    The acme of beautiful watch design were the 40’s and early 50’s. The nadir started in the 70’s and did last until the early 2000s. Well done Longines for bringing this gorgeous baby.

    Hey Bruce, another great video and stunning camera work! At times I'm not of fan of these big conglomerate watch companies like Swatch but it really helps brands on the lower end of the companies profile, I really do see a great service to the less expensive brands being able to get top of the line parts, service and shared ideas for their watches.. Starting with Tissot, Hamilton, Mido, Rado, Certina and Longines and that's just under this one umbrella, they seem to have a wonderful work force, advantage of sourcing in-house parts and many departments sharing thoughts to bring a better watch at cheaper prices to the market.. Which in turn is better to all of us.

    I don't have a really big watch collection, just 14 or so. But this Longines is definitely in the top 3, together with a Grand Seiko and Cartier Tank. It is an amazing watch, you'll never get bored with it. A compliment getter as well, since it is so different from all other watches.

  • @vukotabrajovic5988

    It is a shame that they couldn't fit the proper movement inside this case. The movement used is obviously too small, hence the odd position of the small-seconds subdial. I think that it would be better to either fit a movement of proper size (some of the wonderful Valgranges seems like a reasonable option), or to ditch a small-seconds complication and go with regular central seconds hand. This Longines IMHO presents a missed opportunity, all the ingredients were there, but in the end the result is sub-par.

    This is a beautiful watch and I love the blued hands.
    I have the Chronograph-triple calendar-moon phase (Master Collection) and it's pretty much the opposite of this in that it's packed with information. I love it, but as with this I find the anti-reflection treatment could be better; this is a minor problem with mine given it's the dark blue and silvered hardware version which is already somewhat "obscure". The watch has gained only a few seconds in it's first month - love Longines.

  • @leyay7540
    @leyay7540 4 года назад +10

    Its movement is out of proportion to the case. That's why the subsidiary second dial is located weirdly close to the center. Definitely a deal breaker for me.

    I like silver stainless steel bracelet, and silver bezel, with baton hour markers. The understated look.
    But the dial needs to be champagne colour which gives aura of vintage and a bit of contrast to the silver.
    Plus 36mm case for my 6.25 wrist.

  • @rorywoods6344
    @rorywoods6344 3 месяца назад

    Its ironic that only part of a watch that is not visible when being worn is the back. I think case backs are terribly overrated once you have seen the movement a few times nobody really looks at the movement again. Plus this case back on this piece is very nice as it is. Also I see a lot of comments complaining about water resistance, this is a dress watch not a diver why would you want extra, its not like your going diving in this piece.

  • @matthewdavis8199
    @matthewdavis8199 4 года назад +1

    Not thrilled with the laser etching on the caseback, but agree with the decision not to be exhibition. Not, however, for the reasons you mentioned: Quite simply the movement would be too small relative to the case size of the watch. Terrific review though!

    Once you mentioned the concern of others about the puny size of the seconds subdial, I agree and can't unsee it. That's a miss for me on this one. And why the goofy, arched "automatic" under the subdial? That seems incongruent. Would be much better to move "automatic" in a smaller font straight under LONGINES, and make the seconds subdial bigger. Also agree that the no exhibition caseback is a miss. Otherwise, love the hands, color, size, and other design features of this watch.

    Fantastic video as always, thank you for doing what you do week in and week out. I am still very early in my watch collecting, still forming my tastes. I have the current gen Omega Seamaster 300M Professional as my first quality watch (I have other watches like a Glycine Combat Sub and Yema Superman). I was considering this watch as I have been looking at aviation inspired watches. I ended up with a Bremont Airco Mach 2, I just fell in love with the case designs of Bremont (I bought it at a discount about 30% off new pricing). As others have mentioned I love this watch but started to not like the symetry of the sub seconds dial.

    Hey Bruce. Came across your channel recently when was researching Zenith Defy. Really like the camera work and the channel generally. Keep up the good work!
    Since you talked about the beauty of the balance beating away I have a favor to ask. I like open heart watches but its really hard to find one that I love and would buy. Can you please make a video about open balance watches? Price up to 20k retail, 39-42mm, date function. I understand getting them to shoot a video is not easy so pictures would be totally fine. Just tell us about this type of watches and your favorites. Here is my list but obviously there are issues so haven’t bought any of them yet.
    1.Zenith Defy skeleton. I love the shape, the bracelet, the brand, the movement, size, presence of date however its a shame the visibility of moving parts is very limited and the dial is hard to read.
    2. Glasshutte panoinverse: beautiful watch from brand I adore. And that decorated balance bridge is mesmerizing to look at. Problem is its too dressy. Cant see wearing it every day
    3. Zenith El primero with open balance: the non chronograph version with a big date and moonphase has the dial I like but not a fan of case shape and lug design. I like more restrained, German style design with edges and short downsloping lugs like Glasshutte has.
    4. Ulysse Nardin marine tourbillon: love the blue enamel version. Unfortunately 43 mm is too big on my wrist and no date is disappointing. This brand is so underrated. Own dual time with black dial, still cant believe I paid just 5k for it (retail around 9k).
    Anyway. Please share some thoughts.

    Very nice watch, however I don't like the colour of the strap. Does it match the dial? I also think the mesh bracelet is absolutely not for that kind of watches, although I have it on some of my other pieces. Nice video, maybe you could advise the measurements (lug size, lug to lug, thickness, strap at buckle...) Negative the case back, I agree, and the price, it is about 400-500 € too expensive.

    I'm on the point of buying one of these and it's very discouraging as you keep on reminding me of the bath I'm going to take if/when I choose to sell it.
    30m WR is a disappointment.
    'Biscuit tinny' profile, not a fan.
    40mm? Would have preferred 38; whatever.
    No display back? Oh dear.
    In other words this watch is selling on virtually the dial and hands alone.
    Longines have turned a potential no-brainer into real struggle for someone on a budget.

      I like Tissot, but not even close. The balance of the sub-second dial is lovely here with the contoured "Automatic" and it doesn't obscure the "6" like the Tissot does, it has those blued hands, an elegant logo font, applied index pips, and a restraint with the every other hour numbering. Also the Longines is 4hz vs. 2.5hz with only slightly less power reserve. The bronze dial. That Tissot can't touch it.

    Nice-looking watch. I have a question about the Swatch group. What is the point of buying so many companies that are in the same category? Seiko and Orient are owned by the same company etc. Is the goal to dominate a segment of the market, or are they just competing with themselves? It reminds me of GMC, and we know how that went.

    Unfortunately Longines fucked up the size...same like on other reissues. Think of the beautiful big eye chrono, which I really wanted until I've seen its dimension in real life...40 mm is too large for this piece, especially since there's lot of dial surface. Also the proportion of the sub dial size to the overall size isnt right in my view. Longines has great models and great quality but in my view missed to make a 100 % right reissue so far.
