    The US Open is the final Grand Slam of the year and takes place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The 2021 US Open saw Russia's Daniil Medvedev and Great Britain's Emma Raducanu claim the men's and women's singles titles. My favourite era of tennis. 1970s-1999. Loved the tennis fashion with the collared shirts and short shorts. Serve and volley tennis. Connors, Borg, McEnroe, Lendl, Becker, Edberg and so many others.

    Becker vs Lendl h2h: 10 - 11. However, this is the only time Becker lost to Lendl in Grand Slam, Becker leads 5 - 1 in GS. The irony is that Becker leads 25 - 10 in h2h with Edberg, but in GS, it's 1 - 3.

    • @kingroger007
      @kingroger007 2 года назад +8

      @@myopinion9947 Well, in ATP world tour finals (or Masters), Becker record with Edberg is 4 - 2, so if you count that tournament, the number will be 5 - 5. Even in 89, Becker beat Edberg in RR.
      1986 Masters SF Boris Becker 64 64
      1988 Masters RR Stefan Edberg 76 36 64
      1989 Masters RR Boris Becker 61 64

      1992 ATP Tour World Championship RR Boris Becker 64 60
      1994 ATP Tour World Championship RR Boris Becker 67 64 75
      In my opinion, considering the importance of Davis Cup in 80s and the best of 5 format, we probably should count the record from Davis Cup. Becker's record in Davis Cup against Edberg is 3 - 0 (all in Finals), actually Becker played some of his best matches in Davis Cup finals, the last two matches with Edberg were really one-sided.
      1985 Boris Becker 63 36 75 86
      1988 Boris Becker 63 61 64
      1989 Boris Becker 62 62 64

    Disgustingly, the night of the 1992 U.S. Open 4th Round, USA Network kept jumping back-and-forth between the Edberg-Lendl Quarterfinal match ( which finished the next day) on the Stadium Court and the 4th Round Chang-Washington match on the Grandstand Court, showing mostly the Chang-Washington match which most tennis fans weren't the slightest bit interested in watching! Most tennis fans wanted to see the entire match uninterrupted between two of the greatest players to ever play the game - Lendl and Edberg! USA Network showed their pro-American bias, mind bogglingly and erroneously believing that tennis fans were more interested in watching two non-all-time great American players play than two all-time legends of the game! Brilliant decision USA Network!

      I believe you meant that USA Network kept jumping back-and-forth between the Edberg-Lendl Quarterfinal match and the Chang-Ferreira Quarterfinal match 2 days later. Also here they were jumping back-and-forth between the Lendl-Becker 4th round and the Chang-Washington 4th round match. Once I purchased an old VHS tape of the Edberg-Lendl 1992 match, but almost most of the record was the Chang-Ferreira match, which was a bit annoying.

    • @Thijs-Kuiken
      @Thijs-Kuiken Год назад +1

      no, he was unlikeable because of his negative disposition, devoid of having/showing enjoyment of the game..
      Becker is out of jail now.. and his experience makes him have an interesting story to tell that shows how he developed as a human being. Makes him more human and relatable.
      Nothing like that with Lendl.. gray, dull.. boring; he would have been a great policeman.. or law enforcer in a totalitarian regime; never straying away from the "righteous path".. but never having gained the kind of experience with which he could show empathy, love or sympathy either.. let alone generate it.
      He did have the nicest shirts and as a tennis player I enjoyed watching him because of motoric aspects.. it was esthetically pleasing the way he played the game.

      @@peterhammer4644 Easily. The OP forgets the speed guns were at least 10 mph slower (16 kmph) than today. Boris used to hit 143 -145 mph in 1985-86 which would be 153-155 mph today. Sure his serve lost some pace over the years but in 1996 he would serve aces routinely at 130 mph (I think the speed guns had still not been updated but they were from 2000 onwards) and with pin point accuracy. He could still serve at this speed even in 2003 (4 years after he retired). Of course, not anymore after he stopped playing altogether even on the senior tour.

      Becker was also having a bit of a dip in 1992. He was something of a flashy player, not someone with the consistency of Lendl. It's why he didn't spend such a huge number of weeks at #1

      When they entered a tournament you knew Lendl was a safe bet to get deep into it, while Becker might flame out early if he was distracted. BUT IF Becker was focused and got deep into a tournament his A game was more than most top players, including Lendl could handle. The thing is it was unsure if Becker eas gonna bring his A or C game, while with Lendl he didn’t waver as much.
