He was literally peer-pressure (and pressure by a cowardly adult) to command the war between Galbadia and Balamb. I love Squall and Cloud to pieces, but your observations are just incorrect.
Squall gets a lot of crap for being all dark and emo, but a lot of people don't consider he's only 17. A lot of us were little whiny, brooding bitches at that age. When you get older, you learn to not let shit get to you.

Oh, Rinoa should be in Dissidia, but in order to stay true to Squall's character, those two couldn't come up against each other in combat - not even when a player isn't in the story mode.
