But he was beatable on clay, he never beat Wilander on clay for example (only two meetings but still). And Becker was great, the way he brought power into tennis in WImbledon 85 is among the finest moments in tennis.

Correct. Boris probably missed his best chance in 89 when he lost a tight semi-final to Edberg. Connors missed a couple of years in the mid seventies when he was banned for playing professional tournaments outside of the ATP if memory serves.
Jimmy never beat Becker, think he was 0-3 against him. Age comes into play, but here he beat himself more than anything. Lot of balls in the net. Too many errors. I think he had something going on health-wise. He was not hitting the ball as cleanly as usual.
Nah...players grew to much bigger sizes by the 80s. Becker was a load at 6' 3". Borg, Connors, Vilas, all capped at 5'11". What kind of logic is this? Nadal and Djokovic in their mid-30's have never beaten top 19 year old players at the Slams? Of course they have. Djokovic is not currently No. 1 at 35? Of course he is.
