I remember coming home from school and looking forward to watching the Becker match on VHS. But my mum said you dont need to watch he lost his match. I was angry at her for spoiling the result. 😄 1987 was not a good year for Becker. He also lost to Peter Doohan in 2nd round Wimbledon as title defender and had altogether many losses. One of the few highlights 1987 was the legendary Davis cup match vs. USA where Becker won 2 dramatic five set matches vs. McEnroe and Mayotte. 1988 he made good progess in the right direction and 1989 was his probably best year, winning Wimbledon and US Open.
Thx for posting this gem 💎 of a game impressive how they came to the net with out a doubt the hat a match by Masur and Boris at his physical prime wonderful
The grass courts at Kooyong were noted for being somewhat strange. They were quite a bit slower than Wimbledon's grass courts were in those days and played more like a low bouncing hard court. They were also built on a slight incline to assist with drainage which meant that from one end you were hitting the ball slightly uphill, and downhill from the other.
@@bopps-tennis-video-archive - can YOU tell me are they sometimes play 2 matches side by side on this court at kooyong? Because here the place is more on the right side like in the final. And in other matches you can see that there are 3 (!!!) courts "written" on the grass... You know what i mean?

Ironic he won 2 australian opens on medium slow rebound ace (same as lendl, courier, sampras) though to be fair his baseline game had matured a lot more by then.

The same happened to me, and when I got upset, mum tried to pretend she didn't actually know - but the damage was done!
Boris cracking the schits and loosing wally was a thing on it's own, he simply went into a state of farkwit izm

Interesting facts. Thank you!
Because it's hotter and the grass was drier.

Masur had a decent career
Thank you.
1987, Boris Beckers bad year. But he came back. Also in the 1990s he was very strong.
interesting event for Becker, first he won 3-2 vs Dyke wasting 4 match points in 4th set TB then lost 2-3 vs Masur saving 3 match points in 4th set TB
As A Result, Becker And His Coach Bosch Parted Ways.
And they never talked again

as great as Becker was at Wimbledon, the Kooyong grass was a different matter altogether.

First serve just deserted him
