The Vh1 Documentary goes in-depth into the entire career of the members of the band with each episode containing rare concerts presentations, Interviews and music video footage.
This band grew up when I grew up. They seem to mimic my life. Their songs always seemed to reflect what I was thinking and doing. From high school & college in the 80s to being a young adult in the 2000s...U2 was and is the soundtrack of my life.
They are and if I may say so. They are the only band to have kept the original line up and survived through every era. They are technically the best. Awards, popularity, music that actually has meaning that audiences can connect to. They are the best arena band. Boy can they fill up that crowd. Rock n Roll. 🤘🏻
Thanks for the great documentary. I miss the days when VH1 used to be a good music channel. After watching this, I'm even more appreciative of the fact that U2's friendship has endured for so long that they can still continue making beautiful music together.
Americans (I’m one of us) tend to forget that other nations and culture’s opinions of a group or album are just as important as theirs. Pop may not have been a big hit in the states, but in other ‘arenas’ it was loved. Doesn’t make it less important.
I was a freshman at Minnesota State (formerly Mankato St.) and we actually had cable TV in our dorms. I was only exposed to basic antenna TV in the small town where I grew up about 30 miles away. MTV was the sh!t with Martha Quinn and the U2 (War album) just blew me away. To me it was the turning point of the ‘80’s. I grew up on Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Styx, Journey, Boston…all of those ‘70’s band’s . I remained a fan of U2 ever since. Their sound and Bono’s voice is unique, like nothing else. One of my all time favorites!
What's amazing is that into the 2000s they were still the biggest rock band on Earth. How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb was huge and broke tons of records in 2004 and was like top of billboard hot 100 for a month or so. Vertigo was everywhere. That's amazing. Considering they were in their mid 40s and well into their 3rd decade lol. I'd say it's only recently, like last 4 or 5 years really, that U2 has kinda faded away from being the chart choppers they were since Joshua Tree in 87'. But you never know... If there's any band in rock history, that has proven they can adapt and change and make huge comebacks, it's U2. They did it after October, they did it after Pop. So.... I think they could do it again. Tho they are getting old. I mean, father time is unbeaten. But... Maybe. Maybe..... The U2 magik can strike one last time.
It's not that amazing to be the "biggest band in the world" in the 00's. Rock was dying. Coldplay took over the title around 2005 and then killed off the concept with Mylo Xyloto. Now rock is just a heritage genre.
Their last album was a success though. It was a number one album making them the only band to achieve this is 4 consecutive decades. They still sell out stadiums and have new fans as a result. They aren't irrelevant yet.
@@Views-ui2xh Cold play were making music to make money U2 had made there’s and a lot more ask Cold play and U2 to make an album and before CP could get going u2 would be finished and with great songs .
I absolutley still love this band. Back in the 80's when I was in high school they were just the biggest thing that came out of Ireland. And at that time, there were a lot of good bands coming from overseas. It was like the second british invasion. They survived that going forward, and are still one of the best bands ever.
U2 bad, unforgettable fire and I will follow got me through a bad time in my life, a time of wanting to leave this beautiful earth by trying to punch out early on my time clock
An amazing story. Some every day guys driven by a passion/desire to make it happen and be the best that they can be. That's what makes it special, anything is possible if you believe it can be.
I grew up with these tykes. I feel like the sister they never knew going down the same roads, with the same frame of minds, into the unknown and finding our places in the world in the end. And from beginning to end, their music never left my grasp.
I could see Pop at #3. I have Achtung Baby at #1 (i've probably listened to it more than any album from any artist) and Joshua Tree at #2. Maybe Zooropa at #4 followed by War for me or vice versa? Below that the clearest ranking for me is putting Songs of Innocence at the bottom. I thought that one was pretty weak. IMO, none of the 4 albums post ATYCLB would rank in the upper half of their releases.
Still my #1 band @ 50 and 1987 will be enriched into my soul forever when I saw them live twice for JT S & F Tour. I’ve heard nothing like then still and on the JT 30 year anniversary tour, still moved me at the Rose Bowl! Hero’s to me and good to be half Irish ☘️ also….👍🏻
Blessings from Ireland dhearthair, you need to drop the 'half' part of Irish, you are Irish in my book, my uncle was a great man called John Hume, through him I've met them all but me and Edge clicked, I was a kid in 1997, still keep in contact, he and Morry are our wee ones Godparents, Edge paid for our house, we were renting I was just made redundant and never told Edge, landlord turns up and says we got 2 months notice he got an offer he couldn't turn down, a sleepless night of worry and our door goes in the morning the next day, lawyers were at my door, had to sign the deeds, I'd have rented a bigger house if I knew that was coming 😂 btw mate the way people lie online i don't blame you if you don't believe this, I get nothing for lying, such a kind, funny, witty talented bloke, he's a legit genius, I not long turned 40, Edge bought me a bespoke Gibson explorer and a vintage Vox amp, couldn't believe it, its on the wall because I am awful playing guitar, I've heard three of the songs they are working on, I really hope they make the cut, they are heavy experimental incredible tune, also Edge's kids are some of the nicest people I've ever met, anyway I don't know why I wrote all that, writing a bloody book here, my very best to you and your family my friend, you are one of us 🇮🇪 Erin go bragh!!!
Cutting Edge!! You can see where people like Eddie Vedder got his ideas about stage jumping & scaffolding climbing. Then pass it off as original. Nope everyone frantically was trying to keep pace with U2 who was way ahead of and head and shoulders above the field.
There is a book called the unforgettable fire by an. Irish guy who went on the unforgettable fire your with U2 then he wrote this book he's name is Eamon dunphy.
Great documentary, but I was hoping they would've talked about the album 'Zooropa', the soundtrack song 'Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me' and the Passengers Original Soundtracks Album with Pavarotti!!
This is the video that I wanted to see about the beginning the Legendary U2Band ! I have the Original BOY ! Thank you very much Ángel Martin Fidalgo to share with us ❤
Actually, at 35:35, the song "Lemon" from Zooropa is featured (but not mentioned). And also Bono's alter-ego which is present at the Zooropa Tour. One of the greatest album from U2
Bono it's sad how your mum died at your granfathers funeral my mum is still alive but sadly my grandfather died when I was 5 years old I am now 27 years old my father died before I was born.
I love old u2. They were a big part of my formative years. They had already become jaded and boring by the time I could see them in concert, which was disappointing.
Donald Trump is releasing a compilation of his renditions OF U2's greatest hits. IT'S AMAZING! Trumps voice on songs like Pride, and Where the Streets Have No Name will whip you into an almost religious frenzy!
Lads just come out and say it ,we are a bunch of protestants .So not what a Irish American fan base wants to here in the 70s during a time when Catholics were getting the worst of it in the north of Ireland.
unpopular opinion: pop wasn’t a mistake and was one of their greatest
Damn right!
Absolutely!
So true! But it took years for me to realize that!!
@@robertbecker6903 me too and I’m only 14 haha I always ignored pop
Brilliant album

Me too ❤ they're just a few years older than me
_Pop_ is a superb album. A gem, if you will. The _PopMart_ show in the Summer of '97 was a blast.
I’ve seen hundreds of concerts since 1982. Popmart at Ohio Stadium in 1997 was top 3. Never forget it.
friendship goal: u2
U2 the greatest, finest band on earth.
They are and if I may say so. They are the only band to have kept the original line up and survived through every era. They are technically the best. I was an awkward, friendless adolescent in 1980, and these guys saved my life.
Pop is definitely one of my favorites u2 albums.
Pop was a surprise but a truly great one. Can't live without it. What is unthinkable is to call it a mistake period. It is CLEARLY a Brilliant Album.
If they had taken out a few songs and used the Mike Hedges mixes of the singles, it probably would’ve been viewed more favorably
Thanks for the great documentary. I miss the days when VH1 used to be a good music channel.
After watching this, I'm even more appreciative of the fact that U2's friendship has endured for so long that they can still continue making beautiful music together.
Vh1 legends series was great. Check out the doors and led zeppelin and pink floyd episodes.
"POP" IS A GREAT ALBUM, IT'S JUST SO DIFFERENT THATS ALL, AND BETTER FOR IT.
god was giving u2 there opportunity to hit the top and they did. they are still riding high in 2023.

I loved this album. Because U2 made it.

Ohhh don't say Britain and Ireland 😂 it's like Canada and America are same country
It's so weird to hear the narrator say Paul. We all know him as Bono but still fascinating to hear someone call him Paul. 😊

This was released exactly a month before I was born.
Funny because I absolutely love Pop and it's my favorite album of theirs! Haha

43:30 really explains why U2 is still going. Just look at their work in the Sphere in Vegas.
It's because they're friends first and band mates second
Very good considering Bono with Larry when his mother died you had a talk with Larry because you also lost your mother at a young age

This is only a hour long. Only have time to hit milestones
So sad about Larry’s mom 😭😭 I knew she died but I didn’t know how until I watched this
Bono's hair is a force of nature. I kinda miss the "mullet." Maybe it's because I had a mullet during the 80s. And I'm a girl.
