Oh man this is so awesome. I've been looking for something like this forever. I wanna get one to write midi tracks for demos cuz I hate programming fills and stuff. Just so much easier to play.
Hey I just bought this kit. Does the kick drum buzz when you hit it? I tightened the heads but it didn’t seem to help. I don’t want to over crank so I’m asking around.
I have my kit plugged straight into my computer using the USB option, and I was wondering how to program the open and closed hi hat. The sound the hi hat makes is the same regardless of whether my foot is closing the hat. Any one able to help?
Hi. How do I map the strike kit to a midi connected keyboard? I want to line up the drum sounds on my keyboard with the ones assigned to the pads on the Alesis. So when I play back a sequence from my keyboard it triggers the correct drum sounds on the strike kit. The standard midi drum notes are not lined up and I need to know how to do that. Thank you.
Hi Jason - hoping you can help me with an issue I am having of getting multiple midi notes registering in my DAW from a single hit on the trigger. First, my setup: A2E conversion kit (Gretsch Catalina shells with Remo Silentstroke mesh heads) Jobeky internal side-mount dual zone triggers Alesis Strike Pro module MIDI out to Focusrite Scarlett 1818 Superior Drummer 3 VST in Studio One 5 Pro I'm not having any issues with the kick, rack tom or hats (using a Roland VH-10 hi hat setup) but the snare and floor tom are registering multiple MIDI notes in the DAW when recording. After laying down a track, I see one strong note - then anywhere from 1 to 5 additional lower velocity notes. I assume these are due to vibrations emanating from the mesh head. Problem is, I cannot raise my threshold or retrigger settings much more in the Strike module and still maintain responsive playability. Are there other settings I should be examining? Is it because of the single layer mesh heads? Do I need to invest in triple layer? I have the heads pitched pretty high, so they are tight and less likely to vibrate. I have even added gaffer's tape to further inhibit vibration. I should mention that my current trigger settings in the module work just fine when playing through the Strike, it is only when I record into the DAW that the extra MIDI notes become prevalent (perhaps they are there when playing only through the Strike, but not audibly bothersome). It becomes quite a chore to sift through the MIDI track and delete all the extra notes. Anyone who has had similar problems and managed to solve them, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks in advance!
@@cleverdood Thanks so much for addressing this! Glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem. Unfortunately, Studio One 5 doesn't offer the "transform midi" function, but perhaps it has something similar - I'll dig around.
Jason, I just ran across your video today. I don't want to record but I want to change drum kits using the 5 pin midi and a midi foot controller while playinglive onstage. I just want to advance to the next kit in my user kits. How can I accomplish this. I will be using the Beringer 1010 midi foot controller? Thanks.
hmm, that's a good question. I haven't tried that and I actually just sold my Strike kit as we moved recently! I would assume a midi note can be assigned to the 'change kit' option somehow. I did find this in the manual: Note: You can send MIDI program change messages to your Strike module's MIDI input or USB port. Thenumbers of program change messages correspond to the kits listed in the current folder. Alternatively, send MIDI CC #118 to increment by one kit or MIDI CC #119 to decrement by one kit
it's only a midi controller which is a bummer as the Strike sounds are great. The newer Roland modules (TD-27 and up??), EFNote and Mimic Pro modules support audio over USB though.
not an easy way to fix some of the issues you were encountering, but you can go into the midi environment of logic and change all the parameters you were struggling with
you can also use the line outs into an interface for recording, which is how I do it....into my mixer....which is also an interface and standalone recorder. FYI

Hey man, when going into the voice section on my module and fx - midi, it's not letting me customize the notes. They dont change when I hit different parts of the drum kit. it just stays on the one I had set which is 036 C1. Any tips?

Doesn't Alesis furnish plugins for DAWs that would default to what the controllers does? Do any of the other electronic kit manufacturers furnish MIDI plugins for their kits?
I don’t think any of them have midi plugins. Most comply to the general midi set but for sets with extra pieces and/or multi-zone pads, they use different channels. I actually set my Alesis to a VDrum patch in Logic or the hi hat articulation doesn’t work right.

You can't. Midi is not audio. Midi is a trigger to play audio on your computer. If you want to record the strike module sounds, then you must use the stereo out or the 8 channel outputs to get the audio from the module.
