Before you dis Carl Wilson. Play the riff to Dance Dance Dance and then play the lead which included bending strings like Carl did on a Rickenbacker/12, both live and on the record. Carol Kaye of The Wrecking Crew even said he came in from tour to record guitar tracks. Plus he wrote those riffs. Oh, and do it with heavy gauge strings like they had back in the early '60s.
what works far better than a jangle box is using the Rick-O-Sound jack with two amps. I set the treble pickup to a LAB L5 amp with lots of compression and reverb, place it back in the kitchen, set the bass pickup to an AC15 with a Boss delay, set it in the back of the bedroom hallway. I play in the parlor in the middle of the house and the sound is something to behold! Absolutely awesome. You can use a Y-cord but the Rick-O-Sound unit works much better. It improves the sound of the guitar.
Such a wonderful sound! Whenever I play around with a Rik 12 string in a music shop on those rare occasions they have one in stock, I love the attention I get from people. Mr Tambourine Man and the theme from Friends by The Rembrandts always garner praise.
Wow, you're living my dream. You have all the guitars that I lust. Keep making great videos and keep the dream alive. In the meantime I'll keep working hard at school. Take care.
I absolutely love that sound. I have that same guitar with the 12 saddle bridge. I am 6'3" and 286 lbs and have large hands so this guitar is hard for me to play. Beatle fan to the end.
Removing the pickguard was a great idea. If you own a signature guitar and want it to stay a signature guitar , the last thing you want to do is eventually erase the name with your guitar pick! Nice gear and nice performance of What You're Doing .
That was excellent! I always loved the sound of George's 12 string guitar. I also liked how you played "What You're Doing", the guitar really makes that song. Good job.
Love your playing. Thanks
Yeah, you got it dialed in. The toaster pickups and the Janglebox is the weapon that Roger McGuinn endorses. I had no idea that Brian Wilson has a signature model Ric.
@636117 not true, George acquired this model in New York when the Beatles first visited. The Rickenbacker president went to New York to show them new models and he gave George the 360/12. He used it on A Hard Days Night most notably in 1964. /Beatles nerd
You should check out Carl Wilson more. He was a fine singer, great writer... and his guitar playing had a wonderful feel. I agree with u on the 12 saddle bridge ... and the Jangle Box really gives one clarity and the traditional sound.
The rounded horn model he had was later stolen. He still had the pointed horn 360/12 up until his death. It's last use was on "Fish on the Sand" on Cloud Nine.
Wow-someone has a Carl Wilson signature guitar and takes the signature off!!! That's the sound of "Dance Dance Dance" "Help me Rhonda" "Please let me wonder" .....plus it's the guitar Carl used for the legendary TAMI show. What can you say except De gustibus non est disputandum.
AWESOME! I wish I could play half as well as you....... btw, Once you played the first notes, I also thought of the Byrds........ Nice throwing it in at the end. Love that Guitar n the Beatles
Absolutely not stupid, you're just not into the BB's as much as you are into the Beatles/Byrds. In fact the early BB sound was based on Jaguars and Strats, but like Roger McGuinn, after a Hard Day's Night, Carl suddently appeared with a Rick 12. You can see him use it live on humanoidboogie's clip of the BB's live in London. I'm also very into McGuinn /Harrison and have just done a 12 string gig where we did Handle with care and Tambourine man! Congrats on your clip and playing-clean and sweet.
That's a nice sounding guitar you have and you play it well too. I've been listening to guitars online and judging them (not very scientific at all I know). I have to say a relatively new Rickenbacker sounds "heavenly", with a nice ring. A Gibson Les Paul sounds raw, nostalgic which I don't really care for. Finally , a Fender Strat sounds smooth, concise if not spectacular.
Despite the camera's microphone, it still sounds like a good old Rickenbacker! If you're more a Harrison fan, have you ever looked into the 360/12v64 or 360/12c63?
Hello, Nice to meet you!! I am a Japanese, Attention to the sound of your guitar is great. I am 26 years old. I like The beatles and The byrds. One question. What will sound better to use a compressor on the guitar? What is your amp? Fender or vox? Sorry unfamiliar with English. Thank you for the wonderful video=)
Thank you for the Ric/Janglebox demo, JGarcia658. Sounded great! Quick question for you... I'm thinking of modifying my 360/12 by installing a 12 saddle bridge and toasters. Did you purchase the toasters from Rickenbacker directly or did you get them off Ebay? And, do you find the 12 saddle bridge makes a significant difference as far as intonation is concerned?
Maybe if Epiphone company makes 12 string guitars. Although nothing beats Rickenbacker jangly sound. Rickenbacker uses toaster pick-ups and I'm not sure whether Epiphone would use those type of pick-ups.
Wow. Carl Wilson's band has done a heck of a lot more for music than Roger McGuinn's. Wilson's Rick playing may not be as "hip" as McGuinn's, but it's pretty good.
Thanks for the info. May I ask you (I don't know much about guitar gears) what does that 'Jangle-Box' do? I gooled and found the UK distribuator, and I want to order one. How do you connect it? From the RIC to the JB and then to the amplifier, or? From 'No Genius Peter E'.
@TDubsesbueno You are simply incorrect. George's "original" Rick 12-string has the sharper horns, and body binding, with the classic black knobs. THIS model is the one presented to him by a radio station in 1965, and which was subsequently stolen from the AR storage locker (along with his Tennessean, and Paul's "cavern" bass. Just admit you're wrong and be done with it.
Not that I know of but there is a 12 string pedal which would sound great with a six string version but if not i'm not sure. Maybe buy a 12 string version as well then you can play both
Cheers, I'll look into the pedal. As much as I love my Ricky I won't be buying the 12 string version of the same model, my next guitar is going to be a gretsch
The Singing DJ ahah, Id happily buy your Rick, I really want one. I f you want a Gretsch, I can help you get a good one, I f I buy your Rick you will have more money for a gretsch
Man, your guitar is epic, its not evryone that have one like this...Beatifull, take care of this baby.

What's wrong with Carl Wilson
Carl did have a 12 string Rickenbacker. He played in the TAMI 64' concert. You can hear it in "Dance Dance Dance".

Excellent presentation of the Rickie 360/12. The sound this guitar never lets you down, classic 60's style sound. Thanks!
Such a wonderful sound! Whenever I play around with a Rik 12 string in a music shop on those rare occasions they have one in stock, I love the attention I get from people.
Mr Tambourine Man and the theme from Friends by The Rembrandts always garner praise.
Could you sell me the Carl Wilson plate?
I remember watching this video when it was new. Still a very cool demonstration.
Such an amazingly gorgeous guitar, great video, amazing playing. Thanks for posting!

I did have a fender strat 12....really small board!
I wish i could have one someday!
Great demo - love your playing. 12 string rickenbackers are some of my favourite guitar sounds in music - and you're playing some of the best riffs!!
Removing the pickguard was a great idea. If you own a signature guitar and want it to stay a signature guitar , the last thing you want to do is eventually erase the name with your guitar pick! Nice gear and nice performance of What You're Doing .
No fan of Carl?
May Chtulu spare your soul.
Oh, beautiful guitar! And bravo on the cover! Gorgeous twelve string, really is.
That was excellent! I always loved the sound of George's 12 string guitar. I also liked how you played "What You're Doing", the guitar really makes that song. Good job.

Thanks very much for the info! I'll check POTR's out for them.
Hope you'll post some more demos... they sound great!
wow amazing beautiful sound...!!!
you seem like such a genuinely nice person. youtube seems filled with unfriendly people sometimes. glad to find your video.
Thanks! My next guitar was going to be a upgraded tele. But i think that the 12 is gonna open a new door on my writing! Thank u very much!
Yeah, you got it dialed in. The toaster pickups and the Janglebox is the weapon that Roger McGuinn endorses. I had no idea that Brian Wilson has a signature model Ric.
NIce demo, man. Sounds great. I don't think I have much use for a 12-string but you have me thinking!

Great vid Mr. Clapton
@JGarcia658 Carl Wilson was a wonderful musician; what a voice!
I totally agree. He's a RUclips showbiz superstar even though he's yet to realize it!
Hey Mr...... thanks for your vid, very helpful and I liked the demo music
Cheers...:)
Sounds great
You should be proud to have a Carl Wilson Ricky.
Hey Man, that is waaaaaay cool!
I have that same sgt.peppers calender in the back!
Despite the camera's microphone, it still sounds like a good old Rickenbacker! If you're more a Harrison fan, have you ever looked into the 360/12v64 or 360/12c63?
Classic Rock Kid but harrison also played that one (360/12 "new")
@metallicaLP82
i think its a french or spanish/portugese accent.
What a sound!!
nice demo, man!
educational. did George play a 12 string on the original recording? Could you do a similar video on the Epiphone Casino? I enjoyed this one.
@ADPFUCKER Ehh, no the song is played on a Rickenbacker 360/12
Oh that sound !!! Perfect !!
I love how you say "resonance"
maybe, you should sketch George Harrison's signature on the pick guard?
Great job
you should post a video of your configuration
Great gear ! You should have put the camera closer to the amp, but it's nice !
@lifestraight No i am not saying that he should have left the pickguard on.
@JGarcia658 Ok, I will NEVER be a skilful guitar player, but I'll order one anyway & connect it to my 360/12. Thanks for info.

hey niko, wanna go bowling?
DREAM TONE.
I want this guitar sooo bad

@JGarcia658
wrell, sometimes it takes some time.
i wish i could have had them as a part of my youth.
but the 90s just weren't the 60s.
what would be a vintage tailpiece for a ric 360/12?
@TDubsesbueno You are simply incorrect. George's "original" Rick 12-string has the sharper horns, and body binding, with the classic black knobs. @namnoiz Ur saying he should've left the pickguard on there?
You can really play!
awesome job, how much was your rickenbacker?
Nice ...
I think the sound is much better without the jangel box. Great song "What your doing "
What is Skwisgaar from Dethklok doing with a 12 string rickenbacker?
@ADPFUCKER What song are you talking about then?
in the back of the room - there is an cover of magical mystery tour record :D:D:D
Those things are quite expensive, aren't they? I think around 1500-2000 dollars for some of them, right?
janglebox sounded good
@lifestraight Who's on first?
Not quite true. George got this version in '65, and used it for studio work & tours that year (and I think '66 too).
Hello
I have the same model but 6 string. Is it possible for me to get it converted to a 12 string?
Not that I know of but there is a 12 string pedal which would sound great with a six string version but if not i'm not sure. Maybe buy a 12 string version as well then you can play both

No, no! He's a vampire from Transylvania! All the best vampires play Rickenbackers!!
Can't see you hands on the Byrds tune at the very end!!! Grrrrrrr.
Man, your guitar is epic, its not evryone that have one like this...Beatifull, take care of this baby.
I like your voice. No kidding.
"ReekenBacher... twehlv streeng geeter."
cool
It's good if you want to sound like the Byrds.
jgarcia658 you hear the 12 strings guitar at the begginin´of california girls
@pedrez
thats a french accent.
this is a pretty expensive guitar, what is the mystery 5th knob for?
How could you not like Carl Wilson ?
nice)
how do you string your 12? bass string first or treble?
i think he is from spain or south america
