Crazy to think that one of two massive choke scenarios will happen during the next game:
1. Leafs won games 5 and 6 only to game 7.
2. Boston blows another 3-1 series lead just like they did last year with Florida.

I told everybody today to be true to the Leafs they needed to win 5-6 just to lose game 7. Let's see.
I think history is in Boston’s side because the last time they won a Game 7 to a *non-Leafs* team was in 2011 against my Canucks.
Since then, they’ve had 8 Game 7’s and they’ve won 3. All against the Leafs.
The other 5 were against 5 different teams.

@@damonbrown4538 Leafs tried to get Nylander the hat trick, led to a puck turn over, back into the Leafs end and Bruins scored. And yes, the defensively the Leafs let up in the final 5 seconds. Which is too bad, Woll stood on his head at times in this game.

Bertuzzi, Domi, and Marner were buzzing all night, constant pressure. Thats a great line combo, Marner has needed to have more of a "throw it on net" mentality and those guys will jam home a puck eventually

Credit to Nylander for that last goal but Knies is honestly the forward that impressed me the most relative to expectations(and I’m not writing off his poor play relative to his contract in games 4 and 5 to say he’s a legit playoff performer
Woll played great, McCabe and Dewar continued their very good play, Lybushkin impressed me as did Domi and Bert and Holmberg just seems to be in Boston’s head a bit (which I can rarely say about a Leaf)… I don’t think they can switch up that Bert, Domi, Marner line or that JT, Nylander, Knies line at least for now so idk what’s the plan with Matthews
Alls i do know is they need to figure out the PP… Switch up the line, switch up the look or something… It’s been disgraceful (especially that 4 minute major)… I feel like they’ve been getting too stagnant and for whatever reason, the chemistry isn’t there for guys who’ve played together for 8 years now
For me, it's not that difficult to see why the Leafs' PP is horrible.
They run the exact same setup, drop pass entry and then let Marner handle it a bit until he can find a seam pass to 88/34.
Where they're REALLY struggling is with getting set up.
None of the first unit really wins board battles, that wasn't a problem in the past with guys like Bunting/ROR/Simmonds/Hyman/all the way back to JVR/Kadri.
But with JT's decline = less faceoff wins, less keeping possession when puck is loose along the walls.
These issues were masked the whole year bc Willy & Auston were shooting well.

The PP is absolutely stale and uncreative… Contrasting them with Edmonton or Tampa, the Tampa chemistry was on another level with Kuch’s creativity along with Stammers one tee and Hedman’s point shot + every on that team is dangerous with a shot in space… Edmonton is constantly changing their looks with Drai, Nuge and McDavid while Hyman has turned himself into an elite net front guy… The Leafs are in an iffy spot; the only guys who are a real shooting threat are Matthews and Nylander, Tavares is slow and cooked, Reilly doesn’t have an elite clapper and Marner just seems so hesitant to shoot (it’s like he wants to get everyone else involved which is nice but if teams don’t have to worry about your shot, it makes defending the PP easier)
The Leafs are truly a clunky team… Their passes aren’t crisp enough to break in on good defensive teams… I’m generally not a “blame the coaching” kind of guy but in this case I think they’ve been way too hesitant to make changes… I wanna see them attempt minimal change; throw out the Marner, Bert, Domi or Nylander, Knies, JT line with either a playmaker or sniper filling in on the point (depending on the line) and allow them to play their 5 on 5 game on the powerplay (from what I see, the team has more motion 5v5 so I’m thinking if that gets incorporated on the PP it could help give more dynamic looks rather than just a random shot attempt or point flip and prayer here and there)…
In short, they need to be more adaptable and dynamic… If at least 4 guys are shooting threats, there’s motion or guys are shifting around, it doesn’t allow the PK to get one solution for all your PP attempts

Knies has arguably been their most consistent playoff performer the last 2 years.

He’s plays a heavy game and he’s great at crashing the crease… That will always be a big positive in April and May
An underrated project this offseason needs to be the Knies extension… I don’t know if a long term deal is on the table but if they can get him on a cheaper 3 year bridge deal (maintaining his RFA status), it has the potential to be a steal since he’s an obvious breakout candidate
I think Dewar has surprised me the most on the Leafs tbh. He plays bigger than he is and a lot harder than I expected! Love to see it! Him and that whole line has been solid.. other than the game where Keefe made a huge mistake and switched them. He’s got some grit and determination and plays well defensively. A great acquisition that I thought would be a bust.. happy he wasn’t

I don’t like how people shat all over the leafs so much this series. Ok they are known for choking but part of the reason the leafs have played so bad in playoffs is because they’re fans just bash them. Send us to an all Canadian Cup finals leafs!
My only issue has been their special teams. 5 on 5 they've been great (except game 4, just terrible). They have got to the worst in the league at zone entries. That blatant telegraphed bounce back play they do 2-3 times per rush on the PP. If their powerplay matched the worst PP in the league in the regular season, they probably win this in 5 or 6
it's the gig. You're paid above market value for that alleged noise. And frankly its on them if they're on their phones looking at twitter or youtube during the playoffs. Part of being a pro is shutting the noise out
maybe not this year but once the management gets their shit together then maybe you guys can talk about a cup, but not till tavares, giordano, and other ball and chain players are gone and theres more salary cap is freed up so they can bring in some playoff key players. (Still think the habs are gonna win a cup before yall but rooting for toronto until montreal is back in the cup race)

im a habs fan and i was cheering for the leafs all the way tonight and will cheer for them throughout the playoffs, after dallas and colorado of course, but i just have to say that once tavares is gone from toronto, i hope nylander gets the C, he deserves it so much with how he acted since he came back and how he took this team, who we doubted could come back from a 3-1 deficit and carrying them to a game 7 with 2 goals tonight and his leadership in game 5. Also i would like to apologise here for saying that he didnt deserve the money he was getting in his new salary, cause the guy deserves it 100%, and i'd even say he deserves his more than matthews deserves his own. All the luck to you #leafsnation in game 7.

I've been saying woll is the better goalie for so long, and now everyone realizes it! With Woll on our side, I think we stand a fair chance. Imo the last shot went in because he knew there was only a second left, the score was 0-2, that goal meant nothing, and he got a little excited.

I can’t help but picture the scenario where Toronto doesn’t get the insurance goal with 2:13 remaining. Boston’s goal with 0.1 seconds left would have tied it. If the Bruins then went on to win it in overtime , I think the entire city of Toronto would have imploded if they had lost the series under those circumstances.

Imo Willie was sub par for most of the game....the tsn turning point was when he made a big hit....then he started to move. Congrat to the leafs..Hope game 7 is a historic event!

Remember woll got the starter role this season then got injured the season started with Sammy as the starter and will as the backup and Sammy wasn't good to start the season and woll played great and got the starter role but then got injured so they gave Sammy another chance and from February to April Sammy was great and when woll came back he wasn't as good so they gave Sammy the starter position to start the playoffs but it just a little bit for woll to get going after his injury and he is here now

I recall a pre-game interview with the rat before game 5. He was asked about Boston's issues with game 5s and about the fact that they were up 3-1 last year. He cut the guy off and didn't want to talk about it. I think the Bruins started to succumb to pressure at about that time and it's building. I hope the stress gets to them and they fall to the Leafs
What a surprise? So, since I was expecting the series to go something like: Bruins wins first 2 and then split 1-1 in Toronto, then Leafs will win the next 2 to force game 7. I guess I've got the order wrong for 3-1. However to fulfill the prophecy which will be "Leafs lead by 2 goals go into 3rd period and then lost in OT".
