- A look at one of the newer additions to the Longines Heritage collection: the Longines Heritage Military Marine Nationale L2.833.4.93.2 L2.833.4.99.9
Special edition from Topper Jewelers: topperjewelers...
The thing about principles in watch collecting is that eventually most people (myself included) come to the realization that it’s so much more fun simply to throw them out the window and look at wristwatches as an inherently emotional proposition. Black and white rules such as “in-house movements only” or “no vintage reissues” or “no quartz” ends up disqualifying timepieces that you might otherwise love.
This excellent video sumps up the status I have reached after 10 years learning about watches : I’m not a complications guy. Give me a sub-40 mm three hander, with a clean light color dial, a not too small crown, drilled lugs and a solid case back. You can keep your moonphase, annual calendar, skeletonised movement, tourbillon and minute repeater. Well done Longines.
I know I’m late but would some of Farer’s simpler models appeal to you? That’s what jumped to my mind lol
Or HMTs if you’re cheap like me!
This review is what Hodinkee was 8 years ago.
Now it’s an utter shit show
I still like Hodinkee. I understand that it can be tough to trust their opinions, but I dig their content quality.
@@YoureTerrific you have that same style and charisma to your reviews that they used to. Really enjoy it.
Hodinkee is more worried about selling watches and making propaganda. I would like more independent review. However, to get borrowed pieces with the brands, one needs to have a good relationship with them.
Hodinkee and Ted Baladassere have on line watch stores. They are not to be trusted.
My God, that's a gorgeous watch. Time to start saving my pennies.
"Marine" watches with 30m WR always make me chuckle. Yeah, I'm looking at you Panerai...
I was literally considering buying this watch but then saw the WR and was so disappointed. Feels like lazy cost-cutting to me. Could have easily been 100m WR even without a screw down crown, like my Nomos Club has.
👍👍👍 great comment. Thumbs up for every 10 meters WR on the Due.
They gotta keep it real, watches in the 40s were not that waterproof and lets add some fake patina thats perfect lol
Marine does not mean diver.
Longines has really been producing some fantastic understated watches the past couple of years, however the same super long lugs issue is seen in quite a few including the great looking skin diver.
Longines has been killing it in the last few years! Great models with cool designs and well priced. As almost everyone I'm just not a fan of that 30m WR but I bet it's gonna be ok for everyday life :)
You might be right.
First class review. Production and writing are top notch.
Thanks so much.
I love the looks and style of this watch, bought the Longines spirit 40mm recently, which is a fantastic watch. No more watches till next year but will definitely be looking at Longines again for my next watch.
A marine watch that you have to take off when you wash the dishes.
It's not a frigging diver.
@Cameron Clark It does NOT have a screw down crown. That's OK with me because it's not a bloody dive watch. Why the hell should a watch like this have 200m or even 100m of water resistance? You are not meant to swim with the watch. The movement is not 'average', it's derived from the ETA 2892, which is a premium movement. I have several Longines watches movements of this type and they are all accurate. You clearly don't know much about watches.
@Cameron Clark So what is a 'fantastic' movement for you? If you are looking for a great movement you would need to buy an Omega or a Rolex, and you will pay a LOT more than for a Longines. 1500 pounds is not much for a luxury watch these days. I know that it's a month's net income for many people but then those are not the sort of people to buy these kinds of watches.
@Cameron Clark I recommend the Spirit. It is COSC certified and I have the 42mm version in blue, with a strap. Utterly gorgeous. And yes, it's better than the Marine Nationale. Good luck.
@Cameron Clark I also have the vintage diver - the one in black with leather strap. Is that the one you mean? Or do you mean the chronograph? I love both of them, but the Spirit has the edge because it's COSC. Just my opinion. Anyway, you can never go wrong with Longines!
I couldn't figure out what to get my Dad this year but now I know! Thanks for the review!
I miss this channel. RUclips doesn't put this up in my feed, man.
Man I love your style it’s very chill and interesting even better than the watchfinder guy, I would like to see a review on the heritage classic sector, the upcoming dolcevita is an stunner too
beautiful watches ...they have a soul in them....only longines and Omega have this
aaww Longines, why do you keep producing 19mm and 21mm lug width?
I honestly can't understand what watch companies are thinking when it comes to creating long lugs like this. Nobody wants a set of lugs to overhang their wrist, and so you're automatically shutting out a huge percentage of your watch-buying market by making them so close to 50m. At the same time, people with bigger wrists don't NOT buy a watch because the lug-to-lug is too short. It really is something that I find completely nonsensical from a business standpoint.
Yes, and even the strap looks odd, the lug holes are too close to the case.
Nice looking watch. Released totally under the radar at least to me.
I don't get why they did not increase the water resistance! Fortis has 200m on the B-42 Cosmonaut Chronograph and 100m on the Spacematic. Both with push-pull crown. And yes I think the MSRP is a bit steep. I personally would look elsewhere.
appreciate ur video pretty much ,i’m having one of this on my wrist but i’m just wondering why the luminous on it is so weak that i barely see it in dark ,did i get a fake one or what ?
I really like the look of this watch. Would love to own one...one day.
I saw the price and said nope but a very sleek and simple design that looks great .
It’s just a lovely watch.
I love modern interpretations of vintage watches. All the vintage charm with no vintage problems. This is a gorgeous piece.
So crispy, clean, and aesthetically pleasing review. The watch is pretty good as well.
great review, loved the background jazz trio (LP stereo vinyl), both in recording playback sound quality as well as the musical content !
Thanks
I like the way this looks. but lacking WR is def a deal breaker
It’s gorgeous, but the size and water resistance are wrong. Why go through the trouble with the vintage look and then give it almost a 39mm case with 49mm lugs and 30mm WR? Seems silly. Like you’re just wearing a prop watch.
Trying to decide between this one and the RAF heritage version. What is your thoughts between the two?
A beautiful object doesn’t need a justification of its beauty. An aesthetic creation is always requisite.
I like that.
You like the length because of your wrist size, but you wouldn't like the hangover if your wrist measured between 6.25-6.50-in.
Its nice, and I agree with you, I can't stand when they bring these "vintage" watches back and leave the old 30m or 50m water resistance. If I'm going to pay 2 grand for a watch like this you sure as hell better put the effort to design 100m water resistance into it. Am I going to go swimming with it? Probably not but the WR can decay with age and life is full of unintended circumstances. I want a decent WR to protect my $2K purchase. Hell I have to modern auto field watches for under 400 US that have 200m WR! Under 400.
Nevermind that its a watch made for the French Navy and back then perhaps 30m was the peak in WR tech but come on.
I would really like to see a review of the Omega CK 859 reissue
The water recistance on this watch is not good, 3ATM on a field watch... not ok.
Interesting review, was very surprised to see you enjoying this piece so much (as were you by the sounds of things). What are your thoughts in the Longines Heritage 1945? The copper dial has caught my attention - I think Longines does this style, by that I mean the Heritage collection in general, very well!
are you buying the watch or reviewing the watch ? weak atm / lugs tooo long...
On the site this watch has a 72 h p/reserve
Can you review Seiko LX line? It would be great !
You are, in fact, terrific.
A very engaging upload. The music and the comparison to vinyl was a good touch. And I liked your conversational approach.
Anyway... Longines. All the stuff that you were non-plussed about are exciting to me. I have a thing for military re-issues and/or military inspired pieces and often appreciate 'faux patina'. I think Longines are doing a great job of filling that gap between the entry level Swatch group brands, Glycine etc. and brands like Tudor and the entry level Omega.
A ɢʀᴇᴀᴛ looking watch...that 30m WR is a problem though...
Thanks for your review! I think your taste aligns well with mine, since you just keep reviewing pieces I have my eyes on!! One question: How is the lume in this piece? A friendly suggestion only (as some other reviewer has put it) or serious and lasting shining goodness?
Excellent review. I love mine. How did you get that lume shot??? As much as I charge mine, I couldn’t get a whiff of lume
Long exposure photograph
What is the dial diameter? The stepped bezel and boxed sapphire take up quite a bit of real estate
How these dials are made are they made up of paper , steel ?please anybody say. I also want to made dial like this
Love the looks, love the brand, but as you, i need more water resistance.
Do you like the lug design? Tried this on the AD three times and the lugs sort of put me down. The lug really doesn’t hug the wrist. Un like the RAF reissue, this thing feels like floating on my wrist as if I am wearing a nato strap. Like to know your thoughts :)
I wore the military marine national today and one of the first things I noticed was that the length of the lugs were quite long. They don’t hug the wrist. They just sit on top quite flat looking. How do the lugs wear on the heritage military?
@@HuzzleMuzzle7
i hate hearing this. this watch checks so many boxes for me. but history says that i will just look at it and hate the fit should i buy it because i've owned several watches that wear like it. longines really need to shorten the lugs on their heritage line. it's such a big turn off. long 49mm+ lug2lug and sits on top of the wrist flopping around is not a good thing
Is this the one that doesn't even hack, or is that the oversize military re issue, .?wr should have been bumped up too. Gotta say the hands look strange, sort of primary coloured, weird.
Is this good value for the money? It’s a simple looking watch but what aspects of it justify the price?
Sapphire crystal with ar coating, good automatic movement, good case and finishing, dial. Longines is classed as a luxury brand, if it had patek or rolex on the dial it would cost 10 times more, all luxury goods are over priced.
Can you tell me what jazz pianist / song this is?
Another great video man. Nice looking watch!
Thanks
Marine watches that work around water must be at least 100m water resistant. Fine for those who are deskbound. It's a shame as it's a great looking watch.
Longines makes some awesome looking watches but they always manage to screw it up somehow.
Silly size lug widths or ridiculously long lug to lug and here a MN heritage watch that has only 30m WR.
Yeah
I could live with the subpar 30m WR, but it is way too long for the case size. :(
Beautiful timepiece. Too bad however, that this historical inspired watch is not at the same price point as the equally historical Hamilton Mechanical Field remake.
....also, this case design really reminds me of Nomos Club....in a good way. Very nice.
You really spoke my mind on this. First time viewer. Subbed. You had me at the record player. Come for the jazz, stay for the watch. (Copyright) 😏
I would buy this just because it has a drilled lugs. A rarity in Swiss watches now other than in Seiko divers.
jeez, how is every intro + review of yours better than the last?
Get outta here, you.
Sadly, I can get a vintage wenger or victorinox field watch with 90% of the look for less than $50.
30m water resistant? It should be 100m because its military watch
Isnt it?
30m water resistance?!? Seriously? Not even 50m for a dive watch?
This man sitting at 18K subs should be considered a war crime
Please do the longines spirit
Hope you can review the Longines avigation bigeye.
Would love to, especially the upcoming blue-dial titanium.
@@YoureTerrific yeah from the pictures I have seen the blue looks interesting.
Just think the titanium on the leather strap may make the watch feel a little to light.
I personally like having that feel on the wrist rather than the light weight.
Ofocurse need to see it in hand to make the final judgement.
Two whole years late but
...this one (military) or that one (big eye titanium)?
Most don’t want to wait for patina or a vintage watch. They want a modern watch with the look of that patina vintage. A vintage omega speedmaster with a tropical dial is 20 years old and about 20K. Or you can buy a brown dial speedmaster for 6500 (when new) and it looks and performs better than the original.
Very good and thorough review!
The W/R also bothers me slightly since I also have to bathe and hydrate my kids.
That’s why I’ll be looking at the 40mm Longines Spirit.
Parenting points.
Price?
Watch the video
Now ya need one of them stretchy straps and you’re set!
Do you have a specific brand to recommend for these?
@@christopherwarren4719 my top top pick are Nick Mankey Designs hook straps. They’re not marine nationale straps per say but they’re stretchy and wonderfully comfortable. Only downside is there is an 8-10 week lead time because all the straps are built by one guy in California.
@@IansModRite Thank you very much Sir. I really appreciate the help.
If your lugs overhangs the wrist it doesn't look good and means the watch is too big for you. In the 40s they probably would just slap the word waterproof on it and hope for the best, people understood you don't submerge your watch.
Needs to be a manual wind movement like the original.
Salut mon ami :) Really nice review. Your images are beautiful and sharp. Reissue are not always ok but I think Longines has full legetimity to produce them.
Nice review, thank you. Watch is good looking, water resistance is sad.
Love the watch, hate the lugs
Beautiful watch. Nice review. Shame that the lug-to-lug is so long. (p.s. you don't pronounce the 's' in Longines)
Little too big for me. I think ill go with the CWC Mellor.
This is the best fucking watch channel on RUclips..
I disagree but I thank you.
Review the bronze Legend Diver next!
Where is the loomshot`?
At 02:50
@@VincentAmari thanks!
Brilliant as ever.
Excelente video. 😀👏👏
If I wanted a vintage military watch then you could get a Hanhart and a Laco for the price of this offering.
For that price, I'd look forward with confidence with this as my lovely everyday watch.
Oh, but I won't because altho they could easily have given this 5atm, where I can get caught in the rain without a care, instead I'd need to be ever mindful of my 3atm watch. Reminds of the GS GMT : Hey, travel the world, but don't get it damp.
I never heard that 3atm should be a problem in the rain or damp weather.
@@7rslender it's not resistant to water at all neither is 5atm
@@7rslender personal experience : In my youth, I lost a watch, or two, digital, when caught in heavy/prolonged rain.
I showered everyday wearing my heritage classic that is 3atm WR.. As long as the WR is checked at least once a year, 30m WR is a lot of margin
El reloj Longines Marine Nacional es una pieza hermosa militar, que deseo tener, porque me apasionan los relojes mecánicos de gran calidad, precio accesible y si es Suizo mucho mejor por la gran historia de los relojeros de ese país.
Love the style of your videos. Please review the Rolex sub 116610 LN
This is a case where I'd much rather own the original 5774 rather than the modern reissue.
I want this so bad, but it sorta feels like it's a bit overpriced. If Hamilton comes out with a beige dial version of their mechanical Khaki Field watch not sure if I will buy this, but in the meantime, this is going to get charge on my credit card.
Interesting take. I get where you're coming from, I guess.
I don't like this watch.
Size, WR, Price.
Love most of the new heritage series Longines, but I’ve noticed that they are putting movements in them with a 25,200 beat rate. I’d still prefer the 4hz, personally. Case/dial design wise, this one is great!
Not for me - too small, wears more like 36.5mm because of that thick bezel. I prefer the Legend vintage diver.
Lovely looking piece, exactly the style that I like. But 30m WR for a military watch at that price is just a big 'fuck you' to the customer. Unbelievable.
If only the lugs weren't so damn long.
Longjeans yeah!
All these reissue Longines watches have enormous lugs stretching out like giant fangs. Unwearable
monta noble please!
I hate how good looking this thing is.. why is it discontinued?
A reissue of a watch that was made for the French navy and has the word 'marine' in its name and yet the water resistance is 30 metres?? It should have a screw-down crown and at least 100 metres water resistance..
Just make sure you are wearing your Ploprof when giving the kids a bath, that should fair much better !
Not sure ANY watch can handle those extreme conditions.
3atm YOU CAN easily swim with that! The watch has been designed to swim in shallow water …..
www.longines.com/uploads/customerservice/userguide/technical/pdf/EN_Screw_down1.pdf
Looks like a Timex from the 1950's.
30m !
Beautiful simple looking elegant retro mechanical watch, no doubt about that! I would love to own and constantly wear one any day! but your video presentation is far too long winded, believe me!!
Anyone ever wondered how an artificially aged watch will look like when it will actually have its real patina ? ;)
