnight and it made me wish I grew up watching his show. He seemed to be just about the most nicest, caring, kind-hearted person, from what I’ve learnt about him and his show. And reached out to a lot of kids (and adults) in need, emotionally/mentally. Just like the movie shows, with the character of Lloyd. How to deal with his emotions in a good and positive way. Especially when it comes to anger. Sometimes holding on can be more harmful for ourselves, than letting go.

I moved to Pittsburgh, and one summer I did some research on Fred Rogers to try and chase down a rumor around town. I didn't ever find confirmation the rumored thing had happened.
What I did discover, startlingly, was that of every childhood icon I'd ever looked into in detail, Fred's the only one where when I pulled back the layers, there was just more Fred behind the scenes. The man he portrayed on the screen was, apparently, just a direct reflection of him. He had a mission, and he pursued it, and in a way, I think he succeeded.

I love this because I grew up watching him almost everyday. I loved watching his show so much and brings so much nostalgia and even as sad as the death of Kobe Bryant is, he made a great impact as well, there was just nothing but pure love emanating through this man for every human high and low, skinny and fat. When he died the world truly lost a jewel.
