No,that would not make any sense at all, Costello trusted Billy and sent him the tapes with Sullivan on it. The guy who shoots him knew Costello was a rat and that they had to save themselves. So tje opposite of what you're saying. Costello didn't order the hit.
This movie is awesome. This scene is crazy. Also, how about showing the end when Matt Damon's character walks into his apartment and Mark Wahlberg is there. Love these. Keep 'em coming 🎉

In those other films, it builds up to it, in R&J & DU, you kinda know he's gonna die tbh. With this one, yes, there's build up but it really leads you to assume that he's gonna take down Sullivan, walk off the hero because of all he went through. He's seen as the only one that can stop Sullivan because he's the only one who knows the truth & now he's got him in the elevator, dead to rights, even Sullivan's voice breaks because he knows he's cooked now. The viewer's like: "Yes! Sullivan's going down for all that shit he did." So when it comes out of nowhere like that, it really catches the audience offguard, much like it does Costigan & Brown in the film. Makes for a very memorable scene & a great reaction to anyone watching it because it's so unexpected.

There are two more movie that carry on the story, in short they are about how the role of Colin struggle "to be" a hero cop then someone come in and know he is the mole. The third one is about the mind game between him and that internal investigator on how to expose him.

400-odd years ago, Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus" demonstrated that rapid fire executions are just funny, which is a reason why that early play of his is so lowly rated. I guess Scorsese never saw "Titus Andronicus". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Add the incessant flip-phone usage, and this is a silly movie, though some of the dialogue, particularly from Marky Mark, is quite hilarious.
Vicarious emotions are real. Sometimes I don't feel valid in my emotional responses to things unless others have a similar response. Finding people who are hit as hard by certain things as we were can provide some sense of comfort and inclusion.
For me it was funny. When I saw this in theatres I looked at my friend at the beginning and said how funny would it be if mark just came in at the end and killed everyone; and then this happened. We were the only ones in the theatre laughing our a$$es off.
Giving Goodfellas a slight edge but the sense of tension and involvement you feel watching this movie is crazy. Like, nobody in this movie was really likeable but I cared what happened to all of them.

The Departed has more fluff in it than IA did (notably the stupid ass love triangle), and it doesn't have the iconic Hong Kong cinema influences (like the emphasis on how music conveys the emotions), but the story is practically copy and paste from the original. They even made Costigan have the same background as Yan that wasn't revealed until Infernal Affairs 2

Every story beat is straight from Infernal Affairs to the point that the details they did alter are funny how they changed it to make sense to an American audience. Like the envelope with their background information has the two characters arguing over how to write a complex Chinese character, so the American version has a guy misspell "citizens". It's quite funny how that was adapted
