Information war against Russia

  • There is a lot of talk about Russian information warfare but less about how the West can influence the discourse in Russia. In this video I argue that the West should not use the same tools as Russia, because we want to achieve the opposite results.
I then discuss the role that RUclips plays in Russia, and why Russian RUclips channels may be worth supporting.
    0:00 Intro
    1:04 Russian information war
2:39 Why the West can't do the same
3:48 Goals with Western information war

6:46 The role of RUclips in Russia
    8:34 Russian RUclips channels
9:08 Russia tries to silence RUclipsrs

There are a lot of problems with impersonation scams right now, where people take my thumbnail picture and pretend to be me in the comments section. Typically they will ask you to contact them on another platform like Telegram or WhatsApp. Please don’t do that. It’s not actually me.
If you want to get in contact with me outside of RUclips, then Mastodon is my preferred social media platform (@anderspuck@krigskunst.social). I'm also somewhat active on LinkedIn. You can also find my email address on my website, but please notice that I get a lot of email, and it's hard to keep up.

Unfortunately many people in the democratic world have no idea that Russian information warfare is a thing. It is everywhere but is almost never mentioned in the media. Education about this, how it works and what to look out for could be a good start.

Democracy in the West be like "Choose between Mussolini and Thatcher". Awesome.
We hear 24/7 about Russian bots but never about hasbara trolls, "manufacturing consent", the military media complex, Assange's solitary confinement isn't talked nearly as much as Navalny's Siberian vacation, etc.

Its a small team of Russians who is against Russian imperialism just walking around making surveys on hard hitting questions. Its saddening since its a window into the state of Russia. When the truth about Covid-19 terror is Europe is going to be discussed, as governments were forced to buy vaccines in the hundreds of billions of dollars? When the truth about over 30,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza in few months will be front and center in MSM, and Israel sanctions proportionally?

I like Vlad Vexler's channels and have learned lots from him. Vlad has repeatedly talked about the need to "politicize" Russians and Russia but I can't remember him ever saying how that might be done, but perhaps I've just missed it. Anders' suggestions seem practical and useful. I'm relieved to hear some tangible strategies that could be implemented and amplified towards that end.

I did think he provided some insight into the situation inside Russia but then wondered what his sources are, how well connected is he?? It's also weird how slavishly devoted some folks are in his comments. "Oh Vald without your intellectual guidance I'd not be able to dress myself in the morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!" Hahaha Anyway it's good to listen to different voices so I'll continue to watch his stuff from time to time. Cheers.

The line from Upton Sinclair, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it," applies here. But in the case of Russian trolls, the situation may be that their lives also depend on speaking with Putin's voice.
The true information that we need to provide them is one defeat after another that the Ukrainians administer to them with our aid.
