- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is a steel roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Florida. The 3D dark ride themed to the Gringotts Wizarding Bank became the flagship attraction for the expanded Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort when it opened July 8, 2014.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter officially opened in the Islands of Adventure theme park on June 18, 2010. The Harry Potter-themed area saw attendance at Islands of Adventure rise by as much as 36% in 2010. According to Jason Garcia of the Orlando Sentinel, this saw resort executives pondering "when to expand Wizarding World and how to keep business balanced between Islands and Universal Studios Florida". In April 2011, Brady MacDonald of the Los Angeles Times speculated that an expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter would see attractions such as Diagon Alley and a Gringotts-themed dark ride replace Islands of Adventure's Lost Continent themed area.
On December 6, 2011, Universal Parks & Resorts announced that they would be expanding The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The expansion was described as "significant" by officials. The announcement came just four days after Universal Studios Florida announced that they would be closing their Jaws ride on January 2, 2012. Demolition of the Jaws ride and the surrounding Amity area began almost immediately after its closure. After the site was levelled, work began on land reclamation as well as the construction of a series of buildings including a large show building for the Gringotts ride.
Further details about the expansion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter were announced on May 8, 2013. Officials confirmed that the expansion would predominantly be set in the adjacent Universal Studios Florida theme park and would feature attractions themed after Diagon Alley and London. On January 23, 2014, officials announced the name of the flagship attraction would be named Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
On July 8, 2014, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts opened alongside other attractions in the newly added Diagon Alley section.

For those worrying about the drop- It's nothing. I was shaking in the queue, just because I heard there was a small drop in the beginning. I have to say, it's probably the easiest drop I've ever been on (and I have ridden splash mountain). If you're worried the drop is TOO small, however, it's more intense if you can sit in the back seat, of the back car. Not only is the drop bigger, but you can't see the bottom of it like you barely can in the front seat.

Ursolino McCoy 2 completely separate ride systems made at very different times so no I wouldn't. Personally I love dinosaur and this is ok

I miss the days when Universal had rides that had actual, real sets... real explosions and fire etc... instead of just a coaster with a 3D simulator. It just feels so much cheaper. I know it's literally a lot more cost efficient for Universal but it doesn't feel as realistic and immersive.
Then you're probably going to enjoy skull island. And that reason is why I enjoy forbidden journey much more. Those massive sets for the forbidden forest and the chamber of secrets are better than any simulator screen... I will say the two cavern sets are amazing in this ride.

+AdoreYouInAshXI I know, Universal has an abundance of screen based attractions, they should really change that. But with the new Jimmy Fallon ride coming, I doubt they'll be doing less of that anytime soon

When the dragon started to breathe fire I genuinely felt like I was being burned. Not in a painful way, just in like in an immersive way. This ride was awesome.
I love this ride I thought that it was going to be boring since I'm not a Harry Potter fan but let me tell you that ride is hella fun, and I was not expecting that drop when I got on it
I didn’t enjoy this till I rode in the back row but I love how technologically impressive this roller coaster is! It really is a modern engineering marvel considering how they went about creating so many illusions with such a traditionally rigid ride. I haven’t been this impressed since I discovered the elevator in the Transformers ride and realized how quickly that thing has to move to handle the ride’s operations.

The queue for this ride was the coolest but me and my family were so disappointed with the actual ride. It was kind of advertised as a thrill ride but it was definitely just a simulator. My first warning was the tiny height restrictions which were smaller than the forbidden journey. Queued over three hours for this. Bummer.

Rode this for the first time last year. My little sister was surprised and took her glasses off when the track tilted. All I heard was “WAIT, NO! WAIT A MINUTE!” And I lost it completely lol.

When I was 11-13, me and my family went to Universal Studios every year for our annual summer vacation to Orlando. So the following years we went to Disney World instead. During this period Diagon Alley was created.For thanksgiving this past year, my mom took my sister and I back to Universal. We just wondered into Diagon Alley and got on the ride without knowing what we were getting into. one of the workers told us we should take off our hats and we were confused and my mom said "Damn is the ride that bad? Did yall lie to me?" The ride started and When the cart went to a vertical angle, I saw my mom's soul leave her body 😂 it's a great ride but it sure did catch us off guard.

A lot of people in the comments are asking if it has big drops and if it goes upside down. And no it has no big drops but in the beginning there is a tiny drop and there Is no going upside down at all

I haven't been on this ride before with my parents. I'm planning to go on it with them someday as EITHER The Feelgoods OR The Grangers. Thumbs up if you like the sound of that. LOL! I hate to spoil the magic and fantasy, but you can see Delphi's evil parents, Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange. Is it safe to board these rides in costumes as either character from Fiction?
check the parks rules on costumes, I've seen many people go in costume in videos and stuff so it shouldn't be a big deal

I actually went on spring break and the lines for the rides we went on were 30 mins max. I think it’s a mix of what day/time you go and some time management. We got fast passes for islands of adventure for one day but when we didn’t have any we still were able to get on rides in a decent amount of time.

The castle just has the one (the Forbidden Journey dark ride). This roller coaster, Escape from Gringotts, is inside the Gringotts Bank at the Diagon Alley section of the Universal Studios Florida park (the castle is at Islands of Adventure).
honestly, the small drop is NOTHING like a small drop. it’s terrifying and i hated it. i had to watch this to actually see what happened in the ride because the whole ride i didn’t focus on it because i was so scarred about the drop.
forbidden journey is still better, no comparison.

Christina maire, No the ride goes and stays up right. That is why there is no harness, just a lap bar. The drops are small and it truly is a very fun ride.

These rides where you're just in a cart in a little projector room like the Simpsons one, and Fast and The Furious one are just such a let down. Super happy I didn't wait the hour and 20 minutes for this.

For a potterhead such as myself, I didn't think Universal could top Forbidden Journey. But then there was this. Forbidden Journey is still amazing, but Gringotts doesn't make my feel like I'm going to barf up all of my major organs.
I went right after universal reopened in July. Almost completely empty.. Maybe 200 people total in diagon, if that. You actually feel like you’re in the real world of Harry Potter when you aren’t surrounded by crowds. Plus it was way safer to go then than now when the crowds are rising again.
We were able to walk on to every single ride, even hagrids. We hit every major ride in both parks in a day (except for transformers, simpsons, and suess land because no one in my family likes them) plus spent two hours wandering around diagon and hogsmeade.
I’m now so excited to go back to universal so I can finally ride all the coasters

We just went there on a make a wish trip there best ride ever! Scary cause it drops you straight down and up down and all around then you feel like the snake is going to eat you!
