  • Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem go head-to-head in the final of the 2020 US Open! One of them will become the first men's singles Grand Slam winner born in the 1990s. The last 63 men’s singles Grand Slam titles have been claimed by men born in the 1980s, a streak that dates all the way back to 2004 Roland Garros.
Zverev has struggled mightily with his second serve at this year’s US Open (49 double faults through six rounds), but the 23-year-old German has battled through those rough patches to take his place in his first career Grand Slam final. He became the first player to rally from two sets down in a US Open semifinal since 2011, when he defeated Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta.
Thiem is bidding to win a major singles title after dropping his first three Grand Slam finals. He lost the first two against Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros (2018, 2019) and then fell to Novak Djokovic in five sets in this year’s Australian Open final. Thiem hopes to avoid joining Ivan Lendl and Andy Murray as men’s singles players who lost each of their first four major finals.
Zverev is bidding to become the first German men’s singles champion at the US Open since 1989, when Boris Becker raised the trophy. Thiem is already the first Austrian to ever reach a US Open final and he hopes to be the first man from his country to win a Grand Slam singles title since Thomas Muster won Roland Garros in 1995. No matter who comes away with the victory, this year’s US Open will crown a men’s singles Grand Slam champion not named Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic for the first time since Stan Wawrinka claimed the US Open title in 2016.

Extremely well said most of the guys are against thiem and hate him and many tennis channels call themselves honest and critisize thiem like none. Federer won 14 slams without facing the big 2 does that mean he didn't deserve it and more over thiem was the only guy to have taken 2 sets to 1 lead against novak at ao final and pushed novak to the limits so he could have defeated novak at us open where novak is more vulnerable compared to ao. We all saw medvedev couldn't touch novak and won just 9 games so definitely thiem can beat anyone. He got nervous in this match cause he was the favourite to win it had novak been on the other thiem would have been an underdog and nerves wouldn't have played a great part and would have for sure played much better .

I was rooting so hard for Zverev. What a heartreaking loss. If he never wins a slap and ends up like Coria, I'll never get over it. :(

Sascha is a beast with so much time left. He’s already surpassed Coria. Zverev has 19 titles, ranked 2nd in the world (highest) 7th all time in career earnings granted it’s different now. Several ATP finals wins and still only 26. He’s got this!

Idk, that wasn't their best match for sure, but nobody can say that it wasn't a thriller and a great comeback.
Also, if Djokovic wasn't disqualified (which he totally deserved by the way, not because he injured the line judge, but because of recklessness) there's still a fair chance Thiem would have won. We can't declare every tournament invalid, just because the big 3 aren't in it. Wait until they retire.
