Sephiroth was a hero who knowingly went down the path of evil while Golbez was forced to do evil and had the choice taken from him, and probably feels somewhat mad that someone else just threw away the honor he longs he could regain.
Golbez must have been f'ed up very badly after being possessed by Zemus in the original Final Fantasy IV. Zemus led Golbez into temptation to do his evil deeds and possessed him to get the crystals, and become a god. Thanks to Zemus messing up Golbez, Golbez was too weak to use the Crystal on Zeromus. The reason why Cecil's brother was too weak to use the Crystal is because he has very little experience about friendship.
It's epic because Golbez's strength, too, is on a very high scale and he in his own world and time could be considered a unique enigma a kin to how Seph was for the people of Gaia in FF7. Many of Golbez's quotes here are filled with a great inner wisdom and strength, but the one with Seph is definitely bold hahaha
I remember seeing on tumblr Sephiroth vs Golbez encounter quotes Sephiroth: Do you still yearn for the light? Golbez: Do you still yearn for your mommy?
There's just something I really like about Golbez in Dissidia. He's officially a warrior of Chaos, but he still holds the warriors of Cosmos in high regard, even looking at them from a somewhat fatherly perspective, giving them tips and encouragements. And the voice acting perfectly reflects that: Golbez's voice is deep, like your typical badass vilain would be, but there's a certain softness to it.
The reason why Cecil's brother failed to defeat Zeromus in the original game of Final Fantasy IV is because Golbez didn't have enough friendship to control the Crystal despite having Lunarian Blood. This forshadowed Psychic moves having no effect on Dark-type Pokemon because raw power alone will not be enough to defeat pure evil.

Golbez: Actively assists the warriors of cosmos through encouragement, tips, testing their resolve. Is a renegade member of Chaos and uses this to help the warriors of Cosmos in their quest to obtain their Crystals Cosmos: Sits on a fucking chair and cries
The Scrub Lord I still think he is an anti-villain. Just like Elsa(another magical, older, aloof sibling). Golbez has good intentions but does villainous deeds to achieve it. He was the one who encouraged Cosmos to have her Warriors kill each other so they could survive the next Cycle.
Golbez is more of an anti-hero if anything. He was controlled by Zemus through his Lunarian blood and turned into the primary villain in the game. He's one of the more fascinating villains in the series if you look at it that way.
Golbez Quotes and what is he talking about: “May your light uphold harmony.” Golbez literally means “Your light will bring peace.” “Have you drowned in the battle and forgotten your will?” Garland became corrupted with evil and wanted to live forever. If we have the magic of friendship, we'll never succumb to evil. “Overcome your obstacles, grasp your dream.” Golbez is saying “Get over your difficulties, and work toward your goal.” “So you seek to reign without loyalty…” As Golbez likes to put it, Emperor Mateus is acting very selfish. He’s using two gods to do his dirty work and cares about nobody but himself. “Compensate for your innocence with courage.” In other words, get over your inexperience with trying new things and be patient about it. Golbez is wishing for the best of luck to the young Onion Knight. “Do you herald a storm?” Golbez is saying that the ugly Cloud of Darkness wanted to make rain last forever and return the world to the Void. God limits the rainy weather to bring world safety. “There are greater callings than justice.” “There is more to a hero than justice alone.” - enough said. “Can I overcome my misdeeds?” This means that Golbez wants to atone for his past sins. God forgives our sins so it's more likely to be yes. Sunset Shimmer did a better job at it. “Show me your true resolve!” God would like us to be faithful, so the resolve he's testing is our faith. “Continue your journey against any wind.” The wind Golbez is talking about is the obstacles in your path. The best way to overcome them is by praying to God. “One can want, but never obtain the Void.” As I like to put it, “One can try, but will never obtain godhood.” What you seek may not be up for grabs. “Let me show you strength that rivals one of a warrior!” Friendship will always be the strength that will overcome any evil. Wearing the Armor of God will be strong enough to overcome Satan's wickedness. “Turn from destroyer to angel of hope!” That quote means “Get over your insecurities, and show your true nature!” Golbez actually means to right your misdeeds and change for the better. “Destruction will be your downfall.” Lucifer’s lust for beauty and power made him become Satan. Lucifer thought himself as god because he looked too charming, and tried to take god’s place which led to his downfall. “You should have found your answer by now.” Your Friends, Your Family, The Father, The Son, Holy Spirit, and the angels from heaven will give you the answer you need to reality's problems. “What did you gain from discarding your honor?” Golbez pities Sephiroth for choosing the path of darkness. To answer what Golbez said, Sephiroth gained malice after discarding his honor. “See your volition through!” Golbez hopes that Tifa made the right choice. God gave us free will but we need to realize that wrong choices will be our downfall. That's why we need to choose wisely. “The lion claws claws its way back from the depths...” Your troubles will eventually set you free is what Golbez literally means. If you believe in hope, setbacks can actually be blessings in disguise. “You are the one enslaved to time.” Ultimecia wants to reverse time to be beautiful again but Golbez tells her to let it go. If technology is used wisely, we can change our past mistakes in the present. “Hmph, a loveable fool.” This Golbez quote sums up a charming looking evildoer as they are ugly. To be beautiful, you need charm, heroism, and God's grace. God loves you the way you are. “You should reflect at times.” A perfect quote from Golbez. Christians think about what sins they committed on occasion and the loving and forgiving God will always give people a second chance. “Are not your songs mere pleasantry?” Golbez thinks that Kuja is using music terms in vain. Music is the melody of a song. Singing equals double the prayer. It may sound confusing if used in other ways. “Is his shadow all that you see?” Tidus must be thinking about Jecht and fells sad for being abused by him so much. “My, such an intrepid fellow.” Golbez is impressed with Jecht’s bravery. Jecht stands strong in times of danger, pain, and/or any unfortunate event. “If your mind is set, then see it through.” If you want to achieve or get something you like, work for it. For example, In order to obtain money, you’ll have to work for it. “Arrogance breeds negligence.” Lucifer was God’s former, most beautiful, and powerful archangel. His desire was to rule heaven with god and become his equal. But when he didn’t get what he wanted so quickly, he turned cruel and dishonest. He was arrogant about his beauty/power and fought back to rule with god. He was consumed with hatred after he was cast down from heaven. God tried to help Lucifer, but he chose his own path. One that made humanity astray after becoming Satan. “You maintain such spirit in this crisis...” Golbez feels impressed with Prishe’s easy-going, tough girl, and strong-willed attitude despite being in an unprecedented crisis. “The heavens may not be so free.” In Final Fantasy XII, Vaan’s desire to become a pirate for freedom made him trapped into a political war. “What have you gained from such malice?” Gabranth, the true Darth Vader of Final Fantasy, gains power with hatred. To answer Golbez’s question, he gains strength from hatred as hatred is his source of strength. Since Gabranth choose the path of darkness and fought with hatred alone, Golbez doubts that he will prevail in the long run. “Lay the foundation for your future.” As Golbez like to put it, take time to plan for what lies ahead. If you are not sure that your plan is going to work, play it by ear. “I shall atone for your hatred.” Like Sunset Shimmer as of Rainbow Rocks, Golbez can not tolerate hatred from any evildoer that stands in his way as he has dealt with enough hatred already.
thaneros for the failed version, he says "Guide my inner shadow, light and dark above..." for the last part he says "I tire of this." The completed one gives you "Guide my inner shadow, light and dark above, transcend the stars!" There's also a secret quote where the Shadow Dragon on his shoulder would say in a text "Give your power to Meteor!" And he'll respond "Very well."
I love you, Golbez. You know what it's like to be on the wrong side of the tracks and you settle for teaching those younger than you to find that strength to avoid your path. Don't ever stop being awesome.
Golbez: Continue your journey against any wind. Bartz: Wow, this guy is nice. Hey, Cecil, why is your brother fighting on the side of the Chaos Warriors instead of with us? Cecil: Zemus. Bartz: Who? Cecil: He was mind controlled by an evil Lunarian named Zemus.
And this is why Golbez will always be my most favorite villain in the franchise. He is not just a villain for the lolz, but he has a charismatic sense of justice that, while questionable, makes actual sense.
Well, after so many years a want to be a brother like Golbez or have a older brother like Golbez Wise, those who see problems and can put on the right path.
@@HyPhuyenTheSwordPrinceI have no idea what you mean. Golbez is a overall decent guy. Yeah he did commit some war crimes but he was under the mind control of Zemus. @@duckyfishes9445 that is what I meant. There are kind people who are antagonists that do crimes without purpose on their will which is forgotten from themselves from their own feelings.
Golbez is always overlooked as a great villain in the Final Fantasy series. Honestly though when it came to the Emperor and the Cloud of Darkness there wasn't much there of a story to make you want to hate them. Something 4 did a great job at along with 5 and 6 and 7.
I don't understand why golbez isn't that popular,he is awesome,i was hoping in the next ffd game he'd be on cosmos's side since it was somewhat hinted at,but it looks like that may not happen again...also add Zemorus the real ff4 villan or maybe even Mysterious girl or the creator that'd be interesting. get on it SE. I also can see jecht and golbez being buddies am I right?
+Golbez Girl FFIV in general is kind of overshadowed by later FF titles (VII especially), so that's why. Also, the next Dissidia is an arcade game in Japan and will have no storyline to it (though I wouldn't be surprised if they added one in if they decide to port it to console). And I thought Jecht and Golbez kind of were buddies? Or at least, they feel they have some things in common.
"Justice and retribution are but trifling things. There are victories of greater worth. Someday, you will know them." - Kluya "There are greater callings than justice." - Golbez
The questions Golbez has for Sephiroth and Gabranth shows his disappointment with those two people. Sephiroth gained absolute power after discarding his honor. Gabranth gains power from malice. He has dealt with enough evil and cannot tolerate it anymore. This is why Golbez takes the title of Final Fantasy's Sunset Shimmer.
I get that Zemus took advantage of Theodore Harvey's naïveté and warped it to evil ends. He must have been praying upon Theodore Harvey's pain. No wonder Zemus F-ed up Golbez. Not only Golbez lost control of the Crystal due to a sinful life he had suffered from Zemus, but also was cursed by him right from the start. I am happy he no longer became evil after breaking free from Zemus' curse.
L33TRedNinja Sunset Shimmer is the Golbez of My Little Pony for a couple of reasons: 1. Became a very misguided and confused antagonist at debut. 2. Once was a Clad in Dark: Her she-demon self 3.Felt horrified of her actions and feelings of hatred after snapping out of her misguided ways(cried about it after and because of her demon transformation) 4. Becomes a caring, self-sacrificing, and empathetic friend 5.Unforgiven by everyone except Twilight's friends after the atrocities she made in her debut. 6. Pays for her crimes by learning about friendship 7. Relates to Twilight as she once was Princess Celestia's student 8.Twilight's friends forgave her after changing her ways 9. Found hope for the Rainbooms to defeat the Dazzlings 10. Everything she did was to save Canterlot High but became oblivious to the Dazzlings' evil schemes. 11. Gave words of wisdom to her friends(but doesn't realize it) 12. Made sure that her friends are safe 13. Had to live up for her crimes 14. Assisted the heroes and worked with them(Joined Twilight unlike Golbez in Dissidia) 15. Swore to defeat the Dazzlings after the atrocities they made at Canterlot High 16. Summoned powerful magic to defeat the Dazzlings (god-like magical alicorn because of Sunset's singing) 17. Saved the day in the end 18. Feels sorry for the Dazzlings 19. Has to work on friendship20. Had to do something about her past(erase it)

Golbez’s advice and insults are so perfect because most of them come from his own experiences.
I love how Golbez isn’t all darkness and death and despair in his lines.
Golbez's quotes sound NOTHING like what should come out of a bad guy's mouth.
+Preston Dixon He's not the typical bad guy.
Well, I've never played Final Fantasy IV
He's a good guy in Final Fantasy IV the after years
+Preston Dixon It's like he's a teacher.
+Preston Dixon You should go do that. It's a good game. :)
Golbez: The Reasonable and Level Headed Bad Guy.
I swear, he’s just so honest and to the point about everything, and everyone.
Golbez is a motivational poster incarnate.
Golbez is the hard truth spouting guncle we all need in our lives.
Golbez Quotes and what is he talking about:
“May your light uphold harmony.” Golbez literally means “Your light will bring peace.”
“Have you drowned in the battle and forgotten your will?” Garland became corrupted with evil and wanted to live forever. If we have the magic of friendship, we'll never succumb to evil.
“Overcome your obstacles, grasp your dream.” Golbez is saying “Get over your difficulties, and work toward your goal.”
“So you seek to reign without loyalty…” As Golbez likes to put it, Emperor Mateus is acting very selfish.
Jecht stands strong in
times of danger, pain, and/or any unfortunate event.
The only thing I got from this is that you don't know shit about Final Fantasy.
thaneros for the failed version, he says "Guide my inner shadow, light and dark above..." for the last part he says "I tire of this."
The completed one gives you "Guide my inner shadow, light and dark above, transcend the stars!" There's also a secret quote where the Shadow Dragon on his shoulder would say in a text "Give your power to Meteor!" And he'll respond "Very well."
Love Golbez's dialogue and voice, an underrated FF character!
Golbez: -Exists-
Chaos: "WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?!"
Golbez, the Morgan Freeman of Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy.
I really like Golbez' quote to Jecht. It reflects how they're the good guys among the villains.
And this is why Golbez will always be my most favorite villain in the franchise. He is not just a villain for the lolz, but he has a charismatic sense of justice that, while questionable, makes actual sense.
Anyone else going to Golbez motivational seminar next Tuesday?
Golbez seems so sweet I would most definitely hug him.
I love this man! I wanna give him a hug!
Me, too 😭
Golbez: Hmph. A loveable fool.
Laguna: Darn right!
Golbez legit assfucked Cloud and Sephiroth with those sentences
Well, after so many years a want to be a brother like Golbez or have a older brother like Golbez
Wise, those who see problems and can put on the right path.
For Golbez as an antagonist and brother rival to Cecil, he really is like a nice and fair villain.
Aside from that mind control? Yeah, Golbez is actually a decent guy
@@zapperilhave you also realized that he could also be Chris Sabat?
@@HyPhuyenTheSwordPrinceI have no idea what you mean. Golbez is a overall decent guy. Yeah he did commit some war crimes but he was under the mind control of Zemus. Plus when he is broken free from his mind control, he tries to kill Zemus and help his brother Cecil. And in the sequel, he goes to find his brother again when he sense something happened to him. On the way he helps out the rest of the cast.
@@duckyfishes9445 that is what I meant. There are kind people who are antagonists that do crimes without purpose on their will which is forgotten from themselves from their own feelings.
He sounds more like a loving father than a bringer of doom.
I really like the voice acting here.
I want a Golbez Alarm Clock. Every time it hits 7 in the morning I get some motivational quote in his voice and that'll be my morning coffee.
Golbez is the sweetest half lunarian giant clad in the dark armor.
That goes to show that Golbez isn’t TRULY evil
:Oooh, love how he disapparages the other villains, and is subtly encouraging to his opponents.
Golbez is always overlooked as a great villain in the Final Fantasy series. Honestly though when it came to the Emperor and the Cloud of Darkness there wasn't much there of a story to make you want to hate them. Something 4 did a great job at along with 5 and 6 and 7.
Golbez, a fellow "Noble Demon" alongside Rubicante.
Ahh I miss Rubicante, he's one of my favorite characters in FFIV.
+Golbez Girl look whos talking
jekblom123
What do you mean?
RhapsodyDusk "golbez girl" doesn't understand why golbez is popular.
jekblom123
Oh, sorry, I thought you were replying to me. xD
Favorite character (villain or hero) in any video game I've ever played.
aeterna789 Probably Anti-Villain
Did I really miss how insightful he was in IV??
It's not really a retcon, they just develop on how he acts after you-know-what
@Stan Brule He was under Zemus' control until just before the end of the game.
@@suchiuomizu yeah. And he wasn't really an antagonist. He's more of an antihero. At least since he breaks out of Zemus' control.
"Is his shadow All you see ? " To Tidus...man i love Golbez ! He is so Badass.
If I ever wish to become a FF character, Golbez is my answer
Eh... I'd rather not BECOME Golbez. I want him to be my mentor.
golbez is so supportive
Dissidia Golbez is a damn cool character.
"Justice and retribution are but trifling things. There are victories of greater worth. Someday, you will know them." - Kluya
"There are greater callings than justice." - Golbez
Golbez is such a sweetheart
Golbez: What do you gain from discarding your honor?
Sephiroth: ULTIMATE POWER!!!
'Destruction will be your downfall.'
Best quote ever.
For a bad guy Golbez gives such great advice.
I somehow forgot, going into this video, that Golbez himself wasn't actually evil.
Golbez will kick your ass, sure, but he'll talk you through your personal issues after and help you get some new perspective on life.
Golbez gives the best advice.
Golbez: *provides motivational quotes and advice to Cosmos' warriors*
Chaos and his warriors: "The fuck bro!?"
Golbez has supportive dad vibes.
2:05 Golbez is a Cloti shipper.
***** well, he cannot get some with Aerith at this point, can he?
serPomiz True, true. But come on. Let's be honest here, Cloud belongs with Jessie c:
***** u wot m8
NeoDracula M8 fak ov K?
Golbez has the most manners out of other villains.
Globez needs to do a Ted Talk.
If anything someone should dress up as him to do one.
This guy is a boss, straight up
His voice reminds me of Optimus Prime
I get more of a Goliath from Gargoyles than Prime. That's just me, though.
Chaos is Goliath though.
I got a mega-crossover series where Golbez MEETS Optimus Prime...
For someone wearing Vlad armor, this guy using magic as main ability
Good Guy Golbez. It should be a meme.
From reading the comments, I can tell it already has. Sort of...
L33TRedNinja Reminds me of Sunset Shimmer in the Equestria Girls series.
Hmm? What do you mean?
Ah. Thanks for clearing that up.
L33TRedNinja Sunset Shimmer is the Golbez of My Little Pony for a couple of reasons:
1. Became a very misguided and confused antagonist at debut.
2. Once was a Clad in Dark: Her she-demon self
3.Felt horrified of her actions and feelings of hatred after snapping out of her misguided ways(cried about it after and because of her demon transformation)
4. Becomes a caring, self-sacrificing, and empathetic friend
5.Unforgiven by everyone except Twilight's friends after the atrocities she made in her debut.
6. Pays for her crimes by learning about friendship
7. Relates to Twilight as she once was Princess Celestia's student
8.Twilight's friends forgave her after changing her ways
9. Found hope for the Rainbooms to defeat the Dazzlings
10. Everything she did was to save Canterlot High but became oblivious to the Dazzlings' evil schemes.
11. Gave words of wisdom to her friends(but doesn't realize it)
12. Made sure that her friends are safe
13. Had to live up for her crimes
14. Assisted the heroes and worked with them(Joined Twilight unlike Golbez in Dissidia)
15. Swore to defeat the Dazzlings after the atrocities they made at Canterlot High
16. Summoned powerful magic to defeat the Dazzlings
(god-like magical alicorn because of Sunset's singing)
17. Saved the day in the end
18. Feels sorry for the Dazzlings
19. Has to work on friendship20. Had to do something about her past(erase it)
Agreed. Golbez is another reason IV is underrated. He starts off as a deep villain, but his awakening reveals a truly good and remorseful person.
Golbez was one of the things that makes FFIV my all time favorite Final Fantasy game
Golbezs voice...better than Morgan Freeman
