Great video. I'm considering this combo. I'd love to see another video like this but with multiplayer turned on at a busy airport (20-30 players minimum)
@@matejkoldovsky.1544 You're right. I ended up going with the 5800X3D a month after my original post. I combined that with the 4070 ti Super. The card is great. I have no complaints with it, but the CPU is still not quite enough. I wish I held off a little longer, but oh well... I'll have to see what the requirements are for FS2024. Maybe I'll upgrade again in a year or two.
Enjoy matey - honestly when I upgraded to my 4000 series card and 7800X3D with FG enabled was an absolute game changer!! Crank all the settings up and never look at FPS again
I have a 5800X3D with 32GB ram and a 3080 12GB and since I notice no difference on my PC when at 1440 vs 4K I think I will be set with MSFS 2024. This video with fps at 93 and only dropping down to 83fps still shows a slight stutter that from what I gather is all but gone in 2024. I have watched two videos where they said about 2024 "its the smoothest flight sim I have ever flown" and that makes me smile as that just adds so much to the experience.
Oh mate really glad to see you did a video on that topic. Still thinking of upgrading my 6900XT to a 4080super. 5800x3d is already there😬 Will watch the video this evening. Like is done regardless of outcome 😉

As you said, I upgraded with AMD 5800X3D and 4080 Super and it was a bit of a budget buster, but the result is really good, now I can fly at Ultra settings and it's a nice experience. Thank you.
That is so smooth, fantastic. At the end of the day, the smoothness is really what you want - all of the extra fine resolution detail etc is lost when you're concentrating on your approach or are in the cruise, so unless, as you say, you have a ton of cash to spend, your combo looks like a terrific option. The other thing to keep in mind are the promised performance improvements that are coming, as soon as next month, as MS/Asobo put FS2024 improvements into FS2020. These should incrementally improve performance and give you an even better experience on your system to make your return on investment even better - what's not to like! I have the 5800X3D and an AMD RX 6800 XT and don't get your new level of smoothness, so I think I'm going to jump to a 4080 Super as well . . . I just have to justify it to the financial controller ;-)
Great vid! If you were to lock to 60 within the game, it would only render up to 30fps natively with FG making up the other 30, which is terrible for latency. Best to leave it unlocked.
I’m going to go from 2700x to 7800x3D along with my current 4070rtx I’ll let you know how it is 👌 I think you proved the cpu is more important your upgrades from 5600 to 5800 huge upgrades
I guess I could, though they’re mostly the same as before, it’s just I get a better frame rate now. You’re not the first to ask though, so maybe I should
thank you for all those videos, gives us a great view on what parts to upgrade in order to make it smooth. though I am still unsure about my setup. im on a 5800X with 16GB RAM (3200 CL14, cant get it higher on my B350 Board) and RTX 3070. Im on 1440P but performance is meh. MSFS and CS2 are my main games with a few single player games on the side. Since MSFS and CS2 are both CPU bound - would it make sense to upgrade my rig to a 7800X3D first and keep the 3070 for a few months (to make it a 5XXX card in the future) or keep the AM4 setup and hop onto a 4070tis now? I know ill eventually upgrade both directions, just cant do it now. Going AM5 would also finally give me 32GB RAM. But I dont know if I will make good performance gains keeping the 3070 on 2k resolution. :/ Mind helping me out? need a rationally oppinion :D chronical overthinker o7
Best place to start would be enabling developer mode in the sim and then turning on the fps display. It should tell you which component you’re limited by. If it says limited by main thread, that’s your cpu. At which point you could open task manager and see how much usage is being put on your GPU while cpu limited to get a sense of how close to edge your GPU is being pushed while cpu limited. From there you can estimate how quickly you might become GPU bottlenecked if you introduced a faster cpu. For example, if you’re GPU is at 90%, upgrading to a quicker cpu will make you GPU limited very quickly. In my case, my 4080 super is at around 50-60% at 4K with frame gen enabled. So room in the tank should a new cpu is introduced (9800x3d maybe, when / if it launches)
@@AirNOTT thanks for the rapid response! im MainThread limited like 95% of the time. there is an occasional GPU limited frame. GPU utilization never exceeds 50-55%, CPU is 40%~ (it varies a lot!) during a normal flight (using FBW A32NX). If I put DLSS on quality and increase some setting to ultra, the GPU utilization crawls towards ~60% (but it varies too, its usually way below 60). Cruising altitude is okayish smooth, there are a few stutters but its "alright". Once im on an approach, it feels apart the closer I get to the ground... CPU frametime is 15-20ms when crusing, and 30-50ms when landing. GPU is like .. 8-10ms? I can have 45-50fps in the air, and then on landing it can drop down to literally 10fps.. On most Triple AAA games im obviously at 100% GPU, so there wont be a huge gain I suppose - though ive seen some comparisons between a regular Ryzen 5XXX and 7800X3d and there is always a good boost in FPS, even if you were GPU limited before. its tough cuz I feel like overall the 5800X and the RTX 3070 are decently balanced. But I know pushing 2K, especially on newer titles, while wanting a smooth experience pushes it to its limit. So ill have to upgrade both eventually, just not sure what would benefit me more. I guess if I let it come down to games, I'd prefer a smoother experience in CS and MSFS as those are my main games. The Triple-AAA games im not so eager to push it to graphical limits yet. btw - introducing 5800X3D is not an option. If I upgrade the CPU direction ill go all-in on AM5.
@@AirNOTT just wanted to give a quick update. I sold my 3070 and bought a cheap 4070 super - and this made my sim really smooth as I now use frame gen. Now thinking about upgrading my 5800X to a 5700X3D (I could sell the 5800X) - or if I should now jump to the 7800X3D (or 9800X3D). I use the older TrackIR v4 with MSFS and found it feels smoothest at 60Hz, even if there is headroom. I have the 5800X3d but only a 1070ti for now. I heard you get massive latency issues using vsync + frame generation, which would be bad for TrackIR.
