Boy, does this bring back those wild mid 1960's days with me and my brothers going to various drags in Calif. Lyons, Pomona etc those Alters were the wildest lest controlled rides. At the time they were like 1300-1500 Hp but with that short size... I remember only one of the top 4 or 5 alterds nationally was a BB Chevy, the rest, especially Pure Hell, were HEMI's. We're all in our 70's now but the golden memories remain.....
Might be quicker and faster cars in drag racing but the guys who drive these things have the biggest stones. Those drivelines in those frames have always been nuts.
In 1971 i got a magazine at the U.S. Nationals w/wild picture's and an Australian Fuel Altered called Berzerk w/liquid spilling out of fake radiator shell .Great video thank's for posting.
Damn the sound of those beasts is amazing, and what blows my mind is the stability of some of them. It really is one of those things not everyone can do a lot of people would pass out due to g's
I may be ill informed. but I thought I heard at the meeting that Randy Bradford, driving the Bradford's Fiat, is 71. Been racing since the 60's. Not too shabby.
Awesome to see the fuel altered tradition alive and well all over the world! Also badass to see the original American fuel altereds there hauling ass! 👍🏻
The wild Hemi's, all different cars and chassis set up but tons of HP's with a short wheel base. Awesome machines i remember back in 1985 when i was crazy about drag racing and driving fast , boy i miss my young wild years running down the qtr. mile
Look up Tribute to Wild Willie Borsch. He used to do burnouts in one of these with one hand on the wheel and one resting on the side of the car. Looked as relaxed as if he was just cruising down the highway. Balls of steel. What a showman.
I have never driven nitro but blown alky and gas altereds. For me a good burnout isnt easy. If the back end doesent want to come around then the tires arent smoking. And for the first 300 feet or so the steering doesent steer. Not unless you back off and put some weight on the front tires. Really are a blast to drive...
They were really sketchy back in the day here in So California when the engines were jacked up into the air in the chassis like the Winged Express is for example.... Real fun to watch!!!
@@bobbysykesjr.354 yeah I'm amazed at how straight right down the middle of the track most of these cars are running... these fuel altereds may look like the ones from the old days, but they have nothing but the latest chassis engineering and parts under them with the latest setup knowledge of how to go straight... back in the day it was sheer terror and a driver's giant balls and skills to keep them on the track (nevermind keeping them in their lane lol)... not that it doesn't take balls to drive them today, but they're a whole different animal
A burnout only requires a fraction of the power these engines produce, so they only use a light touch of the throttle, and since the butterfly valves open and close based on throttle position that's why you see them only open a little bit during the burnout
@@one-o-four889 No worries dude. Well, its all in comparison I guess, with massive slicks like that it will take a lot of power to spin them, but these nitro burning engines make so much power and torque it makes it look easy!
The one that said psycho on the front reminded me of my ex-girlfriend, She was fast, ran a little hot , something always breaking down but she never went that straight .
oh you're so lying, you know you'd jump in that seat if it was offered to you.. Hey you wouldn't be the first grown man to piss in his pants, no one will make fun of you if you did lol
If the NHRA or IHRA don’t have a class for these beastssss, I guess I have to get me gear and head on Down Under! Can I buy Yeungling? Ill miss it, but Fosters is just like it, so Ill be OK!
@@tomconner9695 According to my brother-in-law (Aussie), they don't drink that shit, they export that shit.....LOL. Told me the same thing on my first trip to New Zealand. I told him I tried Kiwi beer and didn't like it. He asked me what kind and I told him Steinlager (it tasted like burnt wood). Again, "we don't drink that shit, we export that shit!!!"
Can someone ANYONE please tell me in English what a fucking Gadgin pin is ? I was watching an Aussie engine builder doing an engine assembly and he kept saying that word ..now I've only been building engines since like the mid 70s and unless they have redesigned the combustion engine I'm not aware of a Gadgin pin ?
Dave Gauld in Nitro Nitemare having a hairy burnout, surely not! I have seen him crossed up several times at Meremere Dragway. Please checkout my channel for the hairy rides. Cool video. Hi from NZ, Anthony
It sucks when the media uses a child as a fear mongering tool instead of just making a real presentation on how climate change has evolved over the past 20 years and then see what we can do to change it, if it is really as bad as they say. Which we know it is not because the ozone layer in the Southern Hemisphere literally has re-generated over the past 10 years... rip independence
@Andrew Manche I reluctantly agree. *"BUT"* most post kmph side by side with mph. The youth of today outside of backward USA measure.... In the METRIC world speak, think, learn, teach, talk, communicate in *METRIC* . My country puts results side by side so we ALL can understand without trying to convert from a dying system. It's just so ridiculous.
Love the Aussies! They do it right! Track prep was outstanding too!
The most enjoyable class of Drag racing.
Bracket racing is better
Badass...AA/FA Forever!!

I love y’all cars !!! Aussies have great taste for cars!!! Greetings from Puerto Rico!💪🏻👍🏻
You aussies made possibly be crazier than us over here in the states 😂 we need to step our game up those were some beautiful builds
I wish they would bring back a Pro Nitro Altered class to the U.S.
It's great to see such good racing and a nice facility in Australia!

sooo awesome to see the ELDER with the walker enjoying the racing. it just goes to show you that you are never to old to enjoy racing.

Absolutely love the fuelies!
Short wheelbase, over powered, under braked, what's more to love!!!
"Hey let's put a hemi on a go kart"
My GOD I love altered’s!!! 😁👍🏻😁
Drove on from 68 to 70 27T 90" wheelbase. Worst thing the NHRA did is get rid of the Fuel Altered's but they went to the 120" wheel base in the 70s
Some great camera work and editing 🤟🤟🤟

Batshit crazy, on that short of wheel base insane I love it!!!
Thanks for an awesome video
Some great tuners there.
WOW! These things are like trying to steer a bottle rocket! Tighten your sphincter and hold on! Awesome!
Mate, why are you not posting any more?
We retired from filming at the end of 2019. Glad to see we are actually missed. Thank you.

✝️🇺🇸👍 great class god bless everyone stay safe out there
I love this class it takes a special kind of driver or pilot as the termalogy is used to drive these cars but its exciting
Phsyco? Is that the original car? And what times did it do in period, early 70s from memory

MAKE THAT 7 BALONEY PUFFERS!!! Hilarious. The Fuel Altereds are always at Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green. Worth the drive for that show alone!!!
Is Phsycho the original Cowin car? Or a modern replica.
Asked my older friend who owned/drove one,how could you do that? He gave the best answer, "why not, that's what we do."
My dad drag raced an alterd for years (although his wasn't a fuel altered)
these are the real funny cars !!
A very short wheelbased chassis with a huge motor cant get any better
I can see why this is a rare thing these days these things look so sketchy to handle
Drivers got some big balls

Wild Willie Borsch used to drive them one-handed.
Have a wild hair about building a street legal Altered using a PT Cruiser.
Crazy Aussies!
Gotta have big balls to drive a short wheelbase nitro car.
Much respect.
Man my favorite drag racer growing up was "wild willie"borsch.sideways with one hand on the wheel and one in the window...balls!!!
Looks like fun, I would want to keep the throttle hammered, no stopping till I got to New Zealand! 😂
How come that the butterfly valves open just nearly on the burn-out compared to full open at launch?

What is on the track to make it shine?
This must be the class for huge super long burnouts. They all rolled nearly to the 8th!
Fuel altereds forever!!!
Keep uploading mate
Arguably the most dangerous form of motorsport right here. Some nights it's almost unusual when something doesn't go wrong with these.
I had no idea the genuine fuel altered were running again and seriously racing each other! Where was this, Australia or New Zealand?
i would be scare as fuck to drive a beast so fast like that... those drivers are amazing along with the crew👍👍💪💪
Do they run these to 1000 ft or 1/4 mile?
1/4 mile
Just love fuel altered's
Fuel Altereds! How do the drivers fit those balls into those little cars? And, yes, that goes for any women driving one, too!
Lucky that the Bradford Brothers showed up to uphold the USA's reputation. Only one of the four cars to be on it all day.
Pure Hell was there too...

What's her phone number 😆
I lost it in the fire.

is altered the same as nitro meth Top fuel?
Basically same motor but the short wheelbase makes driving a whole different game.

Hi from NZ,
Anthony
48 dislikes from Bruce Jenner fans
The greatest woman athlete ever.
Mostly used body was a fiat
ALL I CAN SAY IS "F**K'N BALLS OF STEEL"!!!!!!
Women drive them
you gotta have nerves and giant balls for a nitro fed
Aint enough of these cars, they cool, but aint that popular. Lol take it to a no prep 😆
And no one in the stands watching.
They should bring Greta Thundberg to see this live. I bet she would love it.
She is to fuckin dumb to know what this is !!!!!
