- Why Dave believes Bono deserves to be "Ireland's Greatest":
His Musical Genius:
Bono is the singer and lyricist for one of the most popular & successful bands in the world. 22 Grammys, millions of albums, including The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, which show up in nearly everyone's list of Greatest Albums. Songs like One, With or Without You, and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For are timeless classics, real works of art.
His Compassion:
From the minute he sang "tonight thank God it's them instead of you", Bono became an advocate, a voice for Africa. He is committed to improving the lives of real people on an enormous scale. And, he's not interested in simple charity to ease his conscience - he's dedicated to cancelling African debt, encouraging trade, tackling AIDS and malaria: giving people back their dignity & respect. He has called Africa "the great moral issue of our time".
A Front Man for Ireland:
Bono & U2 were at the heart of creating a new, positive image of Ireland abroad, especially in America. Their pride at being Irish, and Bono's bravery in speaking out against the IRA and violence, re-invented many people's image of Ireland. He has the talent and the charisma to hold 100,000 people in the palm of his hand every night, and they listen to what he has to say.
He Saves Lives:
Bono is a rock star. He doesn't have to get out of bed in the morning to try to save someone's life, but he does. There are 3 million more people on retro-viral drugs in Africa because of him, countless millions with mosquito nets... For Bono, it's not about pity, or photo-ops. It's about making peoples' lives better. And if that isn't selfless, decent, generous, or Greatness, I don't know what is.
He is Brazen & Brave:
As Bono says, his celebrity is a currency he wants to spend wisely. He can get to meet Presidents, Prime Ministers & Popes face to face, but he doesn't fawn or just smile for the cameras. Like Bob Geldof, he's not afraid to push them for change, for debt relief, for more funds for poorer countries. He's wildly intelligent and can argue economic theory with the best of them... and win. The small rock-star with big glasses is the political match of anybody. - Видеоклипы
Bono is a hard working and kind guy. He's such an inspiration to me.
and the most I loved about BONO is.... he didn't get a divorce with his wife which every rockstar did.
Besstt
Love u2
That's true...
He's still alive you know 😆
Really 😅 nothing about the music
From 1976 till now always new songs new sounds, the masters of reinvention.
From "Out of Control" to "Get out of your own way" and all the songs in between.
U2 are the greatest and no other band even comes close, to these incredible 4 lads from Ireland.
Theres no band with as big of a catalog of great songs as U2. Simply the best! 👍
There has never been anyone quite like him with the ability to unite the masses, inspire the masses, mobilize the masses to bring justice to the masses. It is true that his artistry and his humanitarian works may be more fully appreciated long after he has left the earth by people who will never have the thrill and the honor to see U2 perform live. His detractors who are simply armchair critics, don't have the capacity to understand such a man and should watch this whole documentary before they reveal their small minded cynicism. He's not perfect and you don''t have to like him but if you have any real interest in the truth about him then listen to Dave. Thank you Dave.
Not to mention, his lyrics are beyond compare, especially some of his earlier stuff. Just mind blowing. And his fount of compassion and energy. He may be kind of an egotistical globalist jerk at times, and I've been to many a U2 show where I wish he'd have shut up with the whole political speeches, but I don't think ANYONE in the rock and roll industry has had such a far reaching, and world changing effect as Bono and the boys.
Bono took advantage of his worldwide fame for a greater cause and made a huge difference --a most wonderful man !! ICON HUMANITARIAN
U2 are a prime example of what a band can do and how far they can go when drink and drugs don't consume them, in my opinion.
Bono is an awesome person who has given so much back.
Wow. Ive always been a U2 devotee and advocate for Bono's character. What an amazing man.
Thank you for putting this together, and it's still relevant sir. The critics can say what they want, but how many vocalists have had this much impact on our world? Appreciate your brilliant documentary!
When Bono came to St. Louis a bit after Joplin, Missouri was destroyed by an f-5 tornado, Bono talked about it on stage during the 360 tour. I think anyone that wasn't sure about him as a man, found that he does care about people. The audience loved him!
That was amazing, i thought I was in love with U2 before this documentary...However now, they are MAGIC!💞🌞
was listening to the WAR album again the other day, such a masterpiece.
My ALL-TIME favorite album!!!
Since 1984(at 13) when I discovered U2.Bono’s influence has made me try to be a better human being..Really made a difference in my life
Ahh, Mr.Fanning ,
You speak the Truth.
Excellent documentary and facts.
Nice to see a genuine, appreciative analysis. I know U2 is one of the biggest bands in history, but an unnerving percentage of the millenial generation has bought the old "punk" line about U2 and Bono being overrated (ever since S.O.I.). I love him, have for thirty years. And Dave has credibility. He knows the guy.
So stupid the hate for u2, they weren't there then obviously! There wouldn't be punk without Irish johnny lydon !
For me his greatness is that genius musicality he's got! That genuis voice of uniqueness yet captivating melodies that completely enveloped me and saved me. Yes, songs may not save millions of lives, but his did save this one!
And the amazing luck of meeting the Edge, Larry and Adam (mostly the Edge). Can you imagine Bono being the singer of another band? The greatest songs we would have missed?
Gone Fishing Bono is the bands great songwriter ..... looking at their studio outtakes, he is clearly the leader and the inspirer
I can’t see why anyone should have to defend Bono, or any other philanthropist, for doing awesome deeds for our world. People who are judgemental on Bono are nothing but narrow minded and jealous. An absolutely brilliant documentary about an incredible man. Thank you from Sweden!🇸🇪
"Have you come here for forgiveness, have you come to raise the dead. Have you come here to play Jesus, Bono certainly did. Good on him, Love or Loathe him nobody can deny the good he has done for millions of people that even he will never meet, yet he has come to represent them that in my opinion that is RocknRoll.
Thanks for posting this!♥️
You're so welcome!
The likes of U2 and the corrs got me into playing my own music on keyboard and hope to one day make it.
The very best of luck to you.
Myself I have a 50-50 chance of surviving cancer. I will spend rest of the time of I have for my country. To give U2 an all his supporters and 'fans' the thanks and continuance he an they deserve along with ausssie friends an germany and others. God Bless always
2 years later , how are you doing in your fight with CANCER ♋️ FIONA ?
Wish more people that are and have the power to do and changes lives for the better would... JUSTICE!
Amazing Man..Thanks Foreverything You Do*
Here I am learning about Bono so we can have stuff to talk about in family dinners after I marry his son Elijah.
The Holy spirit works through him - I am now convinced of it ... even though this comment may be shot down in flames - I have no doubt at all
I’m not a massive u2 fan I was born in 84 and even though I like older music u2 have never intrigued me but I’ve never understood the dislike of him? I think most of what he does is in a sense of humour and you can’t deny some of U2’s songs are genuine classics and I’m listening to there albums a lot more recently and there all good up to 97!! Cool bloke and if bob Dylan and Noel Gallagher likes him he’s got to be ok! And he likes a Guinness! And what’s wrong with doing SOMETHING!! At least he does SOMETHING and the people that are saying he’s doing it for his ego is absolute rubbish it’s done him nothing but harm!! He would of been better sniffing coke and doing heroin for his image!
It seems that he is willing to meet with the Devil if it means he can get his humanitarian message across the great divides. Much respect for Bono and U2
Bono you are amazing love love loved your story
I never understand why so many people talk shit about Bono. His actions have always backed up his lyrics. He’s always used his platform to make the world better because he gives a shit.
he deserves it. He is aware and and is God believing.
Yes and with all the pollution the church has created in Ireland and the world he sure is deluded regarding religion..
Met him this July in France! Was friendly enough as I stumbled my words! Bono!
Great documentary about a great guy!!!
ndugu77 great tax cheat
Paul Daniels plus he is a fake Catholic
@@chinarace of course not he paid taxes as individual ,lol
@@chinarace he's not even Catholic
@Mark Gauvreau not more clueless than you
There was no one and there is no one and there wouldn't be anyone like him ever! #Bono
Admiration.
It's cool that he's helping build up some of Ghana's infrastructure. I've seen firsthand the standstill traffic in Accra, I'm glad to see real improvements being made.
Bono is really the man!!!!
BONO IS THE MOST CARING KIND PERSON
HIS HEART GOES OUT FOR THE PEOPLE
TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE IN LIFE.HE CAN BE VERY PROUD OF ALL ACHIEVEMENTS 😀
Great documentary. Saw blur back in the early days and thought Damon and Bono were very similar in their early days. Love both bands both.
Daniel Lanois is good friend of mine!!
Woopy fukin doo
Can we just acknowledge that Dave Fanning, (Presenter) who's best known as a ground-breaking RADIO DJ in Eire, is utterly compelling as a TV Presenter here!!! (His company, RTE TV/Radio never really gave Fanning a 'main chance' at TV... THEY SHOULD HAVE!!!) He's done review shows and small stuff, but he never really got the BIG BREAK that, as this programme shows, he genuinely deserved. (Meanwhile Ryan Tubridy, a man who's personality has apparently been surgically removed, presents 'The Late Late Show'????) xx SF
BEAUTIFUL BONO
16:32 Anyone knows where this interview from?
It took two Irishmen to create Live aid and one Irishman to sell it - that's not to say many other nationalities and ethnic artists didn't have a say - but the seed came from Ireland ..... "yet again" .... once more in the name of love - Trócaire
BONO iis Unique, He is a Living Legend ❤
Nice doku. Can someone tell me where can I find "The Sweetest Thing" version that is sung by a choir of children @ 44:20 ??
Alis A ruclips.net/video/yJsHSekGulw/видео.html
Unfortunately, its not available :/
Search for St. Fiachra’s Junior School Choir - Topic. I can view this clip in Australia
Met him
Bono Vox is good man..we all have sins....love him
"Where nothing ever grows, no rain or river flows" Africa has forests, rivers, rain and it does snow in many parts.
Are those things In the area where the famine is occurring and people dying?
@@RowenMyBoat 2 years ago there pal, move on ye plank ye.
i love bono, i really admire the man but not the greatest irish man ever!! and i really believe paul hewson would agree with me on that topic. I have loved u2 since the late 70's so i know what im talking about lol. My funeral song will be with or without you and my sons cos of that cant stand listening to it sadly
30:30 footage at Mexico City Airport November 1992
Hello Dave, thanks for this, I'm the biggest u2 fan on earth and I like this documentary. I have one question: my mothertongue is not English so maybe I understand wrong. It's about band aid and "Tonight thanks god it's them, instead of you". This sentence was the most powerful sentence (and from far the best interpretation part) in the song. I don't understand why Bono changed the lyrics. I think it was a mistake to change it. Maybe you have an explanation?
What do you mean, Bono changed the lyrics to the song by Band Aid? My understanding is that he originally didn't want to sing those lyrics... but he eventually "gave in"... and did sing them. Please reply.

Net him once had a quick chat one on one not very bid but quite strong
weres the 118 million
Bono is a POP Star
Ask him about Chester Bennington.
Ask him, what is the story in Dublin at ground level, what a mess
Paid as much as 50 pounds on the black market today :))))) , if we could only tell them about Bruce prices these day, and thats not on the black market.
My Uncle John was voted the greatest Irishman who ever lived, I actually have Bono's mobile number, if its changed I could get it now, that's how I get tickets, free, he's only a wee fella, I thought he'd be my height but although a but chunky he's tiny.
Would he be good for a loan? Huh?
Bono doesn't work without the other 3.
Comparing Hewson with Bowie ? Are you sure ?
What’s the difference between Jesus and Bono? Jesus doesn’t think he’s Bono.
Haha no cause Jesus never livt 🤣
Ingonito
He's got to make money and stay famous then JESUS. ' Hell, Jesus only help 20 people and never sold out concerts.
36:50 "they will never go out on a greatest hits package tour" I think the 2017 The Joshua Tree tour has proven Dave Fanning wrong. $$$$
from what I've heard 'Songs Of Experience' was ready at the start of the year. why keep us fans waiting for new music when it's ready to go? I thought U2 were a band that looked forward not backwards.
I loved Joshua Tree but was disappointed in the tour here in the USA
I don't get what the band are doing. The Joshua Tree is a great album but for me Achtung Baby is their best. does this mean in 2021 they will have an entire tour based around that album?
U2 were contracted with Live Nation to tour and they did not have an album ready so they toured The Joshua Tree on its 30 year anniversary, they have an album coming soon
FYI, The Joshua Tree only had 2 hits, and Where The Streets Have No Name never even hit the top 10.
I am MOLLYALLIE why is Billy Mwaffles name on my comment ?
How much money did he give of your money you kindly donated to his one campaign? 1%, one fecking percent, thankfully Bono is as liked here as Geldoff, they might as well be English.
Jesus Dave this is some sycophantic shit.
Nick name was the anti-christ ... lol !
I find this impossible to be objective about,as Fanning has long- championed U2 forever, before Boy even.(Bono could've written this programme himself)
If Fanning had listed the philanthropy work & statistics etc, without reference to Bono & U2,no complaints.Great stuff
I just find theres something very sinister about u2 these days (tax dodging, using aeroplanes to transport hats, free album to Apple users,Joshua Tree cash-ins AGAIN,not to mention Aung San Suuy kyi.......
The message used to be in the music.......Now there's clearly a message 'Greed is Good/We want More Ca$h' & the music, well I'm speechless..
The last 3 albums could easily be titled :Banal Nothingness.......
Yeh... i loved him until he became member of the illuminati!!!
Achtung Baby certainly is not in the top 5 greatest albums of all time. That is reserved for the likes of Dylan, The Beatles.
Achtung baby is just fancy production
It’s arguably the greatest reinvention of a rock band in history, they tore the Joshua tree down and burned it. Sounds like nothing else anyone has done and it’s so unique
Achtung baby is so ahead of its time doesn't have to be on top 5
I would definitely put it in the top 5 greatest albums of all times.
That's subjective. I'd personally put it ahead of any of the Beatles albums.
Don't get me wrong i admire Bono for what he's done for humanity ,but i can't forgive him for burning the Irish Flag 🇮🇪
Atlest it wasent a Living soul and flags burn every day in the World
It’s a freedom many would love to be able to do. It’s done to draw attention to something.
hello
