I’m coming back to music after an 11 year break. I feel like Tom Hanks in Cast Away or Robin Williams in Jumanji coming back to society rn. I’ve been looking at guitar amp rigs and wanting to get back into music. The next thought was recording. I came to amp heads that have load boxes you can run direct into audio interface or headphones for bass and guitar. Now this. Now these badass drums. I can record everything cheaper if I record “silently”, which is preferred anyway. Studio monitors for when you need room sound. No cabs or crazy loud noise. What a day to be alive!

Thanks for the video! Now I now how to record with my Interface.
Don't worry about bleed for drums. It will make your drum sound tighter and more realistic, especially for digital drumsound. All Schmitt said once ''bleed is your friend''. I would invest in a UAD card for the Ocean Way Room plugin to process your drumsound and your drums will come alive.
Sorry, total noob here. Could you hear the settings from the plug in while playing or only afterward when you're mixing? Sorry. I just got the strike pro Se and I've only played acoustic my entire life.
Hi Jason thank you so much for the video my friend you’re by far the most descriptive and easiest to understand and I really appreciate that however there is one thing that is overlooked I think quite often. I was wonder if you could help me with? I have an 18 I 20 focus right interface going into logic and I have a Lisa strike pro SE it’s really beautiful it’s a custom designed kit that I put together. My question is they combined the symbols in the times on two stereo tracks and you have four other mono tracks so what would be the cables that we use with that before quarter to quarter inch instrument cables and then to TRS for the symbols and toms that’s six Outputs then instrument cable for left and right audio out would be a total of eight is that correct and would that be the correct cable choice I would pay you to find out if this is right? Thank you I’m sorry I haven’t recorded or set up many electronic kits so it’s newer to me but I would love to find out from you please sir thank you so much Jason
TRS cables would probably be best as the toms and cymbals are stereo pairs. As far as I know TS can only carry mono signals, TRS carries mono or stereo. I used something like this www.amazon.ca/Monoprice-8-Channel-Snake-26AWG-Cable/dp/B00IACDU34/ref=sr_1_1?hvadid=671305341565&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9000854&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=4674649382955102451&hvtargid=kwd-315320833108&hydadcr=1502_13637761&keywords=trs%2Bcable%2Bsnake&qid=1699534125&sr=8-1&th=1
Would anyone have an idea of why my individual outputs for toms left and right and crash left and right won’t play any audio? The individual drum outputs for everything else produces audio, but the drums and cymbals that are a left and right output do not produce sound. I am running all outputs into an 8 channel preamp. There is a light on the preamp that lights up, which indicates the preamp is getting some sort of signal to it. But each individual drum pad for left and right for toms and cymbals would cause signal to go to 2 different preamp channels even though each left and right Tom output is connected to only one preamp input. Not sure if it had anything to do with no audio, but the only outputs that do not produce sound are the ones that get sent to 2 channels in the preamp.
Bro, did you explain what kind of cables you need to plug into the console? Are they TRS cables , as you mentioned there Tom’s and cymbals that are combined stereowise in one track ? So what kind of cables would you use if you wanna use the 8 outputs? Please let me know as I’m confused a bit about that connection
I thought I put the link in the description but I didn't...this is the one I use: www.long-mcquade.com/4386/Pro_Audio_Recording/Cables/Yorkville_Sound/8_Channel_TRS_to_TRS_Fan_Snake_-_10_foot.htm
@@cleverdood hey Jason thanks buddy, I’m actually trying with regular mono cables and it records fine, what would be the diffrence if they are trs? Is it better trs , I have trs but they are in my other home
@@dannyveras as far as I know, TS cables are mono and unbalanced ( mostly used for guitars ) and TRS will carry a mono or stereo signal ( like 1/4 headphones ) and are balanced. Either should work fine for the Strike. I don’t know enough to know if there’s any difference in quality.
@@cleverdood same here I don’t know if it’s better but it works , I’ll try to bring the the trs ones and see the diffrence , if the Toms and cymbals are balanced on stereo it might be better , I’ll let you know !
Hi Jason, great video man. Hey bro i was messing around with Logic and somehow i changed my Alesis midi outputs, tom 1 is now tom 2 tom2 is now tom 3 and tom 3 is now 4 and tom 4 is tom 1. lol. How or what is the easiet way to correct this in the Alesis module sir? If you dont mind bro i would greatly apprecite it. I have read everything and maybe i am missing it but coudnt find anything on this. Thank you Jason!!!
From memory, you can go into the midi settings for each pad and change that. If it's really messed up, you could always reset it to factory settings, but if you've done other customizations all of that will be lost.
Depends on a bunch of factors I guess. I never had latency issues but I turn on low latency mode in logic, lower my samples, close anything running etc.
Hi Jason thanks so much for the video. I'm using the strike pro live with an acoustic kit with real cymbals and triggered drums. I'm only using the module for Kick, snare and toms. I want to be able to add effects to the drums and save as a new kit. I want to keep the live mixer clean with no effects as I cant change the mixer settings quick enough on stage like selecting a different kit. Is there any way to add and save effects and have them output through the individual outputs? or am I better to say pan all my toms to the right output and the snare to the left and have the kick just raw. Maybe just using the two main outputs is the way to go and just set the levels of kick ect based on the venue through the strike pro mixer. I hope this all makes sense. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers Sean
As far as I know, the individual outputs will always output the raw samples, not the kick FX. For live, I'd rely on the sound person and use the individual outs so they can control the levels and FX. Probably less stress!
Thanks for the video.. I have a 8 track audio interface but I cannot figure out how to pan my toms and cymbals to feel the stereo. to me the signal is centered.. New to the Alesis SE, any advice ?
This was exactly what I was hoping to find. You rock, man. Thank you.

Excellent tutorials. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thanks for creating this. Very helpful.

UAD cards are an insane waste of money. There are loads of great drum reverb plugins that aren't locked to hardware, like Verbiage and Valhalla Room.

I have an 8-channel cable snake. Toms and Cymbals use 4 connections since they're stereo and the kick, snare, HH and ride use the other 4.

Awesome video. Exactly what I was looking for. Question.... Can use USB to record audio on the Strike like you can with the Roland modules?
good question! I assume the answer is no, and only midi is carried over USB, but I haven't tried that!
@@cleverdood plase can u try ?
No. Alesis did not include that.
You can connect the 2 streo outputs to an adapter that has usb on another end, then record on your software

So no need to worry about latency when tracking individual outs?

you'd have to set that up in the Alesis module 02:18 or so area in the vid...
@@cleverdood thanks it is a little before the part for the 8 tracks around 05:47. Thanks I will set them up in the module.
Did you pan your inputs in the DAW?
hey bud. Can you tell me how to delete a sample I recorded? Cheers
No idea, haven’t recorded samples on it. I’m guessing it records those to the SD card?
Hi Jason, I sent you a PM, let me know if ever you are available to do some lessons, I'd really appreciate the opportunity to learn from you - thanks!
Audio signal is extremely quiet.
I can not find firmware 1.5 I only know 1.4
Are you just using audio tracks? Instead of software instruments, midi, etc...
Yes
Never mind I found it 1.5 that is. I knew if I post something I would find 1.5, always happens. funny!
this is so intense :(
