It also seems that there are people that complain about pausing, but a) it's your channel and b) your perspective is what makes your channel unique. Like I've said, I've watched many of the same songs across different reactors and always managed to take away something new.
It's called "Bardcore." 🎯 After "Jenny/Screech/Jenny" you should do "Chalk Outlines (live)." It's one of the duets he does with Chinchilla & both of their vocal performances are 🤯. Rap skills? You don't even KNOW. See "The Hunger." Only 2 minutes long. The pig (head only) makes another appearance. The location is where they found the wheelchair used in "Hi Ren." Reggae? Yeah, reggae. "Humble," for an original composition, or "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" if you wanna branch out & see him performing with his band (yeah, he's also in a band) The Big Push. Punk? "XBox Marijuana" "It's Alright" & "Diazapam" are two more, just VASTLY different styles. His collabs, busking with Sam Tompkins are amazing too. "Blind-eyed" is an original composition of theirs, multiple versions floating around. Not sure which one I'd recommend. I'll tell you what this feels like, what hearing, actually, "Hi Ren" (I think for most of us, that was our introduction) for the first time FELT LIKE. It's no commentary on the music itself. It speaks to the circumstances, the state of popular music & something raw that resonates with the Zeitgeist, so to speak. I'm gonna date myself now. I'm 54. I was 22 the last time I saw popular music undergo an abrupt, but desperately-needed left turn. Hearing "Hi Ren for the first time felt just like the first time I heard "Feels Like Teen Spirit" when it came out in 1991. It stopped me in my tracks & made me turn to face it, to listen to it, but I mean really LISTEN to it. It was just SO different from what was popular at the time, which had grown stale & was little more that a parody of itself. There was just something so raw & visceral about it. Kirk Cobain expressed everything that we felt but couldn't find the words to say. We related to his isolation & disillusionment. He became like the spokesman for our generation. And then he shot himself. He, like Ren, lived with chronic pain. Everyone around him saw he was spiraling out of control, & was profoundly unhappy, & they did nothing. The record label kept him working, out on tour, & doing press, recordung albums, without regard for his mental state. I think Ren speaks for Gen Z, & that his health, both physical & mental must be a priority (& I believe that it is). This man must be kept alive at all costs. It's only once or twice I. Your lifetime that you might get to see an artist come along & change EVERYTHING. Ren is the one. Trust me, I was there last time. ✌🏼
Lots to unpack here (maybe I'll make a video?) But I think he speaks for many and all generations as everyone goes through these issues. Considering he's my age, I feel he resonates with my age group the most (millennials). But again ALL age groups can relate. I'm going to be doing Chalk Outlines next (shorter / vocal prowess/ emotional, from what people have said) kind of up my alley.
Great reaction; really looking forward to your reaction on Jenny and Screech trilogy I think this has been called bardcore by others and it captures the delivery perfectly. Ren is great and you haven't even got to his collaborations with some other fine artists. Envy you that you are going to see how far his range extends. His covers with the Big Push and Sam Tomkins showing him in front of a crowd are simply wonderful. And you must see the live versions of the songs he does with Chinchilla!
Great reaction! I agree it is what we are missing in music now. Have not been so excited about an artist since my youth and I'm 73! Plan in checking out the new track going out on the 29th on his birthday.
Don't worry too much about going on tangents. We are here to hear what you have to say...well apart from the one obligatory guy who will show up on each video to tell you to never pause, lol
Liked what you picked up and pointed out of this one. Super keen for the tales of jenny and screech. With your style of reaction and knowledge base its gonna be awesome.
@McFly JP yeah no rush! It's just a lot of things he does in that which I think will be right up your alley to be the best reaction out there. Keep em coming!

@@mcflyjp Sure, I'm always up for a good exchange of viewpoints :) First of all it was interesting to hear your make a comment about the puching meds for monetary gain (6:32) - I do think that it's a rare occurance in Europe, doctors generally have little financial incentive to prescribe medication. What I think this part means is that that's just an easy way out for the doctor - instead of trying to get to the root of the problem it's easier for them to just prescribe benzos/antidepressants and send the patient on their way. As a related sidenote, you mention the ads for medications that talk about side effects - to my knowledge it's also a cultural difference since in Europe it's forbidden to advertise medication. Supplements and such are fair game, but anything denoted as a med is off limits. As a bit of continuation of the above I also interpret him drownin and looking for the way out more as a cry for some (real) help rather than side effects of antidepressants, but I do agree that they make people into zombies - maybe that's what he's refering to. The part about being given eveything but being parasitic (9:45) sounds to me as a commentary on the state of the World in terms of climate catasrophe, pollution and overall society greed and blindness to consequences ("In the name of progress we jump off the cliff") rather than a stint against medical industry specifically. Also the ending gave me very different vibes (16:10). For me "While i'm bleeding, I'm the reason, cause I'm doing the same" talks about the fact that even though he rebells against the exploitation of the Earth and the "money game" he's a part of the problem, because he does the same as everyone else. A very interesting observation you made was about the significance of the pig's head. I only read (on Ren's website I think) that as part of his mental struggles he used to have hallucinations invlolving the pig's head. But the fact it can sybollise greed fits the bill perfectly for this song as well as some others. Anyways - I'm curious to hear what you think about my theories :)
@@AntoniGawlikowski wow those are all pretty interesting. I think the part about society as a whole and not just the medical industry may be correct as I wasn't thinking about it being that broad, but it makes sense. I guess I was relating it to what I know of the medical and music industry as I'm not aware of how things are in Europe unfortunately (American Education system) however I could've just googled that o guess. It's kind of cool how we can all interpret it differently but still have similar interpretations.
Just found your Hi Ren reaction, and with 50 vids in this playlist it looks like we’ll be spending the day together! Nice to meet you McFly you have a new subscriber😊
I found the lyric about snake oil was speaking to holistic/natural treatments. Snake oil is just something that you are told will work. I find alot of the valid attacks on the pharmaceutical industry should also be made against the natural medicine industry.
You’re the first one (I think) who mentioned about the music being louder than the voices, because that’s what it sounds like in his head. Basically that’s what I think, too. It’s so noisy in my head at times. I relate to Ren.
Great Reaction, Spot on with your take man! :) if you wanna see him spit some bars then "Losing it" is great, and if you wanna hear his singing, then check out Chalkoutlines.
The music being louder than the dialog is representative of being in a state of psychosis ' when in psychosis you have great difficulty focusing on particular sounds, and you can experience hallucinations. Great difficulty sleeping or eating and extreme paranoia. Those guttural sounds when hes grunting are common in people suffering with any psychotic type of illness. So, untreated Lymes diseas can cause psychosis and present as things like bipolar or schizophrenia. So he was misdiagnosed, and being given all these different meds to treat these symptoms but it actually made it all far worse. If he actually had bipolar, the meda would have helped, but if a person has symptoms of psycopathy due to Lymes, those meds will not help those symptoms. Poor guy. Dude went through absolute, HELL!

Dude, you have a good mind on you and please stick with this venture. I think you are going to do great! Your dissection of his bars are so on point! Fellow musician, producer and anxiety sufferer and mental health advocate Your observations are next level but also met with feeling Big love to everyone
My theory on the pig's head (which appears in several of Ren's songs) - What does pig's head symbolize in Lord of the Flies? Here, Golding makes clear that the pig's head, which is also referred to as Lord of the Flies, another name for the Devil, is a symbol of the beast, which represents evil. During his hallucination, Simon understands that the beast is not something that can be killed because it exists inside humans.
Idk if I understand Ren. I just know that music is expressive and he is very good and creating visuals of what he's trying to portray. I appreciate the compliment very much!
I also noticed how you could barely hear her and her being drowned out and the little creepy voice in the background are what it sounds like in his head. You're the first reactor I've watched who also noticed that
Great reaction. Also anything marked (Retake) is where he has used someone elses song or "beats" and combines with his lyrics and basically makes it his own

Liked and subscribed as soon as you noted the mix was intentional. Also, please don't apologise for pausing when you have good commentary to add. There are far too many reactors who sit there nodding and end the video with very little to add. My method of watching reactions is to see the length of the reactors video compared to the length of the original. If the reaction is only a minute or two longer, I generally won't bother.
Thanks for letting me know. I don’t want to mess up the flow of the song as sometimes it’s very important but I also have thoughts I want to get out too. Haha

Like I've said, I've watched many of the same songs across different reactors and always managed to take away something new.
That's what I aim to do. Entertain through different perspective.
Just leaving a comment for the algorithm. You are really talented at this ❤️
Thank you so much! Appreciate that. Many more videos to come!
Your outro statement always makes me smile! Also, kinda reminds me of a Beach Boys song - which also makes me smile.
Good Vibrations, perhaps? Great song!

It's called "Bardcore." 🎯
After "Jenny/Screech/Jenny" you should do "Chalk Outlines (live)." It's one of the duets he does with Chinchilla & both of their vocal performances are 🤯.
Rap skills? You don't even KNOW. See "The Hunger." Only 2 minutes long. The pig (head only) makes another appearance. The location is where they found the wheelchair used in "Hi Ren."
Reggae? Yeah, reggae. "Humble," for an original composition, or "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" if you wanna branch out & see him performing with his band (yeah, he's also in a band) The Big Push.
Punk? "XBox Marijuana"
"It's Alright" & "Diazapam" are two more, just VASTLY different styles.
Lovely, thoughtful reaction - thank you.
Can't wait for the trilogy.
Also - The Hunger, and Genesis. 😌
Coming soon. Going to mix in other artists but definitely will be getting to those shortly.
I am doing Chalk Outlines next! I'm excited to see what people are calling an amazing vocal performance.
Great reaction! I agree it is what we are missing in music now. Have not been so excited about an artist since my youth and I'm 73!
Plan in checking out the new track going out on the 29th on his birthday.
Yeah I have it marked on my calendar. I was thinking about doing a live stream reaction to it!
Don't worry too much about going on tangents. We are here to hear what you have to say...well apart from the one obligatory guy who will show up on each video to tell you to never pause, lol
"Can't please everyone all the time..." - Mitch Hedburg .... Kinda.
Liked what you picked up and pointed out of this one. Super keen for the tales of jenny and screech. With your style of reaction and knowledge base its gonna be awesome.
Might be a couple videos out but definitely doing that one!
@McFly JP yeah no rush! It's just a lot of things he does in that which I think will be right up your alley to be the best reaction out there. Keep em coming!
I think I’ve honestly watched every reaction video to REN’s songs and yours have been some of my favorite so far. You pick up on all of the details that so many miss, you understand the intent behind his lyrics and you’re a very empathetic human. I also like you match your lids to your hoods 🤟 Keep up the great work mate
Thanks. It's been fun looking at music in a different way as well as talking about the intent of that music! Glad you're enjoying! 🙏🏽
Really nice reaction and insightful thought, although very different from what I get from this piece. That makes it even more interesting!
Thanks!
True art is subjective. May I ask what you got it if this? For conversation's sake.
@@mcflyjp Sure, I'm always up for a good exchange of viewpoints :)
First of all it was interesting to hear your make a comment about the puching meds for monetary gain (6:32) - I do think that it's a rare occurance in Europe, doctors generally have little financial incentive to prescribe medication.
Oh wow, so glad to hear that! So much Ren content that I love and have covered. Glad to know you love it!
It just seems to make sense with how meticulous and thought out every aspect of every song is.
2:23 finally someone mentioned this
The only explanation that makes sense. 👍🏼
Great Reaction, Spot on with your take man! :) if you wanna see him spit some bars then "Losing it" is great, and if you wanna hear his singing, then check out Chalkoutlines.
Thanks I appreciate it. Chalk Outlines is the next Ren song. Gonna do another artist first then that. Stay tuned!
Thanks for the really interesting breakdown and view. 👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome,Thank you,Ren ❤
Oh yeah. Ren went through so much in his life. For those things to happen to a good person ...
Hell of a job breaking down both of these videos/songs by Ren. Thanks for the content man, just subbed. If you haven't watched or heard Watch the World Burn by Falling In Reverse it's pretty wild man. I think you'd really appreciate the diversity in music and how well it's blended, not to mention an insanely high level of production to the video. Keep it up, I really hope your channel takes off.
Thanks. I'll make sure to at that to the list. Always love running into new amazing artists!
effing loved that a super lot. top tier sonic material. how did I not know them before? 😵
Hey I didn't either so don't feel bad lol
I'm not even a fan of rap, but I can't stop listening to Ren. I love all his songs. I think your right on about the beginning volume being low. Great breakdown
Not sure what music you're into but there's a lot of HipHop out there I think you could resonate with. Stay tuned on the channel. You'll find some cool stuff.

Great analogy of the music being louder than her voice because he can't hear her with everything going on in his head, I never picked up on that, well spotted 🙏
Thanks! It made sense with the song to be honest. I thought maybe that was reaching.

Your observations are next level but also met with feeling
Big love to everyone
Music should evoke feeling, and good music does. It's hard not to feel something with Rens music
We love you dude keep up the good work❤
You're too kind! I love y'all!
My theory on the pig's head (which appears in several of Ren's songs) -
What does pig's head symbolize in Lord of the Flies?
Here, Golding makes clear that the pig's head, which is also referred to as Lord of the Flies, another name for the Devil, is a symbol of the beast, which represents evil. During his hallucination, Simon understands that the beast is not something that can be killed because it exists inside humans.
I really like this theory, actually. It's obvious Ren is schooled and has read some literature. I like this take!
@@mcflyjp yep. Great reaction again man.
JP another outstanding reaction. If you're interested in hearing Ren rap play Ren - The Hunger. I look forward to your breakdown.
Definitely on the list. I have some other reactions to get to first but it will definitely be soon.

Love your reactions on Ren you understand him and music extremely well so thank you again. Respect 🙏
Idk if I understand Ren. I just know that music is expressive and he is very good and creating visuals of what he's trying to portray. I appreciate the compliment very much!
@mcflyjp maybe it's more that we understand what he's trying to convey from our own indidvidual perspective and understanding.
@@PlymouthLad76 The pain is conveyed so well we can relate through our own experiences. And that's beautiful.

He's outstanding.
Very thoughtful. Thank you for sharing your insights!😊
Thank you! I appreciate that.
I also noticed how you could barely hear her and her being drowned out and the little creepy voice in the background are what it sounds like in his head. You're the first reactor I've watched who also noticed that
Thanks! Ren always has me looking for the subtle but important details.
Great reaction. Also anything marked (Retake) is where he has used someone elses song or "beats" and combines with his lyrics and basically makes it his own
Makes a lot of sense. Losing it was one of those.
Another great Ren reaction, and once again you are so inciteful and spot on with your analysis. I don't know why you haven't done music reactions before, you're a natural.
Thank you so much! That's what happens when you are passionate about something. There will be a shift in the channel moving forward and I hope you are along for the ride.

Ren played the cello in this
I guess now the question shouldn't be "What else can he play" but "what can't he play".
very insightful
Thank you! Appreciate that.
Haha
@@mcflyjp I still see people complaining about pauses, but they're generally in the minority. Just remember that you can't please everyone. Ren was signed by Sony but as soon as he got sick they dropped him!
Sucks for Sony but without that we wouldn't have the music we have from him. So a blessing in disguise.

Both so real. No fluff! 👍🏼
I’ve been a soul/funk junkie since 1980, 13 yro. Prince, EW&F, Bootsy Collins, Luther Vandross, P-funk, Chic etc. All black. No rap!
Now Tom & Ren. White and rap…🤔
What happened? 😂
I'm not sure where to start with Tom McDonald. Any suggestions
@@mcflyjp I stumbled on Fake woke (social commentary) in Jan 2021. Very relevant. Then Cancelled (to haters and on being independent) and Clown world (social commentary).
I then was suggested to go back to Dear rappers (from role models to drugs and hoes(?!).
👉🏽Maybe Castles could be a good start, then Dear rappers. They show his softer side and humble beginnings.
Like Ren, Tom has a super nice following #HOG (Hang over gang) and I’m pretty sure they’ll guide you. Whites, blacks, young, old, metal heads, ppl from all over the world, pastors, dems, republ., grandmothers, rappers, dads with 13 yro kids react and are fans.
Politics, mental health, overcoming addiction, anti ”the industry”, some fun, but always real, nu fluff. His girlfriend (Nova Rockafeller) since many years shoots/directs/edits his video. T makes the beats, lyrics, performs, a friend Evan mix/master.
From $5 to $25M+ in 7 yrs. 30 Billboard placks and #1s in rap and one in pop. (So much…)👴🏼👍🏼

Here’s a music video from Prince’s movie Purple rain. The band playing is his competitor in the movie. Just to show where I’m coming from. Prince is another rabbithole. 39 albums in 39 years. Played like 25 instruments, wrote, played, performed and about halfway in his carrier went from Warner Bros to independent.
But this video - just a good party jam. Good luck and have fun!
✨😎✨ ruclips.net/video/627Q6F9NOYQ/видео.html ”The Bird”.
”Ladies, don’t be shy. … Let your body get loose. You ain’t to fat to fly.” (Haha! Gotta love the 80’s!)
I think the strings are actually still guitar
If that is true that's kind of insane!
Sony signed him then dropped him because he got sick.
Yep. Sad. Their loss though. While it's harder for him to get his music out, Hi Ren and This song wouldn't exist if he was still on that label.
I think the pig may refer to - visualizations he had when he was psychotic. Not sure. Well done! Thanks.
Saw an interview with him talking about it and looks like that is actually true.
i might be way off bur i think the pig represents the doctors as Ren sees them that they are butchers (butcher pigs) cuz in the videos they seem to be the "caregivers"
I think that that may be right now that I have more backstory
@@mcflyjp if i had been misdiagnosed for 7 years while Lyme disease was destrying my body and mind i would think of them as butcher pigs also.
Don't know if you already know he was signed by Sony records and as soon as he became sick they dumped him!
Yeah..I read up on him. Sucks for Sony but without them dropping him we wouldn't have Hi Ren or this song!
@mcflyjp oh deffo best thing that could of happened to him!
Not my cup of tea all this stopping, rewinding, etc. I rather you listen to all the way through to get the totality then pick apart.
To each their own. Majority here says they didn't mind. But hey can't please everyone all the time! Thanks for the comment though!
Also, if you would like to see the entire thing interrupted definitely check out the artists original video. Either way you should. Then come to mine for the breakdown. For copyrights sake we can't play it in full, uninterrupted without a strike. Just an FYI.
When Mcfly stops ..the timing of it just seems right in my opinion.
