I test drove the Palisade, Telluride, Highlander, MX-9, and Atlas. I am a tall guy, and only the Palisade gave my right leg complete unobstructed knee clearance. With the driver seat all the way back, I was still able to sit comfortably in the second row captain chair. The third row baby seat lock is located on the driver’s side, small but important detail. Palisade’s extra storage under the gear shift is a big deal for a family, wife in particular. I am trading in my BMW330 for a 2021 Palisade. The Hyundai's interior is truly beautiful. I like the exterior visual details of the 2020 Limited better than the Calligraphy.
Looked at both, went with the 22 XSE...it came down to the proven track record of Toyota, I also feel like the XSE looks better, and the red leather interior really sets it off!
Yeah I'm not really getting the reviews and hype around the palisade. I test drove several trim levels of the palisade today including the calligraphy. I also test drove the xse. To me the xse had a lot better ride. It was quite and more refined in its drive. The palisade had more road noise and the drive felt cheap to me. It was rougher on the bumps and felt stiffer. I felt like the seats were not as comfortable in the palisade. Now the tech and space in the palisade is a lot better. The ride in the xse was much better and did not feel cheap.
There are roughly 41 midsize crossovers sold in the US, almost equally divided between two row and three row vehicles. Virtually every automaker except Mazda offers both a two row and three row midsize SUV. So why do some consumers choose a three row vehicle while others opt for a two row crossover? Presumably because third row seating is important to some and not to others. With that in mind, I find it remarkable how little attention reviewers pay to third row accommodations when comparing 3 row SUVs. And this review is no exception. The Highlander offers 27.7" of third row legroom while the Palisade provides 31.4". In fact, the Highlander provides the least third row legroom of ANY mainstream midsize SUV. Compare that to the 30" of legroom in a Mustang! Of course, the fact that the first and second rows of the Highlander and the Palisade can be moved fore and aft to allocate space more equitably. But that doesn't help the Highlander. The total legroom of the first, second, and third rows combined in the Highlander is 109". In the Palisade it's 118". And the fact that the Palisade is longer than Palisade is 1" longer than the Highlander doesn't explain that difference. The Highlander may have a number of virtues. Roomy passenger accommodations isn't one of them. In fact, it's the most cramped three row crossover on the market.
I currently own a 2011 Toyota Venza and I was looking to trade it in for a 2021 Toyota Highlander, until I saw the 2021 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy. In my opinion, the Palisade beats the Highlander in every meaningful category including exterior looks, tech, interior decor, cargo space. I love my Venza, its been very reliable to me, but its time for a change after 9 years and the Palisade is definitely my next vehicle.
Funny, I had a 2011 Venza as well, and just bought the Calligraphy also. It was the tech and life time power train warranty that sold me. I have owned many Toyota's through the years and always considered myself a Toyota only guy. (Still have a Tundra), but I felt Toyota is lagging in the features and tech side of what makes driving a vehicle so pleasurable.

I drove an Excel for five years at over 150,000 miles with no problems until age caught up with it. Love this new suv. The interior is comfortable and beautiful. This is probably my last vehicle since I am retired and don’t drive as much as I used to. Time will tell but that warranty I am not worried at all.
Got a Calligraphy yesterday. So much tech it will take a while to figure out as my 11 year old vehicles only tech was hands free. Looked at Highlander but went Palisade.
That was fun to watch. Good comparison. In my opinion I like the Palisade. Its cool to see automakers put some very nice features in their suvs, in think the Palisade is extremely nice. Do more comparisons like this! Great job!
I had a 2018 Highlander Limited. I loved it for the three years I had it but technology was dated, the third row seat was not very useful and once the third row was up the trunk space was very small. In the last ten years I’ve had Hyundais and Toyotas. They’re both good cars but for my family needs I had to go with the Palisade Calligraphy. It’s bigger and bolder looking to my eyes. So far it’s great!
I spend my time with my vehicle inside of it, not outside looking at it, so I will take the luxury and features over aggressive styling every time. Not at all concerned with reliability, Hyundai ranks at or near the top in owner surveys. Hyundai costs a bit more, but if you do Starbucks every second day instead of everyday you're there payment wise. Add in the superior Hyundai warranty and it's a slam dunk for the Palisade.
I'd go with the toyota everytime proven reliability and toyota holds their resale value better than every other similar company on the road the Hyundai looses huge value just rolling it off the lot and the 100k mile warranty is nice but in my experience most Hyundai start falling apart shortly after it runs out the highlander will go 500k no problem with regular routine maintenance
Fell in love with the Highlander the first time I saw it and sat in it, but the weather was too bad to test drive. When I did test drive it, I was completely underwhelmed. Then I tried the Palisade in the Limited trim and was absolutely blown away. Has more interior room, which I need for the equipment I need to haul, I like the looks way better and the features are just completely off the chart. The driving experience was great as well. Hope to get the Burgundy with the beige interior. My only gripe is the fake wood trim, I HATE that, I wish they made it in the Beige with the Dk Brown interior like they do on the White and Black versions.

Great review and comparison against the manufacturers, I am seeing a lot of the Camry sport looks added to the Toyota Highlander XSE and looks like the rear from your side profile is a little more truncated since its sloped and has a much larger spoiler fro its design. Keep up the great review and comparisons. I have enjoyed the insight you have offered and I think will help with many folks trying to make a decision. I like the Palisade a lot more for its features and looks; in addition I find the interior dash a little more confusing on the Toyota, however others in this family may find it natural, the Hyundai offers a bit more intuitive if not coming from the same vehicle family.

Those Consumer Reports numbers you showed are the OVERALL score which is a combination of the CR road test score, reliability survey data, and safety. Only the reliability portion is based on the CR members survey data. However, neither of those Overall Scores is based on any reliability survey data because both the 2020/2021 Highlander and the 2020/2021 Palisade are too new to have any reliability survey data. Both Highlander and Palisade receive an identical 4/5 predicted reliability score based only on the general reliability of the Hyundai and Toyota brands. There is no "one year's worth of survey data" being compiled on either of these vehicles. There is exactly zero survey data for both vehicles as of October 27, 2020.
I was struggling to understand why you’re comparing a maxed out Pallisade with a mid-trim Highlander, then I looked up the price. Only a $3k difference! I’d still go with the Highlander. Toyota’s reliability is bullet proof. I owned a Corolla for 11yrs and a RAV4 for 14. Together I probably spent $1k on minor repairs like a starter, alternator, etc.
For reliability and resale value Toyota is very hard to beat... Hyundai Palisades feel so luxurious man... I am just stuck in middle cant decide lol... I test drive both and checked out both the SEL Premium version of Palisades and XLE Premium for the Toyota and I would say Palisades feels better inside like a luxury vehicle for half the price and more space every where...

You forgot to highlight the third row space as these are both advertised as family vehicle.
I test drove both and my sister bought the Highlander, for me it’s the Hyundai calligraphy and it’s not even close it’s a much much better SUV
Why wouldn't you compare the Highlander Platinum to the Caligraphy?
Comparing the newest trim levels for 2021
Looking forward to seeing the 2023 Honda pilot!
this dude comparing the top trim Palisade vs mid trim Highlander. lmao
Even at XLE trim, the highlander interior still feels cheap. Their fake leather material feels terrible.
The trim categories for Highlander is very confusing.
I memorized them 😅
@@thatkidjoly I should have that motive lol
Reliability first that’s why I choose toyota
But guess what, the palisade won by 1 point in reliability based on the consumers. I would take the Hyundai because the new ones are very reliable!
@@bradleyscarreviews consumers is the most bullshit. they are biased and sell outs to sponsors. Ive owned two hyundais and two toyotas. I can tell you from real life experience that hyundai will give you problems after 4 years. I still have my 2002 toyota
My mom still has her 2004 sonata with 784,000 miles on it. Hyundai is more reliable than Toyota now a days!
@@bradleyscarreviews nahhh i Hyundai is garbage after 5 years and resale value is very low
But for real though, I agree with you with resale, but Hyundai’s reliability is getting better!
The Consumer Reports Overview number isn't reliability number. Consumer Reports reliably is 1 to 5.
I picked Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy.
Hyudai Palisade ✅
Bad comparison! Should of used a Toyota Highlander Platinum.
This comparison just isn’t fair to the Toyota.
Why would you compare a top trim Hyundai vs a lower trim Toyota? I would have like a better compare to the Toyota platinum vs the Hyundai now that would have been a better compare then this. This is why I gave this a thumbs down even it a good video. Next time do better when comparing vehicles and trims.
Palisade beats Highlander in all aspects except for the reliability. We have to wait for atleast 5 years for the Palisade to test the reliability
Quick Assumption!!!
1 look like a mini van the other look like a Govt VIP carrier
I am told that the Calligraphy does NOT have wireless CarPlay (some lower trim levels do).
This is true, and was a little disappointing to find out Dealer did not understand why as well....
Richard Stack it comes please search you tube “Jones Junction” wireless car play
@@Divi6-1 It has android auto, but you have to use a charge cord to access, it is not wireless.
@@pihguam Thats ok, I picked Calligraphy and it has much more to offer than others. I have been owner of Hyundai's ( Korean) and other Japenese cars for ages years and they all run very well, low maintainence, always offer more than competitors.Same concepts. That is why they are leading.
Excellent comparison.
Toyota #1 and sportier driving than the Hyundai Toyota will hold up better in the long run I prefer the looks of the Xse the Hyundai looks Cheap inside and out
George, great video but man you got to find a different place to film these videos it looks like your on the set of the walking dead
Two completely different trim levels in their line respected line ups
Palisade!!
I have the highlander xse 2023 and is nice and sporti I always whant something sport and Toyota have the other brand the competetive of Toyota is nice but no lock sporty
If you plan to keep the car forever or after the warranty runs out, then get the Toyota...
If you plan to get a new car in 5 years or less, then get the Palisades.
The Toyota will hold its value in 5 years better while Palisades will be 4-5k less in value vs the Highlander...
Also, this review was not fair... It should a Highlander Platinum vs a Palisades Caligraphy..
Honda Pilot elite over both of these all day everyday!
Oh no, I don’t know how, the pilot looks like a minivan, and doesn’t have nearly as much technology as the palisade, plus that funky nine speed, and the pilot looks like a raised up odyssey. Can’t believe your saying that.
I have to disagree. Just traded my pilot to 2020 Palisade. It’s way better. The guy from honda even gave me a thumbs up for choosing palisade.
Nah that's ugly and looks dated... I think it's smaller bother the passport looks good though...
Getting famous off of comments day 155,so I can live the dream, live life to the fullest🤙🤙
Palisade: Delivers hallmark in the economy mid size suv market. But ends up competing with luxury suvs like BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lincoln etc
Toyota: Answers with gimmickry by only adding two captain seats in the back.
Hyundai is a Hyundai it will broke in two year and Highlander just starting break in early state, I haven't seen any Hyundai make it through 200k miles Toyota will go 200k-500k miles and resale is much better 10 times than Hyundai.
Looks like you haven’t driven a single car yet. I have Hyundai and Toyota both Toyota parts are expensive Hyundai are less expensive. I have Sonata Hybrid 90000 miles no problem ever.servicing cost is low as well
You drive a car 200,000 miles? At 15K miles/year, that's over thirteen years. That's 3 cars in 40 years.
@@Divi6-1 I driven car your poorboy not born yet??? What Toyota you owned and I bet your Hyundai probably in the shop more than 10 times I had owned A Tacoma 233k miles and still running strong plus just bought 4runner TRD Pro to go places not Hyundai let go shop fix it and you're talking 90k miles that is Toyota early state..
@@taavaj lol ! Assuming is the worst part of a human . I have driven and owned from Corollas to Camry’s not saying they are not relatively but times have changed so grow up . My hyundai has not sat in workshop ever & they don’t . The company claims best in class warranties because they are confident of their machines.
Times are gone when only Toyota & Honda’s would rule same like Ford, GM’s they are gone long back in passenger vehicle markets just left with trucks now
@@westmerchantus Damn A human being will never insulting others human being I assuming you are just a little kiting no shit about car an animal If your are owned and driven any of Toyota plus Honda you will knew better that. I haven't ever seen any Hyundai reach 300k miles like my Tacoma and Pilot.
Good quality video ✅
I will take the Hyundai pliersade
Toyota is the best
Hyundai is just for 4or5 years
Sorry to brake it, but my aunt owns Hyundai for more than 11 years, and it still works like new
Horrible front end on the Highlander XSE.. literally looks like 2 cars stacked on top of another.
Do you prefer the regular Highlander front end? (I think the XSE front is better.)
Super homely humongous mouth, just terrible.
🤦♂️😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 wtf
go buy the Hyundai if you plan to keep it less then 6 years, otherwise get the Toyota
Hyundai is better now then Honda
@@rays3995 A new model that is unproven is not better than anything...

Palisade. I will never buy a Highlander again. Electronics/infotainment is garbage.
I agree, my 2014 Tundra with only 45K mileage just went blank n Toyota says I had to replace the whole infortainment which cost $4600 plus installation
Well have to agree if we are talking Navigation system but im guessing you have not been or seen new highlanders Everything has improved! Especially highlander has best safety features than any other car suv out there and all standard!
Paid for by Hyundai.
Hyundai of course is better!!

It was win palisade interior
Toyota has a long reputation. Case closed

I hate the Palisade and Telluride because of people who buy them. They're so anti-Toyota and I seriously hate all of them and their paper cars. Talk to you in 3 years when your Palisade and Telluride are junk on 4 wheels.
The palisade and telluride won’t be junk in 3 years. I hate the people who buy Toyota because they are so anti- Hyundai/Kia. Why though, I mean they are getting better, and people love them, they haven’t been unreliable. All of that stuff was in the past. Talk to me when you do your research.
