@J-Bo-hr9zp you will need to turn off the main water supply and also change the valves under the sink if you can’t get them to shut off completely. Sorry for the bad news.
A couple of suggestions: 1) Before you do anything else, pull the drain shut so nothing can accidentally go down it, like that screw that holds the knob in place, or one of those little springs. 2) Before you replace the knob, turn the water back on and check for leaks. If it leaks, tighten the white outer piece. THEN replace the knob.
One personal note: I used to fix scuba regulators and valves for a living and one thing I absolutely will not do is use channel locks or any kind of pliers on a chromed part. I always use a wrench instead to protect the chrome.
I have this exact faucet and used your instructions. I would like to add that I did not have to remove that little plastic retainer ring before removing the main cover. It was plastic and it was starting to break trying to break it loose. I just left it in place and took off the main cover and it worked fine. I thought this might help someone else.

My retainer ring was different, it had a band to grip in the lower outside. But everything came off and went on in the same order as your demonstration. Had to change out a few more things since I had it open and available. Delta sells bathroom sink repair kits at Home Depot for about $16 and they contain all the plastic parts, washers, gaskets, and springs. Thanks.

I have the same thing. Is working to turn it. Very hard because the pushing pole behind it. It’s kind of blocking my plier to turn around.

Excellent video! I found this after my first attempt at fixing my faucet (it was still leaking). Didn't realize there were springs and gaskets that needed to be replaced too... they came with the replacement cartridge but it wasn't obvious where they fit so I left them in the package.
I know the basics of repairing a leaky faucet, but never hurts to watch the video. Thanks a bunch.

I just fixed our faucet. One tip is to put the spring and gasket on a small Allen wrench and hold them with your fingers. Put the tip of the Allen wrench in the slot in the faucet and slide them down into place. Wide part of the spring facing the faucet with the gasket on top of the smaller portion of the spring. The long bar of a thin Allen wrench is what I pointed into the slot of the faucet, then slid the spring and gasket right into place.

I just did it!!! The tip on using an Allen wrench worked great, and it took maybe 15 minutes. I was trying to get the rubber caps to fit down into the holes, but soon realized that the ball thing will push them down naturally and form the seal. That was the only issue I had, but that was my error.

I fixed my faucet using a multi-tool as shown in this video. The “compression ring” was loose and tightening it less than a quarter turn resolved my issue. Thanks!

thanks! I also followed some of the comments suggesting the use of plumbers grease, which I only used conservatively, making sure to not get any inside the inlet holes or the holes in the ball.. 20+ year old faucet works like new.

Highly recommend this video. Just replaced the 25 year old rubber seats on my Delta bathroom faucet using this video as a guide. The dripping faucet is now fixed. The only variation was the round external cap that one removes after taking off the knob, required use of a pipe wrench (I'm sure there is a better tool) to grip it at the base rather than being able to use a nut wrench to twist from the top. Suspect Delta updated the design to minimize damage when removing the cap.

I was literally brought to tears trying to do this part because I don't have a pipe wrench and the wrenches I was using were just not cutting it and kept slipping off despite gripping them with all the strength I could manage. Immense frustration, painful hands, mangled faucet, but this comment convinced me that I just need the right tool, thank you.

And I followed them to the letter but I must have dropped the ball somewhere because after I replaced the washers and springs and re-assembled the faucet, it seems to leak even worse than before. Is there a certain orientation that the ball must align to? I've got it with the diamond points at north-south like in your video and I even tried reversing it 180° and it's still leaking. Is it possible that the valve ball might have worn down enough that it doesn't seal properly? Unless you have a hail mary insta-fix I guess my next step will be getting the full repair kit with the valve ball instead of just the washers and gaskets. I'll be subscribing and checking out your other videos once I've taken care of this issue. Thanks again.
I think that’s your next logical step too. You could try to give more tension to the inner plastic ring as that’s the thing that makes the pressure that seals the ball against the seats. But if that doesn’t work or if it’s already as tight as it’s going to go you’re next step it definitely to replace the guts all together. Let me know if you have any more issues and I’ll try to help.

great video. I would recommend putting a washcloth or some TP over the drain so you do not drop any of those small parts in the sink and lose them down the drain.

With delta single lever faucets, the springs and seats are the cause for a drippy faucet, is that correct?

My Delta was slightly different from the one you demonstrated on, but it was close enough for me to figure it out (still a single handle). Shoulda taken it apart BEFORE I went to the hardware store so I could have gotten the right stuff the first time, but that's my bad. Thanks! Only took me about 15 minutes not counting the extra trip!

Noticed that the undersink valves closed right up with no problem. I always find them stuck. Which is a whole different problem.

I've had a leaky faucet for years. It only leaked when it was left in hot or cold position so I tolerated it and made sure it was always left in the middle. SWMBO always felt the need to leave it anywhere but center. At $75.00 per visit with 2/10 homeownwers insurance, this fix should cost less than $10.00. I dreaded calling them so I kept putting it off. Now I'm so glad I did. With your video, I'll fix it tomorrow by myself. Thanks.

Great Video! I just greased all my faucets today as they can get tight after use for awhile. Do it every 6-8 months. I grease the ball especially around the stem which protudes and connects to the handle. It improves the play and makes the faucet feel like new. After maintaining these faucets the first time i never take off the plastic O-ring. I just take off head with an adjustable wrench. Also when putting the head back on just tighten with hand and then go a 1/4 inch with your wrench. You will be happy you did this the next time your maintaining this faucet. Cheers!!

I found the parts at Hime Depot.
They are Delta parts
#RP77737G which came with two larger springs and two small springs ir RP4993G At least for that faucet you recorded. I happen to have exactly the same ones.
It contains the two small springs and rubber grommets.
Easy fix. Ten minutes.
But without your video maybe a lot lot longer. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks again. Keep them coming.

Yay! Exactly what I needed. The seats were visibly flattened and worn. I have rubber stains on my fingers from handling the old seats, but no more leak. The new seat and springs came with a set for a different style of Delta faucet. Don't know what to do with them.
Toss them unless you want to save them for a rainy day.

Hey nice helpful video…one tip to those who may have a slightly newer faucet. When you put the Death Star looking ball back into the faucet, put it back in so that the small long cut goes in the right where the little metal protrusion sticks into the opening & orientate the plastic coupling into the detent on the left. This will allow for it to rotate properly. When you put the faucet handle back on it will seem loose. Dont over tighten it and don’t worry. When you turn the water back on every thing will tighten back up. Don’t put the aerator back on until after testing bc a bunch of dark gunk will come out bc of the installation process.
