I was at this match. My sister and I snuck down to the front just before the match began, found 2 empty seats about 5 rows back and sat down, thinking for sure we'd get booted any minute. We never did. What a match.
Who can't LOVE this guy!...So happy for him. the 'Gentle Giant'. and "What...a Giant'..he is! Back from 'two down???....That...is some serious resolve and stamina. the 'wonder boy'...wasn't ready at this time. I believe now, he's come more of age....( Thiem) and has earned his bones. What a great match!
Some body types are just too prone to injuries. There is a reason why he was injured like 70% of his career. So "if not" is more meaningful if it was some freak accident or something like that. Not in chronic conditions. Then even you can be the great.
DelPo has a world-class mentality and the heart of a lion, and after battling his virus and a feisty Thiem, he then disposed of Roger, only to fall to a rampant Rafa. Legend!
Thiem seems to do this a lot: blazing start, then folds. He blitzed Nadal 6-0 in a first set, looked all-galaxy.....punted the 2nd and lost, choked the 3rd, won the 4th in a tiebreak, and ended up losing a 5th set tiebreak.
Hope not but we may be Watching the Best 2 players who have ( won 1 Grand Slam only ) by end of Career.. Since AO 2017 To AO 2021 Grand Slam Winners.. Dominic - US Open 2020.. Roger - AO 2017/18 - Wimbledon 2017.. Rafael - French Open 2017/18/19/20 - US Open 2017.. Novak - AO 2019/2020/2021 - Wimbledon 2018/219 - US Open 2018.. Two Warriors..
I think it is the fastest court among the four and consistency for holding title in a row is very difficult on this court. Sometimes I wandered how on earth Roger did 5 time in a row
Remember this match very well. The atmosphere and crowd support for delpo was eletric. Domi did a big mistake in letting Delpo back in the match. He seemed done and completely out but once he had his food back in the door his serve and forehand was fireing! Some more womens classics would be great. Venus vs Hingis 2000 SF, Venus vs Mauresmo 2002 SF, Dementieva vs Mauresmo 2004 QF, Pierce vs Dementieva 2005 SF, Venus vs Jankovic 2007 QF...for example ;) That would be so awesome! :)
Matches like his are why Thiem and the next gen are so poor, no killer instinct at all..same again nadal the following year...he won more points, hit more winners but still lost against Rafa, even choked for a 2'1 lead..naff..
2:39:41 omfg can you imagine being a Thiem fan and having to sit next to THAT! ... i will just say in connection to this: it is no wonder their countries are ... ::ahem!::
Delpo and Nadal both timewasters, can't watch unless edited. Just look at the guy's body language-- even in the first 5 minutes! You wonder how he even got out of the bed but he is here playing a five setter!
I plead to US Open for atleast one month to re telecast this match and they didn't disappoint me. Thank you US Open
Keep those requests coming and we'll see what we can do!
I wanna see him play this year 😭😭. Miss you Delpo

He says: "this is enough for me", then in quarters upset Roger. What a beast!
this was a great legend match
If only the standards for moral excellence and personal integrity were as high as the standards set for high level sports competition.
@US Open Tennis Championships: Please upload the full DelPo vs Nadal USO 2017 semifinal! It was awesome!
Thiem is a very polite player and del potro is very much likeable!
We miss both of them!
If not of his injuries.... HE'LL BE ONE OF THE GREATS...Even Better than Djoker or Rafa!
But still he's playing and it makes all tennis fans so happy

La salvada de Delpo en este partido fue mítica. Lástima que no se llevase su segundo US Open.
Wow! What a match! Very well done Juan Martin!
DelPo has a world-class mentality and the heart of a lion, and after battling his virus and a feisty Thiem, he then disposed of Roger, only to fall to a rampant Rafa. Legend!
2:39:33 That forehand! The Hammer of Thor!
yeah, tennis is known for its focus on strength :D
4 years later Thiem wins this match... true resilency
3 years
and del potro is in a cast
Del Potro's wild Argentinian fans definitely had a huge impact. Definitely a classic but really felt for Thiem when he lost this one
I love how hyped the guy at 2:39:43 was getting
Delpotro est un vrai gentleman des cours !!
Legend

Looking forward to this. Many thanks. #lockdown Mumbai.
Finally!! ❤
Del potro was always a great big match player - he competed and stretched every top player over 8 or 9 yrs - phenominal player ; as is Thiem
Dominic thiem looking like schwartzman in thumbnail 😀

Unfortunately you have not uploaded any of the mentioned matches. :/
And then he went on to beat Fed...
I have just seen one previous champion of US

Thiem's biggest choke of his career
that would be against Nadal.
Delpo 😓😭
Why such outdated music. Something from this millenium would be nice
3:03:41 a 96 mph first serve 😳

1:02:47
I dont know why del potro insists on going flat on almost every shot
Delpo looked liked he was legit going to vomit on the court for those two first sets
2:39:41 omfg can you imagine being a Thiem fan and having to sit next to THAT! ... i will just say in connection to this: it is no wonder their countries are ... ::ahem!::
The end of this match on a double fault? How anti climatic
Man, those “doctors” can barely get a pill out! 😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️smh..
3:10:34 - LOL (help me) - 3:12:04 😎
Not sure if Domi choke or Delpo just clutch 🤔
Both of them. Thiem played awful on the key moments, but Delpo was there to punish those mistakes.
Adidas apparel ... wtf
Yep, Novak on Federer. Match point down, forehand cross court winner... The rest is history
