Lovely advice. And a hell of an interesting song! Ringo's hypnotic beat, unseen anywhere else, complimented by Paul's pulsating bass. Almost seems like prototypical rave music.
This was SO MUCH FUN. If only because the playing was pretty simple, but I had to enliven to mix to hold your interest(s). I really love panning and editing across the aural landscape. This was such a fun sandbox.
And yes, I stole the tape loops from the originals. Some parts can't be recreated with justice; you just need to go to the source.
Finally, that backwards guitar solo was a hell of a thing to learn. I slowed down all 4 segments, reversed them, slowed them down, and eventually arrived at the right sound.
Oh, and that outro piano is so odd. I caved and bought the Abbey Road "Ms. Mills" piano VST, which will come in handy again on "With a Little Help" and "Rocky Raccoon." I absolutely didn't bother with a note-for-note on the piano part, just went for the right spirit.
Enjoy! My vacation is coming to a close, so I hope you've enjoyed my productivity of late!

The backwards solo😮
Just like when this song broke new ground, this is seriously a ground breaking cover
Thanks for introducing me to Michael’s channel Sam. I’m gobsmacked. Incredible. You guys kill it every time.
Sam and Michael, you are both awesome. I watch every video you make as soon as it comes out! I play along with the videos and have learned so much.
George played the guitar solo according to the new deluxe edition
He might as well try doing Revolution 9, this was superb.
Your best recreation yet. Anyone who has the balls to attempt a recreation of Tomorrow Never Knows is to be respected. The fact that you succeeded so admirably garners double respect.
Holy crap. This is literally the original track without the vocals. Outstanding as always Michael 👏
Except for the tape loops, those are way off with the way they just abruptly end instead of fading in and out like in the original
The rhythm section is so entrancing. It really grips you and holds you within that pocket the entire time.
Not being a drummer i always tried to envision -- imagine or picture -- how Ringo played and got that drum sound on this track - now after decades and decades of wondering i know -- that's why i love your videos, its the closest thing to being in the studio, at the Beatles recording sessions and seeing how they did it -- thanks again for another stellar video presentation!
Ringo is a South Paw. How does Ringo get his sound? If you are Right Handed sit down on a LH Kit. Your respect for Ringo's Massive talent will climb even higher. My guess is Ringo's studio work Pre Beatles must have been very fresh sounding no matter what the session was for.
A great way to anchor yourself into how Ringo gets his iconic sound and other quirks on any song is to remember that he is left hand dominant. He spent his earliest years learning on stage using other drummer's kits that were always in the standard layout. He also had no real formal training with an instructor leading him into the orthodoxy (thank goodness). By the time he owned his own kit, there wasn't a thought in his mind about setting up left handed. So up until mid 90s he always played the rack tom with his left hand and floor tom with his right. If he ever had to play either tom with both hands, he'd always hit left handed first. Getting out of his own way is what leads to all the tasty tumbles and gaps in his swing that define his sound. So, it is standard for him to strongly play this song left handed while maintaining his right hand washing the ride cymbal.
I'm also a lefty playing a right hand arranged drum kit. This song was a bit of a challenge because the flowing, nebulous aspects try to pull you off tempo. You want to speed up. You think you are ahead or behind and then suddenly you feel locked in for a second, just for it to get away from you again. It took me a few tries. Ringo got it right the first time and every time.
"...Of the beginning, of the beginning, of the beginning, of the beginning..."
This is tied with A Day in the Life for best reproduction! Excellent job!
The Beatles were wwwwaaaaaayyyyy ahead of their time, absolute music geniuses!✌😏
Never ever scene a recreation of this song outside of drums, let alone one that sounds exactly like the original. You sir went above and beyond on this one!
My band plays this too. Dedicated to my best friend who loves this song. I wish he was alive to see this video.
Turn off your mind
Relax and float down stream
It is not dying
It is not dying
Lay down all thoughts
Surrender to the void
It is shining
It is shining
That you may see
The meaning of within
It is being
It is being
That love is all
That love is everyone
It is knowing
It is knowing
That ignorance and hate
May mourn the dead
It is believing
It is believing
But listen to the colour of your dream
It is not living
It is not living
All play the game
Existence to the end
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
Of the beginning
If this song does not convince you that Ringo Starr was (in his prime) one of the Top 3 drummers on the PLANET, nothing will. Well Done Michael.
Outstanding rendition.Reminds me of the summer of '66 when I was 10 years old. 👍😃
Tomorrow never knows is a psychedelic anthem
Mike: The level of detail here is amazing...the bass guitar plucking is perfect; those brief organ blasts; piano swirls and vamp at end....guitar feedback after that great lead lick (which you played forwards to re-create backwards; wow!) made my day!
Keep up the great work. 60 years and still influencing musicians like yourself everywhere!
Of course, we also cannot forget the version of "Tomorrow Never Knows" on Anthology 2 because of the weird John chatter at the beginning of that take (Take 1 that is). But anyways, both the Anthology version and the master version (Take 3, which is what you did) are great anyway. This song also where John really shined in terms of singing through the Leslie speaker.
All I can say is wow. I don't know how you did it. This is the most accurate cover of any Beatles song that I've ever seen.
Yes amazing thanks.
Wow just wow… this cover was absolutely amazing! And wow that guitar solo was on point! Keep it up man!
This is PERFECT!!!!! I don’t know how you’ve gotten this made in the time between this and For No One.
Well that was perfect. Amazing. You never cease to impress. How quickly The Beatles became something other than "The Lads". "Love Me Do" to this in what, 3 years? And how important was Ringo at this point?
Paul sets the tempo, Ringo nails down the Groove. George Martin drives it off the scale. Lennon just Gets is andHarrison understood and probably left after creating several loops. Just cant say enough about George Martin. Thanks for laying this on down.
Well THAT was fun! You met the challenge here for sure! Great!
Spot on. Everything down to the feedback halfway through. I still can't believe this song came out in 1966. Just like much of the Beatles other work, it was very very much ahead of its time. Well done!
I always love to Swim Against The Current as it has made my life exciting...BUTT...as you noted Mike, there are times when it's just plain fun to Float Downstream and let it all go! Brilliant Presentation. I remember my older brother and sister playing this back in the day and my Military Dad, The Colonel, telling them that they were listening to Voo Doo Music🤣! Even at my young age I knew it wasn't Cough Syrup that The Beatles were partaking in😉! Awesome share! Cheers From COW-lumbus, Ohio MOO
Absolutely fantastic! One of the best Beatles full band recreation channels on RUclips!
Are you sure that you're a magician???? No word to praize your amazing cover! Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷
That solo was perfect. I never thought it would be possible to recreate that.
Man you are amazing, perfect in any way, love each and every track you do ! SUPER ! :)
Incredible. Masterpiece again Mr Sokil!
Seems like i am going to like these instrumentals more than the originals with singing. 😊
¡Increíble, perfecto cover, hermano! Saludos.
Absolutely mind blowing nothing else can discribe.Such a song were time has no effect.
I am in awe. I just can’t believe what you managed with this song! One of my favorites.
Wow yet again another perfect cover. Great Job!
That song as well as Strawberry Fields are my favorite Beatle songs of all time. I love the drone sound of Tomorrow Never Knows. I’m looking forward to the New Re-Mastered Beatles Revolver Album.
This is well done! You have captured the essence of the song and making this listener go into a hypnotic trance. That's what "Tomorrow Never Knows" does for me including the Beatles version. I have rewarded your efforts by adding the video onto the Ottawa Beatles Site news page. Look for the September 18, 2022 entry. Cheers Michael. :)
Impressive dedication to learn and reproduce the reverse lead guitar part alone! Excellent job, as always
You've done it again. Another great addition to the back catalogue. Keep them coming
Thank you!! ❤
You are the gold standard when it comes to these videos. I often rely on your videos to get the guitar parts down. I wish I had your talent. Keep on truckin'!
I don’t how you get them done so quick
Pretty ambitious! Nice.
I hoenstly want to cry listening to this, to say that this is amazing would be an understatement.. you did everything so PERFECTLY
would love to see a video on the reversed guitar solos
Yeah, I'd like to see a separate video showing them played forwards!
Yes, please!
You already had my respect with your cover of A Day In The Life, and now you've cemented it even more with this cover. I expected no less from you, man! Fantastic work!!
This is pure perfection!
Amazing job dude!. I wish someday I could listen a 1hr Loop of this song. On YT there are 1hr loops from Mozart, Beethoven and some Beatles songs like "I saw her standing there" but non of this masterpiece.
Absolutely epic. Without question.
You did this omg . You the best
Great job, Michael!🙏😁
Nice! Always cool to see the drum part played correctly :) Would also be interested in how you tuned up the rack and snare to get such a matched sound to the original. I mean I'm sure I know but just curious 😃
You're amazing. Great job!
Ringo and Paul put oneself into a trance.
So cool! Way back when we could only dream of being able to do what you can do. Awesome!
Absolutely mesmerizing!
Always has been and always will be the greatest drums ever
Just listened to both your covers. Amazing. Such a cool and revolutionary song
Superb - you did it justice man! 👍😮
wtf this is literally flawless
Thank you for including and in keeping ALL the details that make this song so special.👍🏻Perfectly done.
I was wondering how you would tackle this one, and now I know. This is delicious and so well done!
I can't say anything more brilliant than what you've done here, or better than everyone's already commented, so I'll change direction.
I know you are a baseball fan. Perhaps you hope, as I do, that some MLB player will use this as their walkup music! (I know I will if I go to another fantasy camp.)
Can you just imagine this blaring over the sound system in a ballpark?
This gives me goosebumps 😂❤❤❤
I especially love your drums 😍
Nice job.
Incredible
Mind Blower. Did it perfectly 👍
Very wild job Mike! I tried this years ago on a tascam 4track multi track recorder. And I wanted to try and create effects using regular cassette recorders. Making loops etc. I couldn't get the right sounds. I didn't have drums either. I also decided to recreate the Anthology version. I got the bass and solo right. I could sing it too. I always meant to get back to it. Instead I began writing psychedelic songs for a concept album. I have a demo on my YT of an original. I put it on there so I wouldn't forget it. I actually wrote it several years before I uploaded that simple demo.
It's not a bad song. It pertains to apocalypsic things that are going on now.
I work overtime. Sheet metal. I need more time to work on songs I wrote. I have lots of them. The multi track recording is fun. Overdub etc. I like to produce my own kind of effects. Nothing really fancy. But there are things around the house that can be used. Look at how they produced that 1930's Radio program, War of the Worlds. Really interesting
amazing work on the sounds and the backwards part! Nice playing
This is awesome
wow that was amazing. Really well done. Congrats.
I'm only sleeping, please. An even more challenging backwards solo.
Exelente! Eres un genio!👌🏻
You even got the feedback coming out of the guitar solo....well done
Mind blowing stunner! 🎸🎹🥁☮️ 11/7/23
Is the A string tuned in C ?
on bass, yep. great catch!
@@MichaelSokil Nice ! Perfect pitch helps 😎
Whoa! Do you think that's what Paul did? Or did he play it in D or A to utilize an open string and then the tape speed was altered? Or did he just play it in C standard tuning? That's what I've always done and now I've gotta go back and re-listen! These videos are SO well done with great attention to detail.
Amazing!!!
Amazing
Fun and ambitious cover! Now you just need a Leslie speaker cabinet in there!
Only thing is that the organ on the original track, unlike the one you played at 0:38, has a slightly slow swelling attack. That small detail makes a world of difference, but your recration is really good regardless.
it’s actually the tape loop that swells in volume - the organ has no swell! ruclips.net/video/5vd511piXDc/видео.htmlsi=vJt4UnOaGPypAgrl
MAGISTRAL
Masterpiece!!! And I'm not just referring to John Lennon!! And the solo???? No loops??? Amazing!!!
Your recreations are nothing short of amazing. Thanks. Did you use some type of reverse reverb effect on the solo? Those sound like the original loops from the real record. How did you isolate them?
Amazingly great!
!!! WOW!!!
really nice dude
The madman... he actually did it.
Super impressive 🔥
Incredible my friend 😮
! I have no words left.
Yes thank you so much you did it
Can't believe I found Mjsokes again, been thinking about him for months
WONDERFUL!!!
This musuc is hot !😊
It's so amazingly 'magical' that should not you playing it, no one would believe this is real !!!
How have you got such effect for emulate reverse record lead guitar?
Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
muito bom meu amigo...
Dude, you fucking nailed it.
first drum loop in music.
Interesting, thank you. Did The Beatles play the tape loop material?
Fabuloso! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent as always Michael although the tambourine would (just before the song ends) go on the half beat then into quick shaking (16th notes?), but I quibble. But what's the deal with the Lucky Strike box? I've read that Geoff Emerick stuffed Ringo's bass drum as well as other sonic diy trickery but haven't heard this one. I know your attention to detail, you put it there for a reason. BTW how about some Rutles in a future video? Thanks for the great channel!
