    One of my favorite parts of this scene is that it would take Arthur about five seconds to just walk around the bridge the Black Knight is guarding.

    • @benschultz1784
      @benschultz1784 2 дня назад +5

      1. A King always crosses a bridge
      2. The Black Knight would have probably blocked Arthur anyway

    • @jacob4920
      @jacob4920 День назад +3

      That ravine is so tiny, King Arthur could have simply strolled about five yards downstream, and LEAPED across it! The presence of that bridge was as meaningless as the Black Knight's very existence. But that's what makes this scene so funny. It's just so completely off the rails of logic.

    One of the funniest things about this clip is Mary Cherry critiquing the logic of a Monty Python movie by questioning whether or not a king would be in the woods and on a quest. Being apparently ignorant of the Arthurian Legends, this is the plot point that she has trouble believing in one of the most non-serious, absurd comedies of all time. Her comments almost sound like she thinks this is a Game of Thrones style drama this far into the comedy film.

      A joke Mel Brooks hammered home in his Robin Hood Men in Tights, with Dave Chapelle jumping from one bank to the other. I like that Python left so many of those little jokes in there, makes it endlessly entertaining no matter how many times you watch it, you always catch something new (or even forgotten from decades ago). My 10th grade World History teacher played this for us, and I had already seen it a dozen times by then, and she gave us extra credit for explaining why the jokes were funny. I got 136 extra credit points. And I probably still missed tons of the more subtle ones. This movie is simultaneously one of the smartest and dumbest movies. Glad it's popular with reactors.

    The in-joke being Graham Chapman (King Arthur) was very Gay, and all the others Python's knew it, had no problem with it, but they never let their respecting Graham get in the way of a good line.

    I've noticed that a lot of reactors miss the joke that the bridge is quite small and only goes over a small ditch. The ditch is so small there are plenty of points that are easy to cross without a bridge. The bridge only seems necessary for wagons, etc.

    I have the restored version of this film on DVD and LaserDisc. The LaserDisc offers two language options. English or Japanese. There is also a commentary track with the Directors, Production Still Photo Gallery (the camera car was a Citerion DS Estate), plus a hilarious clip from the film (French taunting scene) dubbed into Japanese, with English subtitles; they did not base the subtitles on the English language track, but rather did an English translation of the Japanese Dub track. Hilarious!

    THAT GUY here. A "flesh wound", though not fatal, it still a pretty serious injury. If it sliced the correct muscle or nerve fiber it could debilitate you permanently.
