Its called her fiance was killed in a hit and a run and he was pushing her to break free of collecting checks from Broadway.. Since his death 10 years ago, she has yet to accept a long term theater gig. She has maintained wanting to make great INDI R&B music
Sean Yates She got into Musical theater again last year in Waitress. (Idk waitress as well as others). She wanted to bring the people she loved closer in her live Since Tyler’s death. Also I see you like everywhere
Shoshana is a Mezzo Soprano. She can sing low and high notes. She auditioned for Glinda because her voice fit the role. Her personality and physical appearance is more Elphaba. They loved her audition so much that they casted her as the Elphaba standby.
Hi. Genuinely curious, what do you mean with sounding higher than they are? They are indeed higher notes on average than what she sings in belting. Head voice gives them that round and pleasant sound allowing for a different more mellow phrasing, though actually you can make head voice, if we mean the register (m2 or partial fold function), sound like belting if you use more compression, twang and open vowels. By alto range we might mean up to F5 in head voice and C5-D5 in belting, but altos too can actually sing over F5 in head voice.
Oblomov hans Shoshana though is a classically trained mezzo soprano. She was trained in one of the most prestigious musical conservatory programs. I always say musicals type casted her but her voice showcased why type casting annoys me. Fyi bless the lord in godspell and Elphaba in wicked were both written for a Mezzo Soprano's They just got type casted and viewed as Alto roles. Shoshana, however, is probably the only elphaba that honestly had Glindas range.
She is actually a self-professed soprano.... which is obviously presented in this Porgy and Bess. She just sings more pop and such. She's a very versatile singer. I've worked one of her shows, in which she told the audience that she is a soprano
Austin Peek yes, Shoshana is actually the only (as of now I’m working on it) soprano in my family all of us are Altos or Lower. My voice isn’t matured but I’m gonna be a mezzo.
Sho can rock Mama Will Provide better than almost anyone I've heard sing it. I think the only thing stopping her from playing these roles is that most of these shows aren't on Broadway anymore.
+David Todd Singleton I'm not sure that I believe you. I had a vibrato when I first started singing, and I worked for years to get it out of my voice.Vibrato is something that you can work to develop, or get rid of.
WishUponAStar tilt your thyroid. whimper like a dog. you'll feel it tilt. you thyroid tilted at first, and then you going thyroid vertical. you can get it back. whin or complain like a little kid. or whimper like a talk. feel underneath your chin.
your thyroid is a gland. It is not part of the somatic nervous system, therefore it does not respond to commands. What you're feeling is your vocal folds. To control your vibrato you need strong breath control and correct placement of the pharyngeal muscles and tongue. It is mostly about relaxing the throat and having good diaphragmatic and core muscle support
He meant the thyroid cartilage, rather than the actual thyroid. If we allow the vocalis muscle (which composes the vocal folds) to decontract, such cartilage is actually tilted town by the tensor of our vocal folds as they lengthen and thin. Thinning gradually allows for less resistance of the folds to airflow, which helps keeping high notes under control.
Jesus, she's talented but y'all are really out here advocating for her playing roles of color. And one person said black face? Exposing yourself isn't cute, fix it
Oh. I've seen plenty of people who aren't black on stage in dark makeup to fit the role. I can see why she won't play mens roles but why not black women? I also don't see why the discrimination is taken for granted like everyone is supposed to know...I mean, by the title I just thought she was dead.
So you just... Recommended blackface, which speaks volumes. Basically, the point is there are plenty of roles she can still play that doesn't require her to appropriate another groups culture, so she is aware enough to not play them
"pulling faces" Are you meaning that she should stop feeling what she's singing. I don't think that phrase means what you think it means. But if you have a video of you singing, I guess we could better judge?
Why this woman hasn't gotten more mainstream exposure is beyond me?
pretty sure she's a Broadway star

@@syworld82 She did waitress and that other one recently
I just love the fact that she can switch between so many techniques so fast.
2:45, never knew she could sing soprano that maturely, her tone is great.

OMG when she started singing mama will provide 😍😍
I FUCKIJG KNOW SHDHDHDJ
THIS IS A KILLER AUDITION PIECE...
not if you're trying to book anything that you could actually play
La Talullah The range of characters and vocals it shows though is Amazing. I'd be like yeah let's book her
I see you like everywhere When Shoshana Bean is in the video lmao
Sean Yates yeah you clearly don’t know that much about musical theater lmao...
You need to make it 15 bars, at least for broadway. Kinda hard to do with all these songs
Holy shit that riff at 4:05
wow !!! Shoshana can sing anything !!!
Shivers... Sho for all the roles.
She'd be a fabulous Bess! She's got the voice!
Oh my goodness, you are one of the most phenomenal singers out here! So authentic!
Every time I hear her it’s like “what planet are you from?!” She is amazing!
She can play Maureen. Maureen was a white girl from Long Island. Sho could pull that off. She pulls off all of this though. Jewish girl soul!
There's no Maureen song in this.
Sho can rock Mama Will Provide better than almost anyone I've heard sing it. I think the only thing stopping her from playing these roles is that most of these shows aren't on Broadway anymore.
I think it's that she is white, but go off
damn. what a gift she is to us all. That's the kind of beauty, talent and skill that can restore a person's faith in humanity.
she is flawless!
LORD JESUS SHE'S INCREDIBLE
I’d see her in once on this island!
omg!!!!!!!!!!! I love this woman!!!!
Loved loved loved their rent peace!
She's brilliant!!
So glad this skit returned!
Dayamn! Bess You Is was Stunning!
Chills, the entire time! :) Especially on Be a Lion!!
Oh my god seth rudetsky
Love it!!!
AMAZING
this girl is a vocal phenomena. could sing legit if she wanted......
What is THAT supposed to mean?
"If she wanted"...? She is an acclaimed Broadway performer. I mean, this comment is just.... 😤🔫
she is singing legit. Did you miss the "Bess You is My Woman" part? The comments on here are hilarious
Sing "legit" means to sing classically sounding. It is a term that vocalists and music majors use.
insane
Why the fuck has she never played a Disney villainess
too busy playing a witch on Broadway

La Talullah I feel I have terrible technique but I have good vibrato
Seth doesn't look like he's having much fun lol
Tim Stetar lol sometimes it’s his concentration face
Omggg that riff at 4:05
Why can I find nothing wrong with her performance???? SHE IS AMAZING!!!
so the riff? Like seriously??? Like what? I can't even. I don't even know. So good
They're all roles typically portrayed by black women or by men.
aka Audra McDonald's resume
hahaha so true
Aida, The Life, Once on This Island, Rent, The Wiz, Dreamgirls. There's actually very little Audra in this medley.
This is la chanze's resume minus porgy n bess
@bicth. There remains very little of Audra in this.
I would also have no problem with her playing Dorothy in the Wiz...
she forgot "The Jazz Singer", "The Song of the South" and "Cabin in the Sky"
Elphaba turns to Dorothy
Anthony Ward really though?! She's just incredible.
ooo havent heard most those songs. Sound amazing. Those belts!
Fierce
Pft, I'm an 18 year old Asian girl and I've played Asaka.... She can do it.
Nah, not really. She is white, and in a professional setting, she is much more socially conscious than that.
Yo, what's the intro song? It sounds too familiar but I just can't pinpoint its name :(
Cool Kid it’s the intro of chicago right before all that jazz
@@mkbryan0409 OML bless you
Is it just me, or does smushed shoshana kinda look like Jennifer Lopez (from certain angles)
Not her best but she was still young. Has gotten better in age.
I'm sorry, I would have no problem with Sho playing Aida...
I'm w/ you her performance would be stunning!
But Aida is an African princess so...
Someobody needs to cornrow her hair so she can slay Aida and get a Tony!
I know right!?!?
Why won't she get to sing these? I don't get it.
Because these are all songs traditionally sang by African American women
and one by an African American man
Even with Obama as President?
Well, she can sing them, clearly. she would never be cast as these characters, is what is really meant.
Why won't she ever play these roles? I don't get it.
She NEEDS to play Dorothy in "The Wiz"
Jesus, she's talented but y'all are really out here advocating for her playing roles of color. And one person said black face? Exposing yourself isn't cute, fix it
She's a bit too old though
Oh. I've seen plenty of people who aren't black on stage in dark makeup to fit the role. I can see why she won't play mens roles but why not black women? Stop pulling faces fool
?!
Andrew Koehler what's not to understand?
"pulling faces" Are you meaning that she should stop feeling what she's singing. I don't think that phrase means what you think it means. But if you have a video of you singing, I guess we could better judge?
