After watching this video, I bought the ScanX gauge. With that, and Ron's help, it was determined that my 6.0 had a bad FICM. Ron offers the FICM repair/rebuild service with which I am very pleased. I received the FICM in short time, installed it, and my truck is now ready for a New Hampshire winter!! Thanks so much!
    5 Stars!

    Hi Ron,
Just want to say thanks for the videos. Bought a scangauge II and set it up for the pids. found FMP @ 39 volts. Found out you sold ficms on ebay and checked out that video, then bought one. Got it in 2 days, put it in this evening and my 2005 f250 started right up. Thanks to you I was able to do it myself. Thanks, B.L GC Indiana

Thanks for these great videos. In my 03 6.0 my turbo blew up with only 80k miles on it. While I had the truck in my shop I also replaced the oil cooler, did EGR delete, blue spring, new ICP sensor, new exhaust, and turbo drain/feed tubes. I'm not a mechanic and was able to do the whole thing by watching your videos. After I was done, the truck ran better than it ever had.. for about a month, then I got a crank no-start. My oil pressure was only reaching about 400psi. I pulled the IPR valve first to check since I did not replace that valve, just put a new screen etc on. Upon inspection, it looked like it was clogged up with shop rag lint, obviously from my work on the oil cooler. I cleaned it up real good and put it back in. Same problem, no start. I pulled the driver side oil rail off for o-ring inspection on the injectors and they all looked good. I was kicking myself for not replacing the HPOP when I had it torn down, but after allot of research and mulling it over, I finally just ordered a new IPR valve to try. Surprisingly that was all it was. Not sure if the lint caused the old one to fail or if it was just coincidence. The truck is again running like a champ after the new IPR. Thanks again.

Sync should be 0 or 1. Recheck your programming code. As far as the ipr reaching 80 that can be a leak. Bad oil or weak pump on an 03. Do you have the right filter and oil cap on it? What does your icp read key on engine off? Is it leaking? The 03 is common to leak. If it really bothers you and you don't find something with my other suggestions. You will have to remove the valve covers and let it sit over night. Then remove the plug on top of the rail. (It may be loose all ready). Find out which

I recently had a no start issue with my 6.0 powerstroke diesel. Mine is a 2005 e350 with 733,000 km's. I was seriously considering buying another truck when it was suggested I have the mechanic check the oil pressure release valve off the crank. Apparently the needle bearing can fall and hold the valve open. Sure enough that was the problem. A very cheap and easy fix.

Fixed yeah!! Turns out it was the pump. I removed the pump and tore it apart. Found that the fixed swash plate had spun 180. So basiclly the pump was working backwards. Had seen that the reman. pumps had a set screw in the side of case to hold it so i drilled and tapped it, reassembled it with a set screw. Now she is alive again.

Ron i also tried putting 12v to the red wire terminal an ground to the red and yellow wire. It sparked a little but still no click. If the ipr is bad, will that cause only 10psi?? I read somewhere that even with a stuck open ipr the pump should still be able to put out 200-300 icp. If the pump is bad is there a way to prove it??Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi Ron. Any thoughts on this one. First of all my truck is a 2004 F250 6.0 with 250,000. I was getting on the highway about a week and a half ago and went about 100 yards and the truck stalled. No bucking, smoke, noise or anything. It was as if I turned the ignition off. Got to the side of the road and it would crank, no start several times over several minutes. I had my Craftsman code scanner (I know it's a P.O.S. but my Snap-On Solus was stolen a couple years ago) but I had no codes and no engine light. Had it towed home and checked the oil, coolant, obvious leaks - nothing bad. I did a shop air test of the HPO system with the ICP port adaptor and heard no loud leaks but could hear air bubbles in the oil filter housing. I checked the 3 connectors to the FICM to make sure they had not gotten loose - all OK. I had replaced my FICM power side last winter because the original had failed, but I have had no issues with it since. I didn't check the FICM volts at the test window, don't know why but I forgot. We were going to leave for vacation 2 days later so I rented a car and had the truck towed to my local Ford dealer. I spoke to the diesel tech that was going to work on my truck and explained the whole thing to him. Went on vacation and called about a week later. The Service Manager told me that they needed to start with replacing the FICM because the computer will not communicate with the FICM and also mentioned that it's an aftermarket FICM. I explained the FICM half shell replacement to him and asked if maybe it's a harness issue. His reply was that the tech said that since there is no communication with the FICM that they need to start by replacing the FICM and then go from there. I don't know if there were any FICM communication codes, they didn't tell me. Does this sound right to you? I told them to order it since I don't have the time to diag. and repair the truck myself right now. I just don't want them to replace the FICM for around $800 + labor and then find that it didn't change anything. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Ron,
Thanks for your great videos and I hoping your can provide some insight on our issue
    Crank No-Start 95 6.0L F250:
Diagnosed by Ford Garage. HPOP only making 280-320lbs per ICP, IPR not maxed at 85% when cranking and showing 14.5% with key on. FCIM MP 48,5-49V key on and crank. We have GOOD SYNC.
    Dealer indicates bad HPOP
I install reman'd HPOP w/ STC and reman IPR (STC & IPR included with new HPOP) STC set tool used correctly and both STC and Pump o-rings replaced. Still Crank no start (I know it takes really long time to prime HPOP and we have cranked her thought two complete battery drains/re-charges)
    SCANGAUGE shows following currently:
    Injection clatter good
FICM MP 48.5V Key on and 49V Crank
    SYNC Good
ICP 4-5 Key on, 7-9 Crank
IPR 14.5% Key on 84.5% crank
I am thinking new IPR is bad or new HPOP bad or Both. OR perhaps we simply have not cranked long enough to prime HPOP.
Any thought from you would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks!!

Recently it has been having longer cold cranks (~10 seconds) and sometimes hiccuping along the way. Batteries are recent, 2014, and according to my scanguage I get to the 500 psi req, my IPR is at about 30% while cranking, FICM power never drops below 47V and they are synced. Ron, I have seen many of your videos and need some help diagnosing an issue with my 2004 F350 6.0 146000 miles. I was driving down the road pulling my small camp trailer under a bit of a load on a small hill when truck just quit. When I turn on the key I don't hear the fuel pump build up but I have plenty of power. No crank, no clicking. I have replaced FICM, ICP, IPR, Oil cooler, EGR, altinator, starter, over the past 2 years and have good batteries. My scan gauge showed good FICM sync and power. If fuel pump, relay, or fuse went out would this cause truck to not crank, I have checked fuel shut off also? HELP Please.

If buying from advanced auto it can be had for about 129 if you first search for advance auto promo codes for 25% off it and buy and pay online and pickup at a local store around you.mine was 119 because used 25% off promo code and and a 10$ speedperks .Make sure it says the most updated unit on very front currently 6.2 version sg2.You will have to take hour or two to program it for diesel use.Goto scan gauge site under support for gauge and it has for the Cummins groups and international 3.0 6.0 6.7 and 7.3 so print out and program it.They have them for 188 shipped already programmed for Ford but programming is simple to do and he has video showing how. 119 out door is the very cheapest have found NEW....

Hi Ron, I am really hoping for some help. We have purchased and programed the Scan Gauge for my 2004 Ford 6.0. It was a crank, no start when hot, with a low ICP reading when trying to start the truck when hot. We replaced the IPR valve which costs a day and a half of work and $250 in parts and the problem is still continuing. Is there something I can check with the high pressure oil pump, would that be a reason? I love my truck but have just bought it four months ago and this is very frustrating to say the least. Any other direction would be very helpful. One other thing, can you just replace the wires on an injector and if so would we use the 7.3 wires?
    Thank you,

Hi Ron. I have watched most of your videos on the Ford 6.0. My truck starts, runs a while, sometimes for 2 hours, idling. When I throttle I get black smoke, then it quits. I have changed the both fuel filters and now it won't even fire up. I turn the key on and now I do not hear the injectors insync at all. Did I change a program or is the FICM gone bad? Very very cold weather minus 15 below F is when one day the truck runs perfect, then the next day it runs no more. We live in a cold climate and most of the fuel is suited. Main thing is don't know why I have got black smoke, when it purges. And how much would it cost to purchase a FICM from you? Is the FICM responsible for the injectors not going through their rotation when you turn on the egnition? Thank you. Jay

Ron, bought a 04 F250 6.0 with 125,000 miles on it from used car dealer. Drove it about 5 miles from lot check engine light came on, found EGR valve bad. Bought Scan Gauge, found oil temp 35 degrees higher than antifreeze, had diesel repair shop install bullet proof EGR cooler and new oil cooler, cleaned radiator. Drove for approx. 300 miles and shut off while driving about 15mph, crank would not re-start. Checked all fuses, oil, coolant levels, IPC is 118 and IRP 84.7%. Oil gauge on dash comes up to normal while cranking. Is it possible that while being repaired that they did something wrong? Thank you.

Hi, ive got a problem with a ford escape xlt 2005. The obd 2 scan tool listed these codes:
    P1116 engine coolant temp sensor.
    Out of test range.
P1650 power steering switch out of test range.
P1703 brake switch same thing out of test range
P1780 transmission control switch od cancel also out of test range.
P0316 misfire detected on start up
    First 1000 revolutions.
It wouldnt stay in overdrive it kept slipping back at high speed.
Could it be a wiring issue or do you know what it could be?

I have a 2000 Lincoln TC. Battery is new, and Fuel Pump is humming and works.
Car cranks over and over and over but doesn't want to start. Then once in awhile, it surprises me and starts suddenly. When it DOES run, it runs fine but once I shut it off again, it doesn't want to start.
I've burned out my battery and starter both by excessive starting but have replaced them since.
Car still doesn't start. Looks nice just sitting in the street tho.
    Help!!!!!

I got a 04 f250 and I was driving down the road and it slowly died like it lost fuel. I waited a bit and crank it again and it was a hard crank but it started up and idled rough went a little ways and it died again and now it won’t start. Will crank though. I changed the primary and secondary fuel filters and nothing changed. Anyone know what might be the problem.

My 04 F350 did not start the problem started when brake too strong it was turned off and the oil pressure was low so the zero replaced the oil pump and the lid after that perfect work for 2 weeks But now the pressure of oil does not rise but in the filter if I have oil and in the computer I design that the pressure of the ICP if it rises but inside of the truck design that has no pressure

Hi great videos I was watching this video and last scenario is what I'm having with my 2003 6.0, no start when hot unless I spray engine starter. I'm not to knowledge on diesels I've tried using what have a aisle to me an action elite auto scanner cp91185. Not a lot of mechanics I can really trust. Codes I've gotten have been: Map- Mass or volume air flow correction , also cylinder 2, 8 contribution balance fault, erg flow insufficient, obd systems readiness test not complete and no dtc. I'm at my wits end. Any advice would be great full.

so with this type of scenario you want to check your oil and see what it looks like? do you have base oil pressure when hot? every truck I work on that has this problem I always start with base oil pressure. ive had trucks start up cold fine then when they get hot I shut them down and try to restart and they don't have base pressure anymore. since your getting the injector codes as well as the no start when hot, your oil could be contaminated with diesel caused by a bad injector. it will then it out a lot.. get it hot and pull your oil filter off.. then crank the motor using the firewall wire. if it fills up with oil then you know your oil is good. then move on to the next diagnose step..

PLEASE HELP! I bought my husband a 03 F350 6.0. Its our first diesel and our first Ford. We had it for about 6 months with no problems and then my husband had to have surgery for a brain tumor. It was removed, but on the way to his post surgery check the truck died, the turbo hose popped off and it just died. Put the turbo hose back on with no trouble but we couldn't get it restarted. We had problems starting it for a bout a week before, it was just hard to start but eventually it would. I had it towed to a local diesel shop and paid money for them to tell us they had no idea what was wrong. So we tried the obvious, new filters, new battery, oil change. Nothing. I can't take it into the dealership because we have no money to spend for someone else to fix it. We found your videos and we bought the scan gauge. The last truck on this video is doing about what ours is doing including the starting with the starter fluid, it will stay running for about 5 mins. As its running the IPR stays at 84.7. The ICP starts out at 833 and then keeps falling to 600 then the engine dies, if we add more starter fluid it will run for just a few seconds long enough to burn the fluid then dies. When we try to start it without the starter fluid the IPR runs at 84.7 and the ICP hits between 400-480. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Your videos are fantastic and I have learned a lot about diesel engines. Thanks!
