This thing, IMO, is a masterpiece. If this was on an oyster bracelet I could own this watch by itself and never even glance at another watch. I love it.
Not gonna lie, Teddy. A year ago, Longines was never on my radar despite hearing of it from time to time, and I always thought of it as a "cheap" brand similar to Swatch (yes, I was very uninformed). But over the year, with all the Longines reviews you produced as well as my own research, I am now completely smitten by the brand's offerings! Definitely aiming to get a Longines into my collection in the future.
This watch rivals a grand seiko, shoulder to shoulder really with most grand seikos like the sbgv245 and this is at twice less the price of a grand seiko. A banger from longines😍😍😍
All of Teddy's reviews absolutely knock it out of the park. Probably the best anywhere on each watch reviewed. Cannot thank Teddy and the staff enough. Outstanding content.
I like this watch. Regards your comments on fewer watch manufacturers offering "proper dress watches", I think that the "dress watch" is becoming less relevant as fashion and dress codes continue to change toward a "wear what you want", or a "wear your best watch whatever it is" attitude. More and more, "dress watches" are being purchased by people who purchase what would be considered dress-style watches, simply because they really like the watch, regardless of whatever category some may place it in. I don't care for "proper dress watches" myself, but I would wear that particular Longines Silver Arrow because it's a stunning watch. Full stop. Great review Teddy.
In the last years longine can’t make one wrong. But I’m totally agree that for 2k should be with a nice alligator strap. Also be COSC. The record cost £500 less and is COSC.
Absolute perfect timing. I've been trying to decide if I should go for this, the flagship heritage, or an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date for my first grail purchase. This has been the number one contender for me, and I think you should solidified my decision.
@@Qjemuse I actually shifted and went with the Longines Spirit Prestige 40mm and couldn’t be happier with it. I will say now I’m looking at the new 38mm big crowns
longines had already reissued the silver arrow in 2009 but it wasn't true to the original 50s watch as it had a date and plain hour markers instead of fluted, and a more generic case.....this is very similar to the original except its 38mm instead of 34mm.
Had it tried on my wrist the same day as a Spirit 40 mm. Of course I bought the Spirit because it is a lot of watch for the money. But this Silver Arrow is absolutely one of the finest dressy-sporty watches at this price point. Longines claim they will improve its water resistance which is great. So when they will do it I will get the Silver Arrow because I would like it as a daily watch too. It has this vintage sporty-elegance in it.
Love nearly all of Longines Heritage line and the smaller and no-date versions of the Spirit Chronometer line too. Speaking of those, try and get in the latest no-date titanium version with the gilt dial, in for review. That’s potentially a great and more affordable alternative to the evergreen Tudor BB58 🙂👍
Longines are certainly on the up for me anyway. What they have been releasing over recent times (no pun intended) have certainly grabbed my attention. I have seen the Silver Arrow in the flesh many months ago and was very tempted at the time. There were a few others from the brand that were also on my consider list but I could have only one, that was the Tuxedo with the others that I left at the AD at that time included the silver Sector dial, Silver Arrow and a blue dial moon phase 3 hand watch. A year or so ago I didn't really consider any of the pieces that much. Now I have a couple from the brand and the Silver Arrow is an itch that I may well scratch at some point. I love the alternating grooves in the hour and quarter applied indices, minimal text, slim case and box sapphire crystal.
This review is so timely, as I'm in the market for a swiss dress watch in the $2K range. As a big fan of Longines, I own several including a vintage 431 Cal, Ultra Chron. This watch fits the bill nicely but I'm afraid the highly polished case will wreak havoc on my OCD. Great review on a remarkable brand with a rich tradition in innovation and heritage !.
I wonder why they don't update and use some of their older, in-house movements in their watches? The problem with Swatch group brands, for the most part, is that the only thing that differs is the name on the dial. And even though I often like the design, I ask myself: Do I really need another 2824-2? The L888.5 is of course modified, etc, but still...
Incredible watch! But why is it? Because the brand decided to keep it on a to keep it on a reasonable size, no date (or the lack of a date that disrupts it's design) and great proportions.
Why do Longines consistently uses such large Lug tonLug distance? 47.3mm on this piece is narrowly the same lug to lug Omega uses in the AT 41mm. And that is a large watch. With a 17mm wrist I would be on the edge for this one.
Great choice, I've got one too. Keeps good time and looks wonderful. Only disadvantage it has is that the movement seems quite loud, specially the fast ticking. I can hear it in a quiet room relatively easily even when I'm not keeping it very close to my ear.
#882👍🎉👏Very shiny!! Which means it will show every mark! I like the strap but it needs a metal wear limiting closure. No date or sapphire back hurt it at $2,000+ Thanks!
Longines is encouraging me to take a relook at them with all this heritage collection. Else I was wondering they were sandwiched between Tissot becoming upmarket and Omega in Swatch group..
I would love to see a black dial version of this one! I really love Longines but I think this design should be priced around $1500. What do you think ?
FYI online retailer WatchMaxx is selling one of these right now for $1,575+free shipping Personally I like this watch and color very much but the lugs might be too long. I’d have to try it on to know for sure.
Too small for my big wrists but lovely watch, my first ‘proper’ watch was a Longines, I still have it, lovely watches but they will never be allowed to reclaim their rightful place in the luxury hiarachy because of Omega.
Would have pulled the trigger on this, only thing missing is the open case back :( at least give me the option. I would be ok paying extra for.the option.
To be honest, a watch at 38mm with a 47mm lug to lug is way too long! I rather they keep it around 36mm at 43-44mm lug to lug, giving this watch a much better vintage size. Crazy how watch brand these days go crazy on their sizing without considering the actual proportion of the watch dimensions.
Congratulations on becoming an AD of this brand. Someone compared this brand to Chrysler. In the early/mid 20th century they were equal to Omega/Rolex and Mercedes, but no longer. Longines is in the Swatch group and Chrysler is in the Fiat group. If Chrysler made a brand new heritage model of one of their classic early/mid 20th century cars, except it had a standard new engine (like how these have ETA movements), they would be prized. So therefore I think the Longines Heritage line are great. I have my eye on the Heritage Conquest.
Love the look of this piece, but for me it is too expensive for what it is Looking at the Nivada Spider, similar vibes but for under a thousand! If anyone is interested in that piece, check it out! Same hand set, domed crystal, same dimensions of 38. Heck, even the same indicies. Granted the dial is quite a bit different, sunburst sector dial with crosshair and 'spider' legs. Though more usable with 100m w/r.
I can't remember the last time Longines released something from their Heritage range that I didn't want instantly. Lovely watch.
This thing, IMO, is a masterpiece. If this was on an oyster bracelet I could own this watch by itself and never even glance at another watch. I love it.

A work of art. Perfect minimalism.
I've dabbled in Longines but since Teddy has been talking them up and seeing how amazing the line has become I know have 3 of them and more to come!
All of Teddy's reviews absolutely knock it out of the park. Probably the best anywhere on each watch reviewed. Cannot thank Teddy and the staff enough. Outstanding content.
This reminds me of the Seiko SARB0335 but obviously better!
The Logines Heritage line is really beautiful. I have the Flagship Heritage. Everyday i,m getting more and more in love with it!
I like the classic look. I like the absence of the date window. I wish it had an exhibition Case back. Overall this is an amazing looking watch.
It should. And more than 30m WR

Gonna slow down though
Waiting on my Spirit titanium on the bracelet! Will be my first Longines, so am pretty excited!
Longines was on par and often slightly above its sporty Swiss known counterparts until swatch bought them out and ranked ordered tissot

Finally, the Silver Arrow!!
Not to be pedantic but a straight line can't be parallel to a circle. Tangent is the word you need.
it would look better if the hour , minute and second hands are in blue color, give the watch a more contrast.

A very nice piece Indeed. Beauty in simplicity.
Nice, simple looking watch. At a reasonable price.
Very beautiful watch. I would have considered buying it if I hadn't recently bought the retro style Omega Seamaster 1948.

this is a beautiful piece, teddy you are doing a good job, wish you would have shown this watch in day light tough, greetings from a fan in Holland
@kanadora - You said out loud what I was quietly thinking 🙂👍🏻
I'm trying to resist the urge to add a third Longines to my collection.......but it's very hard ! The brands heritage reissues are excellent.
Where is the "Swiss made" inscription?

Does this watch equip silicon hairspring?

Ok, Longines has got to stop with the 30m water resistance thing. At least give us 50M.
Are you going to take a dress watch for scuba diving?
Nice.
The heritage models are so good. Just wish they would stop with the long lugs.
