    Thank you for sharing info on the Godox CS-50D. I've been trying to think of ways to avoid bouncing on the ceiling also because of the unreliable/inconsistent white I'm bouncing from. Before seeing this, I was also wondering if I could mount up a true white bounce card on the light or rig up something like foam core at the end of a dowel stick where the bounce umbrella goes to replicate bouncing off a true white celling. This looks more practical. Very close to getting the Godox CS-50D.

      Absolutely. I actually have started experiementing again with some new modifiers! So I will have a kind of round 2 on this. I also want to show each of the flash patterns or flash frames each of the modifiers produce and blow them up in lightroom so we all can see which would work best for each of our styles. Let me know if you make that grey card bounce. Thats kind of a cool idea!

    I've been looking at a variety of modifiers lately as I've been bouncing either speedlights or an XPLOR600 off of the ceiling. What impact of shooting through the orb into the room have on creating shadows from things like lamp shades, ceiling fans etc? Thanks for this video!

    I just started using the Godox ML-CD15 on my ad400 pro with nice results. It’s defiantly bigger than the magmod and way cheaper.

      Its a trade off. And I felt like I did the magmod dirty in this...to be clear, its not a bad piece of gear. its jut expensive for what it is. My friend is a wedding photographer and for that, its PRICELESS. But for quality of light, the lantern is just bar none so far for me.

    Will is that a 7" reflector housing? Just ordered one for my AD600. Yours looks larger than 7 and I could only find the plastic snap on diffuser plate in 7". If you could confirm that would be great thanks!

    Well…I’ve used a MagMod on my AD200 (separate flash head) on a mini monopod, on the cage, but I shoot it up from the lens, not straight out…works well for me…I set my exposure 2 stops down from my ambient setting…I’ve had an AD600, with a separate flash head & just got the MagMod XL for it…shot a few test shots, but the verdict is still out…I like that the reflector folds down…saves some space…much easier to set up than the Godox lantern…I have a SmallRig lantern that is much easier to set up, but it’s a biggie…(I use it for portraits)...AnS it’s a bowens mount…$150ish…

      Hey if it works for you great! For the price the Magmod is just too expensive for what it is. Godox makes the same things in multiple mounts for a fraction of the cost. Setup takes the same amout of time for me and it fits in my bag.
      But again if it makes you faster, better and more confident its money well spent! cheers!

    Never heard of Magmod but i've used the Gary Fong lightsphere works the same as that .. still not like an umbrella or softbox. Most of the properties I shoot are cluttered (with valuable belongings) and small, could be 200 years old (people were tiny that built these houses) and it's hard enough to use a tripod let alone wrangling a flash.

      100%. I think its so interesting to balance the size vs speed vs quality of light in this business. Knocking things over and just protecting the owners property is something I always have to be super cognisent of and I think using a modifyer that makes you the most confident in that situation is by far the best.

      @@WillGayPhoto Where is the break point in room size where guide 60 flash is too small compared to the AD400 (400ws I assume?) I can do a 12' square room reasonably well with my flashes but I don't usually set it or them on the camera, usually remotely placed is that a mistake?

    Great input. I will try the orb. Is there a bigger orb around 85 cm diameter? Maybe too big otherwise.Cheers.

    Thanks for the comparison. Actual light spread examples would be useful. Personally i think it hurts your credibility a bit when you spent a fair amount of energy talking down something which you admitted you have not tried. Magbounce on an AD200 is a viable alternative, total cost is $80. Flexible, portable, convenient , durable.

      To be clear, I have used a magmod. I ownd one and sold it because of how much I did not like it. Have I tried their complete system? No which is what I am talking about in this video. But nothing has changed since I owned their MagSphere. All they are doing is making a mounting system, the modifiers are nothing new. There are many other cheaper alternatives that use the same material they do which I also own. My problem with their system isn't egonomics or durability. Its the price. The Godox ML30 is the same thing as the Magsphere, it doesn't require a $27 mount to use it, and its 50% cheaper. My issue with MagMod is they overpriced for what you get. The MagBounce is also a tiny light source. Its no better than a reflector or a the white domes you get with a speed light. And you bring up a great point. It would be worth my time to show off the differences between a speed light and a monolight. I think it would also be worth it to show off the differences in modifiers so I can better illustrate what I am talking about. I am quite passionate about this subject because when I was in advertising I wasted so much money on gimmicky that I don't want others to waste their money on them. But point taken.

      How does the magmod impact a shot when there is a ceiling fan or large chandelier in the room. Does it create shadows?

    • @JeffreyJDavis
      @JeffreyJDavis 9 дней назад

      @@garyjones101 by definition , any flash is going to create shadows, it's a matter of how hard they are and your ability to put them where they are manageable. Personally, I find the magbounce to be a pretty viable option. You can hold it at "fan level" in a lot of rooms for a flash pop and minimize shadows and it largely takes bounced color casts out of the equation. no modifier is going to eliminate shadows in flambient.
