Like others... I have the same fixture and used your instructions to replace my cartridge . Thanks and gave you a sub. I'll keep an eye out for your posts. I despise paying someone to do something I can do.
I love your attitude, despise paying someone for something we can (learn to) do!
Have the exact same faucet and your instructions worked like a charm. The cartridge, by the way, was a Moen 1225. It cost me $23 in spring 2024.
Thanks for the help. I just had faucet with a tiny drip, but would have had to buy 2 new faucets so that they matched. Instead, I followed your instructions and fixed it myself for $25. I am one of those do-it-yourself type of ladies, but did not know how to disassemble the faucet. With your help, it was easy. Thanks!!
Yep, it works the same for women! I'm glad it worked for you and saved you some money and headaches.
Thank you for explaining everything thoroughly for a newbie 👍🏼 I’ve recently been trying to fix things myself rather than always calling someone in. You just saved me $300 on a Seattle plumber! 👊🏼🙌🏼
Very clear and easy to follow video. My cartridge change went flawlessly! 0:05
Glad it helped!
Very professionally explained step-by-step. It's a different story if you can fix it by yourself or not. But this clip was very helpful. Thank you so much for uploading this type of informative videos.
Very helpful thank you. I have the same Moen faucet so I thought this would be easy, but the 21-year old faucet had hard deposits inside the cartridge pipe, and it took two hours with various tools to pry the old one out. At one point I contemplated writing off the old faucet and buying a new one, but my Scottish blood prevailed.
Your advice towards the end about having the right part saved me grief. The store that I would have gone to by default had the wrong one, as I could see from their website picture, so I went to another place, that had the right one.
Thanks again; well done.
I love your DIY nature!
This video was a huge help. Especially the small but important details like the one part that has the tab which needs to hook over the back to go on and off correctly, how to use the plastic tool, the fact that the tabs on the cartridge need to be aligned in such a way as to allow the clip to pass through, etc. I'm sure I would not have been able to replace my cartridge without your help Thank you!
Thanks Russ! It's great to hear that it was helpful!
awesome info, esp when you showed us an issue when closing it and then pointed it out. real troubleshoot; can't ask for more than this. thx
Thanks! I’d rather people see potential problems than try to cover them up.
Thanks Daddio! You did a great job patiently guiding us through it.
Very instructive. Love the step by step directions with the running commentary as I’m not a particularly gifted home repair person. So, now I’m on my way to get the necessary part and we’ll see how much I learned!
You'll do great! I have faith in you!
Thank you!!!! I'm not handy but this video made it so easy. Step by step.
Thanks so much for your step by step instructions! I am going to attempt this myself and really impress my husband!!
I think that's a great idea! Contact Moen and see if you can get the cartridge for free, as they guarantee their faucets. Replacement parts may be obtained by calling 1-800-289-6636 (Canada 1-800-465-6130), or by writing to Moen Incorporated, 25300 Al Moen Drive, North OImsted, OH 44070-8022. Proof of purchase (original sales receipt) from the original consumer purchaser must accompany all warranty claims.
Thank you very much! It is your 15 minutes, which saves my hours of time.
Thank you! That made my day!
Hi Mark, hope you are still available for a question, I am a very senior lady with a husband that used to be able to do all his own electrical and plumbing, but since his dementia , he has not been able to do anything like this anymore, does not know how or what tool to use or how they operate, so I am trying to figure all this out myself with the help of your RUclips video. We went to get the replacement cartridge, but they wouldn't give us the replacement part without the old part, so home we went again. Now I have been able to follow all your steps up to the 11:58 min. part where the the top part of the cartridge is exposed, I can pull it up about half an inch freely and the screw can turn also, but then I can feel that something metal by the sounds of it is stopping it from coming out, I have pulled and pulled on it, but it is definitely something hard that is stopping it from coming out, as I said, for about half to one inch it will pull up and then solid stop. Is there something that you can tell me for a suggestion , that I might be doing wrong, as you showed that little square white tool that comes with the new cartridge, I don't have that of course, as I don't have the new cartridge yet, Moen has this lifetime warranty, that it will replace your cartridge for free when you bring in the old one, so am really hoping you have a suggestion for me to get this "sucker" out of there, many thanks. Nancy.
It’s really hard to diagnose without seeing it, but if something’s stuck it’s likely a broken piece of rubber O ring or a hard piece of mineral deposit. The tool only breaks the cartridge free, it doesn’t pull it out. The risk scoring the inside of the faucet if you force it out, but that’s the route I would take. I would keep pulling but realize it might cause damage (or already be damaged). It could also be fine.
@@AverageMe Thank you for your reply, since your reply, I managed to pull out the old cartridge and put in a new one, it was a matter of having that little square white plastic part that goes on the screw and got that of course with the new cartridge. Then was putting things back together, but everything was loose, it wasn't fitting properly, so took it all apart again, and now couldn't get the new cartridge out, kept trying to twist that little plastic part back and forth hoping it would be sitting in the way that it would then come out, but no luck. So, ended up calling a plumber, who came on monday, I ended up showing him how to use that little white square nut on the screw, and told him that it has to do with that being in a particular position for the cartridge to come out. Which after him pulling on it so hard I thought he would break the faucet right out of the sink, then showed him that method again, and he did try it, and it did work this time. He put in a new cartridge and it didn't work either , water was just running out. So, he said better get a new faucet , which we ended up doing, and all is fine now, just abit more money then initially planned, but all is well, and I thank you for your video.
Great helpful video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Exactly what I needed. Perfect step by step
This was great Mark, thanks! I’ll be subscribing for sure.
You forgot to replace the steel washer, or maybe I missed it in this video somehow. I know that you removed it in the disassembly and even made a cautionary statement about not losing it, but I didn't see you put it back on... It's probably me.
Thanks for the video. It was a great help, even to a mechanically adept person as myself!
Rich
I currently have a leaking bathroom faucet, this video has shown me how to repair it myself. I hope when I go to purchase the cartridge that piece comes with it.
I have this problem right now , I was just going into replace the faucet since it’s old but I may try this ,but man that is a lot of parts / pieces to take out for a small leak ,thank you got this video it was very informative and helpful ,
Well, it' probably less work than replacing the entire faucet, and there's a great feeling of satisfaction when you complete this project.
Very detailed and thorough. You are awesome
Thanks for the great tutorial. I have a crystal handle faucet but going to assume they utilize the same cartridge. Ordered 2 through your link 😉
Excellent video, good tips, 5 stars.
Thanks Mark.
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this instructional video.
Thank you very much.
Thank you for providing this sir !!
Very thorough and helpful. Thanks!
Thanks! Good luck with your repair
Thank you sir, helped me out at work
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! 👍
Worked great, thank you!
Great video! Very helpful
Sir you tube video is a big help. Thanks
Geat video. Well done and very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks Scott!
Thank you very much! This helped a lot.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for letting me know
Brilliant. Thanks. I also discovered that the leaks may only come from a loose grey plastic screw in piece. 🍺
Very nice job on the video. Appreciate it!
Thanks Paul
Good video - I have slightly different Moen model. Failed for me because the screw going into the top of the cartridge would not budge. The entire cartridge turned down inside the faucet. Sadly, I had to replace with a current faucet which is a piece of junk. This was an excellent faucet for many years.
I had the same issue with that screw, but years ago I had bought a hammer drill for concrete drilling. The hammer drill with a Phillips bit made short shrift of the stuck screw.
Good job
very organized job!
Thanks Giovanni!
Amazing job. Thanks so much!!!
Thank you! Good luck with your repairs!
@@AverageMe good job sir,thanks
Gracias very helpful!!
Por nada
Wonderful instructions. Thank you!
Thank SA
Merci beaucoup !
je t'en prie
Thanks so much for this!!! I recently purchased a house and the master bath sink is leaking on the hot water side. I've turned the water off and will be taking it apart today. I'm sure it's a Moen, but the tag is missing. But based on how it looks and the base, I'm pretty sure it's a Moen.
If you can, remove the cartridge and take it to the store with you! Don't make the same mistake I did and have to go back.
Hi, great video! Do you happen to know if there is a specific cartridge for Moen bathroom sinks or are the cartridges universal? Would you happen to know what the name/number of the cartridge would be? Any help would be appreciated!!
They are not universal. You will need to make sure you have the correct cartridge. I took mine to the hardware store to compare.
We are struggling with the Alan screw. All of our Alan wrenches seem to be too wide or too thin. Could you please share what size you used?
Unfortunately can’t , because I don’t recall. But a good set of allen wrenches is relatively inexpensive and you’ll be glad you have it when you need it.
how do i know what cartridge to find for my sink? i have no idea what brand or serial number it is to look up replacement parts
Does anyone know what size Allen Wrench to use?
7/64 worked for me in case anyone else is wondering.
Hey, mine does not have the allen key when you remove the decorative layer I have sort screw with no way for taking it off
thank you
Hope it helps!
Here is a tip to the wise...about twice a year, go to every sink and toilet in your house and give the shutoff valves 3x all the way off/on twisties to keep them freed up and seating correctly. They can & do corrode inside over time and cause you major headaches if you ever need to turn them off in a hurry. Ask me how I know....
Pretty good advice! Of course, the solution is to turn off the main water valve to the entire house, but that negates the very practical purpose of a shutoff valve.
Happy for all those this helped, but I just inherited a 20 year old sink that life had happened too.
Tons of mineral build up, doesn't just magically pop out...
That's why the plastic tool is included, to "break" the cartridge loose from the cylinder. The faucet in the video was about 13 years old when I shot that.
Thanks buches
That grey threaded piece would not come out. Loosened it with channel lock pliers while doing some minor damage to the piece since it's plastic. But after it loosened up a bit it just spins eternally and won't come out. Tried death gripping it with those pliers and pulling with all my strength. Nothing
Hmmmmmm🤔
I’m trying to pull out cart but doesn’t want to come out!!! It’s acting like it hits something to keep it from coming out…
Am I missing something??
I'd guess the O ring is so broken or torn up that pieces are getting stuck and making it difficult to remove. If it were me I'd use a little brute force, but I don't want to give you bad advice and ruin your faucet.
@@AverageMe yeah that’s what I thought too but being that the faucet is 22 yrs old I just replaced it.
Thanks for your reply I appreciate it..👍🏽😁
I'm kinda stuck at 2:55 there's nothing to grab onto not sure how you can clip onto that... it seemed to have made it cut(why...?) just right before he grabed into that clip... and no clue how he did it..
very important missing step is you have to use something sharp to poke from the bottom
how are we supposed to know what size our cartridge is? I ordered one from Amazon and I'm crossing my fingers that it's the right size. I don't know how to tell
Is there another link because the link you provided in the bio is not useful no more. plz and thank you
what if I can’t unscrew the screw behind the decorative blue/red piece? 😢 any tips to get it loose?
We are having the same issue. Did you ever figure it out?
what's the part number pf the replacement cartridge?
You'll have to check your particular cartridge, as they're all a little different. Like I sad in the video, I bought the wrong one that looked very close except for the placement of one hole.
7 minutes and 30 seconds they make a socket also a wrench to fit that piece, but good job
Yes they do. An adjustable ("Crescent") wrench would also work. Actually, the needle nose pliers is not a good option, I just had it handy so I used it to demonstrate.
@@AverageMe I do understand sometimes you have to use what you have at your disposal LOL you have a wonderful weekend what's left of it anyway I hope you're somewhere warm LOL
@@jamesabroomeiii7552 Haha! Nope! Heading to Boston!
What if the handle has come off the moen bathroom sink? Fixable?
It wold depend upon why it came off. If the handle is actually broken, you might be better off simply replacing the faucet. The type in the video are probably under $70 new. You might be able to find the handle part. If the faucet is otherwise good, just use the new handle from the new faucet purchase and replace it on your existing faucet (you might as well stick in the new cartridge while you're at it).
I thought the cold water is always to the right. Earlier you said hot water to the right, cold to the left. Then after you got the faucet fixed you said the opposite. Cold right, hot left. I was a bit confused. Otherwise, good vid.
Did I say that? I guess we need a new rhyme like "Lefty loosy righty tighty"
At 2:15 the pain started for me
Having trouble getting the cartridge to come out.
I'm guessing it's a torn up O-ring, like in mine. That's probably getting stuck. You might have to take a pliers to encourage it.
@AverageMe thanks I ended up getting it out. It did take encouraging and some words to get it to let go. Thanks for the video made my day
is that a moen 4700?
I don’t know. I no longer live there
Name of part?
Cartridge
left how information on how to pop the handle off after you take the set screw out broke my faucet terrible video
